jmichaelxetfb: yes, kde4 is what will come with intrepid. kde3.5 will no longer be in the repos.02:38

etfbjmichaelx: Debian?02:39

etfbjmichaelx: Given that Hardy is LTS, why bother upgrading at all?02:40
jmichaelxstaying with hardy would be an option, but i think i am ready to move on02:40
etfbGuest61077: Firefox is a GTK app.  Why worry about installing the underpinnings?  You don't want to limit yourself just to KDE apps if you can help it.02:41
jmichaelxi have wondered whether or not i would need to re-install my virtualbox OS's if i switched to debian02:41
jmichaelxi assume so02:42
etfbjmichaelx: I upgrade every six months, about two months after the release.  Maybe KDE4 will be usable by December, but if not I'm happy where I am.  It's not like anything will go mouldy.02:42
Guest61077<etfb>  thants seems a pretty big downfall for kde02:42
etfbGuest61077: I wouldn't want to rule out KDE apps if I were using Gnome either.  How small is your hard disk that you're worried about a couple of hundred megabytes at most of extra libs?02:42
jmichaelxetfb: kde4 will not have the stability or the functionality of kde3 for a few years02:43
Guest61077<etfb> it break my machine02:43

Guest61077<etfb> ive had to reformat 3 times because i tried that02:43
etfbGuest61077: Suspicious.  I'd be looking for another explanation.02:44
jmichaelxetfb: yeah, apps like amarok will still be there. its development is not tied directly to the development of the larger KDE project, hence the different version numbering system (at least so i understand it)02:44
jmichaelxbut, amarok2 will likely be out sometime during intrepid's lifespan02:45

dennisterzachin2036: no boos from me, welcome to the better way :)04:24
zachin2036and I got a nasty virus and the easiest thing I can think of is to boot a linux distro off of a CD or flash drive and backup all of my old files through linux - as to not awaken the nasty Windows virus04:25
memeemeeewelcome indeed zachin203604:25
zachin2036first off - does that sound like a good idea?  haha04:25
dennisterzachin2036: yes it is, but those files may be infected too, so when you reinstall them, you'll reinstall the virus04:26
zachin2036I figure that the best way to not run my registry and have the virus continue replicating is to treat that hard drive as a data drive, not a boot drive04:26
dennisterdo you intend to reinstall xp again?04:27
zachin2036well, I'm really just going to pull off DOCs, MP3s, movie files and stuff like that - my virus infects EXEs and SCRs - those I'm going to baptize in the repartitioning flame04:27

zachin2036haha, if I tell you I intend to reinstall XP, do I lose my linux support from you guys? ;)04:28

dennisterotherwise, you'll end up bringing viruses to your work, through those work files04:30

dennisterzachin2036: excellent idea! so backup the user files into a small partition, using gparted to create the partition, install the dual boot, play around with it and learn after you take one more stab at getting rid of the virus, then reinstall winblows04:36
jwaldoBah, according to their chart my printer isn't supported04:37

