[08:22] good morning! [08:41] good moorning! [09:26] hey guys, does somebody knows hot to change tabs background here http://img296.imageshack.us/my.php?image=terminalik3.png without modifying background of all GtkContainer ? [13:37] _MMA_: welcome, sir! [13:37] <_MMA_> Yo [13:38] * _MMA_ will be around for a good part of the day today. (Is his last weekend in Mexico) [13:38] _MMA_: i wonder, have you had a listen to severed fifth? [13:38] <_MMA_> thorwil: I am a friend of Jonos. :) So yes. [13:40] hope he will release track-wise, so i can have a play, remix [13:41] _MMA_: is it my ears not used to the style or are the guitars a bit raspy? [13:42] <_MMA_> They are. It's his tuning I believe. Not as low as you hear now-a-days I believe. [20:27] Hello. =) [20:32] Seems to be quite dead in here. [20:32] brains! [20:33] D: ew. [20:36] : D thought i would throw a few things into the hat here. [20:36] things? hat? [20:36] who's hat? [20:37] Niel Patrick Harris's hat. [20:37] at least no throwing hats like odd-job [20:37] I only wear hats when it is cold or raining [20:38] anyways, are you all familiar with a program known as apophysis? [20:38] nope [20:39] it cranks out some pretty good looking wallpapers from fractals. [20:40] cool, you should make some and put them on the wiki with your suggestions [20:40] fractals are scary. you never know what's hiding in them a few iterations in! [20:41] http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/vashthstampede98/Apophysis-080905-460.jpg [20:41] www.apophysis.org [20:41] i think... >.> [20:42] bah, Freeware editor for Windows [20:43] ouch, nasty stuff that "freeware" [20:44] Yeah. I know. Buuuuut it works. [20:44] <_MMA_> There's a 100 ways to do them in linux as well. I even think there are GIMP plugins. [20:45] That and it supports 3 cores =_= [20:46] <_MMA_> http://s10.invisionfree.com/Raptor_Designs/index.php?showtopic=31 [20:46] I see ^^ [20:47] I must admit that all the stuff I have seen on linux makes pics that look mainly like lots of lines, nothing really nice [20:47] http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/vashthstampede98/Apophysis-080912-34.jpg [20:47] these take around 2 minutes to render across a phenom X3 [20:48] not exciting at all. unlike http://flowtv.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/fractal.jpg [20:48] That looks as if it were photoshopped :P [20:48] the point of the artwork should not just be to find a pretty pic to use...there should also be a whole structure behind why we use it and what we want, etc. [20:48] god, I sound like troy [20:49] or me [20:49] Haha. [20:49] <_MMA_> kwwii: Ha!! :P [20:49] My point in art design is to evoke emotion. [20:51] atwkevin: and what would that emotion be for ubuntu? [20:51] i have a lot of almost-finished stuff in Deep Paint. [20:52] And if I were to select an emotion for it, I would select tranquility, yet deep down inside there is a sense of rigidity and prowess. [20:52] atwkevin: do you have anything up, online? [20:53] Yeah. lots of almost-there type things. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/vashthstampede98/middleorb.jpg [20:53] any good design should evoke emotion...knowing which emotions you want to evoke is something else [20:53] http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/vashthstampede98/gem1.jpg [20:54] <_MMA_> ***kwwii is now known as troy_s [20:54] I think this is my fave, cause it's simple yet dramatic. Hooray colored crystal. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m29/vashthstampede98/DSCN0782-1.jpg [20:55] Deep Paint must be something than what i thought or I don't see the point in using it here [20:56] +else [20:57] i dont understand what you are trying to say ^^; [20:57] atwkevin: i'd say the change in contrast is dramatic. but the composition is boring to non-existant and i'm pretty sure i'mnot the only one wondering what the heck that is about or tries to be [20:58] <_MMA_> +1 [20:58] atwkevin: i though Deep paint was for drawing textures right on 3d models. i don't see 3d here [20:58] not the old Deep Paint. [20:58] I'd simply say that those works do not evoke any emotion in my other than loneliness and seclusion, perhaps a general feel of "spooky" [20:58] and anyway, they have way too much contrast for a wallpaper [20:59] Okay. [21:00] well i guess art is in the eye of the beholder. [21:01] definitely [21:01] artnay: you are not on the wrong way if you want tranquility [21:01] what I just said is my *opinion* not a fact in any way [21:01] * thorwil removes troyness from kwwii [21:02] artnay: though i think ubuntu has to be warm and welcoming, a sense of a lively community and all that [21:03] decidedly not mysterious, except maybe for a little tribal touch [21:08] *yawns* [21:09] spot on! good night! :) [21:09] <_MMA_> Night sir [21:12] heh. [21:18] ack. mount is being annoying again :\ [21:43] Here's a concept: create a set of panoramic images for Intrepid+1 that can