x_linkHi00:24
x_linkI just have a question.00:24
x_linkI installed Kubuntu on my laptop that I bought today.00:24
x_linkI did something right now and the speaker-icon next to the clock dissapeared.00:24
x_linkHow can I get it back?00:24
cosmofieldx_link: kmix00:25
x_linkcosmofield: Okey, will take a look.00:26
x_linkcosmofield: Thanks00:26
x_linkcosmofield: I have another problem.00:27
x_linkI can't get any sound.00:27
x_linkOn my new laptop.00:27
x_linkWhen I have the mousepointer over the speaker-icon it says that the volume is on max and I see a picture of a headphone.00:27
x_linkBut I don't get any sound at all.00:27
x_linkCard: HDA Intel00:28
x_linkChip: Realtek ALC861-VD00:28
x_linkView: [Playback] Capture All00:28
x_linkThat's what alsamixer says.00:28
x_linkAnd I use Kubuntu Gutsy. A guy just told me that this card is not supported in Gutsy. But can that really be true?00:28
cosmofieldx_link: true, in hardy it is working ootb, I have the same sound card in my laptop00:29
x_linkcosmofield: Wow, that's really not good news =/00:30
x_linkcosmofield: So I can't do anything about it at all except from re-installing?00:30
Denise<richardbh> ok..i updated various things today. Does anyone else have little sparkly noises play whenever you open, close, minimise or maximise something?00:31
cosmofieldx_link: it is easy to get it work, I just edited a config file, don't remember exactly00:31
x_linkOkey, in Gutsy+00:32
x_link?00:32
x_linkOr do I really have to install Hardy?00:32
Deniseit is ok00:32
cosmofieldx_link: you need to recompile alsa, there's various howto guides covering that sound card in gutsy00:33
x_linkcosmofield: Okey, I REALLY suck on this.00:33
x_linkI really don't know much about Linux and absolutly not about compiling.00:33

Denisefor the guts00:40
cosmofieldx_link: there's one site with info about re-compile alsamixer  http://www.masclat-micros.com/alc861vd.htm00:40

LeeJunFanI guess it's my turn to ask for help instead of always just giving :p... I got a new HD, it's too big for my bios to handle (over 137G), and I've never tackled this problem before. I thought after the system was booted linux rather than the bios handled it, but even now booting from USB it says sda is only 137G. I have a feeling it's the sda stuff in ubuntu ignoring my boot params for cyl,head,sec03:18
nicodarious_LeeJunFan: it sounds like you have two options03:18

nicodarious_ok, well i know the 2.04 is only an alpha release, so it may be best to stay with 2.0203:36

nicodarious_but really, i would change your partition table on your 250GB drive (or whatever the size is).  it may be the easiest route03:37

emmanuelhi hi im emmanuel04:56
emmanuelfrom argentina04:56
nicodarious_yeah, same here.....  but i have narrowed it down quite a bit04:57
emmanueli got a problem04:57
nicodarious_what is it, emmanuel?04:57
emmanuelwhy when I see a flv video in youtube, this looks slow? and pixeled too...04:58
emmanuelIm using ubuntu04:58
LeeJunFanwell, I'm gonna dd my mbr/part tables on my new drive and try again. biab maybe.04:59
nicodarious_that's the video for you. crappy editing04:59
kylosehello everyone04:59
emmanuelbut this happens with every video of youtube, in each browser that I use05:00
nicodarious_emmanuel: have you checked it with a video that you have made yourself yet?  or watched an avi file with another player?05:00
nicodarious_hello05:00
kylosei was wondering if anyone could help with a raid issue05:00
emmanuelwell, avi file plays cool05:00
nicodarious_emmanuel: then it's the video then.  not your player05:00
nicodarious_kylose: what issue?05:01
kylosetrying to create a raid 5 array using mdadm, but i keep getting "mdadm: error opening /dev/md0: no such device or address"05:01
emmanuelbut plays frame per frame, you know05:01
nicodarious_emmanuel: there's nothing that we can do to fix someone's compression of a video05:01
kylosei tried adding --auto=yes to the end of of mdadm05:01
nicodarious_ohhhh...05:01
emmanuelnot pixeled, sorry, framed05:01
kyloseno go05:01
nicodarious_emmanuel: just a sec.05:01
emmanuelok thanks05:02
nicodarious_kylose: ok, now have you set up the partitioning table and set it correctly with a uuid and then inserted it into /etc/fstab correctly?05:02
nicodarious_emmanuel: the file you are trying to watch is a flash video right?05:03
kyloseno, none of the tutorials i've been able to to understand have mentioned that05:03
emmanuelits of video thats embebed in youtube05:03
nicodarious_emmanuel: i would suggest going to your synaptic manager and downloading swf player or something.05:04
emmanuelIm watching it directly from youtube05:04
emmanuelI got the swf player installer and running05:04
emmanuelits installed and running, sorry05:05
nicodarious_kylose: ok then, brb.  i think i have a website about setting up a raid in Ubuntu.05:05

