rockyrockhi guys, i can't setup mythbuntu in my Ubuntu or even when i use the live version. I get this message at the end of "Launch MythTV setup".02:06
rockyrockwhat's the problem??02:06
rockyrockI have ubuntu hardy, and i installed all needed packages like: Mythbuntu Control Center + mysql ....etc02:07
rockyrocki don't know what's the problem!!!02:07
rockyrocki also get the same result when i try to setup it in the Live CD of mythbuntu 8.04.102:08
rockyrocksorry i didn't mention the message!!! The message is this: "Cannot login to database"02:24
rockyrock:)02:24
superm1with an existing backend?02:24
superm1this was just a frontend you were setting up?02:25
rockyrockyeah02:25
superm1so that means that you dont have the password right on the frontend02:26
superm1or the backend isn't listening for connections on mysql02:26
superm1test the connection using mcc02:26
superm1on the mysql tab02:26
rockyrocksuperm1: what's mysql tab?? or where can i find it?02:28
superm1open mythbuntu control center02:28
superm1and it's on one of the side tabs02:28
superm1mythtv configuration tab actually02:29
rockyrocki found it, but how to do mcc??02:29
superm1mcc just stands for mythbuntu control centre02:31
rockyrockwhen i click "Test mysql connection", i get Failure!02:31
rockyrocki'm sure i have the right password, cuz i got it from here: /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt02:32
rockyrocki will tell what i've done. I installed the packages, then directly i clicked "launch mythTV setup" in mcc. I didn't do any setup to backend or something!!!02:33
superm1okay so then make sure that mysql port is open02:33
superm1on the backend02:33
superm1turn on the "Mysql" service on that box02:34
rockyrockhow to do that?02:34
superm1open up mcc on that box02:34
superm1and its on the services tab02:34
rockyrocki did02:35
rockyrocksome kind of installation is running02:35
superm1have you restarted since then?02:35
rockyrockwhat do you mean by "restarted"?? The computer or the mcc??02:36
superm1the computer02:36
superm1i dont remember if it takes effect immediately02:36
rockyrockshould i go to restart now?02:36
superm1well you can check if the port is open now02:36
superm1netstat -ant | grep 330602:36
rockyrockhow?02:36
rockyrocki got this: tcp        0      0 0.0.0.0:3306            0.0.0.0:*               LISTEN02:37
superm1okay so it's listening02:37
rockyrockwhat to do now?02:37
superm1hum02:37
superm1cry?02:37
rockyrock:'(02:38
rockyrockgood?02:38
superm1well on the frontend, did you make sure you entered the right ip address for the backend?02:38
superm1in that mcc instance?02:38
rockyrockI'm not even sure if i have the backend installed and setup properly02:40
rockyrock!02:40
ZinnSorry I don't know about02:40
rockyrockhow can i check it?02:40
superm1well if you cant connect to the sql database, that's a moot point02:40
rockyrocksuperm1: so...?02:41
rockyrocki feel that the problem is from the backend. How can i check if it's installed and running properly?02:41
superm1rockyrock, well the backend doesn't matter if sql doesnt work02:42
superm1because it has to connect to sql first before the backen02:42
superm1dd02:42
rockyrockso??02:42
superm1so answer my other question..02:42
superm1are you sure you entered the right ip address on the frontend mcc?02:43
rockyrockwhich one?02:43
rockyrockno i'm not02:43
rockyrocki don't know what you're talking about!!!02:43
superm1okay so in mcc on the frontend02:43
superm1it asks for mysql user, mysql pass02:43
superm1mysql database02:43
superm1and ip address (or hostname)02:43
superm1that ip address is the one of the backend02:43
rockyrockyou mean Mysql server, righ?02:44
superm1well they're the same box aren't they?02:44
superm1should be the same ip addresss..02:44
rockyrockyeah i have only one computer02:44
rockyrockMysql server: localhost02:44
superm1wait this is the same computer?02:44
superm1as in frontend and backend on same box?02:45
rockyrockyeah02:45
superm1oh that's a difference scenario02:46
rockyrockthnx god02:46
rockyrock:)02:46
superm1if you dont have anything else actually working yet here, just redo your install02:46
superm1it's a lot faster than debugging what the problem was02:46
rockyrocki get always the same result, even when i boot from the Live CD02:47
superm1you wont be able to do it off the live cd02:47
superm1the sql service isn't running02:47
superm1it's only running after you finish install02:47
rockyrockok i didn't know that.02:48
rockyrockbut i want it to run on my Ubuntu Hardy02:48
rockyrocki don't want to install other distro02:48
superm1okay well then you have to debug what went wrong here02:49
superm1most likely you chose a root password when you installed the packages02:49
rockyrockyeah02:49
superm1and that throws things off02:49
superm1dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-database02:49
superm1and enter it when its asked for02:49
rockyrockok, i got a question: On what host does the mysql server reside?02:50
superm1localhost02:51
