fatmonkfoxbuntu, fastie81: did I miss anything during the reboots? Have got a Windows IRC session running now so mythbox reboots wont affect...00:04
fastie81no foxbuntu just went for lunch... :)00:05
fatmonkfastie81: how far did you get? you seemed to a /dev/lirc1 which is further than I got.. I've still only got /dev/lircd. Have you always had lirc1 in there?00:08
fastie81no I had the lircd100:08
* foxbuntu wonders back in from pizza land00:09

fatmonk1foxbuntu: 2 pairs of eyes eagerly watching for next instructions!00:10
foxbuntuwell I just finished a complete reload again on my fusion case, and it with out doing anything was enabled00:10
foxbuntutry this: sudo apt-get install --reinstall lirc00:10
fastie81could it be something with the soundgraph version?00:10
foxbuntufastie81, Im using the exact same case as you00:11
fastie81!pastebin00:12
Zinnwhen pasting more than 5 lines of data please use http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com so you don't flood the channel.  Then please post the link in the channel.00:12
fastie81foxbuntu: here is my output00:13
fastie81http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m3a35e0d300:13
fatmonk1faxbuntu: I've got some real oddities going on here. I just tried teh reinstall and when it tried to stop lirc it failed as though it wasn;t running... BUT as I've just rebooted my control is working in so far as the direction pad and mouse buttons and number buttons work ok. LIRC started up again after the reboot ok though...00:13
foxbuntufastie81, pastebin this file: /etc/lirc/hardware.conf00:14
fatmonk1foxbuntu: output from the reinstall all looked good for me: pastebin: http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/d50a29e3d00:17
foxbuntufastie81, fatmonk what about ls /dev/lirc* after the restart?00:18
fastie81http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m1daedc0e00:19
fatmonk1foxbuntu: still just /dev/lircd, no lirc0 or lirc100:19
fastie81it is on the end of my first bin still just the work lircd and lircd100:19
fatmonk1foxbuntu: but can still move the mouse pointer with the remote!00:19
foxbuntufatmonk, intresting, well your remote works then00:20
foxbuntufatmonk, which remote are you using? the MCE that comes with the fusion?00:20
fastie81well I don't even get the mouse working00:20
foxbuntufastie81, run this: irw00:20
foxbuntuthen hit buttons on the remote00:21
fatmonk1foxbuntu: Its branded Veris RM200, let me find it on the web...00:21

Seeker`with a nova-t 500 recording on an amd2700+, 1GB RAM, is tearing when playing on a remote frontend likely to be due to a slow frontend, slow backend, slow network or bad recording?00:24
fastie81ok what do I do in there?00:24
foxbuntuadd this line: include /usr/share/lirc/remote/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb00:25
fatmonk1foxbuntu: came with teh case, about 8 inches long and straight with a direction pad/joystick just above half way up. If I press anything other than the direction pad, mouse left click , mouse right click or number buttons it stops working altogether.00:25
foxbuntufatmonk, do this as well00:25
foxbuntufatmonk, oh thats a imon pad remote00:25
foxbuntufatmonk, add the line: include /usr/share/lirc/remotes/imon/lircd.conf.imon-pad00:26
fatmonk1foxbuntu: to the hardware.conf file?00:27
foxbuntuthen both of you save the file and restart lirc: sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart00:27
foxbuntufatmonk, yes00:27
foxbuntuer00:27
foxbuntuno00:27
foxbuntuto the lircd.conf00:27
fastie81ok done00:27
foxbuntuthen after restarting lirc run this: mythbuntu-lircrc-generator00:28
foxbuntuthen restart mythtv if its open on the machine00:28
foxbuntuthen try your remotes00:28
fastie81ok here is my output00:29
fastie81http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m164345fe00:29
fatmonk1foxuntu: already got exactly that in both /etc/lircd.conf and /etc/lirc/lircd.conf00:30
foxbuntuyou have a path wrong in your lircd.conf00:30
foxbuntufastie81, /usr/share/lirc/remote/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb should be /usr/share/lirc/remotes/mceusb/lircd.conf.mceusb00:31
foxbuntufatmonk, try running mythbuntu-lircrc-generator then00:32
fastie81ok  it say You should now have a .lircrc file generated in /home/fastie/.lircrc00:32
fastie81All application specific lircrc files are in /home/fastie/.lirc00:32
foxbuntuok, now continue with my directions00:33
fastie81and if I test it in mythtv it it a no go00:33
foxbuntudid you restart it before testing?00:33
fastie81yes00:33
foxbuntuok00:33

