=== newz20001 is now known as newz2000 [12:51] hi all [12:52] where do I find newz2000 ? [12:52] I mean, is he online in some other channel? :-) [13:48] hey pips1, just a min and I'll be able to talk [14:01] newz2000: ah, good timing [14:02] hey pips1 [14:02] hi [14:02] I'm back, what's up? [14:02] how is it going? [14:02] oh busy, fun, exciting, that type of stuff. :-) [14:02] and you? [14:03] I'm organising someone from the edubuntu volunteers to help out with updating edubuntu.org for release tomorrow. Unfortuately, I busy with work all day tomorrow :-( [14:03] looks like i found someone to help out [14:03] ok, cool [14:03] his nick is nubae [14:04] he has been volunteering lots of documentation for LTSP [14:05] He can give RichEd a hand with publishing the release notes, etc. tomorrow [14:05] ok, my plan is that we'll update your include file so that the download page's links get updated automatically [14:05] great [14:06] if you keep the same name, you won't even need to login to drupal on our site [14:06] thats what I'll do then [14:07] btw, I noticed a new user account in drupal with siteadmin rights.. this is news to me.. have you been in touch with anyone / know of someone new to look after the edubuntu.org site? [14:07] his user name is 'tirion' [14:08] no, I don't know what that is [14:08] that is concerning [14:08] perhaps this user is https://launchpad.net/~tirion [14:09] hmm [14:09] I'll ask RichEd, perhaps he knows. [14:20] newz2000: meet Nubae [14:20] Nubae: meet newz2000 [14:21] :-) [14:21] hi newz2000 [14:21] hi Nubae, nice to meet you [14:21] same [14:21] newz2000: Nubae has kindly agreed to help out for tomorrows release updates on edubuntu.org [14:21] cool. do you have everything you need to login to the site and get it updated? [14:22] I'll talk him through it, but in case he needs some expert help, I just thought i'd introduce the two of you [14:22] ok, Im logged in to the edubuntu.org site [14:22] Nubae: I just promoted you to siteadmin :-) [14:22] I'm happy to help [14:22] seems quite straight forward... [14:22] right [14:23] so Ill create 2 new pages, one for download, another for release notes [14:23] right? [14:23] I guess I can copy the old ones and base them on that [14:23] Nubae: I normally create a new page and prepare all html there, and then once everything is ready and the official release announcement mail on the mailing list is ready to go, I change the /Download alias to point to the new page (node) [14:24] ok, sounds good [14:24] are you familiar with the 'path alias' settings screen in drupal? [14:24] link? [14:24] '/admin/build/path' [14:25] http://www.edubuntu.org/admin/build/path [14:25] ok got it [14:25] it's number four in the list [14:25] just change the node number to the new page node number [14:26] right, with u so far [14:26] release notes is just a new page right? [14:27] and I guess there is also news/release, or is that a link to releasenotes? [14:27] release notes is just a new page, correct [14:28] ok news/releasenotes and realeasenotes seem to be different pages [14:28] you will have to create a new alias with a url that will be part of the announcement mail... riched needs to tell you what that url is... it should be coordinated with the other sites ubuntu.com, kubuntu.org etc [14:28] brb my son is unhappy [14:28] ok :-) [14:40] Nubae: i'm back [14:41] so RichEd will send you the release notes as plain text by email, and then you dress it up as html adding the links, etc. [14:42] now, for the download page: you can really already get started on that. just copy over the current one and change the release number, etc [14:43] ok [14:43] gonna go eat and then I'll dive in [14:43] Nubae: there is a section that has lots of links to download mirror sites.. this list is created by a script on the server that newz2000 wrote for us. newz2000 will update that script on the server so it will have the new release urls.. [14:44] ok, and these urls will be where? [14:44] already linked in edubuntu.org? [14:45] so basically, don't worry about the mirror links, they will appear as long as you keep the bit of code that includes the script from newz2000. [14:45] it starts with " ah ok, gotcha [14:45] that will include all those links dynamically. [14:45] Nubae: thanks a lot for helping out! [14:46] no probs... [14:46] I've been meaning to update some of the content anyway, thats the reason why I orginally got the editor account [14:46] lots of stuff talks of 5.10 and 6.10 ;-) [14:47] great [14:47] till when is dapper supported? [14:47] In case you want to get in touch with me: https://launchpad.net/~philipp.schroeder [14:47] ok bookmarked [14:48] enjoy your meal! I'll try to get in touch tomorrow, as soon as i'm done with my work meetings, etc [14:48] ok [14:48] see you! [14:48] see ya [14:48] for the record, dapper desktop is supported until June of next year, sever until June of 2011 [15:28] thanks newz2000 [15:29] my pleasure! tty tomorrow [17:38] hello [22:55] hi all [22:56] hi Turl, thanks for being willing to help with the javascript. If you succeed you'll be the hero for release day. :-) [22:56] * newz2000 will be back soon
