\Kirait comes out on oct. 30, so it should be pretty stable by now, but dont take my word for it00:01
retf|uke: good point.00:01
ret\Kira: i liked death-note00:01
retthe release candidate comes out soon, and i already have the iso for the beta.00:01
rethas anyone encountered 'issues' with the beta though00:02
\Kiraret: Yea, not were I got the name from originally, but after I saw it I loved it. Too bad light died :(00:02
ret\Kira: very shit ending.00:02
\Kiraret: I think it added realism, and in the directors cut light doesnt die forever.00:02
rethmm.00:03
MrD1hi i downloaded the the new version of ubuntu, but a few things dont work does any one know how to install the old headers they dont seem to show up in synaptic00:03
\Kiraret: but yes, I wished he had won. But I could just see it coming with how confident he was00:03
\Kiraret: in the directors cut he becomes a shimigami, following the rule that he will go to "nothingness", meaning the shimigami world, but this isnt the place to get in depth about a anime :P00:04
freeksh0w86When installing Kubuntu 8.10, it doesn't continue after the keyboard layout screen, just disables the buttons, any ideas?00:05
freeksh0w86*beta00:05
ret\Kira, word.00:05
freeksh0w86This thing runs better on a Dell Inspiron 531 workstation than my own System76 machine :|00:06
freeksh0w86err.. maybe my CD-Rs are rubbish00:09
freeksh0w86seems to be doing something now.00:09
ret?00:09
freeksh0w86Trying to figure out why my install screen was stuck. But it is moving now.00:09

mkhlnshhody. i've installed intrepid beta using a livecd. ive installed cryptsetup and lvm2, loaded modules and i did all the things that have to be done. after reboot all things are working ok. except one thing that is kinda odd. after some updates, don't know exactly which ones, the initramfs was updated. i got this message: "cryptsetup: NOTE: using /dev/mapper/vg-lv1 instead of /dev/vg/lv1 for lvr" in this message vg is the lvm2 volume group and lv100:55
mkhlnsh is the second partion on this volume group opened with cryptsetup luksOpen as lvr and mounted as /00:55

manomanhello, i did the upgrade from 8.04 to 8.10 and now my graphics always say it needs to go into safe mode and didn't load the nvidia gpu driver or something like that.  what can i do?00:57
manoman(Kubuntu, by the way.  kubuntu channel recommened i come here for video advice)00:58
mkhlnshthe problem may not be a real problem but if i use a different /etc/crypttab, and instead /dev/vg/lv1 i use /dev/mapper/vg-lv1 the system won't boot.00:58
mkhlnshmanoman, do you still have the old driver installed?01:00
manomani'm not sure... i just ran the upgrade01:00
manomanif it retains old drivers, then yes.01:00
manoman(the screen also flashes ever 10 seconds or so)01:01
mkhlnshi'm not sure if it does. did you checked the packages that had to be removed and those that had to be installed?01:01
JontheEchidnamanoman: could you pastebin /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?01:01
manomanyeah01:02
* manoman rolls over to linux box01:02
angusthefuzzanyone get this while upgrading: unable to make backup link of `./usr/share/applications/synaptic-kde.desktop' before installing new version01:02
manomanhttp://www.pastebin.ca/123331001:03
manomanmkhlnsh:  i didn't do a package by package check, i'm not knowledgeable to know which apply to the different versions01:04
manomanJontheEchidna:  does that pastebin show anything useful?01:04
JontheEchidnasorta :P01:04
JontheEchidnaI think that's the output from the failsafe session01:05
manomani'm in failsafe now01:05
JontheEchidnayeah, unfortunately the failsafe overwrote the log telling what happened when the proprietary driver failed01:05
JontheEchidnaI'm not familiar with the failsafe, but is there a way you can drop down to the command line without booting X?01:06
mkhlnshmanoman, check if ya still have the old driver installed.01:06
manomanmkhlnsh:  how do i do that?  adept?01:06
mkhlnshuse any package manager01:07
manomanJontheEchidna:  i can init 1 or whatever you need01:07
JontheEchidnamanoman: actually you can probably press crtl alt f1 to get to a console01:07
JontheEchidnacp the log file somewhere else, then paste that01:07
joshualhow can I burn a 12gb tar.gz file onto more than one dvd ?01:08
retby splitting it up.01:08
joshualret how can I do that?01:09
manomanok, i've tty1 open01:09
retjoshual: how big is a dvd?01:09
mkhlnshmanoman, backup your xorg.conf and after that try "reset" it using: sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg01:10
manomani think X is still running though (in the failsafe mode)01:10
retgood, you extract the archive, and create seperate archives of dvdsize.01:10
retrelatively simple, i reckon.01:10
JontheEchidnamanoman: ah, that sucks. failsafe never was handy for debugging issues01:10
joshualret 4.7gb01:10
JontheEchidnait seems the failsafe's greatest advantage (not leaving you at the console) is also it's greatest disadvantage01:11
retjoshual: so, divide your archives into 4.7GB bits, which leaves you about 3 dvds.01:11
retthere are some tools that do this automagically.01:11
retbut i'm not sure.01:11
joshualdivide is a pretty broad term01:12
manomanmkhlnsh: ok, i ran that.  it said something about backing up a conf file and dropped back to the cmd line.01:12
manomanJontheEchidna:  sounds like it :)01:12
manomanmkhlnsh:  should that command have started a wizard or anything?01:12
manomanor should i reboot X now?01:12

mkhlnshmanoman, you should try to find out what packages have bee installed and which have not. i had the same problem as you, updated from 8.04 and didn't installed all packages. i ended reinstalling 8.10 from scratch. maybe you have more luck...01:27

guissSplex, the last time I used ntfs was when it started to have write support but I was using ntfs-3g03:10
Splexchuxxsss, what is the problem?03:10

Splexchuxxsss, what happens when you run ubuntu?03:12
wangI have to turn on, off the mice and then it works.. is there a way I can avoid that?03:12
Jordan_Uguiss: Because ntfs-3g is the sane choice for mounting ntfs partitions03:12
guissJordan_U, yes... but fstab says ntfs and not ntfs-3g, that's where I seem to miss something03:13

