popeyogra: don't suppose you know how to switch _off_ the "maximise all windows and have no decorations" feature of ubuntu mobile do you?00:29
superm1Hi folks, i Had a question regarding ubuntu-mobile.  Is there a particular reason that the "dark" look was chosen and deviates from standard Ubuntu look?01:26
persiasuperm1, No special reason : mostly to make it look different.  There are a couple theme tweaks, but nothing that couldn't be applied to a different theme.02:27
persiapopey, It's a gconf key : I believe it's in /desktop/ somewhere.  I can hunt it down later if you don't find it easily.02:28
superm1persia, so i take it enough apps look well in the dark theme to make it justifiable then?  i had assumed that was the reason that standard didn't go dark in the end02:28
persiaAt least the basic apps in the image displayed reasonably.  I think there was significantly less testing and review than for Ubuntu Desktop, so it may be that some things are unsuitable.02:29
persiaFor the most part, a dark theme can work fairly well, at least from listening to reports from Ubuntu Studio users, although it may not work as well for *everything*, and Ubuntu Desktop has a much wider userbase than anything else.02:30
superm1well for what it's worth, the devices i was mentioning the other day are 1024x600, so those teams will be giving it a look02:30
superm1but if anywhere that's the resistance that i'd suspect02:30
persiaYou might do a diff between NewHuman and NewHumanMobile.  I suspect the same changes would work simply if applied against Human rather than NewHuman.02:31
superm1well the ideal solution will be not having to make any changes :), so i'll just hold off offering that as a suggestion for now to them02:32
persiaYeah, it's just that with the archive frozen, no changes or updates are being published.02:35
persiaAnd when SRUs start (Thursday or Friday I think), putting in a new theme package would be tricky.02:35
superm1well odds are if the only complaint is theming, it will be a factory only change02:36
superm1but in planning for jaunty, i was mostly curious for if there was a big driving reason behind it 02:36
persiaIt looked nice?02:38
persiaReally, it's more a collection of input by various interested parties, rather than any specific guided product : the goal is to make something that is interesting and useful for the people that use it.02:39
superm1well i'll pass on any feedback that I get after they look at it.  it will be a little bit until i get it likely though given their current schedule02:41

popeypersia: thanks, I'll have a rummage10:34
ograpopey, not a gconf key10:36
ogrago to system->preferences->sessions, uncheck devilspie ... re-login10:36
persiaogra, devilspie doesn't store that stuff in gconf?10:38
ogranope10:38
popeyperfect10:38
ograit uses a config file 10:38
popeythanks ogra 10:38
popeyI "converted" my ubuntu mobile install on the e900 to an ubuntu desktop install10:38
persiapopey, My apologies for the misdirection.10:38
ograit has its own markup language to do anything you want with a WM window10:39
popeyno worries persia - I hadn't got as far as gconf anyway :)10:39
persiapopey, Screen too big for all-maximised-all-the-time ?10:39
popeyit's only a 9" screen, but I prefer gnomey stuff10:39
ograapt-get remove --purge ubuntu-mobile-default-settings ;)10:39
persiaIt is all gnomey stuff, but with gconf fiddling :)10:40
ograkill your user .gconf dir and you should mainly have a default ubuntu desktop10:40
popeyif I had a touch screen mini thing then yes, I'd probably go ubuntu mobile but as the eee 900 is kinda a "proper" big boys computer, i prefer a gnome desktop10:40
persiapopey, You *really* want to purge the default-settings package then : that does all the gconf magic to make it look different.10:40
popeyi have manually tweaked everything, turning it into a real web book - removing most of the local apps10:40
popeyyeah, that went early on :)10:41
popeysorry chaps, don't mean to distract you from important release type stuff with my eee tales :)10:41
ograhmm, the devilspie config should have gone with uninstalling ubuntu-mobile-default-settings10:41
persiaAt this point, we're just testing images, so not a problem.  It's always good to hear from users.10:41
ograso you shouldnt have any maximized undecorated windows anymore10:41
persiapopey, You might want to just purge devilspie.10:41
popeyyes, ubuntu-mobile-default-settings is definitely already removed, but devilspie remained10:42
ograwell, devilspie shouldnt sart without a config file ... and that config sits in ubuntu-mobile-default-settings10:42
ograso i wonder whats going on there10:42
ograi guess you didnt purge :)10:43
popeyyes, status is rc10:43
ograso the configs stay in place 10:43
popeywell spotted10:43
ian_brasilogra: i tracked down the expensive GTKDrawing call in the NewHumanMobile theme to it setting rgba to TRUE in the murrine engine.10:44
ograapt-get remove --purge cellwriter devilspie xautomation xserver-xorg-input-evtounch netbook-launcher ...10:44
ograthen all mobile specific pieces should be gone10:44
ograian_brasil, ah, might be worth an SRU, though i have to check how the look changes 10:44
ian_brasilsetting this to FALSE brins it back in line with the others...you loose opacity but i mthink it looks ok 10:45
ogras/opacity/transparency/ *10:46
ogra?10:46
ian_brasilyes right transparency...rgba calls it opacity for some reason10:46
ian_brasilwhat is SRU?10:49
ograstable release update :)10:51
ograpost release change through an update ... we cant change the image contants anymore 10:52
ogra*contents10:52
