mnWell, firmware is software that is associated with a specific piece of hardware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware for more info).  You need to install it for your card to work.  It's kind of like the BIOS for your pc00:19

gm04030276mikz: its not connecting properly. any other information?22:26
ubuntuwhats this kubuntu's web browser?22:27
ubuntukonquerer?22:27
gm04030276skole: Daisuke_Ido: Thanks; There you go, try filelight22:27
skoleI am running out of disc space right as we speak.. Do I have a virus or something?22:28
gm04030276ubuntu: yes konquerer is kubuntu's default web browser...though it may have firefox on the live cd aswell, im not sure22:28
dwidmanndr_willis: First place I would check would be in the window after you clicked burn, the filesystem tab ... should be an option for "filesystem presets"22:28
Daisuke_Idoskole: i'm willing to guess that no, you don't have a virus22:28
ubuntuno there is no firefox22:28
ubuntukubuntu has any problem with Ati?22:28
Daisuke_Idodid you execute any commands via a terminal recently?22:28
ubuntui installed ubuntu and pardus :S22:28
mikzwell i have another database which does connect when i run the same query. This is the full error:"Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /var/www/apache2-default/query.php on line 7"22:28
gm04030276skole: maybe, i've seen that happen on my mac twice...it tended to be that something was coping from somewhere to somewhere else.22:29
ubuntuwhen i installed ati driver then couldnt open systems again22:29
dwidmanndr_willis: windows should be able to hanlde anything but "linux/unix only" I would think22:29
skoleBut why have I lost 0,3 GB without doing anything?22:29
gm04030276mikz: its not finding the data associated with the query you are trying to run22:29
Daisuke_Idogm04030276: there's always the possibility that someone gave him a malicious command to recursively create files or append junk data to a file22:30
gm04030276mikz: if you can try running the command in phpmyadmin...it sometimes gives better error messages22:30
ubuntuwell no comment about ati drivers?22:30
mikzi use the follow connect string: "$db = mysql_connect("localhost");"22:31
ubuntukubuntu has problem with ati?22:31
gm04030276Daisuke_Ido: yea. could be.22:31
Daisuke_Ido!ati | ubuntu22:31
Daisuke_Idoor not :\22:31
Daisuke_Idoubuntu: check the forums, i don't know much about ati22:31
gm04030276mikz: you need to add a username and password aswell (at least i always have...)22:32
ubuntuhmm ok22:32
gm04030276mikz: what mysql_connect() statement do you use when it does work to the other database?22:33
mikzhow do i do that (sorry i'm new to php and mysql)22:33
ubottuubuntu: For Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto22:33
gm04030276mikz: $db = mysql(<server>, <username>, <password>);22:34
gm04030276mikz: its ok, i was new to it a few years ago to :)22:34
gm04030276mikz: do you use phpmyadmin?22:35

mikznope i first used phpmyadmin to create the first test database which was fine, then i created another one same way and i couldn't see the new database unless i type in mysql -u root -p and then login to see the new database i created and since then when i run the same query it works for the first but not for the databases i created after22:38
dr_willisdwidmann upon farther research.. it seems in fact that windows does NOT handle 'udf' type dvd filesystems or least not all kinds of them22:38
dr_willisdwidmann i just installed somthing from nero's web site i think that will let vista read it.. but of course. it wants to reboot...22:39
dr_willisso that will wait a bit.22:39
dwidmanndr_willis: oh, that's fun22:39
dr_willisaparently MS also has its own 'udf' format/standard it uses.22:39
dwidmanndr_willis: and that's about ______ typical.22:40
gm04030276mikz: ok, your better to create a new user with less permissions that root and with a password! phpmyadmin makes this easy. If you login to it as root on the first page there is a privileges option22:40
dr_willisaparently MS's udf filesystem they use has a hard time getting read under some linux's also22:40
dr_willisso i guess the moral is.. dont use udf unless you have to.22:40
dwidmanndr_willis: sounds like the universal format isn't.22:41
gm04030276mikz: click on that and you can create a user and/or modify root to have a password. If this is just a testing learning system for home its not that important but if you ever start doing it professionally you will need to be more secure!22:41
dr_willisdwidmann thats an EXACT comment from the forums/threads i am reading. :)22:41
dwidmanndr_willis: that's freaky ... and funny22:42
dr_willispeople in the threads seem to think 'udf = the feature ms invented to use a dvd/cd/cd-rw/dvd-rw as a big floppy disk'22:42
gm04030276mikz: you can just try mysql_connect("localhost", "root"); for now if you want (no need to enter the password parameter because root doesn't have one...unless you make on in which case put it in! :) )22:42
dr_willisbrb22:44
dwidmannGuess doc decided to do that reboot then.22:44

NullNameWith ubuntu running vsftpd, is it true that users outside the LAN will get faster dw/up speeds than with running ssh as a server??22:54
NullNamenv22:54
dr_willisssh has a bit more overhead due to the encryption22:55
dr_willisbut its more secure  i guess.. so its a trade off.22:55
Schuenemannhey, how is the support for the ATI M72 graphic card?22:55
skolehow to stop nautilus?23:03
dr_willisthe gnome file manager?  you can kill the pid of the task i guess23:03
dr_williswowsers.. my 'pipe'  key is no longer workin.. neither is the right brace/bracket... weird23:05
dr_willisand this is my Fav Keyboard!23:05
gm04030276skole: killall nautilus23:05
skoleI have deleted a vital file I guess. Now I cant open any thing'23:09

snovado the kde4 applications clash with the kde3 ones? like if i install kwrite-kde4, is this going to want to replace the kde3 version? or is it named differently?23:12
dr_willisthey had different names, but i think they are undergoing some changes for the next release23:15
dr_willisat one time you would have 2 icons in the menus, one for the kde3, one for the kde4  program23:15
will_I'm thinking of switching from ubuntu to kubuntu.  Is there anything I should know,  would want to know,  or just plain need to know.23:19
Schuenemannwill_, you could try it23:20
will_true23:21
Schuenemannthen you'll know if you like it and that's what matters23:21
rickestwill_: you don't even have to reinstall, you can just 'apt-get install kubuntu-desktop' and 'apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop' if you don't want to keep both23:21
will_looking for a diffrent perspective.  Maybe that of a long time kde user23:22
coreymon77will_: nothing in particular that you need to know, our suggestion is to just try it and see what you think23:22
will_Ok I think I will do that, thank you all23:23

FuriousGeorgei have a ps2->usb adapter, which only works in gentoo.  in gentoo usbhid is built into kernel, in kubuntu it is an external module23:41
FuriousGeorgecoincidentally the mouse half of the adapter works fine in either distro23:41

Dragnslcr!ati23:55
ubottuFor Ati/NVidia/Matrox video cards, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto23:55
dr_willisdepends on the exact card. Normally one uses that restricted-manager/hardware-manager tool   - and let it download/install the proper drivers23:55
dr_willisBUT if the card is very new. the drivers in the repos may not support it.23:56
suleymani looked there but couldnt understand anything:S23:58