Splexeither ubuntu version will work, but amd64 version is optimized for your system and gives you 64 bit support..03:16
Splexthe live cd works?03:16
Jordan_Uguiss: As far as I understand what you specify to mount ( and in the fstab ) is the fstype, not the method used to mount that fstype, normally there are corresponding modules of the same name that are used to mount that fstype but that does not have to be the case03:17
chuxxsssThank Splex03:17

wishieHobbsee: or compile 2.6.27 kernel myself, without the ubuntu patches and splash etc04:15
Hobbseedarn04:15
DanaGHeadless... just in time for Halloween.04:17
MightyTweekHey all... when I boot my machine running Intrepid, I get the Ubuntu splash screen, and then I get a screen with a yellow background and the mouse pointer, but the mouse won't move, and nothing else happens... any ideas?04:17
chuxxssssplex can I paste what the xorg.conf says in gentoo live may help someone other than me04:18
wishiehmm, anyone know where i can get the 'broken-out' patches applied to the hardy/intrepid kernels ? ill apply them by hand to 2.6.27 and massage it into hardy :P04:18
casdfi think some people said the nikond40 camera autodetect was working in 8.10; its still broken for me04:18
Hobbseewishie: patches.ubuntu.com04:19
MightyTweekIt was working up until Oct 9, when I did an update... I've since used ctrl-alt-f1 to get to the console and done an apt-get update and upgrade, but still getting the same issue... I'm running the x64 distro if that makes a difference04:19
jgossMindVirus, I've reported the bug at launchpad. It's bug #287334 . You could confirm it and hopefully a solution will arrive eventually.04:22

DanaGIf I apt-get build-dep the PulseAudio packages, will it stop saying autoconf is too old?04:26
wishieHobbsee: grr, cant find a nice easy list of the applied patches in there, yet.. ill have to dig further04:26
DanaGI don't mind building stuff myself... as long as it actually builds.04:28
bsniderDanaG, what issue are you having?04:30
wishieahh ok, i can just 'apt-get source' the linux-image-2.6.24-generic, then check debian/patches dir in the resulting download.. thats easier.04:31
DanaGLast time I tried to build PulseAudio myself, it said autoconf was too old.04:31
DanaGI need the git version for fixed zeroconf (see ticket above:)04:31
DanaGhttp://www.pulseaudio.org/ticket/35204:31
Mark_MillimanDanaG, I just had problems compiling Banshee because autoconf is too new.  Go figure?04:34
bsniderthere are multiple autoconf versions in the repository04:36
bsniderluke will probably allocate some time to repackaging pulse 9.13 if you file a bug about this04:38
mike1hi all04:45
mike1anybody in?04:45
chuxxsss hi mike04:46
mike1hi04:46
gaelfxI can't open update manager, when I try in terminal, it gives Valueerror: Bad Marshal Data from urllib2.py, can someone help me figure out the issue?04:47
mike1i just recently ran all the updates in intrepid (which has worked b e a utifully) and it undid compiz so when i apt-get compiz it reinstalled and it dissabled my video diver now when i try to install the driver compiz requires to work (nvidia 173) it gets to 60% and crashes every time and reboooting doesent solve it. so im stuck in low graphics mode and cant install the driver what should i do?04:48
gaelfxalso, I can't get medibuntu repos to work, it always says that it has no public key, is this a unique problem, or have others been having the same issue?04:49
bsnidermike1, what gets to 60%?04:49
gaelfxI'm guessing the download04:49
gaelfxor installation process04:49

romulohi is fglrx already working?04:50
bsniderin jockey04:50
bsnideryou don't need jockey to get the nvidia driver to work04:50
bsniderfglrx is working yes04:50
mike1so whado i do?04:50

mike1oh also my sound stopped after the updates any posts on that?04:51
bsniderthe 'hardware drivers" manager or whatever it's called now04:51
bsnidermike1, that could be any of a million different causes04:52
bsniderone thing at a time04:52
gaelfxmike1: have you checked in the Preferences menu under sound to see which lib it's using?04:52
mike1lemme get graphics driver working and we'll come back to sound04:52
gaelfxgood call ;)04:53
madkatcan someone help with my install problem please04:54
romulobsnider, i click activate for fglrx and nothing happens on jockey :P04:54
MightyTweekmadkat, go ahead and tell us what the problem is04:54
madkatI just burnt the disk, ran it through the media check and it passed, and I get "[Errno 5] Input/output error: '/rofs/usr/share/doc/libilmbase6'" after it formats.04:55
bsniderromulo, i gues sthey haven't fixed jockey then. i'm not an ati guy. i know you need to get dkms to build and install the fglrx module and you need a usable xorg.conf file. beyond that, you'll havet o get help from someone else04:55
mike1bsnider: i have and 8xxx sieries but when i try to use compiz it tells me i need the 173 driver to make everything work and your post sais its best for me to use 177 (which i was using before i tryed to use compiz) so what exactly is going on here?04:56
chuxxsssthanks bsnider may need it too ones the alt cd DLs04:56
bsnidermike1, you need the 177 driver period. do what my post tells you to04:56
bsniderlol04:56
mike1ok i'll get it goin04:56
bsnideri'm such a jerk04:56
mike1well lemme try 177 from jocky real quick04:57
romulobsnider, hmm thanks. whats dkms? i tried to build it with module-assistant but it failed. I might need to redownload the sources, will try that thanks!04:57
bsniderthe 173 driver will work for that card too, but it isn't what nvidia recommends for post-5k cards04:57
mike1lol 177 chrashed at 77% i guss its back to your post :D04:58
bsniderdkms is "distributed kernel module source" -- it's a system for automatically rebuilding modules into new kernels without a lot of heavy lifting04:58
romulohmm cool05:00
gaelfxah, so if I want to use the restricted driver on GeForce GO! 6150, I should also use the 177 driver?05:00
romulotesting - think i disconnected05:00
mike1i need to get more familliar with terminal, i know the basics but i prefer how mutch better everything works in terminal so i need to learn more05:00