act as desktop backgrounds, then set a different subselection of the panorama for each virtual desktop. Then, while switching from one desktop to another, you see the panorama scroll one way or another. [21:45] That could really wow people. [21:51] <_MMA_> Would be best for KDE as you cant do it with GNOME. (not without a patched Nautilus that relies on Compiz anyway) [21:53] RyanPrior, not as impressive as a cube [21:54] BHSPitLappy: If you did it as a cylinder instead of a cube, it would be just as impressive. (And I think the cylinder looks sweet!) [21:54] _MMA_: Since we have some development time before Jaunty, we could certainly work with Nautilus to make it happen. [21:55] <_MMA_> RyanPrior: As the patch is not currently upstream, there's about a snowballs chance. [21:55] let's do a Dodecahedral desktop [21:55] "It's Dodecawesome!" [21:56] _MMA_: you're saying that no development work done now will get into Jaunty? That's ridiculous. [21:57] <_MMA_> I'm saying that since the current patch is outside GNOME and relies on yet another project outside GNOME, I wouldn't hold my breath. [21:57] it's more complicated when you're asking GNOME to add a whimsical feature for giggles [21:57] I'm not planning on holding my breath. I asked about it in here hoping to find somebody who would help me take action. [21:58] <_MMA_> RyanPrior: We're art-nerds. We do nothing about the underlying tech. [21:58] BHSPitLappy: pretty is a feature, and Ubuntu/Gnome need things to fuel excitement about their software in a way that "Nautilus now has tabs" doesn't. [21:58] <_MMA_> haha. [21:58] * _MMA_ loves the new tabs. ;) [21:58] _MMA_: I'm a tech nerd and know nothing about creating panoramic images. I figured I might find that bit in an art hangout. [21:59] The new tabs are great, and we constantly need to have improvements like that, but stuff like this is as importnat. [21:59] <_MMA_> RyanPrior: Get the tech squared away and upstream and we'll be happy to help you prettify things. [22:00] yeah [22:00] well, tabs has not been the feature I've been wanting nautilus to have for years [22:00] more like PANES! [22:01] * _MMA_ has wanted to win a 100 million $ lottery for 20 years now. [22:11] my life needs tabs [22:12] kwwii: :) [22:12] <_MMA_> Yeah. The instant they showed up I used 'em. That and the compact list view that every other browser has had for years. [22:17] with my new computer, I finally started using evolution...it is way behind kmail in functionality [22:17] think I will try thunderbird [22:18] evolution feels like a windows mail client from 10 years ago [22:18] <_MMA_> kwwii: I tried to switch to Epiphany/Evolution. Didn't have the features I wanted. I went back to Thunderbird/FF. [22:20] I mean, evo doesn't even have a "next unread" function [22:20] everybody praises it like it is the next big thing [22:21] makes me so angry I need to listen to the new severed fifth [22:21] lol [22:21] <_MMA_> \m/ [22:21] with tabs in nautilus, can you drag a file onto a tab? [22:22] <_MMA_> Yes [22:22] okay, then they're halfway there :P [22:22] but seriously, paned filebrowsers win [22:23] how is it that my ati card worked great with compiz in hardy and now no longer finds a driver? [22:24] <_MMA_> kwwii: There was some mention of that on other lists. Hit up Ted I guess. Or Bryce. [22:24] oh, they'll just tell me it doesn't work [22:25] as a normal user it means blah, blah blah [22:25] <_MMA_> :P [22:25] <_MMA_> Thats why I buy Intel/nVidia. *Never* had an issue. [22:26] my thinkpad has intel, it works great [22:26] but apparently most nVidia cards have problems with compiz in intrepid as well [22:26] I get the bugs on the human theme all day long [22:26] some intel cards as well [22:27] <_MMA_> My 7950GT works as expected. [22:27] I guess nobody reports bugs on that for ati because compiz doesn't work to begin with :p [22:27] <_MMA_> Well, as of a month ago anyway. [22:28] hehe, don't update! [22:28] I guess this will become my first ever windows computer [22:28] <_MMA_> oh noes! [22:28] replacing my powerbook g4 [22:28] that has become my mac dvd player [22:29] a little more than 10 years working with linux and the problems are still the same [22:29] sad, really [22:29] <_MMA_> :( [22:29] * _MMA_ heads off to a BBQ. Big steaks and thick cut salmon. Mmmm.. [22:30] <_MMA_> bbl [22:30] enjoy [22:30] mesquite, yes! [22:31] btw, did dst end in america already? [22:31] <_MMA_> dst? [22:32] * _MMA_ saw the message as he walked out the door. [22:32] <_MMA_> digital TV? [22:32] <_MMA_> Over the air tv? [22:32] day light savings time [22:33] <_MMA_> ha [22:33] daylight savings time [22:33] * _MMA_ doesnt know. [22:33] :-) [22:33] * _MMA_ out. [22:38] lucazade1 ! nice to see you again! [22:38] I think I will greet everyone in the channel like that from now on [22:38] kwwii: No, November 2 [22:39] just to piss everyone off [22:39] Flannel: killer, thanks! [22:39] in europe is ended yesterday [22:39] s/is/it