rockyrocknext, asks for the root? i pressed enter. Now it asks for the password02:52
rockyrockwhat to do?02:52
rockyrockenter any password?02:52
bluntzcan I watch tv live with mythtv?02:52
superm1enter the root mysql password you chose before02:53
superm1bluntz, sure02:53
bluntzok with a cable tv tuner?02:54
rockyrockQ: Will you be using other computers running mythTV? Yes or No?02:54
superm1sure02:54
superm1bluntz, ^02:54
superm1rockyrock, well will you?02:54
rockyrockno02:54
superm1then answer no :)02:54
rockyrocki did, and it disappeared.02:55
rockyrockwhat to do next?02:55
superm1run dpkg-reconfigure mythtv-common02:55
superm1keep all the defaults02:55
superm1and then try running mythtv-setup02:55
rockyrockit gave me this msg:  * Starting MySQL database server mysqld                                 [ OK ]02:55
bluntzI always manage to screw up the setup02:57
bluntzand the tv listings especially never worked02:58
bluntzcan it be setup to work without the listings?03:00
superm1sure03:00
superm1makes less sense03:00
rockyrocksuperm1: when i clicked mythtv-setup, some "them image processing" happened and now i'm in the Main. I have these categories: General, Capture card...etc03:00
superm1rockyrock, okay so it worked03:00
bluntzI couldnt find a free alternative03:00
superm1carry on03:00
superm1bluntz, depends where in the world you live03:00
rockyrocksuperm1: how to detect my card?03:00
bluntzus03:00
superm1bluntz, in the US & canada, you can use schedules direct or over the air listings03:01
superm1bluntz, or nothing at all03:01
superm1bluntz, your call03:01
bluntzdo you have a walkthru listed anywhere?03:01
superm1look at the pdf on the website03:02
superm1it will walk you through mythtv-setup03:02
bluntzI  used a video for mythdora last time and got close03:02
tgm4883_laptopand by nothing03:03
tgm4883_laptophe means you have to setup none03:03
superm1theres a video for mythbuntu out there too, but the mythtv-setup part is the same03:03
bluntzand 1 more03:03
bluntzcan it be run without it taking over the whole sys?03:04
bluntzwould be nice if someone made a live mythtv distro03:05
bluntzhehe03:05
superm1bluntz, doesn't make sense because you need to have a disk for buffer at very minimum03:07
bluntzit could use my swap03:07
bluntzbut anyway03:07
bluntzwouldnt work for me cuz my card has to have the modules reloaded every boot03:08
bluntzkernel dont set it up rite03:08
rockyrocksuperm1:  i have a DVB card, should i use PAL TV format?? This is not mentioned in the pdf.03:08
superm1rockyrock, depends on your locale03:09
superm1if you are somewhere that uses PAL, sure03:09
rockyrocki don't know actually. I have my DVB card connected directly with the Dish.03:10
rockyrockso i don't know03:11
superm1rockyrock, well where do you live?03:11
rockyrockSyria03:11
superm1i'm pretty sure you're pal03:11
superm1http://www.geocities.com/fon_is_Fun/ntsc_or_pal.htm03:11
rockyrockok03:12
rockyrockwhat about the channel frequency table?03:13
superm1i'm not sure what's normally used by you03:13
rockyrocki don't know why do i need that! I should set the frequency of NileSat03:13
superm1pick something that seems somewhat sensible, and if it doesnt work you can go back03:14
rockyrockok, but where should i choose the frequencies of the satellite that i want?03:14
rockyrocklike Hotbird for example03:15
rockyrockor nilesat03:15
superm1i'm really not so sure03:15
bluntzI guess myth really needs its own box? will it work on a p3 450?03:16
rockyrockIf you're not sure, i have a question now. Can mythtv play DVB channels?? i.e channels from satellites??03:17
superm1bluntz, for a backend sure, but for a frontend i would refer to the website for the requirements03:19
superm1rockyrock, yeah it can03:19
superm1as long as they're not encrypted03:20
superm1you'd need a CAM of sorts to use encrypted channels03:20
bluntzIve always been confused by the frontend/backend scheme03:20
superm1well you dont need to do them separate03:21
superm1but its a feature that you can03:21
bluntzdo I understand frontend=encoder backend=viewer?03:22
superm1other way around03:22
bluntzso the p3 would be ok to encode?03:23
superm1if you have a hardware encoding tv tuner yes03:24
superm1like a pvr-xxx03:24
superm1or simila03:24
bluntzits an old pinnacle studio/rave03:24
bluntzanalog cable03:24
superm1thats a framegrabber03:24
superm1aint gonna do the trick03:24
bluntzso it wont work for myth at all?03:25
superm1you'll need a more power if you want to use that card03:25
rockyrocksuperm1: what's the video source?? I didn't understand it from the pdf03:26
superm1EIT for you likely03:26
rockyrocksuperm1: what's EIT?03:26
bluntzI have the card in a k7  512 box and it runs all the other tv wares ok03:29
bluntzdoes anybody here have a box up and running?03:30
rockyrocksuperm1: what should i name the video source??? I don't know what's video source is. Can you explain it to me plz, cuz how can i name something i don't know what it is?03:32
bluntz/dev/video0 ??????????03:32