bsnidermike1, did you ever have the nvidia driver installed before now?05:09
mike1yea05:09
bsniderhow did you install it?05:09
chuxxsssno Idea best ask someone who knows that05:10
mike1jockey05:10
madkatwho would know?05:10
BHSPitMonkeyanyone else have problems with mouse button clicking?05:10
madkatme, but its my mouse05:10
madkatit's flown a few times05:10
BHSPitMonkeyhmm05:11
BHSPitMonkeysince upgrading, it behaves for me such that I can barely use it at all05:11
mike1bsnider: so whats the deal?05:11
BHSPitMonkeywhenever I release a mouse button, it's doing a release then another click then another release05:12
bsnidermike1, this is a difficult problem to resolve05:12
BHSPitMonkeywhich, you can imagine, makes things really hard to use05:12
romulobsnider, doing sudo aptitude reinstall fglrx-kernel-source and then activating the driver on jockey did the trick05:12
romulobut for the second time i restart and my theme configurations are not here, neither my icons05:12
chuxxsssis there anything I need to no when install the ALT CD as Im a bit of a novice05:12
chuxxsssbefore i go05:13
bsnidermike1, try uninstalling libgl1-mesa-glx05:13
mike1what is the full command?05:13
romulomike1, sudo aptitude remove --purge libgl1-mesa-glx05:13
crdlbyou should never uninstall that package05:13
mike1why?05:13
mike1now im scared...05:14
bsniderit will likely cause a chain reaction that will remove most of hte rest of your system05:14
bsniderthen, reinstall the ubuntu-desktop package05:14
crdlbso just reinstall it instead05:14
mike1why would you do that to me!!!05:14
DanaGsudo aptitude reinstall packagenamegoeshere05:15
crdlbuninstall nvidia-glx-177, sudo apt-get --reinstall install libgl1-mesa-glx05:15
bsniderwhat worries me is the dpkg-divert issue05:15
crdlbthen install nvidia-glx-177 again05:15
romulobsnider, any idea why my icons on gnome arent here?05:15
romuloim wondering if gnome-settings-daemon is running correctly05:15
crdlboh, you don't have it installed yet ...05:15
BHSPitMonkeyby the way, nm-applet does not show by default for me and my friend after upgrading05:15
mike1how to uninstall 177?05:15
bsniderthe nvidia driver diverts mesa's libgl in favour of its own. the fact that that is failing here suggests a messy problem that requires a purge to fix05:16
mike1crap05:16
romuloBHSPitMonkey, it wasnt for me either, after a boot it came out05:16
bsnideri don't think just reinstalling would be enough05:16
romuloBHSPitMonkey, also check if your wireless is working05:16
crdlbmike1: just try sudo apt-get --reinstall install libgl1-mesa-glx05:16
bsniderbut, try it anyway i guess05:16
BHSPitMonkeyromulo, I manually started nm-applet, wireless picked up fine.05:16
mike1i dont wanna do anything untill we all come to a good conclusion lol (fresh freeken install)05:16
BHSPitMonkeyI'm using it to be on IRC right now.05:16
BHSPitMonkeymy friend is sad to see that nm-applet doesn't show his 3G card after the first boot05:17
mike1its reinstalling i hope it work if it doesent then....05:17
mike1it's done reinstalling now what?05:18
crdlbnow try to install nvidia-glx-177 again05:19
romulowonder my icons dont show, neither mouse pointer when i change appearance properties05:19
bsniderright05:19
mike1k just a sec05:19
bsniderhe just upgraded. even if he has to remove most things, he still has all of it in his apt-cache anyway05:20
angusthefuzzhas anyone had trouble upgrading/installing synaptic?05:21
mike1the 177 install worked this time so do i just continue with your post bsnider?05:21
bsnideryes05:21
mike1k05:21
mike1be back if i have more problems05:21
crdlbI do wonder why that was necessary though ...05:22
crdlbI guess it was some sort of confusion between the old lrm system and the new stuff05:22
bsnidercrdlb, that happened to me when i installed the nvidia driver through nvidia's installer instead of synaptic05:23
crdlbyes, that would do it05:23
bsniderbut he says he used jockey05:23
DanaGHeh, Intel 2200BG wireless can't do WPA2 in Windows... but works just fine in Linux.05:25
mike1i had to use the nvidia installer to get ubuntu to first boot. then after updates it was dissabled so i inabled 177 then more updates and had to redo compiz after compiz redo it told me i HAD to have 173 to use it so i tryed switching to 173 and all hell broke loose05:25
DanaGI discovered that when I booted Windows on this old Toshiba to see if the nvidia drivers there were non-sucky.... but then I couldn't connect to my access point.05:26
crdlbok, that explains it05:26
mike1it seems like everytime i get ubuntu running great and update breaks it lol05:26
crdlbdpkg got upset when it couldn't figure out who owned /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.205:26
crdlb(since nobody did as far as it was concerned)05:27
bsniderDanaG, that's sensational. i love that. you just made my night.05:28
DanaGSo, my solution: I just nuked the Windows partition.05:28
DanaGIt was an old, abandoned install.05:28
DanaGOh yeah, and did I tell you about the screwed-up EDID Toshiba has?05:29
mike1bsnider: should i just copy and paste your xorg into my own?05:29
DanaGIt identifies itself as 966x768.... so the nvidia Linux binary drivers (before they ABI-broke), and even the Windows drivers, used that resolution.  I actually had to modify the INF to override EDID info.05:29
DanaGBest thing about the lack of WPA2: the status message.05:30
DanaG"Authentication with the access point has not begun."05:30
DanaGYes, "Has not begun."05:30
DanaGAnd it just sat there.  Doing nothing.05:30
bsnidermike-solidus, absolutely05:31
mike-solidusits says linux-generic is bieng kept back, is there a reason not to install this, is this the generic one, or will this install the amd64 version automaticly?05:31

AaronMTDanaG: Thanks but I'm running ATI05:56

DanaGWhy such little attention to such a big regression bug?06:00
isilion_DanaG, i suggest you dont go ATI. ATI sucks. ATI's drivers sucks. And ATI's support suck. Just spend your dollars in Nvidia, which its fully supported by linux06:02
DanaGFully supported?  I don't call closed source, fully supported.06:03

