Jared555what do I have to do to get mysql 5.1 installed on ubuntu?  this is NOT a production box so don't say 'you shouldn't do it, it isn't stable'00:14
[Drake]apt-get install mysql00:15
* [Drake] shrug00:15

Jared555Deeps, you know.... I didn't think of google..... it is so much faster to open irc, connect to freenode, ask a question, and probably wait five hours to get a response..... thank you for your mind blowing answer00:19

Jared555hads, I tried asking politely, got the standard 'it isn't stable' response, asked again, got the 'go to google' response (which I had tried, getting a bunch of old responses before mysql 5.1 went GA and with very limited help, hence, my sarcastic response00:21
ivoksJared555: 5.1 isn't supported on ubuntu00:22
ivoksJared555: supported mysql is in ubuntu's archive00:22

Jared555most distros seem to have some form of unstable repository available for people who want to test things, etc.  I thought that MIGHT be the case with ubuntu00:23
[Drake]i hope I don't loose my data lol00:23

ivoksbah... Jared55500:24
ivoksand we do have unstable - jaunty00:24
[Drake]ivoks heh so true I am half tempted to go back fbsd lol00:24
Jared555ivoks, yes, but is it possible to just install one unstable package out of that version?00:27
DeepsJared555: assuming it doesn't depend newer version of packages trhat only feature in unstable, yep00:27
Jared555thank you..... so how would I do such a thing?00:28
DeepsJared555: if newer unstable package depends on other newer unstable packages, then no00:28
Deepseasy way would be to grab the .deb from packages.ubuntu.com, and install using dpkg -i package.deb00:29
Jared555thanks00:30
Deepsthat way would ensure no additional packages are installed from unstable too, but would also complain if the deb in question had unmet dependancies00:30
[Drake]Jared555 yes grab the appripiate package and dependancy and make and install them00:30

nmeanyone noticed newly appeared hardy/intrepid (with ubuntu-desktop installed) in the network which is flooding ARP packets to destination 00:00:00:00:00:00 ? (it seems to be caused by gnome networkmanager)07:21
nmepackets with 00:00:00:00:00:00 as a destination mac address are invalid, am I right? so why Ubuntu sends them?07:21
nmeit might be caused by avahi, but none of my server instances with no X desktop do not cause it07:21

BleupommeI have a very curious situation with ubuntu server and a DELL server. I have connection problems to the server. When I type ifconfig on the console it displays a MAC address of the type aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:d6. but when I type arp -a on a client it displays a mac address of type aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:d3 for the IP of the server. Could anyone tell me what is going on?10:00
Nafalloprobably multiple network interfaces10:00
BleupommeYes there are two network interfaces. One with aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:d6 and the other with aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:d7 not finishing in d310:01
Kamping_KaiserBleupomme, is there a switch/router in the middle?10:02
BleupommeKamping_Kaiser: yes there is a router. It has already been restarted10:03
nmeBleupomme: do pastebin.com of cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules10:11

* Kamping_Kaiser suspects the routers mac addy is being picked up by arp10:15
Bleupommenme: have no access to the server at the moment. Will try to do it soon10:18
Bleupommenme: http://debian.pastebin.com/m1d35c2ca10:20
Bleupommenme: everything seems ok. arp -a on a client gives the same mac adress but with the last byte set to d310:21
Bleupommecould it come from some kind of redundant NIC on the server that has not been picked up by the kernel?10:22
nmeBleupomme: try to setup another IP address on one of the interfaces (in the same subnet), try to contact "client", and then check arp -a on the "client"10:38
Bleupommenme: there is no network collision with that IP address. What makes me sceptic is that the entry in the ARP table is the same as the NIC's Mac addresses except for the last byte. There is no other recent DELL server in the network10:47
nmeyou can flush arp table and watch occurances of this arp through: tcpdump -i eth0 -en10:51
Bleupommenme: could it be some NIC redundancy artefact?11:02
nmeBleupomme: naah11:19
BleupommeI'm going to give up and call DELL support I think11:19
hansinJared555: I saw your question on MySQL 5.1.  I am not sure of this, but the non-RPM tar.gz files might just be an unzip and run kind of thing, but I think you need to add a user and set some permissions.  You might want to do your homework in regards to that because I think I had an issue once with that.  Anyway, the files are here: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html#linux12:27

xenocampanoliIn other words, my definitions in my /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-??? thingy didn't get me all my output, but when I defined a third log file in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, I got the stuff.  What gives?23:16