zachin2036dennister - well, I was posting to bleepingcomputer.com and one of the dudes there said I could go through a 30-point inspection and post HijackThis logs and blah blah blah....I thought it might be easier, ironically, to just find a way to burn my 200gb of info to DVDs and then just wipe the drive, drop the partition and start anew04:40
jwaldohttp://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Dell-all_in_one_920_printer I'm really starting to hate Dell04:41
dennisterzachin2036: that's a very good idea...you want some sort of non-hdd backup for all those dvd's anyway04:41
zachin2036yeah04:42
zachin2036is there a flash drive distro of kubuntu that comes with a cd/dvd burning program that I don't need to like...hardcode my burner into?04:42
dennisteri did that once on this machine...all of my files onto dvds so if something ever happened to the drive...04:42
dennisterzachin2036: what are u using now? a livecd will work fine, it has k3b for burning already04:43
compilerwriteranybody willing to help me compile a java source to try something out or at least point me to a good howto?04:44
dennisterkubuntu itself is a bit too big for a flash drive, as kde is a pig by liniux standards04:44
zachin2036will I be able to run a liveCD and burn DVDs at the same time?  I mean, will I need to access the liveCD drive as I'm burning a DVD in that same physical drive?  Or will the LiveCD be installed to memory and allow me to free my drive up?04:46
=== word|away is now known as word
zachin2036ugh, the guys in the windows room are almost as bad as you guys ;)04:49
zachin2036haha04:49
=== Kernel is now known as Wicked
dennisteroh, so you only have one drive? didn'tknow that04:50
zachin2036yeah - one HDD, one DVD-ROM04:50
zachin2036that changes the game a little, huh :|04:50
dennisterok, how much free space do you have on the hdd? out of how many gigs?04:50
zachin2036I've got about 100gb free out of 300gb04:51
zachin2036I just don't want to boot to Windows, even Safe Mode, if possible04:52
dennisterok, more than enough to install kubuntu to get the dual boot, then you can use k3b to burn dvd's from your ntfs windows drive04:52
zachin2036cool - so basically, I run a LiveCD or something that will repartition some of the empty space to make a partition for the dual boot?04:52
zachin2036can you tell I'm so burnt out on this?  I'm like 4 days deep in possible pain-in-the-butt solutions :)04:53
dennisterwhat do you know of partitions and mounting? do you just have a C drive, not an E, F, G, and so on?04:53
dennisterand yes, in answer to your question, installing kubuntu from the livecd will automatically entail rearranging the hard drive to create the 3 partitions you need for kubuntu04:54
zachin2036I know about making partitions....well, on the Windows XP Install CD at least - I used to whiz through DOS in the old days, but it's been more than 10 years.  Since then, I've been a one-partition kind of guy04:54
zachin2036but - Fry's has a 1TB drive for $140 right now...might be time for me to get back into the partitioning mood04:55
jwaldoI suck at partitions04:55
dennisterok, i thought I knew partitions, too, as I was used to partition magic and had a dual boot between xp 64-bit ed and xp media center edition04:55
jwaldoI couldn't even get the XP CD to make partitions04:55
dennisterlol @ jwaldo04:55
memeemeee!usb | zachin203604:55
ubottuzachin2036: For information about installing Ubuntu from USB flash drives, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick - For a persistent live USB install, see: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent04:55
zachin2036haha, yeah, I haven't done partitions in years - I think the only ones I've made have been the single primary partitions when I install on a fresh computer04:56
dennisterzachin2036: hmmm...i guess i was wrong04:56
jwaldotook me half a dozen tries to partition my external drive04:56
memeemeeejust an alternative option04:56
richgar1982Hello everybody04:56
zachin2036thanks memeemeee04:56
zachin2036hi rich04:56
memeemeeenp04:56
dennisterzachin2036: important question: what is a "mount point"?04:57
richgar1982does anybody knows how can I get Phonon running in my kubuntu hardy ??04:57
jwaldoI installed ubuntu through Wubi, since I'm not even sure my XP CD *is* a full-blown copy of XP04:57
richgar1982I need to make a program using that framewaork04:57
zachin2036dennister - do I get to wikipedia or do I have to shoot from the hip on the answer? :)04:58
dennisterok...gotcha :) "C' is a windows mount point, just as 'D; is probably the mount point for your burner04:58
zachin2036yeah, that's what I meant04:59
zachin2036hah04:59
zachin2036so in windows, I have my main drive, C: - the entire physical HDD....then my DVD burner is D:....and I have a daemon tools mounted E: I think05:00
dennisterwith linux you'll need 3 partitions: but instead of letters, there's the '/' for root (just the slash) '/home' for your user files, and a small swap space that's like the windows virtual memory (spare space on your drive that acts like ram)05:00
zachin2036I mounted an image at some point and it was a pain in the ass05:00
memeemeeedennister, do you think it's best to locate /home on a separate partition?05:01
zachin2036oh no, I can't take it if YOU guys disagree on what I should do :) hahaha05:03
dennisterwhen you install kubuntu, the most difficult part of the process for newbs is understanding the partitioner, so choose the manual install option, choose 10G for /, with bootable flag on, say 1.5x your ram for the swap space partition, maybe 10G for /home/, and the rest for your movies, in a partition called /media/movies, using the ntfs file system05:03
dennistermemeemeee: yes, most defintiely, put /home on its own partition05:03
zachin2036what should I do as my "oh sh*t" situation?  I mean, if I know I'm going to install right now, then wipe the entire drive after I back things up and start over, should I set things up differently?05:04
dennisteryou could also use ext3 for /media/movies, and ext3 is defintely required/expected for / and /home partitions05:04
