persiaGood day.  I hear that bug #262564 might need some help for adding the madwifi license.  Is that already fixed in git?14:39
persiaabogani, put together a patch for lrm-rt which seems to have the right content, and I wanted to make sure it got applied if needed (it doesn't appear in the current package in intrepid).14:42

* lamont wonders if anyone has vmware running on intrepid, so as to save himself a test15:01
BenCpersia: yeah15:10
persiaBenC, Great to hear.  Thanks for the confirmation.15:12
BenCpersia: I mean we need help with it, not that it's fixed :)15:13
persiaHow about linux-firmware : does that still need help?15:13
persiaOh.  Grab debian/copyright from linux-restricted-modules-2.6.27-3.7-rt : abogani added the madwifi stuff, and pitti accepted the result.15:13
aboganipersia: Just mailed as you requested.15:14
aboganiBenC: ^15:14
persiaStill a little weak for ltmodem, but not much we can do about that given upstream.  AnAnt is finalising a DKMS package for it, but that won't make intrepid (should help for Jaunty though)15:14
BenCpersia: cool, thanks15:16

lamonthow about booting a current-hardy+updates machine with an intrepid kernel?  (or what other packages do I need, and can I boot a hardy kernel with an intrepid user-space?15:18
* lamont points at http://paste.ubuntu.com/62042/ and thinks that the absence of asm/semaphore.h in intrepid's kernel headers may be an indication of pain...16:01
lamontso.... can I run a hardy kernel with intrepid, I wonder?16:02
amitklamont: I've done it a few times w/o anything exploding...16:02
lamontamitk: coolness16:02
persiabluetooth will probably break16:02
lamontpersia: that would somewhat suck16:04
persialamont, Different kernel drivers, different userspace in hardy/intrepid.  Might work, but I've low confidence.16:04
amitklamont: you want to run it 'long-term'?16:04
lamontno, I want vmware to work16:05
* amitk knows nothing about vmware.16:05
lamontthe pasteblob above has the pertinent install failure16:06
lamontand history would tend to indicate that they should have a working vmware sometime in late november16:07
amitklamont: is vmware known to work with 2.6.27?16:08
lamontno16:08
lamont"not known to not work"16:09
jdonglol16:09
lamontwell, 6.0.5 (current available vmware workstation) is known to not install with the latest intrepid livecd16:09
pgranerpersia: did BenC get with you on the copyright stuff yet?16:11
jdongcuriousity: why don't we enable CONFIG_PCIEASPM?16:12
persiapgraner, My understanding is that abogani mailed BenC the diff for the madwifi license about an hour ago.  I've a local copy if required.16:12
jdongI'm guessing there's a hanging issue for certain mobos?16:12
pgranerpersia: ok, just trying to follow up been a crazy AM.16:13
persiaUnderstood :)16:13
persiapgraner, Do you know the schedule for the final kernel upload I've heard rumours about?  I'll want to schedule an -rt rebuild immediately thereafter, and abogani might need to tweak the patch if something breaks.16:14
pgranerpersia: get with BenC16:15
persiaBenC, No rush : I'll be idling here until release, but please give abogani & I a poke when you have a firm schedule.16:16
lamontjdong: as summarized by cousin rick in http://unix.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/comp.sys.hp.hpux/2005-11/0149.html16:20
jdonglamont: ah, thanks :)16:21
lamontjdong: I've found the distinctions to be very useful16:21
jdonglamont: I agree16:24
* jdong wonders which "mount -t ext4 -o extents LABEL=/ /" on his primary system would fall under... :)16:24

ubugHi all, I tested ibex on a fujitsu siemens amilo m7440 and i noticed that kernel complained about rf kill switch is on. After some research on the net I found this piece of software - http://sourceforge.net/projects/fsam7440/ - It has a status of beta, but it works very well for me. The unfortunate thing is that it seems to be unmaintained. Is there a way to push it to the repositories?.18:44
