Frozen-SolidI'm trying to setup multiple IPs on my ubuntu server edition 8.04 box.  I have them setup in the /etc/network/interfaces file, but when i restart networking it tells me "SIOCADDRT: No such process" and then fails to bring up the aliases15:45
Frozen-Solidthe aliases are setup as "auto eth0:0" through eth0:6, each has an address, netmask, and gateway set, and should be set with the right options.  the default interface seems to work fine15:48
Frozen-S1lidcrisis averted: apparently our pix sucks and didn't refresh it's mac to ip database when we switched servers16:15
Frozen-S1lidthanks anyways though!16:15
tonyyarussoI didn't even know you could do that...17:00
Deepsmessy way of doing it17:03
Deepsbetter off using ip addr add17:03
Deepsand adding multiple ips to a single interface, instead of creating a tonne of virtual interfaces17:04
tonyyarussoDeeps: Seriously?  "ip addr add"?  That's the same syntax as Cisco IOS.17:17
J-_What directories should I backup on my LAMP server? /var/www for sure, anything else? I know I have to do a mysql dump as well.17:18
tonyyarussoJ-_: /etc.17:31
tonyyarussoJ-_: /home (even if it's not _really_ being used, I usually have some random thing in there.), /opt if you use it17:33
J-_cool, yeah I don't really use /home, or /opt17:33
tonyyarussoJ-_: /var/log, /var/mail17:34
tonyyarussoJ-_: I also like to do /boot, for when you screw up your initrd or whatever.17:35
tonyyarussoI think that pretty well covers it.17:35
tonyyarussoAnd with that, I need to go to work.17:35

tonyyarussoarooni: Most of it is done in /etc/postfix/main.cf, but for details you'll have to read some documentation.  YOu'll find a fair amount in the Ubuntu Server guide, or if you prefer print pick up "The Book Of Postfix".23:35
* ScottK mumbles "or hire a consultant to read it for you".23:37
tonyyarussoarooni: Once you've done a bit of that and have some background to work with, specific problems you still have can probably be dealt with better in #postfix (a bit more active than here).23:38
tonyyarussoScottK: Thanks for your reply about mail components btw - super helpful.23:39
