didrockslut seb128 :)08:12
=== mvo_ is now known as mvo
mvoseb128: re #287243> it was not only xchat-gnome but also epiphany that would only appear after I restarted the panel - have you heard anything about this?08:53
mvoor seen it before?08:53
seb128mvo: good morning08:53
mvoseb128: good morning :)08:53
seb128mvo: xchat-gnome seems to be the bug I listed, epiphany-browser could be a classic desktop installed before the binary race or similar08:55
* mvo nods08:55
mvook08:55
mvothe old "tryexec" thing?08:55
seb128yes08:55
seb128the desktop is in the arch all binary which is likely unpacked first because of the depends cycle no?08:56
mvoyes, makes sense08:56
seb128we should probably have the menu entries in the same binary package than the software08:57
seb128not sure if that would be enough to avoid those races though08:57
seb128anyway that's not a new issue and not something that we will likely change before intrepid now08:58
seb128mvo: btw do you know why the oosplash you reported some weeks ago has been closed as invalid?08:59
seb128mvo: I got it yesterday again while trying the current iso09:00
seb128lut huats09:00
mvoseb128: hm, no idea. did I close it?09:00
mvoseb128: what is the bugnumber?09:00
seb128mvo: no, calc did09:01
huatshello seb128 and mvo :)09:01
mvoseb128: I think the xchat problem might be "desktop file is unpacked, inotify int the panel picks that up, panel looks for icon->none in the cache yet, postinst is run and icon is added to the cache"09:01
mvohey huats09:01
seb128mvo: not sure now, apport listed similar titles and the recent one was from you and had been closed by calc, he didn't add any comment saying why so I thought you maybe discussed it on irc or something09:01
huatsseb128: once again (I have the feeling to keep saying the same stuff for a few days), if you have some updates to do, just ask :)09:02
mvoseb128: no, haven't talked to him in ages09:02
seb128mvo: do you get the icon after a restart?09:02
mvoseb128: what is the issue exactly?09:02
mvoseb128: yes, panel restart cures it09:02
seb128huats: http://download.gnome.org/sources/epiphany-extensions/2.24/epiphany-extensions-2.24.1.tar.gz09:02
seb128mvo: what issue?09:02
mvoseb128: the oosplash09:02
seb128mvo: ok, because the other bug mentionned that a restart was not enough09:03
huatsseb128: ok doing it09:03
seb128mvo: don't bother, I'll ask calc, just apport starting because oosplash crash09:03
mvoseb128: if its  "desktop file is unpacked, inotify int the panel picks that up, panel looks for icon->none in the cache yet, postinst is run and icon is added to the cache" we could experiment with delayed inotify pickup - e.g. if something was not found try again in 30sec or something09:03
seb128mvo: right, that's what we discussed previous cycle already I think ;-)09:04
mvoyeah, in the tryexec case09:04
mvobut now its useful for the icons as well :)09:04
seb128mvo: I'm pondering adding a trigger which touch /usr/share/applications* after install09:04
* mvo likes recycling old ideas09:05
seb128mvo: that's a workaround but is easy to do and should work correctly09:05
mvohmm, that is a big cannon :)09:05
mvoI mean, changes a lot of timestamps09:06
seb128mvo: so touch whatever .desktop was in the installed binary?09:07
seb128mvo: or touch the directory if that's possible and makes sense09:07
mvoseb128: touch desktop in installed binaries is probably better, we could talk about it at uds09:08

Nghrm, is it just me or is g-s-d segfaulting atm?13:49
kwwiiNg: you are probably just being too picky13:49
Ngsomething is loading /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstlibvisual.so and segfaulting13:49
Ngindeed gstreamer-properties will segfault13:50
Ngkwwii: hey I'm not picky, but giant fonts and a horrible default gtk theme won't do! ;)13:50
kwwiiNg: if you want to complain about the theme properly you need to use anal/fecal metaphors13:53
Nghaha13:53
Nghmm why isn't apport picking these up13:54

