[03:23] Evening all [04:45] is there a way to provide "quotas" for users? [04:46] Ahmuck: using the FS quota thing and the quota software should do it, haven't done that for a while but there should be some good doc on internet [04:48] Ahmuck: stgraber's right for disk quotas. [04:49] would i use fs to set ACL to prevent traversing directories as well? [04:49] or is there a better tool? [04:50] * Ahmuck nudges nubae [04:51] Well, by traversing directories, do you mean prevent people from going into a directory? [04:51] breaking out of thier home directory using the file manager or command line [04:51] It's pretty much impossible to prevent them from doing that, they'll need access to a lot of things on the system. [04:52] Besides, there's not much they can do anyway, other than look. [04:52] that was always my assumption, but i was not sure [04:52] They can't get into other people's home directories, that's what's important [04:54] What directories were you looking to keep them out of? [04:55] all of them. but i suppose if they snoop, it might not be a bad thing, as they would be learning [04:55] i've got 4G ram, and a 3600 amd athlon proc. think this is going to work? [04:55] for 4 fat and three thins? [04:55] Well, you can't ban them from /bin /usr/bin /usr/sbin /lib and /usr/lib, since the program's theyre running on the desltop are in there. [04:56] i decided not to get the brand new server. i think were going to spend the money elsewhere on educational items. [04:57] Well, the 3600's a little underpowered, but at least you've got a goodly amount of ram. [04:57] So I'd say it should work not too badly. [05:39] ah, neat. ubuntu manual partition has user quota as a filesystem option [05:40] sbalneav: if they were all fat clients? [05:40] so my ram might be overkill. i might split the ram on another computer [05:41] I've never used fat clients. I'm only interested in thin clients. But I'd expect that the more you offload tot he clients, the less you need on the server. [05:48] sbalneav: evening [05:54] Evening LaserJock! [06:30] hello here [06:30] anyone here? [06:33] bubuntu: what do you need? [06:36] oh hey, i'm new here... [06:37] wondering what projects are being discussed here [06:37] or what's going on... [06:37] probably not a lot right now [06:37] it's the weekend and many people are asleep [06:41] bubuntu: in general we talk about Edubuntu and LTSP here [19:33] Hello [19:33] Is there anyone online today? [19:48] hello? === John is now known as Guest21731 [19:48] anyone there/