memeemeeehmmm. how large should the / partition be?05:04
richgar1982does anybody knows about phonon ??????05:04
richgar1982????05:05
memeemeeeno idea richgar198205:05
dennisterzachin2036: not necessarily...you have 100 G free space, so out of the 100, 10G is for /, <1 forswap, 10G for /home, and say 50G for /media/movies05:05
_2dennister ext# is neither required nor expected for the rootfs.   it is the default though.05:05
logan_hello everyone, I have a problem with some libraries if someone would be willing to help me out05:06
dennister_2: yes, I realize that, but for a newb it's best to stick with the defaults05:06
_2heh.    ok.  jsut don't confuse them farther by saying that / has to be ext3  ;/05:06
memeemeeeso dennister, if I'm partitioning with a separate /home folder how big should my / be?05:07
zachin2036hah, I'm more than a newb05:07
dennisterzachin2036: when  you wipe your hard drive of winblows, you won't have to wipe the linux partitions...just the smaller-than-present windows partition05:07
richgar1982is anybody here who can help me ?????05:08
richgar1982Or i'm just alone on this enterire wordl of bad frameworks05:08
richgar1982????05:08
dennistermemeemeee: it can be as big as you want, really, on some of my installations I've made them over 100G, on really small hard drives it can be 1-5 G05:08
logan_well i just installed google earth for my 64-bit linux by following this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GoogleEarth tutorial. When I did it, the tutorial said that I should install the lib32nss-mdns library to make it work better with my 64-bit system. I noticed that 22 things were uninstalled when the 32-bit drivers were installed; will this library have hurt my 64-bit installation?05:09
_2richgar1982 sorry,  what issue ?05:09
zachin2036well hell, maybe I'll pick up that 1TB drive for $139.99 and then I can have a physical Winblows drive and a physical Linsux drive ;)05:09
kubuntu_hi!  wondering how you can download to Desktop and see it on your Desktop immediately05:10
dennistermemeemeee: as for root partition, it can be as small as 5-7G for comfort, but I run a lot of big server programs, so I feel more comfortable with 10 because I've had to make root bigger to accommodate more progs05:10
kubuntu_seems I have to navigate with filemanager to find a file i downloaded to Desktop05:10
dennisterzachin2036: that's an excellent idea, that's what i did when i first tried linux05:10
_2memeemeee for a minimalest you can get by on 2g /   but not a novice.05:10
logan_could anyone help me with my problem?05:11
dennister_2 is right on everything he's said so far, but when I'm talking to newbs I try to keep things simple, and not confuse the issue with too many options :)05:12
_2logan_ the question beggs too many other questions.  sorry.05:12
richgar1982my issue is05:12
richgar1982that05:12
memeemeeeso 10G would be plenty big enough dennister? I have 1x750G and 1x320H so space is not an issue. I just don't want to allocate more space than necessary.05:12
richgar1982I can't compile05:12
richgar1982absolutly anything05:12
_2dennister yeah yeah   i get the point.    you think the guy can't deal with my added data input.  i'll leave it alone.05:13
richgar1982using phonon framework05:13
richgar1982even the tutorrials and axemples05:13
memeemeeesorry that's 320G not H ;)05:13
richgar1982doesn't work fine05:13
richgar1982:S05:13
_2richgar1982 install  build-essential05:13
richgar1982I have already build essential05:13
logan__2, let me rephrase the question; did installing that library remove files vital to the 64-bit Ububtu OS?05:13
_2richgar1982 and don't use enter as punctuation05:13
richgar1982ooook05:14
zachin2036alright, so...got it, HAS TO BE ext3, something about a /home and don't use syntax from the movie Hackers to install stuff...got it.05:14
zachin2036;|05:14
richgar1982sorry05:14
zachin2036;)05:14
_2logan_ if it had the packagemanager would have asked your permission and confirmation.05:14
dennistermemeemeee: i know what you mean, i have lots of space on my drives, too, but when I'm rebuilding older machines, smaller drives are expensive, but all i can afford for donation purposes05:14
logan__2: thats the thing, it did, it gave me one of those "y/n" prompts. the reason im concerned is that right after this one of my auto-updates failed05:15
dennisterzachin2036: u got it...review: 3 partitions: / swap and /home. /media/movies is optional but what I'd recommend05:16
_2logan_ no.  a [y/n]  prompt is not asking permission + confirmation    an if you really want to do this then type "Yes, do as i say!"    is!05:16
richgar1982I have alredy installed build essential and i can't compile phonon any other question ?05:17
_2logan_ if you ever read that from the package manager,  just say no.05:17
memeemeeeSo if I made a root partition that was 15G would that suffice dennister?05:17
logan_oh wow, thats an actual Linux promt?!05:17
logan_*prompt05:17
_2logan_ yes.   and if you want to see it.  sudo apt-get remove libc6     will show it to you05:18
zachin2036heh, alright, so am I good to go with kubuntu?  I heard that was a good and powerful, but user-friendly distro....or should I be looking at Suse, puppy, red hat, blah blah blah05:18
dennistersizes for 4 partitions: 10G for / 1G for swap 10G for /home and 49G for /media/movies still leaves 230 for winblows ...until you get movies onto dvds05:18
jwaldoubuntu and kubuntu are both good05:18
dennisterzachin2036: kubuntu is the best...i've used lots05:19
logan_haha thats almost as good as the "we don't have super cow powers"05:19
_2zachin2036 *buntu is very near new release date.05:19
_2!intrepid05:19
ubottuAlpha Software: Intrepid Ibex is the code name for K/ubuntu 8.10, due October 30th 2008 - #ubuntu+1 for discussion. Kubuntu Intrepid will have KDE 4 as the default Desktop Environment - see  https://wiki.kubuntu.org/KubuntuIntrepidVersion | Warning lots of breaking software between now and October!05:19
jwaldoI've found Ubuntu to be the easier of the two to use05:19
logan_ok then, i feel better now. thank you _205:19