Ngaha, but libvisual was updated today14:00
HobbseeNg: oh dear.  sigh.14:20
HobbseeNg: does it happen if you install the old libvisual plugins?14:20
NgHobbsee: lemmie check14:20
NgI was just confirming it with amarok, which also reports a segfault when I activate visualisations14:20
HobbseeNg: if it doesn't, can you file a bug, mark it high, and nominate it for intrepid please?14:21
tedgmpt: I believe that you can change it if you use the menu editor.  User error :)14:23

james_wNg, Hobbsee ^14:24
Ngah doh, yeah that's what I'm seeing14:25
Ngbut I don't think it's g-s-d specific, because other users of libvisual will segfault14:25
james_wyeah, where should the bug move to?14:25
james_w-plugins-base I guess14:26
james_whave you let gdb lose on it yet?14:26
Hobbseelibvisual, if tha'ts what's caused the bug14:26
NgHobbsee: yeah, downgrading to libvisual-0.4-plugins_0.4.0.dfsg.1-2_i386.deb fixes things14:26
Ngjames_w: I tried the gdb hint that gst outputs, to no avail14:27
NgI'm no gdb master. If you are, I'd suggest you try that and I'll wrestle the bug in LP ;)14:28
tedgAh, I think I'm getting that same bug...14:28
james_wI don't see it unfortunately14:28
Nghuh14:28
james_wah, I'm not up to date, I didn't realise it was the last few hours14:29
NgHobbsee: how do I nominate a bug for a release? I've never actually figured that out14:29
Hobbseelool: did you see any of this?14:29
HobbseeNg: there's a option called "nominate for release"14:30
james_w  * Build-dep on x11proto-xf86vidmode-dev explicitely for14:30
james_w    extensions/xf86vmode.h.14:30
james_w  * Build-dep on mesa-common-dev explicitely for GL/glx.h.  Note that14:30
james_w    libglu1-mesa-dev is needed for plugins/actor/actor_lv_gltest.c, but isn't14:30
james_w    checked in configure.ac.14:30
NgHobbsee: I swear there isn't (I'm using edge) :/14:30
NgI can target it to a release, maybe this is my damn rubby ducky14:30
HobbseeNg: not when you report the bug, anyway.14:30
Hobbseeyou have to report it first, then change stuff like that.14:31
james_wNg: if you can target then it means you have super-powahs14:31
Ngjames_w: yeah, I have a rubber ducky, but it's clearly inappropriate for me to target it, so someone else will need to nominate it14:31
Ngat least that would explain why I've never been able to figure out how people are nominating things ;)14:32
james_wNg: I say it's ok in this case as Hobbsee would presumably just approve it straight away14:32

Ngjames_w: any reason to go with 287448 over 287405? I tend to bundle things up to the lowest number14:34
HobbseeNg: ones' clearer than the other?14:34
james_wonly because it already has one duplicate and it's a pain to duplicate it to something else in that case14:34

Hobbseejames_w: not really, but I don't have a problem with reverting it, as it took him 3 revisions in the smae hour to get that far.14:44
james_wah, if you are just going to revert then go ahead14:44
Hobbseeapparently I wasn't thinking when I accepted it the first time (although universe wasn't under a freeze - only by a LP limitation)14:44

pittiI really got used to nautilus tabs14:56
james_wI can't work out how to catch this sigsegv14:57
james_wit seems it's happening in a cloned child14:58
seb128pitti: oh, why so? tabs are nice to preload pages or keep things you want to read later in a webbrowser, but that feels weird for a filemanager where you usually want to interact between directories14:58
Hobbseeseb128: copy&paste?14:58
pittiseb128: well, I don't use it very often, but for copying a bunch of files from here to there it's less clutter on the desktop14:58
seb128Hobbsee: that's what I call interacting14:59
Hobbseeparticularly for remote locations?14:59
pittiseb128: not a killer feature, but it's nice14:59
Hobbseeseb128: sure, but in that case, having different tabs, one for origin, and one for destination, i find very useful14:59
seb128pitti: good that you like it since it's there anyway ;-)14:59
seb128there was a troll at GUADEC and on planet GNOME about tabs everywhere14:59
pittiseb128: yeah, I wasn't complaining about GNOME for a change :-P14:59
james_whttp://paste.ubuntu.com/61004/15:01
seb128Hobbsee: I like better having the 2 view on screen and doing dnd between those than have to context switch15:01
james_wis that a cause of a sigsegv, or fallout from one?15:01
didrocksI agree with seb128, I got used to double clicking with the middle button to open a new nautilus window for such operations (moving bunch of files)...15:06
seb128didrocks: I'm using nautilus spatial15:08
seb128so I just double click ;-)15:09
didrocksseb128: no, I never got used to the spatial mode (and I really hate it in the very first version of ubuntu ;))15:10

seb128james_w: is that the first one you get in the log?15:15
james_wseb128: yeah, I'm going to write a libvisual test app15:32

seb128huats: it still requires a new lirc?15:58
huatsthat is what I am about to look :)15:59
huatsbut right now the new sources are not yet available on the gnome ftp :)15:59
huatsseb128: the gnome-lirc-properties depends on the new lirc... which has just been released (and which is not in intrepid...). So it is not possible to update it16:45