casdfwell, freezes up08:07
casdfe.g. on gmail or youtube, anything with large amounts of js or any flash it seems08:07
rethmm.08:08
casdfyahoo main page and search works fine08:08
casdfwell, flash is working atm08:09
retit may or may not be part of the succession of pango related problems.08:09
retoh, so flash works and js does not?08:09
rethmm, i wouldn't know.08:09
casdfokay, and now gmail is working :|08:09
LogicalDashcasdf: I've been having troubles where having multiple Flash apps open will cause them all to go slower. Is it something like that? I assumed it was a problem with the Flash plugin.08:10
casdfi restarted ff ~5 times yesterday and it kept crashing the sec i logged into gmail08:10
casdfLogicalDash: nah, with all plugins disabled, and just starting new session of ff, going to gmail would cause a hang, and cpu usage of 50%08:10
casdfon dual core08:10
retsorry, but i haven't used firefox in about two years.08:11
LogicalDashcasdf: well, updates are pretty frequent while we're in beta, maybe you just downloaded a new ver. of firefox that fixed the problem08:11
casdfLogicalDash: it could've been that my system reboot earlier today fixed it i guess. maybe it was in some bad state after updating, yeah.08:12
casdfoh, with your flash issue though,08:12
casdfi do notice when i have flash open across tabs and such,08:13
casdfsometimes it'll just completely stop working until a ff restart08:13
casdflike, videos will only play for two seconds08:13
LogicalDashcasdf: There's probably nothing to be done about that, unless Adobe's serious about open source08:13
LogicalDashand experience suggests they're not08:13
casdfi see.08:15
casdfso a very common issue?08:15
retLogicalDash: i'll give them a few years.08:15
ret50 or so.08:15
casdfheh08:15
LogicalDashyeah, basically the Linux version of Flash is poorly maintained and we're not allowed to fix it08:15
casdfwhos gonna be using flash in 50 years?08:15
casdfexcept historians...08:16
casdfif im wrong i will eat my shorts.08:16
LogicalDash50 futurebucks says that the few remaining Flash developers will be making mad money interfacing with ancient, poorly constructed websites with no other user interface.08:17
casdfwhos gonna be using websites in 50 years?08:17
LogicalDashthe same types of people who can't be bothered to upgrade their backend databases from COBOL08:18
Kr0ntabLogicalDash: haha... so true...08:21
casdfhmm, whats apport...08:23
casdfeh, and flash crashes again08:24
LogicalDashOh, guys, I solved the file association problem, I had a bad desktop config file in my .local/share/applications08:25
LogicalDashYay08:25
avisanyone know when banshee will be fixed in intrepid ?08:49
DJonesAre there any known issues with Flash 10 in Intrepid? My wife plays a game called Yoville on facebook and on the intrepid machine, it won't play.  On windows it works fine using the equivalent version of Flash 10 Beta (same version numbers) and on Hardy it works fine with Flash 9.  On INtrepid it just sticks at the initial screen and doesn't let you connect to the server08:51
avisi dont play flash videos too often, most of the time, they have not failed for me.  i dont play them enough to know my gut says it plays them much better08:52
avisi do not remember too many times of flash not working, some maybe.  much better than hardy08:53
avisi believe i did have to install libflashsupport for it to work though.  i may remove that if its unnecessary later08:54
avisoh sorry DJones.  i didn't read your problem.  alot of sites i think have not gone to full flash 10 compatability i think08:55
avisyou might see if you can go back to flash 9 on intrepid, thought, it might still crash like in hardy.  i'm not sure if thats possible08:55
DJonesavis: It seems to be an INtrepid Flash 10 issue, Flash 9 on Hardy works fine and Flash 10 on Windows from the adobe website doesn't have the same problem, both the INtrepid and Windows version have the the same version number08:56
DJonesavis: unless there's another plugin I need to install that i've not picked up yet, I tried using epiphany browser and that actually got as far as trying to connect, while firefox didn't even get that far, I'm wondering whether its a firefox issue rather than Flash now08:58
avisooh.  there is the libflashsupport package to smooth out flash troubles.  i'm not quite sure if it will fix that though i know it was being used to fix sound issues, so, not sure09:00
lemonadei guess libflashsupport isn't needed with flash 10 anymore09:01
avisooh.  ok.  thank you09:01
lemonadeactually, i don't see it in the repos at all anymore09:02
BUGabundo_workhello RAOF09:04
BUGabundo_worklemonade: hi!09:04
DJonesI'll have to have a play round and see if I can find a solution, I might try installing flash 10 on a hardy install that currently works to see if that narrows the problem down to flash 1009:04
avisyou might want to make sure you can go back.  if flash 9 is working09:05
lemonadeBUGabundo_work: hello09:05
avisi'm sure its simple09:05
DJonesavis: If it doesn't work and I can't go back, its no loss, Its on a spare machine anyway09:06
avisok :)  you probably can go back though.  i'd just ask around for someone to let you know how, or read the README, or something.  not worth ruining a working box09:06
BUGabundo_worklemonade: are you the guy from #jaiku ?09:07

Wavesonicsit's using 2.6.27 which has ext4 out of "dev", so i wish they would atleast put it there for us to play with10:27
ikoniaWavesonics thats what I thought, it's not included10:28
ikoniano need to include it, it's unstable10:28
WavesonicsFedora's been shipping it for a while now, stable *enough* for some of us to mess around with it10:29
Wavesonics+ ext4 format has been frozen, so our drives would remain compatable with future patches10:29

darren__Hi every body. could some one please let me know how to completly remove a wifi driver from ubuntu11:51
knittlhi! after changing my screens brightness i can't move windows, open menus or type… any ideas?11:51
ikoniadarren__: define remove11:53
ikoniadarren__: do you want to remove the driver from the kernel, or disable it, or just remove teh firmware11:53
darren__ikonia, i think the new ubuntu version has a rtl8187 beta driver and it wont let me install the driver patch from ubuntu for packet injection so i want to compleatly uninstall it so i can install from aircrack11:54
ikoniadarren__: thats a binary driver, how do you expect to patch a binary driver ?11:55
ikoniadarren__: thats part of the kernel, you can't just remove part of the kernel11:55
ikoniahow are you trying to patch it11:55
darren__it has a page on aircrack with the guide lines which i followed with ubuntu 8.04 now when i try to install it comes back with errors after the make make install command11:56
ikoniadarren__: thats because the kernel version / headers/gcc version is different11:57
ikonia8.04 kernel info won't be appropraite on 8.1011:57
darren__ikonia, so in otherwords untill there is an update from aircrack it will be useless11:58
ikoniadarren__ pretty much11:58
ikoniadarren__: patches need to be written for specific source targets normally11:58
ikoniachanges in the compiler and source packages will be prone to make it fail11:59
darren__ikonia, ok i found the old guidelines with the new patch but still seems to be the same problem11:59
ikoniadarren__ depends what version the new patch is aimed at12:00
darren__ok sorry to be a pain then is there any way of having the older version of ubuntu and the the new version and then being able to choose which one to boot into sorry im kinda new to this12:00
darren__its just a spent days working out the last patch and installing12:01
ikoniadarren__ no12:01
ikoniadarren__: your using beta software - expect things not to work / be stable / be patches yet12:01
supert0nescould put them on separate partitions and put home on another partition from that and boot both with the same home12:02
darren__ikonia, true is it 8 days now till the stable version12:02
ikoniadarren__ so ?12:02
ikoniaaircrack patches are not mainted by ubuntu12:02
ikoniaso it's nothing to do with them if it works or not12:02
darren__ikonia, yes that is true12:02
darren__and thank you for the advise i think i just have to wait or goback to ubuntu 8.04. and thank you again12:04
supert0nesdarren_ is my advice not possible?12:04
darren__supert0nes, im not sure i have a duel boot system with vista i will have to look into it. have you tryed it befor12:05
supert0nesi can understand if you don't want to waste the space12:05
supert0nessure you can have 3 and 2 as ubuntu12:05
supert0nesand with using the same home it will be like starting the same os on both12:05
BUGabundo_worksupert0nes: you can use qemu to test drive it12:06
darren__supert0nes, ok also thanks for the advice i will have to do a bit of searcing on this12:06
supert0nesya if you just want to test beta software install virtualbox or qemu12:06
supert0nesthe entire os will be loaded into a virtualbox file12:07
darren__supert0nes, but im sure virtualbox uses the same drivers as the main os not seprate12:07

