[03:19] Hello all of launchpad. I would need to check the suitability of a project for launchpad. Anyone there who could help? [03:20] s//would [03:21] ping BjornT [03:24] ping: NextHop__ [03:29] mn: you probably won't get an answer today, it's still a public holiday in a lot of placs. [03:29] *places [03:29] Hobbsee: that's true. maybe you could help? [03:30] mn: possibly, but somewhat unlikely [03:32] I am proposing a project that would be dedicated to creating packages for making Ubuntu a clone of the latest windows operating system and .iso live/install CDs of these clones. Is this a suitable project? [03:33] * Hobbsee blinks [03:33] lol [03:33] it probably is [03:33] :D I hope [03:33] although i have absolutely no idea of how you intend to go about doing that [03:42] Hobbsee: Why? [03:44] Hobbsee: Merry Christmas, incidentally. [03:44] RAOF_: merry christmas to you too! [03:45] mn, Have you considered ReactOS? Might be better to help there than to start a new project. [03:46] persia: haven't even heard of it. I will check it though. Do you think my project would be acceptable though? [03:47] mn, As a concept, if it's free software, yes. I wouldn't expect you to be successful in making Ubuntu a Windows clone due to kernel differences: ReactOS is really the project you want to chase. [03:48] Since you don't know, ReactOS is basically a lower-level version of the Wine project; it's building an open-source Windows. [03:49] oh, interesting! [03:49] * Hobbsee wonders how successful it is [03:49] * RAOF_ points at Wine as a likely proxy. [03:49] persia: I want a GUI clone. I am shooting for a Ubuntu OS with the GUI of the latest Windows OS [03:50] Mmm, delicious Margaret River wine! [03:50] * Hobbsee notes there used to be an XP theme for kde. [03:50] (community done) [03:50] mn, You don't need a project for that: just use the right KDE theme (which probably already exists). [03:52] persia: I have several packages installed in Gnome which make the GUI of Vista. I want a project with a single package and install script to make the transition easier. I also want the project to make .iso liveCDs with installation. Fruitless project? [03:54] mn, Mostly. [03:54] Ah, well I guess I'll try it [03:54] Having a meta-package in Ubuntu is probably a better way to manage the installation of stuff. [03:54] LP won't build isos, so you'd need your own infrastructure for that. [04:00] persia: how would I go about the meta-package for ubuntu? [04:00] mn, That's really more a question for #ubuntu-motu, but you'd probably want to start by looking at some of the existing metapackages. [04:01] mk ty [05:24] hey [09:56] is there anyone about [09:57] Anyone of importance who can fix things, or just anyone at all? :P [09:57] i kinda uploaded something with an ugly version, which has been commited also my signature identity i changed it to Full Name [09:57] and yeah now i want to make sure i get rid of the fugly mistake i made [09:57] something i can't do ;) [09:58] What do you mean? You want to delete a branch? Undo commits? [09:58] yeah delete my commit [09:58] https://launchpad.net/~dcecchin/+related-software [09:58] nobody knows about it except for me [09:58] so it won't break anyone :) [09:58] ah, but now we do! ;) [09:58] shhh [09:58] Not commit: upload. [09:59] ah thanks persia sorry... im a newb to this launchpad :P [09:59] so much more... featureful than... aur ever was [09:59] or submitting things in random bugs on a gentoo bugtracker lol === _neversfelde is now known as neversfelde === ursula_ is now known as Ursinha [14:29] any administrators about? [14:31] i kind of made a screw up with my naming scheme, and well now it won't let me upload anything [14:31] it successfully uploads, but i get no email [14:32] if it's accepted [14:32] or rejected [14:32] my ppa is: https://launchpad.net/~dcecchin/+ppa-packages [15:05] How do I upload a binary, a deb, pre-compiled, to a launchpad PPA? I don't have a .changes file [15:08] ramvi: you don't [15:09] ramvi: the whole point of PPA, is that it compiles your sources packages in a clean environment, for both i386 _and_ amd64 [15:09] what if I have my own repository. how do I upoload a precompiled deb? [15:09] ramvi: your own repository is your own problem... PPA doesn't have anything do to with your own repositories [15:10] ramvi: settings up your own repository is a whole different matter [16:30] lo, is there a way to see what hwtest-gtk sends to launchpad? [16:34] pmjdebruijn, yeah, there is a URL /+hwdb or something like that [16:38] it seems that's only for uploading... === fawek is now known as fawek|away === fawek|away is now known as fawek === glade88 is now known as glade88|AFK === nhandler_ is now known as nhandler