pittimpt: this sentence no verb19:29

pittilool: I'm just trying to debug this19:30
pittilool: I followed up to the bug19:30
loolHobbsee: What's weird is that I compared the *build* logs of libvisual19:30
mptpitti, "prevents" is a fine verb, though probably incorrect in this case -- it's the missing noun that's the problem19:30
pittiwe have a fallback option, but I'd rather fix it properly19:30
loolpitti: I compared the build logs of libvisual before and after changing it19:30

pittilool: do you know a bit about gstreamer?19:32
pittilool: it annoys me that "gdb --args gst-inspect-0.10" doesn't actually intercept the crash19:33

loolno, rebuilding didn't help, but I got the above output; is this what you got too?19:44

seb128;-)20:24
loolseb128: I guess there must have been a huge number of random dups on this  :-/20:25
seb128lool: not so much on desktop packages apparently but let's wait before speaking usually the flood of dups is filled after we fix the bug, time to get the update building and mirrors updated, etc20:27
loolHobbsee: Any particular dupes I can merge for you?20:34
pittilool: re20:37
pittirock!20:37
pittilool: thanks a lot20:37
loolpitti: Hey, can you test and approve libvisual-plugins?20:37
pittilool: test yes, approve no20:38
loolpitti: Well I kind of broke it, to some extent, by rebuilding it  ;-)20:38
pittiwe need to wait until after RC20:38
pittiunless..20:38
pittiit's not on any CD or DVD20:38
loolpitti: uhoh20:38
loolpitti: Well I think it wasn't pulled in until now20:38
* pitti checks DVDs20:38
pittilool: right, that's what I'm noping20:38
pittihoping20:38
pittilool: but we built DVDs after the promotion20:38
loolpitti: What do you think of repromoting the recommends in libvisual to be in sync with Debian again?20:39
pittilool: we are lucky, it's not on the DVD20:39
pittilool: I'm all for that20:39
Laneyember, seb128: Do you mind if I do the gnome-terminal 2.24.1.1 update and add the tab key switching patch back?20:40
loolAny idea of a version number higher than 0.4.0-2.1ubuntu1 which doesn't have ubuntu?20:41
pittilool: 0.4.0-2.1+build120:41
loolThanks20:41
pittilool: I actually have that upload prepared :)20:41
emberLaney: i've updated in my branch20:41
seb128Laney: you can do whatever you want on this one, get mvo to look at your change when you need sponsoring20:41
pittilool: anyway, why didn't you do that as a patch?20:41
Laney(alternatively, since the only change between 2.24.1 and .1.1 was to remove the said patch, how about a patch to 2.24.1 to add in the missing bit?)20:41
pittilool: it's currently applied inline20:41
emberLaney: that patch introduces a bug20:41
loolpitti: Oh ups, didn't check for a patch system; I recall there's one now20:42
Laneyember: There was just a commit which wasn't included in the stable branch, afaik?20:42
loolpitti: Sorry about that; will publish an ubuntu5 ASAP20:42
pittilool: I'll cross-check/test the patch here in the meantime20:42
loolOk, thanks20:42
* mvo heard his name20:42
pittilool: don't bump the version number again, please; just upload, I'll reject the previous one20:42
loolpitti: Ok20:42
pittimvo: buh!20:42
mvoLaney: oh, I thought it was ok that it get dropped because of the upstream changes there. sorry for that20:43
mvoLaney: I will be happy to sponsor it20:43
mvopitti: *meh*20:43
Laneymvo: No worries, we were just following upstream ;)20:43
* lool pushed libvisual; now pack to plugins20:44
emberthe patch is incomplete due string freeze20:44
Laneymvo: Do you think skipping 2.24.1.1 is OK?20:44
Laneyember: Right, but we can pull the diff from trunk, no?20:44
emberor skip 2.24.1.120:45
Laneyember: We still need a patch20:45
mvoLaney: I think by shipping 2.24.1 with all the changes we crossed the line, now we shouldn't stop20:45
LaneyThe options are no longer in the keybinding editor, at least for me either20:45
Laney-either20:45
pittilool: I don't even see nastyfft in gst-inspect...20:45
mvocould we revert to 2.24.0?20:45
loolpitti: It's a libvisual-plugin; you'll probably only see a visual gst element20:46
ember2.24.1 fixes other issues20:46
emberi think we should follow upstream20:46
loolpitti: Perhaps it's something like visualsink actor=nastyfft20:46
pittilool: gst-inspect-0.10 libvisual has others, like oinksie or corona20:46
LaneyI'll see what patch is needed20:47
loolpitti: Ok; no idea then20:47
emberLaney: the correct patch is what got removed on 2.24.1.120:47
emberthe complete -trunk is more complete but have a lot of new string20:47
ember*strings20:47
