HewBug 302251 is a libcanberra issue on Jaunty that I believe has just been fixed. However, libcanberra-gnome first needs to be manually removed. Is this something that needs to be taken care of by update-manager, or by a Replaces dependency? How should I triage this?05:06

nixternalactually, it never hit me07:31
nixternalit is 1:30 here, and never once did I fall asleep, which is odd for me07:32
nixternaldamn Debian packaging today caused me to stay up07:32
nixternalI will sleep like a baby now here in a bit07:32

macowell i'm looking at dholbach and thekorn and emgent, but then again...i guess they don't do the turkey thing over in euroland07:35
dholbachno :)07:35
macoi didnt eat any turkey, so i'm regular ol' me07:35
macoi fail at being american :P07:36
nixternalheh, my nephew ate turkey and passed out before he even finished his plate07:36
macowow07:36
dholbachsince I was in India, I'm like 99% vegetarian, so I probably wouldn't have dived into the turkey head-first anyway :)07:36
nixternalheh, 99%07:36
jmarsdennixternal: The remaining 1% of him is stainless steel? :)07:37
nixternalI bet07:37
macomy mom convinced me to eat some of the greenbean casserole even though it had *cream* of mushroom soup in it.  -_- i did but jeez, there's a reason i brought non-dairy sour cream and non-dairy butter with me and made sure the mashed potatoes were totally vegan.  my tummy is not happy about that cream of mushroom.07:37
dholbachhaha07:37
nixternalor vinyl07:37

maconixternal: the only thing you care about haha07:38
nixternalI don't drink07:38
nixternaljust water :p07:39
macodude, i met you at OLF07:39
nixternalno you didn't, that was my twin07:39
macoi know you're full of it07:39
macouh huh07:39
nixternaljust cuz I was shootin' tequila at 11am during lunch, doesn't mean I drink07:39
macoi forgot that part07:39
nixternaloh, keep forgetting then07:39
macoi was just thinking about coming back from dinner during the afterparty and seeing you outside going nuts07:39
nixternalbecause it is funny how everyone else remembers that07:39
nixternaloh man, I don't even want to know07:40
macoor the pre-party, with you and jono and dann07:40
nixternalI saw video of me and the after party07:40
nixternalyou can either blame that on jono or dan07:40
nixternalor maddog, since he bought me a few rounds with all of his tickets07:40
maconixternal: you *glomped* jono when i said crimsun was there07:41
nixternalwth is glomped? I am afraid to know I think07:41
macooh, i gave my tickets to jorge, i think07:41
macoa very forceful jump-on hug07:41
nixternaloh lord07:41
maco"jono! daniel chen is here!"07:42
nixternalthat is cuz crimsun has been my IRC homie for like 3 years now07:42
nixternalor longer actually07:42
macoyes, with your sound card issues07:42
nixternaland it is daniel t. chen :p07:42
nixternaldon't forget the t, he might melt07:42
macohahaha well, he's just fine with me calling him just plain "dan" so...07:43
macohe uses the t because chen is like the 2nd most common last name in china, and daniel's not exactly an uncommon name either07:48
nixternalif (!full && time > 01:48) { nixternal->sleep(); std::cout << "Good Night!"; }07:49
* maco snorts LOUDLY07:50
nixternalactually the cout should have come before the sleep(), otherwise it would say good night after I woke up07:50
macoeh whatever, point got through07:50
macoor just claim it was threaded07:50