cbrunnerI just dont think its being used03:35
bluntzlsmod and see if module loaded03:36
bluntzI run 2 cards also03:37
rockyrocksuperm1: oh god!!! I found how to scan for channels, but i should enter the frequencies for each channel!!!!! Is there anyway that it can scan for all frequencies for a specific satellite?03:37
cbrunnerbluntz, when I look at alsamixer03:38
cbrunnerits using the onboard sound03:38
cbrunnerI dunno what the module I am looking for in lsmod would be03:38
bluntzI just pick witch card in properties under mixer03:39

cbrunnerin properties03:40
cbrunnerunder mixer03:40
cbrunnerI only see03:40

superm1rockyrock, cant help too much more at this point03:46
cbrunnerlet me try also conf03:48
rockyrockwhen i try to scan any frequency, i get no channels! I don't know what's the problem. I tried several frequencies that i'm sure they work04:00

superm1yeah the first release was a mad rush for getting things in08:52

superm1so will be 8.1008:52
superm1hopefully 9.04 will be some more reworking and features again08:52
hadsAnd 0.22 :)08:53
superm1personally i'm thinking that once i've abstracted the installer enough, i won't be stuck focusing on installer bugs most of the cycle like i did for 8.04 and i have been for 8.1008:54
superm1which will leave more time for working on the stuff that's interesting to end users08:54
cbrunnerthat would be awesome09:00
cbrunnerI fixed all my issues I had last night superm109:01

humehi... I am in the process of installing mythbuntu for the first time - in the partition manager, it suggests to use two partittions, one 22 % of the HD for /dev/sda3, and the rest for "mythbuntu" - anyone can tell the logic behind this?11:08
humemy intention was to use some 10 GB, rather than the suggested 97 GB, for system, and the rest for films etc, which is more like 5 % for sda3, not 22... but is there a good reason for mythbuntu's suggestion?11:09
humei've just made a brand new installation of mythbuntu, and configured the computer to use propr drivers (fglrx) - but when watching live TV the image jumps, is not a steady flow. anyone got ideas on what to check?12:12
humebackend runs on other machine, connection via ethernet cable12:12
MezHey, any of the devvys around? I need to ask a couple of technical questions regarding what info a frontend needs to connect, and then put forward a suggestion for an app that might make mythbuntu that little bit cooler13:08
hume_i have a script that I want to run on log in (sshfs-mount) - how do I set this to be done automatically, in xfce / mythbuntu? have used gnome sessions settings before13:39
Mezyou can probably do the same... though generally, for stuff like that - I'd set it up as a script to run on boot...13:42
Mezor add to fstab13:42
hume_fstab is not a good idea, it seems - the network is not up when it tries to mount from fstab...13:43
hume_go another idea on where to put it?13:44
hume_Mez, got any idea on where to put it so it is run on boot - after network is up?13:46
Mezhume_, er, yeah, one sec13:47
hume_ok13:48
Mezcreate a script called /etc/rc2.d/S99sshfs-mount (the sshfs-mount can be anything)13:50
Mezactually13:50
Mezignore that13:50
Mezedit /etc/rc.local ...13:51

planhello! Anyone knows if it's possible to connect a stb SA explorer 4250 with mythtv throught firewire in ubuntu 8.04??17:58
rhpot1991plan: yes, depending on your cable co18:09
rhpot1991plan: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV_Firewire18:09
zabbadappAnyone got the xbmcmythtv-script working? The new native support in xbmc for myth:// is lacking, so I decided to try the older py-script from sourceforge. But what is supposed to happen when you start it from the scripts menu? A small progressbar appear for a while, then nothing. The log says "no such file or directory: ./test/languages/English/langinfo.xml".18:14
planmy cable company is videotron...18:15
rhpot1991plan: basically you need to get the box into debug mode and see if the channels are encrypted18:16
rhpot1991some may be while others may be open18:16
planok... how can I put my box in debug mode?18:16
rhpot1991then you need to figure out what is open and what isn't and only let the firewire access the open ones by removing the encrypted ones from your source18:16

planok thank you again!18:36
eimajenthatWhen playing a DVD in mythbuntu, using the Internal player, it was real choppy, so I thought I'd try switching it to Xine, which has served me well on my desktop.  I'm getting an error about there being no input plugin to handle dvd:/.  Googling the error says that it's often caused by not having libdvdcss, but I have libdvdcss2 installed, and libdvdread and libdvdnav.  The same DVD works fine in Ubuntu 8.04 on Totem-Xine.  Is19:18
eimajenthat there anything mythbuntu does differently in this area that could be causing the trouble?19:18

tgm4883_laptopolskolirc, yes, most things are already setup for you.  You will have to run though mythtv-setup.  PVR-150's work OOTB.  Please read the manual23:44