Laneyember: But with 2.24.1 I don't see the bindings in the editor.20:48
loolpitti: Pushing the new ubuntu420:48
emberand you have it on 2.24.0 ?20:49
* pitti hugs lool, you rock20:49
Laneyember: Yes. Do you see the new options?20:49
* lool hugs pitti for being so supportiv20:49
loole20:49
pittiseb128: that unbreaks g-s-d and pidgin20:49
LaneyI believe it was just a patch from trunk that got missed from the .120:49
pittilool: I'll get it past Steve :)20:49
emberLaney: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55689320:49
ubottuGnome bug 556893 in general "Crash when closing a tab" [Critical,Resolved: fixed]20:50
seb128pitti: and you going to block it until after the candidate?20:50
loolpitti: So DVD affected?20:50
Laneyember: Can we get the fix for this too then?20:51
LaneyOr do you think we should just follow upstream?20:51
pittilool: no, not on DVD; that's our luck20:51
pittiseb128: no, accepting now20:51
seb128pitti: thanks ;-)20:51
emberimo i think we should follow upstream, but it just an opinion20:52
loolpitti: excellent20:53
LaneyRight. Well I'll work up a debdiff and you can decide whether to include it - otherwise I'll stick it in my PPA20:53
pittiuh, where's seb128?20:53
pittilool: anyway, we need to hold back packages which are on the CDs to avoid archive/CD skew; the rest can go20:53
emberLaney: please for gnome-terminal use bzr to make mvo life easier20:54
Laneyember: OK, where's the branch20:54
Laney?20:54
loolpitti: I've pushed to my ppa anyway20:54
loolPeople can get it from there20:54
Laney(It's hard to know where packages are maintained, should I have looked somewhere to find this out?)20:54
loolWell it's not the version with the patch but anyway20:54
pittilool: it'll be on archive.u.c. in an hour, too20:54
emberLaney: ~ubuntu-core-devs one20:55
Laneyty20:55
loolpitti: I'm about to head off for bed -- unless I need to wait for some confirmation or can help finish closing this case?20:57
pittilool: that's fine; it's completely done nwo20:57
loolGood20:57
* lool waves good night20:57
embergood night20:58
pittilool: sleep well20:59
embermvo: do you have an opinion on this?20:59
mvoember: sorry, I disconnected20:59
emberabout gt21:00
mvoember: right, I missed some discussion points I think21:00
emberhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/61178/21:01
mvoember, Laney: sorry that I was not following it as closely as I should - what exactly is the problem that 24.1.1 solves and is this a regression from 2.24.0 ?21:04
ember2.24.1.1 is a regression of 2.24.1, remember the <locale> thing?21:06
mvoyes21:06
Laneymvo: Yes. The option to configure the keybindings for switching to specific tabs (1-9) were dropped in 2.24.0, and added back in 2.24.1. Unfortunately, a commit was missed in the version and it appears to have introduced another crasher which is now fixed, so 2.24.1.1 was released which backed it out.21:06
LaneyI'm doing a patch to add the missed commit and the crash fix21:06
mvoright21:06
LaneySo the options are: a) accept my patch and have the functionality, and b) hedge our bets and go with upstream's 2.24.1.121:07
mvothanks for explaining that! I would like to see the diff for (a) to make a call21:09
embermvo: could you merge 2.24.1.1 from my branch to Laney work on it21:09
mvowill do21:10
mvoember: a small issue with the merge is the version number (2.24.1-0ubuntu1~ppa1) - I correct that21:12
emberheh ok, thanks21:13
mvocommited21:13
mvonp :)21:13
huatsseb128: lut21:26
huatsanything particular I can do to help ?21:26
seb128huats: 'soir21:26
seb128huats: you can do the http://download.gnome.org/sources/libwnck/2.24/libwnck-2.24.1.tar.gz update21:26
huatsseb128: on my way21:27
james_wnice work lool, what was it in the end?21:27
pittijames_w: changing a const structure21:29
james_wah, good spot, I doubt I would ever have caught that21:29
james_wsorry for not giving you all the information before I left, but I had to dash out21:30
pittijames_w: no problem at all, thanks for pointing to nastyfft21:30
pittijames_w: I wonder how you manage to help with just about every bug we receive :)21:30
james_wpitti: I used to test program to work around gstreamer not wanting to give the stacktrace21:30
pittijames_w: in the end I used "gdb --args gst-inspect-0.10  --gst-disable-segtrap --gst-disable-registry-fork"21:31
james_wheh, just work on the most visible ones, and it looks like you do more than you actually do :-)21:31
james_wah, I hadn't found --gst-disable-registry-fork21:31
huatsseb128: I'd like to test the libwnck update... any idea what can I do to do that ?21:45
