[06:34] if I run a repeating playlist or a long video in *any* media player, it stops playing and the player eventually stop playing sound at all until I close and restart it. I also have the same problem with audio in firefox. Games also will not make sound if firefox or a media player are opened first. === nubae1 is now known as Nubae1 === Nubae1 is now known as Nubae === Guest32689 is now known as bananin === Guest38672 is now known as bananin === Guest38672 is now known as bananin === Guest38672 is now known as bananin [14:54] Morning all [18:15] hi. i quite a few questions [18:15] can i use ltsp server as a central login/home/storage server but use standalone machines [18:37] Eeyore-Jr: You could [18:37] It'd take a bit of modification of things, but not too much [18:48] Eeyore-Jr: take a look at www.nubae.com theres an article about using ltsp to serve fat clients... which is more or less what u want, except there is no data stored on the client machines [19:03] Nubae: thx [19:11] so ltsp will serve to pii 450 with 512mb ram and work as well as it were if it were running on the server? [19:12] someone referred me here, as i was looking at ubuntu intrepid server and installing ltsp. is there a difference between edubuntu and ubuntu + ltsp ? [19:12] i'm looking for "lean" [19:13] edubuntu = ubuntu + ltsp + educational apps [19:13] i've looked at the educational apps, and some of them are cheesy. i've been thinking about paying someone to build some apps [19:14] i guess my question about edubuntu was, is it pre-configured, or does it matter for ltsp ? [19:14] ah, and what about windows apps on wine. run the same way ? [19:15] Why not pay to have someone help to make the current apps less cheesy :) That benefits us all, then. [19:15] Yes. [19:15] sbalneav: well, yes, there is that [19:16] ok, next question, i can install ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, e17 on ubuntu ltsp and let the end user choose his desktop ? [19:16] Well, you simply install whatever desktops you'd like on the server, and then the user can choose from there. [19:17] going the ubuntu server route, i'm going to need xwindows as well [19:17] yes [19:17] nm, i'll kubuntu it and then do e17 [19:35] Eeyore-Jr: if u want ltsp, you're best of sticking with ubuntu [20:01] Nubae! [20:25] how can you see the version of your RAID driver? [20:58] DrX: Some context would be useful :) [20:59] I mean, uname -a gives you your kernel version, which, depending on your raid driver (i.e. if it's a built in one) is also it's version === banain is now known as bananin === banain is now known as bananin [21:21] Nubae: ? [21:21] any particular reason why stick with ubuntu? [21:22] cause ltsp has been heavily tested on Ubuntu only... [21:23] its definitely gnome reliant [21:23] :( [21:23] guess i'll be a guine pig [21:23] :) [21:23] doesnt mean u cant run kubuntu, its just apt-getting the ltsp server stuff [21:24] but u'd have less problems with ubuntu [21:24] ah, that's what i think i'm doing now with bare ubuntu server [21:24] less probelms because edubuntu or ubuntu has better confiugriaon [22:00] i noticed in aptitude there is standalone, vs server ... port forwarding boot requests? [22:05] what is a fused server? [22:07] i suppose i could put the standalone on now and then sepearte the two later [22:10] looks like there is clietn and client-core ... but adept doesn't tell me what is so different about them [22:18] ltsp-server-standalone includes the dhcp3-server package being installed. ltsp-server doesn't include the dhcp3-server package. [22:18] Most people want the -standalone package, as they typically don't have a dhcp server already. [22:21] Hello all [22:22] can anyone point me to some documentation that explains setting up an edubuntu server for my school and thin clients? [22:29] !docs [22:29] documentation is to be found at http://help.ubuntu.com and http://wiki.ubuntu.com - General linux documentation: http://www.tldp.org - http://rute.2038bug.com [22:29] Also: [22:30] http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LtspDocumentationUpstream [22:31] Heading home [22:31] be on later [22:32] well, i'm about ready to test the idea of ltsp on a consumer machine with 7 clients and see if it works. :) [23:04] k, has anyone tried to use music software with a usb piano keyboard and ltsp server serving the app? [23:04] or i guess the question is, does ltsp recognize the local usb ports [23:22] is there a way to "monitor" a ltsp workstation? ie, see what is going on video wise? [23:28] ah, ha, hit f4 and the ltsp server will install [23:31] hrm, 8.10 does not have a ltsp option [23:32] really [23:32] it should... the alpha and beta did [23:33] make sure its the alternative cd [23:33] i'm on the beta, and f4 only gives normal and minimal [23:33] alternative cd? [23:33] ubuntu server cd or ubuntu alternate? [23:33] ubuntu alternate [23:33] is there an ubuntuer server alternate? [23:33] no [23:34] ah. booting from ubuntu, xubuntu or kuubntu will install ltsp for that particular flavor? or just a base ubuntu ltsp server? [23:36] particular flavour