foxbuntufastie81, Im not sure what you have done prior to me helping, it is prob worth while considering its a fresh install, to reload the machine and besure to select the Soundgraph IR/VFD during the install00:35
fastie81ok I just restared the backend and front end with no luck00:35
foxbuntufatmonk, ok, restart mythtv and try the remote00:35
fastie81ok well I will do that now..00:35
fastie81would you be around in an hour?? then I will do it now quick00:36
foxbuntufastie81, prob..I am pretty entrenched in my dev machine00:36
fastie81no worries.. I will see if you are around when I am back..00:37
fatmonk1foxbuntu: started the frontend again (do I need to restart the backend aswell?) mouse pointer stilol moving. pressed play button and remote stopped working again.00:37
foxbuntufatmonk1, nope, frotnend only00:37
foxbuntufatmonk1, exit the frontend and run irw and see what happens00:38
fatmonk1foxbuntu: tried /etc/init.d/lirc restart and still nothing from the remote again now...00:39

fatmonk1foxbuntu: I'm going to have to give up for the night soon, I'm afraid... will have t come back to this tomorrow...00:46
foxbuntuwould you be ok with a reload...I just hate chasing ghosts, I have the bad habit of changing stuff and forgeting about it too, so...00:46
foxbuntufatmonk1, alright...well if your still around and I get better ideas I will try to catch you but right now I just dont know what is going on00:47

mrmowgliisn't it supposed to have mappings to mythtv?03:03
tgm4883_laptoplircd.conf?03:03
mrmowglilircd.conf points to the "right" key mappings, but I thought the lircmd.conf was supposed to map those to actual commands03:04
tgm4883_laptopfoxbuntu, ^03:04
tgm4883_laptopi never heard of lircmd.conf03:05

mrmowglioh ok03:06
mrmowgliExcellent, thanks!03:07
mrmowgliah ok so to set up the new mapping for a model not in there I have to modify the mappings of the files  of ~/.lirc/03:19
mrmowgliSince my remote isn't supported, where would I submit changes for my remote? Huappage WinTv-HVR-160003:20
Ahmuckhi03:21
Ahmucki'd like to run mythbuntu for an ip camera.  possible?03:21

mrmowglifoxbuntu: If I wanted to add another remote profile to the lircrc generator, how would I go about doing that?03:37
foxbuntumrmowgli, just add an include to your lircd.conf and rerun it03:38
mrmowgliadd an include in which file?03:39
foxbuntu/etc/lirc/lircd.conf03:39
foxbuntuadd a line like: incldue /path/to/some/file.conf03:39

JustJimHi all09:09
lagahey09:10
JustJimI'd like to know where to put my tv_grab file.  The documentation I got from the provider (Ice TV in Australia) says /usr/bin09:11
JustJimbut Mythtv backend setup doesn't find it there.  Any ideas?09:11
lagais it baseline compliant?09:13
JustJimThe grabber?  I've had it working before but I've just done a re-install and can't remember where I ended up puting it last time!09:13
lagaJustJim: mythtv 0.21 calls tv_find_grabbers which only lists baseline compliant grabbers09:14
JustJimLaga, I understood every single word in that sentence.  The whole sentence slipped over my head though.09:16
lagaheh09:23
lagaJustJim: there's a program called tv_find_grabbers09:23
lagamythtv uses that to find all available grabbers09:23
lagayou can start it in a terminal to see what it finds09:24
lagait will only list grabbers which support a specific set of interfacesd09:24
lagainterfaces*09:24
lagathese interfaces are called "capabilities"09:24
lagaif your tv_grab file doesn't support the --capabilities option, it's not going to work09:25
lagayou can always use mythfilldatabase --file to feed it a xmltv file generated by your grabber, though09:25
lagaokay, i've got to run09:25