lusepuster_Hi channel; just upgraded here. The new user switcher/status applet seems nifty and nice, but it confuses me a bit. The online/away/... status is shown to other computers on the local network, or? And which application is it shown in? I'm not logged in to Empathy, so what status is it showing then?13:35

lusepuster_I have a few quirks after upgrading. The music player apps don't seem to react to the assigned global hotkeys anymor (which are set correctly, I just checked). Known bug, and is there a fix?14:15
lusepuster_And another quirk - in my Places menu, when I try to open my home or desktop folder or one of my Nautilys shhortcuts, it gives me an error message saying something went wrong running Audacious! Any idea what is up?14:18

alabamahitE: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)14:23
alabamahitE: Unable to lock the download directory14:23
tsurulusepuster_: it sounds like some how Audacious has been associated with opening folders. I had this problem with comix. Sadly I don't know exactly how I fixed it... I believe I might have run 'nautilus --no-desktop' from the CLI and it fixed it for me...14:24

TychoQuadbecause it doesn't, and it won't let me change anything14:42
lusepuster_tsuru, amrik what is the problem exactly?14:42
amriktsuru: right me too. so i think its because X had an update so perhaps scim cannot pick up keyboard input any more14:42

janesthello i am new to ubuntu. I want to setup an Lamp Server to host a few websites. I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu Server and i am not trying to install vnc server so i can work on the server remotely. I installed x11 vnc-java but i can not connect to the server. Can ne1 help me18:02
danbh_intrepidjelly: yeah, I dunno either18:03
jellydanbh_intrepid: in other words, I want to get it from upstream.  However, I only see 8-10 on ATI's site, and that tarball seems to contain 8.54218:03
a1len_I can't get the Aircrack-ng that's available via synaptic to work correctly.18:03
a1len_Anyone know what to do?18:03
danbh_intrepidjelly: yeah, well, Im just getting to know packaging....18:03
danbh_intrepidjelly: the orig.tar.gz is supposed to be the upstream version, but the changelog should also record where it was gotten, and what kind of repack was done.  But I don't see that18:04
jellydanbh_intrepid: _if_ ubuntu is following debian packaging policy, then debian/copyright should contain the tarball origin, not the changelog18:06
danbh_intrepidoh, ok18:06
jellydanbh_intrepid: debian/README.Debian says "Further information can be found at http://www.ati.com/ -- look for the "Drivers & Software" page and follow links to the Linux drivers."18:06

DarthFrogdanbh_intrepid: Yes.18:14
danbh_intrepidDarthFrog: try this command to reinstall the defaults for your system!  sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop^             and dont forget the ^18:14
DarthFrogOK.  What's the ^ for?18:14
danbh_intrepidtry it, and see18:15
joaopintodanbh_intrepid, that command will not reinstall anything, it will just install the kubuntu-desktop related packages not available on the system18:15
danbh_intrepidyou can always cancel18:15
DarthFrogHey, that's a useful trick. :-)18:15
danbh_intrepidjoaopinto: yeah, you are correct, it doesn't to reinstalls, but I'm open to suggestions of how to describe it.  The one you gave, "install the kubuntu-desktop related packages not available on the system" doesn't quite make sense to me18:17
DarthFrogThe thing is, networking is working (obviously).  I have DNS.  I can get mail.  I can browse with Konq.  I can ping, I can ssh.  But firefox/chatzilla can't find anything.18:17

skyjumperjust installed openoffice 3.0 from the packages at http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu ...18:22
ninjafuryI have an external drive partitioned as HFSPLUS (no journaling) and I can only open files on it as root. How do I make it so that regular users can read/write from it?18:22
skyjumpernot sure how to change the theme... themes from the packages aren't showing up in tools/options/openoffice/appearance18:22
danbh_intrepidDarthFrog: you can sudo apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment and autoremove won't do that, but the real issue might be that the command I gave you removed a gnome meta package?  But gnome isn't part of kubuntu, I dunno18:23
ZenithDKhi, does someone know of problems with intrepid not remembering your session?18:23
emma_goldsteinthere's no services-tab in my bluetooth-applet - any idea how to recover the services-tab ? bluetooth-services are up and functional.18:23
ctxHey guys, I am using ubuntu since 6.10 and know it very well, also many of the xperts-stuff, but I never tried unstable versions except of in VMs, I planned to buy a new system in about two weeks and install intrepid, but now my old system has so hard problems, that I will buy the new components tomorrow: My question, Should I install the beta or is there some bigger risk? I will do a complete backup.18:24
DarthFrogdanbh_intrepid: I'm not that bothered about the removal of GNOME, I can always put it back.  But this firefox thing is stumping me.  It's not in offline mode and networking is working everywhere else. Firefox was working before I did a dist-upgrade and rebooted.18:24
ctxWhat are the pros and cons? Mark that my new CPU (AMD Phenom X3) need the new kernel for working out of the box18:24
danbh_intrepidctx: intrepid comes out next week18:25

skyjumperfound where the "themes" are in openoffice... so how do you set it to display gtk widgets?18:26

DarthFrogctx: Intrepid beta is working pretty well.  But you could always install Hardy and do an _in situ_ upgrade once Intrepid is formally released.18:26
ctx^yeah, good idea, but people say upgrade is not good as a new install, I already upgraded my 7.10 to Hardy and there were some problems, when I install the intrepid beat it automatically will update to final next week, right?18:27
DarthFrogautomatically? No, you'll still have to allow it.18:29

