thismamacooks200if I run a repeating playlist or a long video in *any* media player, it stops playing and the player eventually stop playing sound at all until I close and restart it. I also have the same problem with audio in firefox. Games also will not make sound if firefox or a media player are opened first.06:34

sbalneavMorning all14:54
Eeyore-Jrhi.  i quite a few questions18:15
Eeyore-Jrcan i use ltsp server as a central login/home/storage server but use standalone machines18:15
sbalneavEeyore-Jr: You could18:37
sbalneavIt'd take a bit of modification of things, but not too much18:37
NubaeEeyore-Jr: take a look at www.nubae.com theres an article about using ltsp to serve fat clients... which is more or less what u want, except there is no data stored on the client machines18:48
Eeyore-JrNubae: thx19:03
Eeyore-Jrso ltsp will serve to pii 450 with 512mb ram and work as well as it were if it were running on the server?19:11
Eeyore-Jrsomeone referred me here, as i was looking at ubuntu intrepid server and installing ltsp.  is there a difference between edubuntu and ubuntu + ltsp ?19:12
Eeyore-Jri'm looking for "lean"19:12
sbalneavedubuntu = ubuntu + ltsp + educational apps19:13
Eeyore-Jri've looked at the educational apps, and some of them are cheesy.  i've been thinking about paying someone to build some apps19:13
Eeyore-Jri guess my question about edubuntu was, is it pre-configured, or does it matter for ltsp ?19:14
Eeyore-Jrah, and what about windows apps on wine.  run the same way ?19:14
sbalneavWhy not pay to have someone help to make the current apps less cheesy :)  That benefits us all, then.19:15
sbalneavYes.19:15
Eeyore-Jrsbalneav: well, yes, there is that19:15
Eeyore-Jrok, next question, i can install ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, e17 on ubuntu ltsp and let the end user choose his desktop ?19:16
sbalneavWell, you simply install whatever desktops you'd like on the server, and then the user can choose from there.19:16
Eeyore-Jrgoing the ubuntu server route, i'm going to need xwindows as well19:17
sbalneavyes19:17
Eeyore-Jrnm, i'll kubuntu it and then do e1719:17
NubaeEeyore-Jr: if u want ltsp, you're best of sticking with ubuntu19:35
LnsNubae!20:01
DrXhow can you see the version of your RAID driver?20:25
sbalneavDrX: Some context would be useful :)20:58
sbalneavI mean, uname -a gives you your kernel version, which, depending on your raid driver (i.e. if it's a built in one) is also it's version20:59

Eeyore-JrNubae: ?21:21
Eeyore-Jrany particular reason why stick with ubuntu?21:21
Nubaecause ltsp has been heavily tested on Ubuntu only...21:22
Nubaeits definitely gnome reliant21:23
Eeyore-Jr:(21:23
Eeyore-Jrguess i'll be a guine pig21:23
Eeyore-Jr :)21:23
Nubaedoesnt mean u cant run kubuntu, its just apt-getting the ltsp server stuff21:23
Nubaebut u'd have less problems with ubuntu21:24
Eeyore-Jrah, that's what i think i'm doing now with bare ubuntu server21:24
Eeyore-Jrless probelms because edubuntu or ubuntu  has better confiugriaon21:24
Eeyore-Jri noticed in aptitude there is standalone, vs server ... port forwarding boot requests?22:00
Eeyore-Jrwhat is a fused server?22:05
Eeyore-Jri suppose i could put the standalone on now and then sepearte the two later22:07
Eeyore-Jrlooks like there is clietn and client-core ... but adept doesn't tell me what is so different about them22:10
sbalneavltsp-server-standalone includes the dhcp3-server package being installed.  ltsp-server doesn't include the dhcp3-server package.22:18
sbalneavMost people want the -standalone package, as they typically don't have a dhcp server already.22:18
varikkHello all22:21
varikkcan anyone point me to some documentation that explains setting up an edubuntu server for my school and thin clients?22:22
sbalneav!docs22:29
ubottudocumentation is to be found at http://help.ubuntu.com and http://wiki.ubuntu.com - General linux documentation: http://www.tldp.org - http://rute.2038bug.com22:29
sbalneavAlso:22:29
sbalneavhttp://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LtspDocumentationUpstream22:30
sbalneavHeading home22:31
sbalneavbe on later22:31
Eeyore-Jrwell, i'm about ready to test the idea of ltsp on a consumer machine with 7 clients and see if it works.  :)22:32
Eeyore-Jrk, has anyone tried to use music software with a usb piano keyboard and ltsp server serving the app?23:04
Eeyore-Jror i guess the question is, does ltsp recognize the local usb ports23:04
Eeyore-Jris there a way to "monitor" a ltsp workstation?  ie, see what is going on video wise?23:22
Eeyore-Jrah, ha, hit f4 and the ltsp server will install23:28
Eeyore-Jrhrm, 8.10 does not have a ltsp option23:31
Nubaereally23:32
Nubaeit should... the alpha and beta did23:32
Nubaemake sure its the alternative cd23:33
Eeyore-Jri'm on the beta, and f4 only gives normal and minimal23:33
Nubaealternative cd?23:33
Eeyore-Jrubuntu server cd or ubuntu alternate?23:33
Nubaeubuntu alternate23:33
Eeyore-Jris there an ubuntuer server alternate?23:33
Nubaeno23:33
Eeyore-Jrah.  booting from ubuntu, xubuntu or kuubntu will install ltsp for that particular flavor? or just a base ubuntu ltsp server?23:34
Nubaeparticular flavour23:36