KjetilKI had a problem getting listings for a long time, but it never caused any problems actually watching livetv14:26

noiii've been using mythtv on ubuntu for a little while. I added mythbuntu, and managed to end up starting up a slightly different version of the front end, and now my OK and back buttons don't work on my remote - I'm guessing there is another lircrc that is being read before the one I set up myself? any ideas where that might be?15:56
rhpot1991noii: odds are you just need to modify the buttons in ~/.lirc/mythtv15:56
rhpot1991also, make a backup of whatever your final changes are, incase they get overwritten by an upgrade15:57

lagathrew synaptic?18:51
superm1darkwizard, it sounds like you have a third party repository enabled.  You might consider pastebin'ing your /etc/apt/sources.list18:53
superm1!pastebin | darkwizard18:53
Zinndarkwizard: when pasting more than 5 lines of data please use http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com so you don't flood the channel.  Then please post the link in the channel.18:53
NicEXEwhat should I do to restore my website?18:53
superm1MythbuntuGuest79, 4 mice?  can you take a screen shot or digital camera shot?18:53
MythbuntuGuest79y18:53
MythbuntuGuest79i see 4 mice18:54
MythbuntuGuest79but there is just one iknow :D18:54
superm1so we can see what you mean, and possibly get the content into a bug18:54
superm1so that it can get fixed18:54
MythbuntuGuest79i take a photo18:54
MythbuntuGuest79mom18:55
MythbuntuGuest79perhaps i can try to activate the graphic driver while i am in live mode18:56
MythbuntuGuest79but then i need the command for this18:56
MythbuntuGuest79my linux knowledge isnt that good18:56
superm1its not possible to activate a proprietary driver in live mode at this point unfortunately18:58
MythbuntuGuest79mmhhh18:58
MythbuntuGuest79what about installing in Text mode?18:59
MythbuntuGuest79rebooting and then installing the driver?19:00
darkwizardhttp://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m23a6eb819:00
superm1darkwizard, it looks like you have intrepid sources in that list.  you sure you were installing 8.04?19:01
superm1MythbuntuGuest79, all depends on how bad this problem is.  sure you can install in text mode19:01
darkwizardyes19:01
darkwizardi updated to 8.1019:01
superm1darkwizard, ah okay.  can you run "apt-cache policy mythtv-frontend" then?19:02
darkwizardno it won't boot19:02
darkwizardit won't startx19:02
superm1i thought the issue was freezing when going into the guide?19:02
superm1which one is it19:02
darkwizardi fixed startx but now it wacked19:03
darkwizardso i have to do that19:03
darkwizardand that will fix it19:03
darkwizardokay that ran19:04
darkwizardnow u want me to paste it at pastebin19:04
superm1yeah19:04
darkwizardhttp://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/d1e0b20c319:06
superm1so you're not actually on the current intrepid packages19:06
superm1i would recommend running your updates and letting them catch up19:06
darkwizardokay19:06
MythbuntuGuest79so here is my Screenshot with a cam http://img379.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cimg6327yy8.jpg19:07
superm1MythbuntuGuest79, okay so that looks like a couple of possibilities that could have caused it.19:07
darkwizardis 8.10 any better19:07
superm1do you have a different monitor you can install with?19:07
MythbuntuGuest79yeah19:08
MythbuntuGuest79a TV19:08
MythbuntuGuest79and another monitor19:08
superm1i would recommend trying another one.  it looks like the hsync and vrefresh might not be getting detected correctly19:08
MythbuntuGuest79actually ive got a 19"19:08
wilberfanmorning, superm119:09