dennistermemeemeee: 15G...that's ok, when I started with Linux i was used to big partitions, too...now i see that's a holdover mentality from winblows :)05:19
jwaldomostly because it's organized more like Windows05:19
_2jwaldo your insults are not needed here  :)05:20
jwaldoheh05:20
_2but yeah i guess so.05:20
jwaldoLike Windows without the suck, I should say :P05:20
dennisteri like kde/kubuntu because I like the control :) and because i tutor newbs, who feel more at ease with a winblows-like organized desktop05:20
_2oh   ok.   :)05:20
memeemeeedennister,  when you tell zachin2036 that he should have a /media/movies does that go for any directory on which you expect to store lots of data (ie. a Downloads/Torrents mountpoint)05:21
_2zachin2036 the "alpha" in that infonode is out of date. it's late beta now.05:21
memeemeeethat would be /home/username/Downloads/Torrents and another one for /media/music05:22
zachin2036dennister - and to top things off, I'm on my wife's mac mini right now, which I hate - it's got an 80gb hdd, which my wife blew through in 4 days with iphoto and itunes...and it lags like nothing i've ever seen.  I'd upgrade the ram, but who could get to it?! haha05:22
zachin2036_2: thanks - I'll make sure I hunt for the latest05:23
jwaldoheh05:23
jwaldoI rather like the Mini. Shame it's so outdated, though05:23
jwaldoand impossible to open05:23
_2zachin2036 well. actually i would more suggest that you hold off for a weak and then try it.05:23
dennistermemeemeee: i'm just used to mounting other drives/partions on /media...with hardy there were installed directories (under /home/username for videos, music, pictures, etc., that I find very useful...05:24
jwaldoActually, a big reason for me learning linux is in case they discontinue the Mini05:24
dennisteri need to take a 10 minute break guys...bbs05:24
zachin2036_2 - can-do, now that my drive is inoperable, I've got nothing but time05:24
_2zachin2036 and you can look in on #ubuntu+1 to kind keep abreast of how things are developing    see any common problems they are trying to work out befor release date, and so forth05:27
zachin2036totally05:27
_2kinda05:27
memeemeeegotta say _2 and zachin2036 ...05:27
memeemeeeI feel like 8.04 is really stable and has less compatibity hazards than Kubuntu 8.10 which is the first implimentation of KDE4 _2 and zachin203605:28
_2memeemeee yes that's normal with prerelease.05:29
zachin2036are we saying this while dennister is away and not mentioning it once he gets back?  I'm on board haha05:29
zachin2036I like secrets05:29
zachin2036haha05:29
memeemeeebut _2 even though it's an official release, it's a major step no?05:30
_2memeemeee i have whatched the same thing play out for the last 4 years.05:30
_2memeemeee it always looks like ubuntu is backing up.  but some how they keep moving forward05:31
memeemeeebut for a noob don't you think it's best to start with Hardy, which is working very well?05:31
memeemeeeI'm asking out of genuine curiosity05:32
dennisteri saw that! :)05:32
memeemeeebut for a noob don't you think it's best to start with Hardy, which is working very well? I'm asking out of genuine curiosity _205:32
faileasmemeemeee: actually it uses 4.1 i think05:33
_2memeemeee well yes if!   1) they are willing to resist all the presure from here and #ubuntu to upgrade as soon as it releases.   and 2)  they don't have brand new hardware to deal with.05:33
dennisteractually, 8.04.1 is better than 8.04 of hardy...8.04 was very disappointing to me, and another newb is coming over tomorrow who wants to install intrepid...i'm nervous about that05:34
dennisterall of my other upgrades from dapper to gutsy went beautifully, but hardy 8.04 broke that streak for me05:34
_2memeemeee if #1 fails you have doubbled their headaches but having them install the older system this close to release date.05:34
memeemeeeso zachin2036 is looking to experiment with linux for the first time. don't you think he should start with 8.04.1 _2  faileas dennister?05:35
faileasdennister: both installs of 8.10 i have done through normal means (cd and netinst off netbootin) worked...05:35
faileasmemeemeee: depends on the system05:35
dennistermemeemeee: yes, definitely05:35
_2before they get the system stable they will be trying to upgrade...  ^    not a good experance for a beginner.05:35
zachin2036brb05:35
* faileas would have prefered to learn linux in a VM first05:35
zachin2036putting my wife to bed...she's got a baby growing in her, so she can't last much longer05:36
dennister_2 is right05:36
memeemeeelol zachin2036 welcome to the world of linux where everyone has an opinion and none of them are quite the same05:36
faileaszachin2036: congrads. she needs to sleep while she can ;p05:36
dennisterthat's for sure...i remember over 20 years ago when i was preggers...lol05:36
faileaszachin2036: what are you on now?05:36
jwaldohah, just noticed kubuntu has the right clock time05:37
memeemeeehe's on XP but it's critically infected05:37
_2half a word05:37
faileaserf. critically infected >_>05:37
jwaldoXP was all screwed up last night because of the DST changes, kept me up til 4:00 thinking it was earlier05:37
* faileas was about to suggest coming to terms with linux with a VM first05:37
faileasoh, i did ;p05:38
memeemeeelol faileas05:38
faileaszachin2036: have enough ram to use the live disk?05:38
faileas(never install anything you don't entirely understand. i can say for a fact VMware server was CRITICAL in getting me to switch completely)05:39
faileaswell almost completely05:39
_2live CD is slow unless you can load all into ram and eject05:39
faileas_2: true05:39
memeemeeeyes. he does. and was suggested to use that to install on a usb drive05:39
jwaldoapparently when Microsoft says SP2 includes "includes all important upgrades", they actually mean "not all important upgrades"05:39
memeemeeeto recover data05:39
faileasjwaldo: OT but there's a very nice app from heise.de for that. they have an offline updater which gets a system up to scratch automagically ;p05:40
faileasy05:40
_2jwaldo no no no.  they just don't define "important" the same way you do  :)05:40
faileasoops. the y was for my console ;p05:40