bsniderfirst file http://paste.ubuntu.com/61194/21:35
bsnidersecond file: http://paste.ubuntu.com/61196/21:36
AaronMTThank you21:37
arrrghhhso intrepid is cool, but i'm having the same issues with video card installation.  it worked, but when i run nvidia-settings and try to set my video card up, i click "save to config file" and it crashes...  my old xorg.conf evidently won't work as when i first booted intrepid it said it couldn't load with my current config.21:37
bsniderarrrghhh, that's a known bug in nvidia-settings21:37
arrrghhhbsnider, any workarounds?  i run "system settings" and literally nothing happens... which is a little disturbing.21:38
bsniderarrrghhh, i'm confused about what you mean21:38
mnemocarrrghhh: segfault most probably :p21:39
mnemocarrrghhh: try running it from command line21:39
arrrghhhbsnider, well the old system settings in kde3 was where i set everything from user accts to display settings etc.21:39
bsniderwhat does system settings have to do with your graphics card?21:39
bsnideroh, you're using kde21:39
bsniderstop doing that21:39
arrrghhhbsnider, nothing, but i was hoping i could set my screen resolution from it.21:39
arrrghhhuh...21:39
arrrghhhoh i thought i went to kubuntu+121:40
arrrghhhwth21:40
bsnideryou want your resolution to be the native monitor resolution right?21:40
arrrghhhi can't use gnome.  and yes.21:40
bsniderthere is no kubuntu+121:40
arrrghhhmaybe that's why i'm here lol21:40
bsniderok, no problem21:40
bsniderthe nvidia driver will automatically drive the monitor up that high. you just have to load it21:40
arrrghhhnvidia-settings is a good tool, but not if it doesn't work.21:40
arrrghhhbsnider, nvidia-xconfig?21:41
bsniderNO21:41
arrrghhhlol21:41
bsniderdo NOT use that command21:41
mirakwhere can I find fixboot and fixmbr ?21:41
arrrghhhok21:41
bsnidermirak, on the windows xp disc21:41
arrrghhhmirak, sounds like windows fix tools...21:41
arrrghhhyea you can boot into recovery console and run those mirak21:41
mirakno they where available on ubuntu21:41
bsniderarrrghhh, open a terminal and run the following command: dkms status21:41
arrrghhhbsnider, hold please21:41
mirakI need the linux version21:41
mnemoccat /usr/lib/syslinux/mbr.bin  :)21:42
bsniderarrrghhh, if you get "built" or "added" instead of "installed, you've got an issue21:43
arrrghhhbsnider, i get two, one for 2.6.24 and one for 2.6.27.  both are "installed"21:43
bsnidergood21:44
bsnidernow you need a working xorg.conf21:44
arrrghhhbsnider, which i had with hardy... i still have the xorg.conf i ran with hardy.21:44
bsniderarrrghhh, that one won't work anymore21:45
arrrghhhmirak, what are you wanting to achieve?21:45
bsnider\use this one http://paste.ubuntu.com/61200/21:45
arrrghhhbsnider, lol i gathered that.21:45
bsniderafter you've got that file in place, reboot. it will work21:45
mirakarrrghhh: I need to fix windows boot, and I need to do it from linux. so in the past I used fixboot, but it's not available on ubuntu anymore for copyright reasons21:45
arrrghhhmirak, i'd use the windows utilities to fix windows problems... usually a bad idea to mix that stuff.  like trying to use a windows tool to fix a linux problem, not a good idea.21:47
bsniderno offense to jonathan riddell or anyone else, but if you wantt o use kde, you might consider one of the distros that specializes in it, like suse or mandriva21:47
willy2anyone use a scanner ?21:48
mirakarrrghhh: so you are just wrong, I already used it, it works fine21:48
arrrghhhbsnider, well i really do like ubuntu.  suse gave me a bad taste and mandriva i haven't used in a looooong time.  kde runs great w/ubuntu, it just seems to get a lot less polishing and attention than the gnome counterpart.21:48
arrrghhhmirak, i didn't say it's impossible just a bad idea.  sheesh.21:48
bsniderwell of course because ubuntu's specialty is gnome21:49
willy2sc21:49
arrrghhhyea.... and i... don't like gnome.21:49
zyrorl_anyone else having issues with gnome-settings-daemon crashing since the last update?21:49
mirakarrrghhh: since it works fine, it's not21:49
zyrorl_it wont stay up21:49
zyrorl_starts up then dies21:49
mirakI just need to find it since it's not shipped with ubuntu anymore21:49
zyrorl_so none of my themes work, and volume control applet is fubar21:49
arrrghhhmirak, whatever.  i'm just telling you how things work and what's a good idea and what's not.  have you tried google?  it's an amazing tool.21:50
zyrorl_mm looks like other ppl on forums have the same issue21:52
mirakarrrghhh: yes, but I can't find yet the upstream website21:52
bsniderzyrorl, there was someone in here earlier complaining about it21:53
arrrghhhbsnider, well that's not exactly what i wanted for a configuration but we'll see...21:55
Nickname_haffi__21:57
arrrghhhwell imma try it.  brb22:00
zyrorl_bsnider,  yeah there seems to be a workaround for it something in libvisual broke in the last break22:00
zyrorl_i ran: sudo mv /usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/actor/actor_nastyfft.so /usr/lib/libvisual-0.4/actor/actor_nastyfft.so.FIXME22:00
zyrorl_and it fixed it22:00
zyrorl_stopped gnome-settings-daemon crashing at least22:00
luboszhi22:01
luboszi ran a configure script and got "error: Couldn't compile moc output"22:01
luboszgoogle does not seem to give good info on that22:01
luboszany advice?22:01
luboszchecking for Qt4 libraries >= 4.1.1... found22:05
luboszchecking for functionnal Qt setup... nope22:06
luboszconfigure: error: Couldn't compile moc output22:06
chuxxssshi all I having a problem now with with flash player can't get it to work as there is no 64 bit linux one on the adobe site any help would be need22:09
chuxxsssthink I fix it must be getting old22:12
tMishWhich option to 'apt-get install' let me install but skip the configuration step ?22:13
lubosztMish: only download the debs?? y?22:15
jmworxbsnider: apparently, it's the "Auto eth0" that's causing problem22:16
jmworxI'm not yet sure whether it's actually a bug or a case of really bad interface22:17
jmworxOf course, the fact that the config tools change with every Ubuntu release doesn't help either22:17
arrrghhhbsnider, yea that broke X.  defaulted back to an even lower resolution.22:19
bsniderarrthen you've likely got the wrong driver22:21
bsniderwhich nvidia card is it?22:21
bsniderthe 173 should be used for geforce 5k cards. anything newer should use 177. anything older than the geforce 5k won't work22:24
arrrghhhbsnider, okie so i'm back to where i was.  nvidia-settings does segfault when i try to save config settings.  i'm using 177, i have an 8600gt.22:24
bsnidercheck dmesg to see why the driver isn't being loaded22:25
arrrghhhi would think the driver is being loaded...  nvidia-settings works up until i hit save config settings.22:28
arrrghhhi wouldn't think nvidia-settings would run at all (at least with any functionality) if the nvidia driver was not being loaded.22:28
bsniderit's being loaded but hte monitor is at the wrong resolution?22:29
bsniderthat's hard to believe22:29
arrrghhhwell it's at 1024x768.  full resolution is 1280x1024.  i can pick higher resolutions, but not that one.  my second screen (an hd lcd) detects the proper resolution when i enable it, but i can't save the settings w/o the program segfaulting.22:30
bsniderwhat kind of crummy monitor is this?22:30
arrrghhha crummy dell.22:31
bsnideryou'll have to hack the xorg.conf file manually22:31
bsniderthere's no other way22:31
arrrghhhi don't get why my old xorg.conf doesn't work?22:32
bsniderbecause the new x server doesn't need it anymore22:32
arrrghhhi had it setup perfect.  took me a while (including custom hacking)22:32
bsniderunless you're loading a proprietary driver22:32
arrrghhhso what configures it?22:32
arrrghhhoh22:32
arrrghhhwell... that still doesn't make sense why it won't work.22:32
bsnidernothing configures it22:33
bsniderit isn't supposed to exist22:33
arrrghhhnow you're just confusing me further.  how does xorg get its configuration if it's not supposed to exist?22:33
bsniderthose settings have been moved elsewhere22:34