superm1good $time_o_day wilberfan19:09
MythbuntuGuest79okay trying it with the 17"19:09
MythbuntuGuest79thabk you19:09
wilberfani'm having a volume problem:  OSD shows volume raising and lowering...  but actual levels not changing...19:09
UsrCletusHey guys what's up? I am interested in installing mythbuntu on an older pc I have, and just bought a tv tuner card yesterday... I have digital cable, and i would like to be able to decode the QAM signal in order to bypass my box... (Basically I am paying for one box and the extra channels, but I would like avoid the fee for a second box) I know i could split the output from the box, but I would like to avoid that as well... anyone know of a19:09
UsrCletusIt's an older tv tuner card19:09
wilberfanmute shows "on" & "off" but audio doesn't go on & off...19:10
superm1wilberfan, open up alsamixer side by side and see if the mixer is changing, and if it's the right mixer changing19:10
wilberfansuperm1, levels WILL change if I use volume applet...19:10
wilberfan(via mouse, etc)19:10
superm1wilberfan, yeah i'm just suspecting myth is mapping to the wrong mixer19:10
wilberfansame hardware as hardy install.  installed intrepid on sep partition...19:11
superm1UsrCletus, QAM is generally encrypted for most non-local (eg avail OTA) stations19:11
UsrCletussuperm1: i realize, but am wondering if there is a software that will decrypt those signals...19:11
superm1UsrCletus, if there was, it wouldn't be up for discussion in this room19:11
superm1UsrCletus, but afaik there isn't anyhow19:11
wilberfanalsamixer shows "card" as "PulseAudio"...?19:11
UsrCletusso that I can essential descramble the channels i am already paying for and avoid a second box? it's perfectly legal19:12
UsrCletusi'm not trying to steal cable19:12
UsrCletusi already pay19:12
UsrCletuswhy no discussion?19:12
superm1wilberfan, oh yuck, pulseaudio :(19:12
superm1UsrCletus, it's just one of those gray areas in legality19:12
wilberfansuperm1, that doesn't sound right to me, either...19:12
wilberfancan't i change that config somewhere?19:12
superm1wilberfan, i didn't realize you had gnome up and runnning here with pulseaudio and all19:12
UsrCletusi don't want to get kicked, just don't fully understand... you know of any channels that might offer support in this area?19:12
superm1UsrCletus, sorry most of the mythtv community strays away from this discussion so I can't really point you anywhere useful19:13
superm1wilberfan, well so a few possible solutions; you can go into mythtv19:13
UsrCletussuperm1: thanks19:13
superm1s frontend setup and change the device to *not* be alsa:default or alsa:pulse19:14
superm1but rather something more useful.19:14
wilberfanlike...?19:14
superm1or remove pulseaudio from your install19:14
superm1like.. hum19:14
wilberfan"apt-get remove pulseaudio"?19:14
superm1i'm not sure19:14
superm1yeah that would do the trick19:14
wilberfan:)19:14
wilberfanwhat IS PulseAudio?19:15
wilberfanoh crap...   it's removing ubuntu-desktop!   Is that right??19:16
MythbuntuGuest79THe SOundserver19:16
superm1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PulseAudio19:16
wilberfando i have to restore ubuntu-desktop?19:16
superm1ubuntu-desktop is just a meta package, so that should be okay to do.19:16
wilberfan{ whew }19:16
superm1just when you upgrade to say 9.04, you might need to reinstall ubuntu-desktop and reperform these tasks19:17
wilberfani almost NEVER upgrade...  always a clean-install?19:17
superm1well then that should be a moot point for you19:17
wilberfanokay...pulse is adios19:17
wilberfando i have to restart something...?19:17
superm1killall pulseaudio19:17
superm1and then you're set19:18
