bsusahello all00:12
bsusacould someone please tell me which TV Tuner card is the best compatable one for Mythbuntu 8.04, and the remote control 100% compatable?00:13
toorima__sd or hd?00:14
bsusaI was looking at this card but im not sure Dvico FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual Digital 4?00:14
bsusawell for sd or hd together or seperate00:15
bsusaany ideas00:20
toorima__seems to be suported http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/DViCO_FusionHDTV_DVB-T_Dual_Digital_400:20
bsusai know but my TwinHan one was supported too and the remote is not picking up all the keys i had to set it up as a keyboard.00:22
bsusaso im hoping the Fusion one has direct support for all the buttons00:22
bsusawhich one do you use?00:22
toorima__i have the pvr150 with remote for sd and pchdtv5500 for hd00:23
bsusado all the functions on the remote work00:23
bsusa?00:23
toorima__but not even that remote had every key mapped, but most of them, the rest i just mapped myself00:23
bsusaok00:24
bsusahow much are the pvr150's?00:25
tgm4883_laptopbsusa, ebay00:25
toorima__not much but its sd only, if i would buy cards today i would probably go with hdhomerun00:26
bsusaI found the Fusion card locally so im thinking would it support it, its $137 AUD00:27
pearyafter installing lirc and using mythbuntu-lircrc-generator, my ATI RF v1 remote still doesn't work in programs, although it shows up in ifw00:33
superm1peary, what programs?00:37
superm1tried ircat?00:37
pearysuperm1, mplayer and vlc just to test it00:45
superm1peary, okay so mplayer should work in theory.00:45
pearynope, what do i do with that?00:45
superm1so ircat tries to replace lircrc settings00:46
superm1look at man ircat for a little on how to use it00:46
jerky_2so i'm having some performance problems on my myth box. i'm running mythbuntu 8.10 now but the problem was there on 8.04 too. my box will be running fine (frontend, backend, even mythcommflag sometimes) and then all of a sudden it starts stuttering pretty badly for a few seconds. it doesn't seem to happen at any specific interval...00:46
jerky_2but when i take a look at the 'top' output, it always corresponds with 'mysqld' jumping up the CPU usage column. when it drops off the top CPU users the performance problems are gone. any ideas for what could be wrong or how to troubleshoot this?00:46
jerky_2mysqld runs as the mysql user whereas mythfrontend runs as my user and mythbackend (+other stuff) runs as the mythtv user00:46
jerky_2it seems like the mysqld process just starves the CPU because otherwise the machine performs fine00:46
jerky_2just wondering if anyone else has tweaked their MySQL configuration at all... i tried running optimize_mythdb.pl but that didn't seem to help00:46
pearysuperm1, so it should be run something like "ircat mplayer" and will help to debug lircrc?00:49
superm1peary, yeah generally that sounds right00:49
pearysuperm1, hmm well ircat looks okay and shows commands when buttons are pressed00:54
superm1then it sounds like mplayer should be working :)00:54
pearyit should be! but it isn't D:00:54
pearysame thing with vlc00:56
jerky_2anyone know how to change the "nice" level mysqld runs at in mythbuntu 8.10? i'm trying to see if that'll fix my performance problems01:06
superm1jerky_2, you might ask in #ubuntu-server01:11
superm1since mysql is what's going crazy01:11
superm1peary, not sure what else I could advise here then, sorry01:11
pearysuperm1, thanks, no prob, will keep poking at it :)01:16
scotepithe ati drivers dont install right :(01:48

frozenskunkCan any one please help with getting the TV out of a PVR-350 working? Thanks!01:59
scotepigrr... why doesnt mythbuntu work with a faily standard install02:00
frozenskunkthat's the question of the day...02:04
frozenskunkfoxbuntu: I got the channel change script working, the file needed to be in the /usr/local/bin directory. I was never able to specify a path other than that, I gave up and went with the default...02:07

cleptomaniaanyway I can get rid of the monitor detection? and force it to vga?11:22
cleptomaniamythbunutu 8.1011:22
cleptomaniaati 9100 igp onboard11:24
cleptomaniaok, sorted that out at least... xforcevesa fixed it (in fact probably just the radeon driver)11:39
Netlynx_who knows the list with the mythbuntu mirror sites. The existence of mirror locations is mentioned on the site, but no actual mirror server is listed.13:50
jphillipNetlynx_ you are automagically redirected to a mirror14:03
Netlynx_ok, i tried again and got a faster mirror. I guessed if i could select a mirror by hand, i could select a mirror closer to me.14:05
jphillipNetlynx_ its like that for a reason, to try and control bandwidth14:07
Netlynx_ok thx. This mirror is faster. This one will do.14:12