C0p3rn1can upgrade to the 2.6.24-22-generic kernell messed up my system, my nvidia drivers are not working anymore and my system doesnt boot anymore12:21
C0p3rn1creboot*12:21
ogra2.6.24-22 ? was that moved to hardy-updates already ? (it should only be in proposed for testing purposes yet and be superseded by -23)12:24
C0p3rn1cI'm running 8.0412:26
ograyes, your kernel version indicates that12:26
C0p3rn1cit was an urgent update12:26
ograwhat does: apt-cache policy linux-image-2.6.24-22-generic show ?12:27
C0p3rn1cso something went wrong and now I cant get any work done today untill I get it fixed :(12:27
C0p3rn1c1 moment12:27
C0p3rn1cbtw how do I stop all x servers (Im trying to install my nvidia drivers)12:28
C0p3rn1cagain12:28
BUGabundo_workC0p3rn1c: sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop ??12:29
BUGabundo_workfrom a TTY of course12:29
C0p3rn1cI tried that12:29
C0p3rn1c(I also accedently installed another instance of the x server a while back)12:29
C0p3rn1cwhile running a drivers install program from nvidia12:29
C0p3rn1cpff something is wrong with my internet 1 sec12:30
ograwhy dont you just switch back to 2.6.24-21 ?12:30
ograalso the output of the apt-cache policy command above would be *very* intresting12:30
C0p3rn1cogra: yeah Im kinda new to ubuntu and I dident thought about that untill after I tried to install other nvidia drivers12:31
C0p3rn1cIm currently into the previous kernell12:31
ograright12:31
ograi dont think the  2.6.24-22 is thought for production use12:32
ograbut the at-cache policy command should show where you got it from12:32
C0p3rn1cI cant get my pastebin open :s12:32
C0p3rn1chttp://rafb.net/p/y9NFRf70.html12:33
C0p3rn1c(apt-cache policy linux-image-2.6.24-22-generic)12:33
ograoh, seems you really got it from hardy-updates12:34
C0p3rn1cyes and I suggest that you reverse this because alot of users are going to get into trouble with  this12:34
ogracan you please file a bug about that against the linux package12:34
ograso the uploaders are aware of breakage there12:35
C0p3rn1cogra: ok what should I include?12:35
BUGabundo_workhttps://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux12:35
BUGabundo_workmain         updates         2.6.24-22.45                                                                               main         proposed         2.6.24-23.4612:35
ograwell, describe closely what happened after your upgrade12:35
C0p3rn1cpff this is really a big mistake, it will damadge the reputation of ubuntu, at least it did with me12:35
BUGabundo_work       Published       on 2008-11-2712:36
ograand which version of envyng as well as linux-restricted-modules you use12:36
BUGabundo_work-- Stefan Bader < stefan.bader@canonical.com>   Tue, 18 Nov 2008 17:19:02 +010012:36
ograsince either of tehm ships the nvidia drivers12:36
BUGabundo_workoh I see there 2.6.28 for jaunty12:37
C0p3rn1cenvyng 1.1.112:37
ograyep since some days12:38
BUGabundo_workbut I still don't have them available for install12:38
C0p3rn1cbut normally I run the latest beta drivers12:38
ograprobably didnt build for all arches yet or sit in the NEW queue12:38
C0p3rn1cfrom nvidia12:38
ograwell12:38
Hobbseewell....12:38
ograbeta indicates something, doesnt it ? :)12:38
C0p3rn1cI just started to install other drivers after they dident work anymore12:39
BUGabundo_workthe strangest thing since I have 2.6.28 on my apt-changes log12:39
BUGabundo_workbut it aint on grub or /boot12:39
C0p3rn1cthe first thing I did was to install the stable nvidia drivers12:39
C0p3rn1cthey also dident work12:39
* BUGabundo_work out for lunch12:40
C0p3rn1cthe ones you normally get from "hardware drivers"12:40
C0p3rn1cafter that I tried envyng, and this also failed, and now I was trying to install the latest stable drivers from the nvida website12:41
C0p3rn1cbut I cant seem to kill all my x servers12:41
ograso you installed multiple different nvidia drivers at the sae time ? that sounds like you made quite a mess12:41
C0p3rn1conly one driver can run at the same time right?12:42
C0p3rn1cthe drivers themself always remove previous installed drivers as far as i know12:43
C0p3rn1cso guess I was wrong ?12:44
ograthe nvidia drivers from nvidia do what they like to ... they are not packaged so nothing in your system knows they did replace stuff12:44
ograif yu use packaged drivers replacements should be handled ...12:45
C0p3rn1cah ok12:45
C0p3rn1cif you go to #nvidia the subject of today is  "Ubuntu kernel module problem?  Ask in #ubuntu"12:46
C0p3rn1cso I guess Im not the only one12:46
ograwell, as i said, file a bug, give info so the kernel team knows about it and use -21 in the meantime12:47
C0p3rn1cok12:48
C0p3rn1cfirst I have to fix this low-resolution12:49
C0p3rn1cbbl12:51
C0p3rn1capperently the /etc/init.d/gdm script doesnt stop your x-server while the low-graphics drivers dialog is still displayed on screen13:19
C0p3rn1canyways I'm back to nvidia driver 180.06 and kernell 2.6.24-21-generic and everything works again13:22

raboofI added an insight that seems new to me to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linuxsampler/+bug/252330 , which is marked 'wont fix'21:22
ubottuUbuntu bug 252330 in linuxsampler "[needs-packaging] linuxsampler" [Wishlist,Won't fix]21:22
raboofwhat's the proper way to bring this under the attention again?21:22
mrooneyraboof: well posting the comment and asking here are two good ways!21:25
mrooneypersia, who marked the bug as wontfix, is subscribed so he should see it21:26
raboofok, then it's time for me to be patient i guess :)21:27
mrooneyraboof: he isn't on now but if you don't see a response in a few days you could ping him here on IRC21:27
raboofi'll keep that in mind, thanks. how do I see who marked it wontfix?21:28
raboofoh, the 'activity log'. right :)21:30
