Insidehello00:19
Insideany way to hide the titlebars of windows?00:19
zoredacheI believe you can use something like devilspie to undecorate a window00:20
Insidehmm00:20
Insidejust trying to install eeexubuntu onto my eeepc and the resolution is so small that I can't fit the entire xubuntu install window.00:20
Insidefunny huh00:20
zoredacheI would probably use the alternate installer for an eee instead of the livecd...00:21
Insidelike?00:21
Insidei'm using a usb stick00:22
zoredachewhat do you mean like?  The iso is named 'alternate'...  How did yo build your usb?  Did you copy the contents of the livecd onto it?00:23
zoredache!mini00:23
ubottuThe Minimal CD image is very small in size, and it downloads most packages from the Internet during installation, allowing you to select only those you want (the installer is like the one on the !Alternate CD). See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD00:23
zoredache!alternate00:23
ubottuThe Alternate CD is a classic text-mode install CD. It supports a wider range of hardware than the !LiveCD, and can also be used as an upgrade CD.  Look for the alternate checkbox on the Ubuntu download page - See also !minimal - Torrent at http://releases.ubuntu.com/8.04.1/ubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-i386.iso.torrent00:23
Insidezoredache: well there's some sort of a special xubuntu install made just for the eee with the drivers, etcetc already on there00:24
Insideif the alternate/mini cds have anything different, I'm afraid I don't know how I'd install the proper drivers.00:24
Insideoh hur hur00:27
InsideI can just the alt key >_>00:27
Insidealthough that does eliminate all of the excitement of trying to find the right key combos to get through the installer00:28
DCPomhas anyone been unable to use pidgin-libnotify?00:49
DCPomand do they have a solution to the problem?00:49
zoredacheI symlinked .gaim to .purple00:50
InsideWith a 2GB HD and 512MB of ram, is it okay to have no swap partition?00:50
zoredacheInside: sure00:51
DCPomzoredache, i don't know how to symlink00:51
zoredachefire up a terminal, and do an ls -al in your home directory and see if .gaim exists...00:52
DCPomit doesn't00:52
zoredacheif it doesn't then simply run the command ln -s .purple/ .gaim00:52
DCPomthat didn't work, i still can't enable libnotify00:54
zoredachedo an ls -al on ~/.purple/ make sure you account owns everything00:55
DCPomi do00:55
DCPomi found online that running pidgin with /usr/bin/dbus-launch /usr/bin/pidgin works, but it's inconvenient00:57
atticstorm_Hello, does anyone have an experience getting sound working on a ThinkPad x21?01:05
DCPomdoes anyone have a solution to get pidgin-libnotify working?01:41

zapper23mHi07:16
zapper23mI need a list of networking commands I can use on terminal. I was unable to find it on google. Can anyone provide a link informing about commonly used network commands?07:19
zoredachewhat do you mean?07:20
zapper23mi want to connect to another laptop on my home network07:22
zapper23mfrom my laptop, i want to know its ip address by scanning the network07:22
zapper23mthen i want to know the operating system it uses07:22
zapper23mand the open ports on that network07:22
zapper23mthen i want to connect with some of the open ports and share some files07:22
zapper23mi just want to know the commands with which i can do all these things on terminal07:22
zoredacheread up about ssh, nmap, ping, tcpdump, fusesmb, smbclient, wget, rsync, telnet07:28
zapper23mthank you :)07:30
zapper23mi was reading about ftp07:30
zoredachethat is useful in some cases too, but ftp is becoming less and less popular because it is difficult to get through firewalls and routers running NAT07:31
zapper23mi tried ftp then open 192.168.11.x 23 it said connection: connection refused, the lappy is on winXP perhaps firewall is blocking it07:33
zoredachewindows xp doesn't have an ftp server running by default07:38
zapper23mokay...i am trying to install nmap now07:39
zoredachesudo apt-get install nmap07:41
zapper23mhappening...ty07:42
zapper23mi found 6 open ports msrpc, netbios-ssn, microsoft-ds, NFS-or-IIS, ms-term-serv and admdog07:51
zapper23mcan any of these ports be used for transferring files?07:51
floatinganyone using rhytmbox ?10:15

