JediatNightvfat can be fat16 as well03:01
JediatNightits for windows like OS03:01

legodude_yeah03:02
Dr_willis'fat' vs 'vfat'03:02

ralphogood old days03:03
Dr_willisi never was clear on where the term vfat came from.. :) 'very fat' :)03:03

legodude_virtual fat03:03

Dr_willisInteresting...03:04

JediatNightdoes DR_DOS file system support FAT32 or is it just fAT16 , i forgot.. what it supported.. remember seeing the code in 2005 :P03:05
kintethe fat32 partition is 10 gig.  and the other is 480 gig03:05
legodude_yeah03:06
legodude_that tells you somethign03:06
legodude_fat32 is limited to 127gb?03:06
JediatNightfat32 supports upto 4 TB i guess?03:06
JediatNightor 2 TB?03:06
legodude_"The project's efforts have resulted so far in adding native support for large disks (LBA) and the FAT32 filesystem. There were also several other enhancements, including improved memory management and support for the new FAT+ filesystem extension which allows files of almost 256 GB in size on normal FAT partitions."03:06

=== root is now known as Guest8225
legodude_JediatNight: but depends on implementation03:07
JediatNightthe maximum size of a fAT32 volume is 2^28 bytes ..  as 4 bits are not used in FAT32 for fat tables03:07
legodude_ralpho: could be03:08
legodude_what box is it?03:08

danub_yes, enabling the root account is less secure, but if no one but me is using it, and i dont leave security holes open to be exploited by having the root account enabled, its not that much of a security risk. as you said... sudo does the exact same thing su does...13:35
danub_well that would depend on what your trying to do i suppose13:36

j2daoshfrozenfire: did you install the 54 bit ubuntu?14:34
bascule/unquery wont close chans so: /foreach window /unquery14:34
marcus_frozenfire: I don't think so, the processor doesn't have anything to do with your internet connection...14:34
j2daoshwhat exactly is happening frozenfire?14:35
frozenfiremarcus_: well im on the new system its not just the internet connection the package manager and all that wont work either14:35
frozenfirej2daosh: well i cannot install anything the internet connection is messing up and have to manually config it every time and updates wont work14:36
j2daosheth or wlan?14:36
frozenfireeth14:36
adderhello14:36
j2daoshi think the apt might be messed up because you have no internet connection and you did a apt-get update so it doesn't have access to any of the packages14:37
marcus_frozenfire: If the internet connection doesn't work, the the package manager automatically won't work...14:37
frozenfirelike i can speak on irc i can surf the web but thats about it14:37
adderi dont understand how to register my nick...14:37
j2daoshwell that doesn't make sense...14:37

frozenfiremarcus_: fresh install right here14:37
marcus_frozenfire: Well, I was thinking more about a hardware firewall...14:38
maveasGuys, I'm a total newb to linux - do I understand it right if "make" reads from an install file which tells "make" where all the apps files should be copied to? and how to config the new app?14:38
marcus_frozenfire: you know, a router that comes with a firewall or something.14:38
frozenfiremarcus_: i have no clue proly not tho14:38
adderok, thanks alot14:38
adder:_)14:38
j2daoshmarcus_: nah, if he can chat irc and surf the web, it wouldn't be a hardware firewall i dont think14:38
frozenfiremarcus_: yea i got netgear but it works fine with my other system that has kubuntu as well14:38
basculefrozenfire: I know why, if you manually config the network and have knetwork manager running all the kapps think they are not conected, kill knetwork manager on a manulally configed network it'll work14:38
snikkerbascule: xen support was enabled in "Processor type and features --> Paravirtualized guest support". i've disabled it.. now seem to work. Thank you :)14:39
basculecool, you are welcome :)14:39
marcus_maveas: if you're completely knew, you should try to avoid compiling software for now. Try using .deb files as often as possible.14:39
frozenfirebascule: humm worth a try i guess thanks mate leme try that and see14:39
marcus_maveas: or .rpm files, depending on what you're using.14:40
basculefrozenfire: just right-click quit knetworkmanager thingy in the bar (you probably know this)14:40

marcus_maveas: compiling drivers? Ouch.14:41
basculefrozenfire: however you did it now .. ?14:41
j2daoshwell in order to use make you need to apt-get install build-essential14:41

pgibhooray. I finally get to ask a support question here :-/   I just upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10.  The install seemed to work fine (I used dist-upgrade) however, when it rebooted, the system took me to the CLI15:51
pgibI realized that the path for the default-display-manger was wrong, so I canged /etc/X11/default-display-manager15:52
pgibThen it complained about the theme not being correct. So, I fixed the THEME key in /etc/default/kdm.d/20_kubuntu_default_settings15:53
pgibHowever, now, when I try to start KDE, there is no mouse or keyboard activity, although the keyboard works in the CLI (and Ctrl-Alt-1 works)15:54
pgibI heard I need to install xserver-xorg-input-evdev and -input-synaptic, however when I do that I get the message "dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem."15:55
pgibSo... I run dpkg with those flags, and I get over 200 lines of "dpkg: dependency problems ..." where it complains about a BUNCH of packages being "not configured yet"15:56
pgibwhat am I supposed to do15:56
pgibIt's almost like it didn't finish installing some packages. Any ideas?15:57
