[00:13] Hey, i have a problem with X, no driver is installed, vesa, nv, etc. and i cant installed them with apt-get because i get no candidate found. is this a known problem and is there anything i can do? [00:18] nvm, i tried to install xserver-xorg-driver, i should have installed xserver-xorg-video* [00:32] has anybody gotten the nvidia driver to work with jaunty? [00:32] I use the open-source drive [00:32] driver [00:33] I have not tried any of the restricted drivers [01:03] how can I send the commandline output of a GUI program to a file? [01:06] cmd > file [01:08] bardyr: that's what I though... doesn't seem to work for workrave [01:10] doesn't work for digikam either [01:14] cause it's stderr, not stdout [01:16] answer: command 2> file [01:23] has anybody gotten nvidia-glx-180 to work? when i install it, i get errors that truetype and type1 does not exist [02:45] bardyr: hmm? you shouldn't be getting those errors regardless what Nvidia version is used [02:46] crimsun, installing nvidia-glx-180 is removing xserver-xorg and friends [02:47] bardyr: that's known. the current Nvidia drivers are only compatible with version 1.5 of the x window system server abi [02:47] bardyr: the current x window system server's abi is 1.6 === crdlb_ is now known as crdlb [02:48] -ignoreABI seems to make it work, but i did get those errors [02:48] it doesn't really work; you're just telling the driver that you don't mind instability [02:48] crimsun, so, is there anyway to get them to work? [02:49] bardyr: not until Nvidia releases a newer set of drivers fully compatible with the 1.6 abi [02:49] or do i need to wait for a new release from nvidia [02:49] kk' [02:49] you can continue to use that ignore parameter with the current jaunty xserver-xorg-* packages, but there're known instability and crashing points [03:55] does 9.04 have any fun features yet? [03:55] or is it just version refreshes [04:08] hey everyone. hardware specs out for 'jaunty' yet? [04:11] hey jtisme [04:15] i have a ubuntu server question. [04:15] about 64bit dual core support [04:17] * stan is enthralled in suspense. [04:59] hey people.. anyone tried the new 2.6.28-4 kernel yet on?? [04:59] yes, WFM [05:01] crimsun [05:01] crimsun: did it break ur system? [05:02] or does it work fine? [05:02] WFM == works for me [05:02] so, no regressions from -3.4 [05:03] crimsun: thanks.. im currently upgrading to the 4.. update in progress.. [05:03] sean_aus: you're addressing me in both #ubuntu and here [05:03] that's not really necessary [05:03] okay.. im new to IRC.. no idea what im doing.. :P [05:06] i know it's almost impossible at this stage.. but just asking if you have any ideas.. [07:58] hi [07:58] will texlive be updatedt for jaunty? [07:59] texlive 2008 was released in september, but wasn't included in intrepid and has not included into jaunty yet ... [07:59] soc, you can fill a bug report for that [08:00] file* [08:01] ah k ... [08:01] against texlive? [08:03] yes, with tag: needs-update [08:04] x1250: mhhh seems that texlive 2008 isn't in debian yet ... [08:06] soc, I guess that shouldn't be a problem since texlive is in jaunty/main, but you never know. [08:09] ok, i updated that bug with needs-update: [08:09] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/texlive-base/+bug/287502 [08:10] Ubuntu bug 287502 in texlive-base "please package TeXLive 2008" [Undecided,New] [08:44] hi [08:44] another thing: [08:45] does someone know if there is some work done on gnome-appearance-properties? [12:59] hmmm, i don't know for sure. i can tell you what version i have right now [13:00] soc: i have libqt-4.3 [13:01] i would guess that when jaunty is closer to completion. which won't be until april, it will have 4.4 by then [13:01] soc: wait! [13:01] i was wrong.... [13:02] soc: apparently the version is already 4.4 [13:02] soc: ii libqtcore4 4.4.3-2ubuntu1 [13:03] doh! i'm a goofball, just woke up and not reading question well enough [13:03] it has 4.4 and i would guess that by release time it will have 4.5 [13:17] ahh sounds good [13:17] hopefully the font rendering respects the system wiede settings then ... [13:18] soc: yeah, i have no idea about that, but i hear you [13:19] soc: are you using jaunty at all? [13:19] soc: i just installed it yesterday [13:19] one system with jaunty, one with intrepid [13:20] the qt-big together with that gnome-bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-control-center/+bug/269920 make the whole font rendering a whole mess [13:20] Ubuntu bug 269920 in gnome-control-center "gnome-font-viewer missing in gnome-control-center" [Low,Triaged] [13:20] roger. both intrepid and jaunty on same hard drive here [13:20] oops wrong one [13:20] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/200707 [13:20] Ubuntu bug 200707 in libcairo "fontconfig does not honor hintslight, hintmedium, hintfull" [Unknown,Confirmed] [13:21] oh, i see [16:13] hi [16:13] has anyone probs with firefox too? [17:26] Solly, I mean encrypted swap/home === Daviey_ is now known as Daviey [18:55] guys did the mozillateam changed FF to FF3.1 in jaunty?? [18:56] I can't start FF3.0.5 even when using firefox-3.0 [19:03] BUGabundo: is not FF firefox? [19:05] haven't download any new dailies since A1 [19:05] I did an install yesterday [19:05] I don't either [19:05] but I can't start it AFTER opening a FF3.1 === jussio1 is now known as jussi01 [21:33] is jaunty much different from intrepid yet? [21:39] not much mn [21:39] some newer versions [21:40] and a really new kernel [21:40] ah [21:40] do you think it would be ok to install it to a separate dedicated partition or should i install it on a computer by itself [21:50] yeah, but sometimes it doesn't work. It would create a pen of Puppy [21:51] What is the files that the updater uses for sources i can't remember. [21:51] yeah it happened with some [21:51] its beeing fixed [21:51] or you can use the latest syslinux to make it boot correctly [21:52] I used unetbootin [21:53] yeah [21:53] anoter choice [21:57] mn: you mean /etc/apt/sources.list? [21:57] yeah that's it ty groensal_ [21:58] nps [23:36] Quick question, what version does update-manager -d bring you to, the very latest builds, or the last release/alpha 2? [23:36] whatever's currently in the archive/pool [23:36] so, probably even newer than the daily{,-live} [23:37] it's essentially "apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade" with a lot more logic to "do the right thing"s with third-party repos [23:37] Thanks, doing it now. The daily crashed on install with a black screen. [23:37] where during the install did it crash? [23:39] It went to the Ubuntu splash screen, took a long time, ~5 minutes, with the animation still moving. Then black screened with no error/warning. [23:41] FWIW it is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Sa 3650 notebook (AMD 780GM chipset) with the external GPU (XGP in AMD parlance). I don't think the XPG module is released yet, but I am pretty sure the notebook itself is [23:42] And now the update failed. :( Can't access two of the repositories. I have been having network wierdnesses all day, so it is probably that. [23:43] Sigh. The universe is getting it's revenge on me today.