=== danopia_ is now known as danopia
coldhaki've installed alsa, my sound works, but I can't use two sound applications at once(ie, skype-amarok, amarok-mplayer11:11
coldhakhow can I fix that?11:12
coldhak....it's still damn early in europe isn't it?11:18
krylyxwell11:19
krylyxits early here in brazil anyway :P11:19
krylyxcoldhak: check if both of them are using alsa as output plugin11:20
coldhakamarok doesn't appear to have a setting for that. i do'nt know what it uses11:20
coldhakskype uses alsa11:21
coldhakatleast i thought it did, i don't see options for that either11:21
krylyxwell, I never used amarok before, as it's a kde software, i would recommend you using audacious.    i had the same problem you have now, it was just a question of fixing which output plugin each software uses. audacious by default wasn't using alsa, then i set it up and everything started working11:22
coldhakI quit using audacious 'cause it crashes all the time.11:24
krylyxwell, there are something strange then. it never crashed to me...11:26
krylyxwell, i really gotta go, job is waiting11:26
krylyxgood luck :-)11:26
coldhakwell, in particular it goes "OMG TOO MUCH" when i load my library :)11:26
coldhakapparently three weeks solid is a lot of data.11:27
coldhakwith some incompatible file types, which it just stops on11:27
coldhakstops playing that is11:27
coldhaki'm going to try this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=10112511:28
venomecoldhak: yea, I had simmilar problems, it wasn't able to play some of my MP3 - it played only a second and than 5 seconds of silence ....11:28
venomenow I use a media manager instead11:29
coldhakI used xmms2 after audacious, but i like amarok. management and smartplaylists and stuff is nice11:29
venomeand I'm running pulseaudio as the backend, no problems so far11:33
venomeyep, I use amarok too11:33
venomeits faster than banshee and has more features than rhythmbox11:33
floatingi want to scrobble internet radio stations with last.fm11:36
floatinganyone know any players ?11:36
venomeyep, amarok11:37
venomeor banshee, rhythmbox11:37
floatingthey do it by default ?11:37
venomeI think also audiacious and XMMS have plugins11:37
floatingif you play like some station from shoutcast.com11:37
venomeby default... ussually you have to enable the feature / download plugin11:38
venomeand then enter your last.fm account information11:38
floatingmkay.. i see. which of those players i might want11:38
venomeas i've said, I think amarok is the best one11:39
floatingdo you yourself scrobble internet radios ?11:40
venomenope, I scrobble only last.fm streams and my own MP3's11:40
venome(cause i don't know any good radio that plays the music I like)11:41
floatinglets see if i can find the plugin for amarok11:42
venomeI think its there if you install it from repository11:42
venomeyou'll just have to go thru the menus to enable it11:43
floatinguff... database11:47
floatingtheres an option to submit tracks i play11:54
floatingand to retrieve similar artists11:54
venomeretrieve similar artist = you'll get reccomendations that are shown in amarok11:55
venomesubmit tracks = normal scrobbling11:55
floatingso i might need a plugin ?11:56
venomewell if scrobbling is enough, then you dont need it11:57
venomejust tick the submit tracks11:57
floatingi try play some radio and see..11:57
venomealso, you have to enter the last.fm details somewhere11:57
venome(dont have it installed on this pc11:57
floatingyeah, i already scrobbled a local file so it works11:57
floatingok.. doesn't scrobble these radio streams12:03
coldhak:D i fixed my sound problem12:04
floatingafter a song ends, some message popped up, but couldnt make anything of it cuz im on dual screen and it chose the poor tv screen for to show it :o12:04
coldhakdrag it to the good screen?12:04
floatingits not a window12:05
floatingsome balloon that is visible for few seconds12:05
floatingi wonder if venome was 100% sure that you can scrobble internet radio12:07
floatingand didnt mix it with last.fm streams...12:08
floatingalthough he seemed to be :/12:08
coldhakdefine "scrobble", google's only word of it relates to last.fm12:10
floatingscrobbling means to submit track information to last.fm profile12:13
floating14:13:15 <@nhnFreespirit> floating: I am not sure that has ever worked in  amarok 112:14
floating14:13:39 <@nhnFreespirit> in Amarok 2 it _might_ become possible very soon,  as last.fm is getting a major overhaul12:14
floatingI suggest people to consider giving advices when they know what they are talking about :(12:14

oklinux_is xubuntu is a rolling realease ?14:29
cody-somervilleNo14:37
cody-somervilleIt is time based release cycles14:38
oklinux_so is not like archlinux where is a rolling realease ? what is the advantage of rolling realease ?14:38
ablomenoklinux_, more up to date, but theoraticly less stable14:40
ablomensince you have a lot of updates, including new versions of libs and software, there is a bigger chance of incompatibility problems between libs and programs14:41
oklinux_so is not always good ?14:42
ablomenwell, depends on what you want14:42
ablomenfrom your linux distrobution14:42
oklinux_stable easy fast less headage14:43
ablomenwell then a release cycle based distro might be the thing for you14:43
oklinux_like xubuntu14:43