bsniderthe only reason to use it is if you're using the nvidia driver or fglrx. in other words, a driver that xorg doesn't support22:34
arrrghhhyea.  i know they can't support the driver since it's properitary, but still... i got this working in feisty, gutsy and hardy.22:35
arrrghhhi was hoping it would get easier... it seems to have done the opposite.22:36
bsnideryour monitor is the issue here, not xorg22:37
arrrghhhit seems my video card is the issue.22:37
mirakarrrghhh: http://ms-sys.sourceforge.net/  I found it22:38
bsniderit's expected to transmit proper information, and it doesn't appear to be doing so22:38
arrrghhhbsnider, well... it is a piece of crap.  it's an old dell 17" lcd.  still, i set it up before properly i don't see why i can't do it again.  why is the nvidia-settings application segfaulting?22:39
bsniderbecause it is22:39
bsniderit is for everybody22:39
bicchiwhere can i download the iso image from the release candidate of october 2322:40
arrrghhhawesome?  it didn't used it.22:40
arrrghhhder it didn't used to.22:40
arrrghhhbicchi, ubuntu.com22:40
bsniderit isn't the 23rd yet, to my knowledge22:40
bicchii tough on the 23 there was supposed to be a new iso image22:41
arrrghhhbicchi, oh the RC isn't out yet.22:41
bicchiwhen ?22:41
arrrghhhbicchi, well the 23rd on their time... which i think is pacific.  just cuz it's already the 23rd for you doesn't mean it is for the rest of the world.22:41
mirakarrrghhh: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/m/ms-sys/22:45
alabamahit?22:45
alabamahitRC22:45
arrrghhhrelease candidate22:45
jyroYesterday's updates messed up a lot of things for me.  My laptop can no longer sleep.  Gnome-settings-daemon won't run.  Both the power applet and sound applet no longer function.22:45
samuelCan anyone advise me how to debug a dhcp issue - I have a dhcp server running, I think it is configured correctly. My network card is in 'master' mode and the windows laptop can see the network. However, it won't connect. There doesn't seem to be any output in syslog about why it is failing!22:46
jyroHas anyone else had similar difficulties after the latest updates?22:46
arrrghhhmirak, what is that?22:46
alabamahitthought it was due 30th?22:46
arrrghhhalabamahit, the final version.  there's many versions prior to "final release"22:46
arrrghhhthe ubuntu site has a roadmap talking about the different versions and what their goals are.22:47
mirakarrrghhh: that fixboot and fixmbr for linux22:47
arrrghhhmirak, you were the one looking for it not me lol.  glad you found it, hope ya don't break your windoze install?22:48
arrrghhh! not ? lol22:48
ubottuSorry, I don't know anything about not ? lol22:48
arrrghhhyou wouldn't ubottu22:48
mirakarrrghhh: well it's already broken, it can't be worse I think22:48
arrrghhhmirak, assuming all your data is intact it can get a lot worse.22:48
mirakarrrghhh: I have no valuable data on windows22:49
mirakit's just a gaming OS22:49
arrrghhhditto.22:49
alabamahiti got windows on a different hard drive lol22:49
arrrghhhditto!22:49
arrrghhhi scraped up an old 40gb hdd to put it on haha22:50
alabamahitmirak: if your doing that....Unhook your HD with winblows on it.22:50
alabamahitIf its vista at least22:50
alabamahitit will crash vista boot22:50
reti have a semi-serious issue with gnome-terminal and certain fonts.22:50
arrrghhhret, use fonts that work?22:51
retmy irc client, atleast -- doesn't attempt to show timestamps until i hit an enter key, or certain user input/output.22:51
mirakalabamahit: well since you must specify a linux block device it's ok. If I was running the fixboot of windows I would unplug my linux drive22:51
retor sometimes it doesn't until i grab the screen, et al.22:51
retis this a common problem?22:51
retarrrghhh: erm, why wouldn't all fonts work properly?22:51
mirakalabamahit: I have it on another drive too, that's less shit to deal with22:51
samuelDHCP debug anyone?22:52
alabamahitmirak: just saying cause i have done it...Even on Different hard drives. I installed this install of Linux, and my Vista Crash...22:52
arrrghhhret, beats the heck outta me.  i've never even changed the font lol.22:52
alabamahitmirak: very true all i ahve to do is hit into my boot menu on restart and select the winblows hard drive if i need to run it.22:52
mirakalabamahit: well I installed intrepid, and my windows on the other drive died, I don't know why22:52
arrrghhh!ask | samuel22:53
ubottusamuel: Please don't ask to ask a question, ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely answer. :-)22:53
alabamahitmirak: thats what im saying, lol22:53
PC-Entehuhu22:53
mirakalabamahit: I have at least a chainload in grub to boot directly on windows drive22:53
PC-Enteon witch kernel is the latest ubuntu kernel22:53
PC-Enteis it 2.6.27.2 ?22:53
retmost fonts have similar behavior.22:53
reti think its more of a gnome-term prob.22:53
arrrghhhPC-Ente, 2.6.27-722:53
alabamahitmirak:  i did the same thing...installed Ubuntu on 500 gigHD and had Vista on a 200gigHD and Vista died lol22:53
PC-Entearrrghhh, year but is the sorce of the ubuntu kernel the one from 2.6.27.2 or an older one ?22:54
arrrghhhalabamahit, which did you install first?22:54
arrrghhhPC-Ente, i don't understand the question.  they use 2.6.27-722:54
alabamahitvista was already installed...thats why it did what it did22:54
PC-Enteis 2.6.27-7 based on 26.27.2 i wana know22:54
arrrghhhthe kernel freeze is already past to this should be the final one.22:54
mirakok22:54
miraknow I will reboot22:54
mirakbye22:54
mirakadios !!22:54
alabamahitlater22:55
arrrghhhPC-Ente, well they're all "based" on eachother.  they are improvements.  2.6 forked from 2.4... i dunno what you are asking.22:55
samuelI am struggling with a dhcp server that doesn't seem to give out addresses. I can't be sure where it is failing because after it has started up it doesn't seem to dump _any_ more messages in syslog.22:55
PC-Enteokay there is the offical kernel source from kernel.org22:55
PC-Entehttp://kernel.org/22:55
alabamahitis there a way to get a menu to choose what OS to boot? without me haveing to press F10 on boot to go into Vista?22:55
arrrghhhPC-Ente, yes22:55
PC-Entelatest stable version is 2.6.27.222:55
bsniderit isn't much of a dhcp server then22:55
PC-Entemy ubuntu kernel is 2.6.27-722:55
alabamahitNote: if i dotn press anything it boots straight into Linux22:55
arrrghhhPC-Ente, maybe they're using a git kernal, i dunno.  i think there's an ubuntu-kernel?22:56
PC-Enteis this kernel based on the source fom 2.6.27.2 the lates kernel.org realase or is it an ubunut-own kernel thats maybe just based on 2.6.27 relese22:56
arrrghhhPC-Ente, there's an ubuntu-server channel i know for sure.  i don't know if there's a specific kernel channel or not.22:57
PC-Entedont talking about channels22:57
PC-Entebut doesnt matter i build the 2.6.27.2 kernel fom source and see how it works, because ther sould be some fixes in it that fixes problems on my Laptop22:58
rethas anyone had font problems?22:58
arrrghhhPC-Ente, i think there's a language barrier... i don't know how to answer your question and i'm by no means a kernel expert.22:58
rethmm, the 'fixed' font works.22:59
retactually, rather well, but its just not the font i'd want for a terminal in every terminal.23:00
alabamahitis there a way to get a menu to choose what OS to boot? without me haveing to press F10 on boot to go into Vista?23:01
zyrorlalabamahit yes23:01
zyrorlgrub23:01
alabamahit...how lol23:02
zyrorlif you google it you'll find it23:02
zyrorlhttp://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=3&q=http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/4622&usg=AFQjCNED0LWnt4hB8u9z796Ktc0Oulcfrw23:02
zyrorlat a glance23:02
PC-Enteso one time again23:03
alabamahitzyrorl, thanks :)23:03
PC-EnteIs the ubuntu kernel 2.6.27-7 based on the lates kernel.org release 2.6.27.2 ?23:03
justizinPC-Ente: typically that is implied by that sort of versioning scheme.  -7 should indicate 7, or maybe 8, packagings of the same upstream version.23:07
lfaraone!flash23:10