jwaldoSecurity is maintained. Sanity is optional05:40
_2:)05:41
dennisterha! and k3b said there was an error with burning my mini.iso! almost done :)05:41
dennisterbase system is in, opensshserver, printserver, and xubuntu are almost done installing :)05:42
faileasjwaldo: windows users are sane? ;p05:42
jwaldoThey may start off that way05:42
_2faileas yes.   again they just don't define "same" the same way we do   :)05:43
memeemeeedennister, u ever work with jwm?05:43
memeemeeeor anyone else for that matter?05:44
faileas_2: well technically most of the computers i admin are windows, and the only reason i manage is a well planned admin system ;p05:45
dennisterno, i don't know jwm...or at least I don't think so...i do know genii personally and he really knows what he's doing05:45
jwaldookay, sleep time05:46
dennisteri worked with genii for a short while when I was at the Toronto freenet05:46
_2genii get flowers and coffee !05:46
dennisterhe's a sweetheart...and shares my caffeine addiction, lol05:47
_2:005:47
memeemeeehmm. so no one's used Joe's Windows Manager?05:48
_2memeemeee only one time.   i have used twm much more.05:49
dennisterok, not 'almost done' was at only 6% of the software install...but like I said, base system was installed, so even if the rest doesn't get installed with the mini.iso, i can do the rest in console05:49
dennisteroh, lord....jwm is not a peson, heheheheh05:49
dennister*person05:49
_2memeemeee i've even used joe's own editor more than i have used jwm.   but i prefer blackbox.05:50
memeemeeeI am using it now for my laptop (very limited RAM) but I'm missing a bit of options and/or documentation05:52
dennisterhmmm...still at 6%, but downloaded apps have gone from 96 to over 400...it's still downloading, and 6% is holding steady05:53
_2usage before starting xorg + blackbox "Memory Used/Total Percent: 24/502 MB (4%)" usage after starting them "Memory Used/Total Percent: 28/502 MB (5%)"   as you can see it's a pretty small foot print.05:54
dennisteroh well, if i can just get the mini.iso finished, and get ubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop started b4 I go to bed...05:54
memeemeeeyeah! that's pretty great! what libs does it use?05:54
_2dennister i wouldn't expect the 6% to move until the dl is finisned.05:55
dennisteralmost 2 am here, and I have to go to legal aid again in the morning...don't mind me, just getting tired here05:55
_2memeemeee apt-cache show blackbox05:55