MythbuntuGuest79ah now its working19:18
MythbuntuGuest79it was the monitor19:18
MythbuntuGuest79thank you very much :D19:18
wilberfansuperm1, alsamixer looks better already:  "Card: Sound Fusion CS46xx"19:18
wilberfan:)19:18
wilberfanwhere's that remote...let me test this out...19:19
superm1MythbuntuGuest79, glad to hear.  you might have more luck with that monitor post install when you install the driver for the graphics card19:19
wilberfansuperm1, no sound at all now...and no OSD either...19:20
wilberfan:(19:20
superm1wilberfan, did you restart mythfrontend too?19:20
MythbuntuGuest79i think so too19:20
superm1probably forgot to mention that part19:20
wilberfani just thought of that...no....19:20
MythbuntuGuest79thank you again19:20
wilberfanbrb19:20
MythbuntuGuest79by :D19:20
wilberfansuperm1, awwwwwwwesooooooome, duuuuuuuude....19:22
wilberfan:D19:22
wilberfanis "Internal" still the "prefered" playback method...?19:23
superm1that's personal preference19:23
wilberfansuperm1, does each do something better than the others?  (and worse)?19:24
wilberfanand does anyone happen to know what the vlc command line options should be (there's about 420 of them!)19:25
superm1wilberfan, try setting the VLC options in the GUI instead.  it will save them as defaults19:27
superm1wilberfan, it's a mattter of whether you have an external means to control volume or not (eg external amp).  it sounds like you dont19:27
wilberfanno, i don't...  just out of the soundcard, into an old boombox near the tv19:28
wilberfan:)19:28
wilberfansuperm1, so if i install vlc, set the options in the gui, then do i just enter "vlc" in the proper frontend config screen?19:29
superm1yeah more or less19:31
halfb8kedhaving problems with the mythbuntu live cd. boots fine, but when i choose "mythbuntu live environment" i eventually just see a "not supported mode" bluescreen. can anyone help?19:32
wilberfanlol   it's the "more" and "less" part that always ends up screwing me!19:32
superm1halfb8ked, try safe graphics mode19:32
superm1it's one of the F* key menus at the bottom19:32
halfb8kedhm19:34
halfb8kedthose appear past the bottom of my screen19:34
wilberfandoes anyone here prefer something other than the Internal player? (curious)19:34
lagaxine for dvds19:34
halfb8kedok, found it, f419:34
wilberfanlaga, interesting.  i've never tried a DVD via myth..19:35
wilberfansomeone last week recommended xine to avoid sound-sync problems...but then superm1 reminded me about the sound-sync option in Internal...19:36
wilberfani liked xine...but my .avi's all started with the volume at zero...  (kind of a PIA)19:36
superm1remember pulseaudio was here then19:37
superm1and it kills kittens19:37
tgm4883_laptopand drinks their bloodd19:37
wilberfanlol19:37
wilberfan"here"?   where...?19:37
wilberfangosh, do i have pulseaudio on my hardy myth install??19:37
wilberfanis pulse bundled with gnome, or....?19:38
superm1came with gnome, but i don't know if you had it on hardy19:38
wilberfanis there a way to tell without booting into hardy?19:39
wilberfan(i've got that partition mounted)19:39
wilberfan(wonder what kitten blood tastes like, anyway...?)19:39
tgm4883_laptopubuntu hardy shipped with pulseaudio, not sure about mythbuntu 8.04 though19:40
superm1mythbuntu did not19:40
wilberfantgm4883_laptop, well, i've typically installed ubuntu, then added myth on top...19:40
tgm4883_laptopmy guess is that you have it then19:41
wilberfanif i do a "apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" (for whatever reason) will pulse get put back on my intrepid install?19:41
tgm4883_laptopAFAIK, yes19:42
wilberfanjust found this:  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=607839219:44
