DHRI *hope* that this counts as developer discussion.  Hardy's kernel has a bug that I reported.  The response was that there was a fix in 2.6.27.  But 2.6.27 doesn't work because there is no v86d, needed for uvesafb.  Is this easy to fix?  Will it be fixed?  See http://kernel.ubuntu.com/pub/next/2.6.27-rc3/{all,hardy}01:28
DHRSeparate question.  Some BIOSes set up the MTRRs with nested ranges.  Several X video drivers cannot then change their video buffers to Write Combining; they either refuse to run (proprietary ATI driver, for example) or run at reduced efficiency (Intel driver).01:32
DHRSolution 1: There is a kernel patch to reorganize MTRRs to solve this.  Solution 2: The better approach is to use PAT, and this will happen eventually.  Solution 3 (maybe): I've written a userland program to reorganize MTRRs.01:33
DHRIs anyone here interested in my program for Solution 3?01:34
DHRMy first question relates to bug 24626901:35
DHRMy second relates to bug 22440401:37
CarlFKDHR: im no dev, but my advice is to post your comments and patches to the bug reports 01:40
DHRCarlFK: thanks.  I have done so for the first but gotten no response.  I'm working on responding to the second.01:43

stephantomhey there. I've just upgraded a testing machine to intrepid, and the new kernel won't boot. normally there would be something useful in the logs that would tell me what's wrong. but I can't find anything. it just... stops. have a look, please: http://nopaste.biz/5187412:57