nicodarious_emmanuel: have you installed Flashplayer also from synaptic?05:05
emmanuelthats right05:05

nicodarious_kk.  brb.05:06
kyloseall drived have ext3 on them using gparted05:06

nicodarious_ok, emmanueli would now suggest to uninstall swf OR flashplayer.05:06
nicodarious_kylose: that's your first no no05:06
emmanuelok, then?05:07
kylosemm?05:07
nicodarious_kylose: delete ALL partitions on the drives05:07
nicodarious_kylose: do not partition the drives.  the raid setup will partition them for you in it's own special way05:07
emmanueland then? Do I have to install again?05:07
kylosenic: all partitions are now deleted05:08
nicodarious_when i set mine up, my raid 0, i used lvm characteristics on the drives.05:09

nicodarious_i would suggest getting rid of one.05:14
emmanuelah, ok05:14
emmanuelso I have to uninstall one of them?05:15
nicodarious_also, see if you can get the latest player and install that thru Firefox or something. a great place that i go to is the nvidia website since they like pretty flash stuff on their website.05:15
nicodarious_i would suggest uninstalling all flash players for now.05:16
nicodarious_then installing one, or installing one thru firefox by visiting a flash-made site, like nvidia.com05:16

thefishits not exactly what you are asking, but it will solve your problem, and can be very useful for non fish:// aware apps09:40
thefishget hold of sshfs09:40

=== kabotage is now known as kabo
izzybJuJuBee, I wouldn't use the local admin to test, you need to duplicate the environment as much as possible so I'd unmount /home on one of the workstations and rsync one of the users home folders to the local workstation and run that way for that user and see if it crashes19:52
izzybcat /etc/exports19:53
JuJuBeeOk, I will.19:53
bbeckTwylight: can you put the complete output of running on pastebin? (http://paste.ubuntu.com)19:53
Twylightsure, but it's really straight forward19:53
JuJuBee/home   192.168.6.0/255.255.255.0(async,no_root_squash,rw)19:53
izzybdevo, at the command line did you type firefox or firefox-2?19:53

devoi did firefox19:54
izzybhmm, comment out one of them19:54
JuJuBeeJust commented out one19:54
izzybdevo, what does the menu help/about say?19:55
izzybyeah, you shouldn't be exporting it twice with the same options.  could be the problem19:55

izzybJuJuBee, This is what I use for my home export:  rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check19:56
Twylightnow it's neither running nor inactive, but some state of in between19:56
JuJuBeeWhat is teh no_subtree_check for?19:57
Twylighttherefore the program is not working, but the administration directory is still locked, preventing my access19:57

izzybdevo, doesn't it have the firefox version number in help/about?19:57
izzyboh, ok19:57

Twylightthe question I've been asking for the last 30 minutes, is what is the command that will fix this problem, because I've dealt with this before, I know what the problem is but I need to know what to put into the terminal to fix it19:58

MrKennieTwylight: try sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get -f install19:58

TwylightI cannot access it19:58
Twylightit's like chmodding chmod to 55519:59
Twylightalthough not as irreversible19:59
izzybJuJuBee, you mean when theirs a crash.  possibly restarting it on the server would help, but I don't know what the effect of that would be with 14 workstations accessing it19:59
izzybdoes it freeze on all of them at the same time?19:59
JuJuBeeAround the same time.  within about 2 minutes.19:59