bsniderDaemonik, https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive23:30
samuelI have an access point here that seems to think it is WPA2 encrypted - but I haven't set it up to be :S ANy ideas?23:32
samuelI used wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap23:33
samuelto make the vap and then set the essid with iwconfig - didn't do any WPA2 stuff...23:33
copproI think NetworkManager is breaking my wireless23:35
copproas soon as I disabled it, I could connect :/23:36
Daemonikbsnider, Thank you23:38
arrrghhhbsnider, so u think u can look @ my old xorg.conf and see why it isn't working?  i can't seem to configure it myself & have it functioning.23:42
bsniderguglhggggg23:43
bsniderok23:43
bsnideri reluctantly agree23:43
arrrghhhlol23:43
bsnideri love being an unpaid nvidia support rep23:43
copproanyone know why networkmanager sucks again?23:43
bsniderit;s a great deal for nvidia23:44
arrrghhhbsnider, well nvidia won't help ha!23:44
bsnideryes but they should. it's their driver23:45
arrrghhhyea... and it sucks.  i wish there was an open-source version of their driver.23:46
arrrghhhmakes me want an ati... i mean amd card.23:46
copprothat isn't much better...23:46
bsniderall the open source graphics drives are even worse23:46
DarthFrogHas anyone else had Firefox not using DNS since doing a dist-upgrade today?  Firefox will load sites by IP address but can't find them by name.  Konqueror works fine. DNS is working.23:46
arrrghhhyea but hopefully it will.  and from what i've heard intrepid deals with ati cards better than nvidia.23:46
arrrghhhDarthFrog, works fine for me.23:47
DarthFrogarrrghhh: Hmm.  Wonder why I'm special? :-)23:48
bsniderwrong. intrepid doesn't deal with ati cards better than nvidia23:48
DarthFrogChatzilla can't do DNS, either.23:48
copproDarthFrog: works fine for me23:48
arrrghhhbsnider, just from what i've heard with peoples & experiences with upgraging to inrepid.23:48
arrrghhhDarthFrog, do you have a custom config for firefox maybe?23:49
arrrghhhDarthFrog, try blasting out your profile.23:49
copprohttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=75835623:49
copproDarthFrog: try that23:49
arrrghhhDarthFrog, yea disable ipv6 and put opendns into your router.  both very good suggestiongs.23:50
arrrghhhder.  suggestions.23:50
DarthFrogarrrghhh: What does blasting out your profile mean?  I've already disabled IPv6 DNS.23:52
copproDarthFrog: remove the profile files23:53
coppro(I would suggest just backing up and seeing if it works first)23:53
copproalso, try safe mode23:53
arrrghhh~/.mozilla/ is where your profile lies.  firefox website has some great instructions related to that.23:54
bsniderarrrghhh, the fglrx driver didn't work at all until canonical obtained a pre-release of catalyst 8.11 last week23:54
arrrghhhbsnider, okie?23:55
copprofglrx is stupid23:55
bsniderthe nvidia driver worked from the start23:55
arrrghhhlike i said i had this setup perfectly in feisty, gutsy and hardy.23:55
bsniderwere you going to show me the xorg.conf file?23:55
bsnideri don't see it23:56
arrrghhhoh!  sure 1 sec23:56
arrrghhhhttp://pastebin.com/db3849fc  thanks bsnider23:57
alabamahitHey, i just looks at my Grub..23:58
alabamahiti have 2 kernels.......23:58
DarthFrogarrrghhh: "blasting" out my profile (i.e. renaming ~/.mozilla) didn't work. :-(23:58
alabamahit2.6.27-7-generic and 2.6.27-4-generic23:58
alabamahitdo i need to remove the old one?23:58
arrrghhhDarthFrog, well that's not exactly how you blast out your profile.  so you have opendns in your router and ipv6 is turned off in about:config?23:59
arrrghhhalabamahit, you can remove the old one from /boot/grub/menu.lst if you wish.23:59
PuppyMy installer is hanging trying to detect my raid drives, any ideas anyone ?23:59
alabamahitarrrghhh: does that remove it from my system?23:59
