WerenerdIs anyone here familiar with linksys easyadvisor on Windows?00:54
WerenerdThe only thing I am wanting is a graphical representation of computers logged into a home network00:55
WerenerdMy Dad says he can't live without it.00:55
BlueEagleWerenerd: What kind of "home network" are we talking about here? TCP/IP or SMB?01:02
Werenerdtcp01:03
BlueEagleWerenerd: So what you want is a list of computers your DHCP server have given leases to then?01:03
Werenerdyup, thats right01:03
BlueEagle...and turn that into something with pretty images.01:03
Werenerdexactly01:03
WerenerdI don't need it, my dad is used to the linksys easyadvisor and I am trying to convert him01:04
BlueEagleWerenerd: Well I do not know if there are any pre-mades that makes pretty graphics from the leases file, but it's just a matter of reading the leases file and print a pretty picture for every lease with the IP below it.01:05
Werenerdhttp://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/util_get_image/17/0,1425,sz=1&i=177590,00.jpg01:06
Werenerdthat is what he is used to01:06
WerenerdI think it is a neat novelty, but no more useful than the lease file01:07
Unksihow do you change locales on intrepid? sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales doesnt give out any options for switching anymore, just checks if locales are up to date or not01:08
BlueEagleWell it's the leases file combined with some topology awareness, but it's mostly eye candy.01:08
BlueEagleWerenerd: Also, you should advise him that the easyadvisor does not show machines that are connected trough the gateway using a static IP address that has not been assigned by the DHCP server. Nor will the leases file.01:09
WerenerdReally? I did not know that01:09
BlueEagleWerenerd: Well what you could do was look at the arp tables I guess.01:10
WerenerdBlueEagle: Is there an app that I... arp tables?01:10
BlueEagleWerenerd: on the command prompt type: arp01:11
afeijoI installed vmware, but when I click on its icon, it dont open.  Whats wrong?01:11
BlueEagleWerenerd: That will list all active connections I guess.01:12
BlueEagleafeijo: Try starting wmware in a terminal and see if you get any useful error message.01:12
afeijosome errors about GCC_3.4 and similars01:12
afeijoa few libs01:13
WerenerdBlueEagle: all that came back on for me was the router address01:13
BlueEagleafeijo: That's not nearly accurate enough for anyone to be able to debug it.01:13
afeijooh01:13
wallabeei need some help.. everytime i use java oriented page my firefox browser just vanishes anyone know about this or how to fix?01:13
afeijo /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware: /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libgcc_s.so.1/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_3.4' not found (required by /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2)01:13
wallabeei installed the plugins through firefox01:14
BlueEagleWerenerd: Are any other machines than the router connected to the machine you executed arp on?01:14
BlueEagleWerenerd: Because on my server it shows both my workstation and my router.01:15
WerenerdBlueEagle: I am on my laptop (wireless) there is my ps3 (wireless) Wii (wireless) and desktop (wired)01:16
WerenerdShould I have run that from the desktop?01:16
BlueEagleWerenerd: and are they connected to the router or to your laptop?01:16
faileasafeijo: there's a vmware specific channel which may be of help. also vmware what?01:17
afeijovmware server 1.0.801:17
afeijoI found something on google, I'm trying it now01:17
faileasafeijo: hmm, i'm on 2.0. its a lot nicer ;p01:18
WerenerdEverything is given network access via the router01:18
afeijoit worked :)01:18
faileasthey dumped the console for a firefox plugin01:18
BlueEagleWerenerd: Then you need to check the routers arp tables.01:18
afeijowell, I will try the new version, but now I just need to open a vm01:18
BlueEagleWerenerd: Because all your laptop ever needs to know about is the devices it is connected to itself.01:18
wallabeeif i disable the GCJ web browser plugin 0.96.1 i can view the webpage without it killing itself but then no java of course01:18
BlueEagleWerenerd: Have you tried running the easyadvisor in wine or mono?01:19
Werenerdnope. I try not to use windows apps at all personally. I could try it, but I would rahter not01:20
BlueEagleWerenerd: Well if a windows app does a particular job and there are no replacements availible in Linux and this is an app that is critical for the migration of a user then I see no problem in running said app trough a compatibility layer or even emulator.01:21
BlueEagleWerenerd: Easyadvisor is a highly specialized propriatory (or how that is spelt) piece of software and odds are that it uses some custom format when communicating with the router so making a generic replacement is difficult.01:22
WerenerdI agree if there is nothinng comparable. But there has to be something out there! I use one or two window apps myself. But they were purposefully developed with wine in mind. so I don't feel so dirty!01:23
Werenerdyou are probably right, i had not thought about the proprietary nature of the router01:23
BlueEagleWerenerd: No, there doesn't have to be something out there. Simply because this is an application that works only with routers of one make, and I would assume that it only works with a limited number of models and above that, it's mostly useless.01:24
BlueEagleWerenerd: The big "Linksys" logo should have been a clue. ;)01:24
Werenerdlol, yeah i know01:25
BlueEagleWerenerd: You could write Linksys and ask them to make a KDE-version of that tool tho. :)01:25
Werenerdwouldn't that be a hoot if they actually replied or even listened? Be a first.01:26
WerenerdBlueEagle: thanks for the help01:28
BlueEagleWerenerd: I really didn't help much I guess. ;) I should probably be thanking you for listning to my views. hehe. But you are most welcome.01:29

kevin__that xserver reconfigure might have changed comething because the taskbar spans the entire screen now03:17
kevin__well when i hit display butten in settings03:17

kevin__and it scrambled03:18
kevin__then i hard reset it03:18

kevin__well i am HIGHLY appriciative of the responses03:19
kevin__but i was going quickly03:19
kevin__what should i try now i would like to look at the display settings after the reset but what do you think i should do03:19
geniikevin__: At any rate if your graphical system is usable again, you can go from there to try and set it how it's supposed to end up03:20
geniikevin__: So curently your resolution is acceptable?03:20
kevin__and the thing that doesnt look like a mouse was after i clicked display before the hard reboot, the screen was like stretched out 4 miles long then run at a 15 degree upward slope and the mouse is just a smal line withing the long bar that was my display03:21
kevin__it appears to be so, let me check the settings03:21
radlipatok for flash install what version do i use03:22
geniikevin__: Also re: waiting for replies... if you are talking with a specific person, put their name at the start of your message to them. Otherwise if they are in some other channel, they have no idea anyone is talking to them03:22
kevin__ok i see what you are saying03:24

lodifor the wep key19:17
Mamaroklovre: once installed, you just log out and choose a different session: kde-nightly (Neon)19:17
lodiand it worked19:17
lodinow I couldnt see my wifi net at all19:17
Mamaroklovre: it will not change your current installation, and works very well here :)19:17
