cuzntand register for an addy00:47
cuzntits free btw00:47
cuznti have a couple... you can make it point to an application on your pc. so for me I have bewofthe.no-ip.org as an update client linking my pc to root servers then i must open a port on my firewall  to allow it to allow it to update00:49
cuzntissacj87 is sounds difficult but really is not00:49
cuzntand i got no-ip2 on my kde through my repositories00:50
cuzntit is a Dynamic DNS Update Clients00:50
cuzntand then you register for an account00:50
cuzntand the client on your pc hooks up to it.. bling bling...00:51
cuznti am not sure if you both can hook up to each other at the same time00:51

etfbEvery time I wake my laptop (Kubuntu, Hardy) from Suspend mode, it flashes up a message before it restores the X server: "i8042 aux 00:09 activation failed".  What the *&%$@ does that mean???01:54
jsuniodid you google it?01:54
etfbjsunio: Yep, and all the links seem to be related to keyboards not working, but mine works fine.01:54
jsunioWhat happens if you unplug keyboard and wake it from suspend mode01:54
etfbjsunio: It's a laptop; I can't unplug the keyboard.01:55
etfb(Well, not without a chisel...)01:55
jsunioWhat is i8042?01:56
etfbSomething keyboard related.  I was hoping someone here knew.01:56
jsuniobrb01:57
jsunioDo you think its hardware or OS?01:59
jsunioI see the same problem happening on ubuntuforums.org01:59
jsuniodoes the touchpad work after resuming?02:01
jsuniowhat kernel version are you using02:01
etfbjsunio: Evidence suggests it's a Hardy problem, since I don't recall it happening with Gutsy and suspend is otherwise working perfectly (if a bit slowly, but that's Ubuntu).02:02
etfbChecking kernel version (but it'll be the latest 8.04 one._02:03
jsunioOh hmm how does it compare to:  2.6.17-8.2202:03
jsunio(It looks like an open bug)02:03
jsuniohttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/5986702:04
jsuniosomeone mentioned using latest kernel 2.6.17-8.22 but I don't know if it then works02:04
etfbjsunio: Grub seems to be booting 2.6.24-22-generic02:05
jsunioetfb: did you say that you upgraded to a newer of version of kubuntu (sorry I dont know the nicknames) and it stopped working?02:06
etfbFunny thing is: the synaptic touchpad works fine, the keyboard is OK, the only symptom is the message. I've learned to be careful about apparently-harmless warning messages, or else I wouldn't bother...02:06
etfbjsunio: Hardy Heron = 8.04, Gutsy Gibbon = 7.10.  On Hardy, the warning appears.  On Gutsy, I'm pretty sure it didn't.02:07
jsunioOk so its a new bug02:07
etfbThe bug you linked to has the same warning, but is otherwise unrelated.02:08
etfbI suspect the touchpad problem is not related to the message.02:09
etfbAh well, I'll shelve it for now.  A warning with no errors is hardly the biggest worry.  When I upgrade to Intrepid Ibex, maybe that will fix it.02:09
jsunioHere is another one https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/23872802:10
jsunioYep. I would do the same...02:10
etfbjsunio: I found that one too.  In both cases, the logic seems to be 1. I get this keyboard problem, 2. I get this message, therefore 3. They must be related.  Since I get #2 and not #1, I think #3 must be false.  Hope so, anyway.02:11
jsunioOh Interesting, it says there (though I didnt actually see it myself) that 2.6.27 kernel fixes #1 (maybe #2)02:12
jsunioI'm running 2.6.22-1402:12

Any idea on how to fix this: Ps: What is the best way to create a VPN in ubuntu that is compatible with the iphone/ipod touch? Thanks05:40
alakhiadoes anyone have recommendations on what to use to manage my finances? I tried using kmymoney2 for half an hour and it is horrible05:58
Mamarokalakhia: why do you find it horrible?06:02
Mamaroktoo complex maybe?06:02
Mamarokthen gnucash is not a solution neither06:03
alakhiaMamarok: well, i exported my data from the bank to an OFX file06:04
\Kiraanybody have any experience with krecordmydesktop? After I record and select a destination to record to, the icon turns gray and wont respond. Not really sure whats going on...06:04
alakhiaMamarok: now, everything is in blinking red text06:04
alakhiaMamarok: i read the faq and it says i need to categorize my entries06:05
Mamarokalakhia: yes, of course, else it will not work correctly06:05
alakhiaMamarok: so, I tried to search by my payroll company06:05
alakhiaMamarok: i figured I'll select them all and set the category06:06
alakhiaMamarok: i can't select all of them ... have to do it manually06:06
alakhiaone by one06:06
Mamarokalakhia: you should ask the kmymoney2 folks on their forum06:06
alakhiawhere would that be? are they on irc?06:06
Mamarokalakhia: well, that's how accounting works, there's a lot of setup to do on your side I'm afraid06:06
alakhiaMamarok: i don't mind the setup ... but when I select the category for a few items, it still shows up as red06:07
Mamarokalakhia: check here: http://forum.kde.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=69,06:07
alakhiathat leaves me with little faith06:07
Mamarokdon't know of a particular channel on irc06:07