Far^Sidehello, does the AMD64 build of Kubuntu support binary drivers (which probably is 32bit) for e.g. AMD/ATI or nVidia graphic adapters?22:19
crimsunFar^Side: yes, both 32- and 64-bit.22:19
Far^Sidecrimsun, ok22:20
crimsunE.g., I'm on 64-bit Kubuntu 8.10RC ATM22:20
Far^Sidebut what about binary applications, like Adobe Reader and other 32bit only apps?22:20
crimsunFlash 10 probably won't work; that's a known issue in Kubuntu 8.10RC22:21
crimsunAdobe Reader works fine22:21
Far^Sideok22:21
crimsun(BTW, the Flash 10 issue is independent of $arch)22:22
Far^Sidecrimsun, I tried to find the ISO for the 8.10RC, but I did only find a DVD image. Isn't there any CD images out there?22:22
crimsunFar^Side: http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/intrepid/22:24
Far^Sidecrimsun, ok, I was using this: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/intrepid/rc/22:25
Far^Sidebut what about 32bit .deb packages? I've read that this might be a problem: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CommonQuestions#AMD64 Processors22:27
Tukonhi all22:27
Tukonis there any way to prevent all the drawing artifacts when using firefox?22:27
cobelloyhi I have a little problem with internet - I have a wireless modem that works fine with wvdial but only when the ethernet and regular wireless adapters are disabled, the ppp0 interface does not show up in the network manager so I cannot set it as the default route - how do I make it show up there?22:27
favro!dialup22:28
ubottuYou want to connect via dial-up? Read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DialupModemHowto - Also try disabling/removing KNetworkManager if KDE applications cannot connect using dial-up22:28
crimsunFar^Side: there are a variety of ways to use those, but you should always use a 64-bit deb if available.22:28
crimsunFar^Side: E.g., getlibs22:28
Far^Sideyeah I know...22:28
cobelloyalso annoying is that the modem is detected and works fine with wvdial but kppp continues to report "cannot open modem" when I try to set it up that way22:30
Dragonathati radeon hd3650 isn't a supported card in 8.04 is it? :)22:31
cobelloyfavro: i have looked at all the links provided, none of them help with the issues?22:36
cobelloyit is not a dial up problem as such, the modem is going well - i am using it now, it is that the ppp0 interface does not register in network manager to set it as a default route22:37
favrocobelloy: sorry but I don't use dialup - that link was the extent of my knowledge...22:38
cobelloyhow do I get the system to see the ppp0 interface that is configured/controlled solely by wvdial?22:38
cobelloydoh...22:38
cobelloyi would like to be able to use the ethernet and standart wireless interfaces at the same time as the modem22:39
cobelloyit all works so well aside from that22:39
=== Guest80669 is now known as winterelf

winterelfhi, that's a wierd question but how can i increas the volume on my laptop? i know it can get better performance but it's wierd i can hear very weak, i m using amarok for my music22:42
cobelloyat the moment I have three icons on the desktop to get the modem working, one of them is a link to a short script, "gksudo wvdialconf" - how can I change that command so that it opens a terminal window while it is working?22:43
favrocobelloy: I use   Eterm -e "script"   - read man konsole it might be able to open and run a command22:45