seb128huats: libwnck is what is used in the tasks list and the workspace switcher applets21:45
huatsok21:45
seb128huats: so switch workspaces, try changing the number, open some applications and verify they are listed21:45
huatsI'll do that right now :)21:46
seb128huats: restart your session to get the new version used before21:46
huatsyep21:46
seb128mvo: do you look at compiz bug? there is one that is collecting lot of duplicates21:48
mvoseb128: which one21:49
mvoseb128: I'm behind with triage (badly on compiz, really badly :(21:49
mvoquite good with update-manager though21:49
seb128mvo: #27790621:49
mvobug 27790621:50
ubottuLaunchpad bug 277906 in compiz "crashed when double-clicking update manager icon" [Medium,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/27790621:50
seb128mvo: 78 duplicates21:50
mvowoah21:50
mvoand that makes *compiz* crash21:50
* mvo scratches his head21:50
seb128mvo: the title is likely wrong21:51
mvoand of course it does not crash when I try that21:51
seb128mvo: looking quickly through duplicate it's likely a crash on session closing21:52
seb128mvo: they just get the notification on next login21:52
mvoyeah, I think so too21:54
mvoits most likely this other one that already has >180 dupes21:54
seb128mvo: the bug itself is not so annoying, that's just flooding launchpad and the retracers21:55
mvoright. I looked at the code and there is no way (in the code) that w can be 0x1 or 0x100021:56
mvoit must be some sort of corruption21:56
seb128race on shutdown?21:57
mvoupstream looked too and is the same opinion - I'm not arguing that there is a bug, its just difficult to find and has (apparently) no user visibile conceqences21:57
mvoyeah, I suspect that21:57
mvoI suspect it happens when the plugins gets unloaded or something21:57
mvos/that there is a bug,/that there is no bug,/21:58
seb128right21:58
seb128that's something we would no notice if apport was not running21:58
seb128mvo: anyway I was just pointing it because I noticed it was giving lot of activity to the retracers, that's not a priority for intrepid21:59
LaneyErm, I'm getting the message "You must have at least one <locale> entry in a <schema>" when installing my updated g-t-data package, but AFAICS all schemas do have a locale. What gives?22:00
Laney(the file is huge, does anyone have a way of searching which ones it thinks are bad?)22:00
huatsseb128: here is bug 28777822:03
ubottuLaunchpad bug 287778 in libwnck "Please sponsor libwnck 2.24.1 into intrepid" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/28777822:03
mvoseb128: right, thanks for telling me about it!22:03
seb128huats: thanks, that's all for tonight22:03
huatsseb128: ok :)22:03
huatsso the follow up will be tomorrow :)22:04
huatshave a good night everyone !22:04
seb128'night huats22:04
LaneyCan someone glance over http://orangesquash.org.uk/~laney/gnome-terminal.schemas and see why apparently the switch_to_tab entries don't contain a locale subkey (confirmed with a small script at http://orangesquash.org.uk/~laney/nolocale.py) :(22:34
LaneyIt certainly looks like they do to me...22:34
Laneybah, I don't get it22:42
Laney...oh, there are duplicates at the end22:42
* Laney runs22:42
LaserJockanybody know anything about gnome-session?23:17
LaserJockI'm trying to get gnome-session-save --logout-dialog to work without gnome-session but I just get: Failed to call logout: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files23:19
emberLaney: you can use the patch i've added on 2.24.123:35
Laneyember: I already proposed it for merging. Did I miss something?23:36
emberLaney: well you missed the changelog, 2.24.1.1-0ubuntu1 so you can work on that23:38
LaneyI considered them two separate versions23:38
emberyou can use the existing one23:39
emberand the <locale> patch was already on http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ember/gnome-terminal/ubuntu/annotate/13?file_id=06_add_locale_to_sch-20081021142706-ok5ff551hicoxnoe-123:41
LaneyYeah, I used upstream's patch for that23:42
emberyou shouldn't23:43
emberit introduces new strings23:43
LaneyThe translations are in the generated schema23:44
emberare you sure?23:51
emberwhere?23:51
Laney/usr/share/gconf/schemas/gnome-terminal.schema23:52
Laneyalso check the pofiles23:52

ubottuGnome bug 548600 in Keybindings "Can no longer configure keyboard shortcuts for switching tabs" [Enhancement,Resolved: fixed]23:55
emberand due to the missing <locale>23:56
LaneyI don't see a problem23:59
Laneybut I've got to go to bed now23:59