Mamarokalakhia: you have to build your categories first, then import your data I would say...06:08
alakhiawell, i already found categories for payroll06:08
alakhiahere's another funny thing06:09
alakhiaif i do: edit splits and enter a category, close and then come back, the category is gone06:09
alakhiaand the entire amount again shows up as uncategorized06:10
Mamarokalakhia: what version do you unse, 0.9.2 or 0.8?06:11
Mamarok*use06:11
alakhia0.8.806:11
Mamarokhm, you really should ask on their forum, that's where the devs are06:11
alakhiaMamarok: oh, i figured it out. I need to click on the "Enter" button06:11
alakhiaif i just hit enter, it doesn't get saved06:12
Mamarokwell, of course, you have to validate the entries :)06:12
alakhiabut if i hit enter, shouldn't it do something sane like as if i hit the "enter" button06:12
Mamarokthat's a bug then, if the enter key is not set, go to their forum!06:12
alakhiaok, it sounds like that's what I will do06:12

The window itself is still drawn by the cpu (mostly) and during resize I get some moderate cpu usage as it redraws my window. But nothing extreme and I don't have super laggy redrawing, just sort of laggy redrawing.15:17
astrommefunbitz1: It was a new Ubuntu 8.10 install that I've upgraded to the jaunty alphas. Both worked fine with my nvidia card.15:17

WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, i'm just going to be moving this drive between a couplle of computer of my own15:57
WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, and using it as backup15:57
CrazyKlompjesalright, then 777 makes sense :)15:58
CrazyKlompjesmine is on the same setting(and I'm basically the only one that uses it)15:58
WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, how did it get changed? All i've ever done is just plug this in and drop stuff on it. Now it's telling me I don't have premission15:58
CrazyKlompjesdid you format the drive before you used it or no?15:59
CrazyKlompjesI have it -sadly-on fat32 as I have some game saves on it-15:59
WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, yes. Brand new, broke up a couple of partitions and formatted the whole thing15:59
WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, I put a 1% (smallest I could) fat 32 - and put the ext3 windows drivers on there, so i can install them on any Winders computer I run across16:00
Walzmynerr, fat32 partition16:00
CrazyKlompjesvery smart of you-guess I need to do that-16:00
CrazyKlompjesusually I prefer one huge partition though on my external drive- :) but well-16:01
CrazyKlompjeshave you checked their current permissions?16:01
CrazyKlompjesif it's still the same as you always have had it-16:01
WalzmynCrazyKlompjes, that's what I have - one huge partition ... and one little bitty one16:01
CrazyKlompjesthat makes 2 ;-)16:02
CrazyKlompjeshaha16:02
WalzmynI know16:02
Walzmynbut I do have one huge one16:02

WalzmynYeah, iv'e got 1.5 gigs of pictures moving as we type16:03
CrazyKlompjescool-16:03
WalzmynI guess when I was setting all this up I had something opened though sudo and forgot it.16:03

CrazyKlompjestzd: I don't use bluetooth though, never tried it(even though my laptop has it). It does need to be easier I have to agree---> maybe in Kde 4.3 or 4.4 they will start adding more features to things(to simplify a few things that is)16:10
CrazyKlompjesKDE 4.1 was making everything stable-16:10
CrazyKlompjesnot sure what KDE 4.2 will bring(hopefully, more apps and such-or stabler apps)16:10
hazzyArg, I miss the KDE icon for the Kmenu. I don't like the arrow.16:11
tzdyeah. I Think a bit more ppl will join the "light" side when things are more simple.16:11
tzdhmm "bright" side is probably a more suitable word ;P16:11
andrew_Hello. Please help me with my TV tuner. TVtime starts but seems like it cannot switch channels, just plays at.16:13
CrazyKlompjestzd:haha-light on hardware(more than 3.5 or so). But I dont want it to be sooooo simplistic it makes it hard to use(or have fun with it)-16:14
CrazyKlompjesGNOME for example--is too simplistic16:14
CrazyKlompjesI feel "dumb" when using it16:14
tzdCrazyKlompjes: yeah i completely get what you mean :) I think there should be a "hidden" advanced mode so that skilled people can modify as they wish and then the less skilled people can access the basic stuff16:16
CrazyKlompjesyep-true :) even though I use all the options from the menus and such(details and so). Just love the look of KDE and the ability to split a screen with ctrl-alt-shift-left arrow and such :D16:17
CrazyKlompjesSo16:18
tzdHehe that was a new cmd :) Didn't work here though... a kde4 cmd perhaps?  Anyway, as much as i enjoy talking kde/linux i still have to get back and ruin my Saturday with some ITIL studying :P16:19
