technomenschhey rocket, you in?01:51
* Rocket2DMn peeks01:51
technomenschhehe01:51
technomenschhow you be?01:51
Rocket2DMndoin ok, and you?01:52
technomenschsleeping with the devil, my new laptop01:53
technomenschnote to self, and anyone else crazy enough to use gparted to clean up vista. DON'T.01:53
technomenschit looks like I'm finally going to have to create a Vista dual-boot installation guide because the forums are no help when we get stuff like this01:54
technomenschhttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=97756701:54
Rocket2DMndual boots are not hard to setup01:55
technomenschthis is not as easy for <<beep>> https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/switching/installing-partitioning.html01:55
technomenschordiniarly, you'd think01:55
Rocket2DMnso you currently have Ubuntu installed and want to put Vista on it now?01:56
technomenschbut for some reason, the partition tool is not seeing the large 15 gb I left open01:56
technomenschother way around01:56
technomenschthe computer came with vista, partitioned into 3 drives01:56
technomensch10gb of an eisa recovery, 45+ of vista and 45+ of storage01:57
Rocket2DMnok, its easier that way01:57
technomenschit should be01:57
Rocket2DMnwhere do you want your Ubuntu partitions to be01:57
Rocket2DMnhow much space do you want to dedicated to UBuntu and VistA?  Do you want to keep the data partition?01:58
technomenschi wnat it in the 15 gb of free space I created using gparted.01:58
technomenschexcept when I use "guided- use the largest continuous free space", it takes over the whole drive01:58
Rocket2DMndo manual partitioning01:58
Rocket2DMnset your root, swap, and /home if you want01:58
Rocket2DMnyou just gotta partition that 15GBs down into segments01:59
technomenschI must confess, I've never been good at manual partitioning.  I've been spoiled rotten.01:59
technomenschI kinda gathered that based on that comment02:00
Rocket2DMnwell no way to learn like doing it yourself02:00
technomensch::nod::02:00
Rocket2DMni was doing forum support when you messaged me, i dont get to do it much these days02:03
Rocket2DMnshort on time and energy02:03
technomensch::nod:: I hear ya.  I've been so slammed I haven't gotten back to the docs clean up I was doing02:05
technomenschbut at least now I think I can clean up this: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.10/switching/installing-partitioning.html02:06
Rocket2DMnthats an official doc, so you gotta go through more official routes to get tha tupdated02:06
technomensch::nod:::02:06
j1mcanyone thinking of going to this? http://www.writersua.com/ohc/index.html02:06
Rocket2DMnwhat the heck is that? are you spamming us?02:07
j1mcRocket2DMn: heh, no, i'm not spamming you02:07
j1mci'm a member of the ubuntu-doc-committers team on launchpad02:07
j1mci do the docs for xubuntu02:07
Rocket2DMnoh ok, good, b/c i dont have ops in this channel, lol02:08
j1mci was thinking of going to that, and wanted to see if other people were maybe going to that?02:08
j1mcthere is an earlybird registration deadline today02:08
Rocket2DMnnever heard of it02:08
j1mcnp02:09
Rocket2DMni need to get back to doing wiki documentation soon, ive gotten very sidetracked with life02:09
technomenschrocket, you're on planet ubuntu, right?02:10
Rocket2DMnno, i think that is for Ubuntu Members02:10
Rocket2DMnim applying for membership at the next Americas board meeting (whenever that turns out to be)02:11
technomenschnot sure.  the guy who is handling it for the community team had recommended that I use that as a jumping off point for communication.  I say in their meetings at the googleplex02:11
technomenschI mean, saw @ their meeting02:11
technomenschthat they need to improve communications between teams02:12
Rocket2DMni think planet ubuntu is a collection of blogs more or less02:12
Rocket2DMnyeah communication between teams is important, we've done some of that with the Beginners Team02:12
technomenschwell I've always admired what you guys are doing on that team02:12
technomenschdid I tell you I finally heard back from the guy running that hardware website?02:13
Rocket2DMnno, you didnt02:13
Rocket2DMnwhat did you hear?02:13
technomenschthere is a guy on the QA team that is working with cannocial to figure out exactly what to do about the hardware02:14
technomenschso I put him in touch with them and we were doing email conversations for a bit02:14
technomenschcome to think of it, I need to follow up on  that02:14
technomenschI know they've been busy @ can...02:14
technomenschhe did seem interested about wanting to know what could be done to help02:15
technomenscheven though it took about a month or so to hear back from him.  might not be an address he was checking often02:15
Rocket2DMncool, i like to do triage hardware bugs on LP as well, since the kernel team has their triage process well documented02:15
Rocket2DMndo you remember that Foxconn mess last July?02:16
technomenschgroovy02:16

nixternalmdke: I have talked with evand here at UDS about the Ubiquity installer stuff where they wanted some documentation during the install...like 3 sentneces about different areas of Ubuntu while people are doing the install18:04
nixternalI am sure you remember that spec from last year, so it seems they are finally going forward with it...I figured you would probably head up the Ubuntu side of it..I will keep you informed if I find out anything else18:04
nixternalmdke: if you get a chance, could you do one of two things: either 1) add me as an admin to the Ubuntu Core Doc members, or 2) unsubscribe the Ubuntu Core Doc members, or the committers from bug #224971 ... I am tired of receiving those useless updates19:28