lagatoorima: try #mythtv-users19:55

toorimak thx19:58
noiievenin all. I'm being plagued by occasional loss of my remote (nova-t 500). It'll be working, and then mid way through a program, it will cut out, and disappear off  cat /proc/bus/input/devices too.21:44
noiiI've got no real idea how to debug this - any suggestions welcome.21:45
TheBlasphemerWhat'd be the best way to distribute a new Myth plugin ?23:40
DavieyTheBlasphemer: get it into mythtv source tree23:42
DavieyTheBlasphemer: what is the plugin?23:42
TheBlasphemerDaviey: A simple plugin to browser Samba shares23:42
TheBlasphemerFor now it only handles .avi/.mpg (simply hands them to MPlayer)23:43
DavieyTheBlasphemer: wouldn't it be good to get that into MythVideo ?23:43
TheBlasphemerJust needed a simpler way to play movies from my or my roommate's PC23:43
TheBlasphemerActually, no, I *hate* the fact that MythVideo is so bloated23:43
Davieyoh23:43
Davieyi mount via NFS, and use MythVideo23:43
TheBlasphemerMy former setup was mounting the shares in /var/lib/mythtv/videos and use the video plugin23:43
TheBlasphemerBut I don't want everything in a database, and have to update each time I download a new episode of heroes  of desperate housewives23:44
ynnCould someone give me a hand.  I just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10 and I lost the ability to watch recordings on my frontend/backend23:44
Davieyerm.. you don't *need* to rescan everytime23:44
* Daviey doesn't23:44
TheBlasphemer?23:44
DavieyTheBlasphemer: There is an option to not require scan, just browse23:45
TheBlasphemer... gaaah...23:45
Davieycan't tell you where without checking23:45
TheBlasphemerYou've got to be kidding me :p23:45
Davieyheh23:45
TheBlasphemerI spend a day coding this beast :p23:45
DavieyTheBlasphemer: sounds like a good project tho!23:46
TheBlasphemerErr, so ehm, one thing, will this cope with PCs that aren't online all the time?23:46
DavieyTheBlasphemer: really useful for non native types.. and perhaps videos that the Internal player doesn't handle so well23:46
TheBlasphemerOne of the problems I also had with my earlier setup was that it required the PC hosting the files to be always online23:46
DavieyATM.. for some types i need to drop into vlc - whcih is not so good23:46
DavieyTheBlasphemer: WoL :)23:46
TheBlasphemerDaviey: Mythvideo automatically passes it on to MPlayer, right ?23:46
DavieyOR.. have the media on the backend.. should always be on23:47
TheBlasphemerSee, that also requires me to do stuff before I can watch ;)23:47
DavieyTheBlasphemer: erm, default i belive yes - but i like the uniformed feel of the Internal player23:47
Davieyso i change it23:47
TheBlasphemerOk23:47
TheBlasphemerThere's no way with Samba to mount a share only when it's online? (e.g. have it be just an empty directory when the PC is off)23:48
Davieyreally?23:48
Davieywhy not use NFS?23:48
TheBlasphemerWindows boxes ;)23:48
Daviey:(23:48
TheBlasphemerThe minute I can run Visual Studio 2008 in Wine, I'm converting ;)23:49
Davieyyeah :(23:50
DavieyTheBlasphemer: virtualbox \o/23:50
TheBlasphemerNah, that's not cutting it for me :p23:50
TheBlasphemerHonestly, I tried switching to Ubuntu a while ago23:50
TheBlasphemerand I loved the eye-candy and the console and stuff23:50
TheBlasphemerEven got myself a hotkey to pop up a console from the top when needed and all23:50
TheBlasphemerbut in the end all the eye-candy and nice stuff just didn't weigh out to the stuff I missed23:50
TheBlasphemerOh well, the MythSamba plugin might still be useful for other things when I add the ability to add other file-handlers23:53
TheBlasphemerAt least it got me some experience to attempt and re-work the MythMusic plugin, that UI is horrible23:53
TheBlasphemerI mean the Windows Media Player music playing required me to explain some things to my dad, but in the end it wasn't too difficult to use.23:54
givercan anyone help? have video ok in mythbuntu,no audio, using nvidia23:54
TheBlasphemerThe MythMusic music playing interface is in one word horrible :/23:54
givernew setting up mythbuntu23:54
TheBlasphemergiver: Open up a terminal (or switch to one with ctrl+alt+F1), type alsamixer, and play about with the controls23:54
TheBlasphemerErr23:54
TheBlasphemergiver: What I usually do:23:54
TheBlasphemerStart up a video or something else that you know has sound23:55
TheBlasphemerthen drop to a command shell with Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or SSH in)23:55
giverok,I know I have sound when boots23:55
TheBlasphemerand play about with alsamixer till you hear sound23:55
giveractually, have no videos in the pc yet23:55
givernor music23:55
giverI can try playing wav sounds in some folder?23:55
TheBlasphemerYeah, sure23:55
giverok, any idea which folder have some wavs?23:56
giverdon;t know much the tree structure yet23:56
TheBlasphemerNo idea, I'm not that comfy with linux ;)23:56
