savvasif the maintainer of a package is the ubuntu desktop team, do I subscribe the main sponsors or the universe sponsors group when I provide a debdiff/fix?00:06

blueyeddirew0lf: done.02:38
direw0lfThx02:39
direw0lfquestion: Should a feature request for an upstream application (in this case, a gnome applet) be forwarded to the upstream bug tracker, or placed on our own wishlist?03:05
macodirew0lf: yeah, forward it03:05
direw0lfthx03:07
tcolegenerally we try to upstream stuff when it is reasonable to do so03:12
direw0lfI was looking at the gnome bugtracker and they don't seem to have a category for enhancements03:13
direw0lfnm...found it.03:15
direw0lfI think it is time for a drink. :)03:15

jarlathCan someone advise me what to add to this report so it's status can be moved on from Incomplete? https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/30669207:55
jarlathThe effect of this bug is a serious problem for me that effects all the users in our business and I'm sure is a problem for others who rely on Evolution for calendaring also.07:55
ubottuUbuntu bug 306692 in evolution "Evolution won't display offline calendars when offline" [Low,Incomplete]07:55
Hobbseejarlath: that looks like enough to me.07:57

MrKanisterI was about to make a small debdiff to fix a typo in "ubuntu-docs". Now I am confused because in the changelog there is no <version>-ubuntu1. the last versions are just  8.10.2, 8.10.1, 8.09.2, 8.09.1, etc. So what version shall I give the fixed package?20:25
hggdhMrKanister, what version did you base the diff on?20:26
MrKanisteron the latest in Jaunty (8.10.2)20:27
hggdhthen base it on 8.10.2. It should be OK20:27
MrKanisterso I just add a 0-ubuntu1 ? (as dch -i suggests)20:28
MrKanisteri mean -0ubuntu120:29
hggdhyes, for example. Did you propose the patch upstream?20:29
MrKanisternot yet20:29
hggdhhuh, my bad, ubuntu-docs is ours...20:30
MrKanisterthats the problem :)20:30
hggdhthen you can just send in the diff; the maintainer can then decide on which version it will build (it will probably be 8.10.3, or something like it)20:31
hggdh0ubuntu1 (and similar is for our changes to upstream20:32
MrKanisterhggdh: Thanks. A diff was already there (bug #285484). I thought making a debdiff could help having less work, but seems I should take another bug20:33
ubottuLaunchpad bug 285484 in ubuntu-docs "Typo in serverguide" [Low,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/28548420:33
hggdhis your diff about the same issue?20:35
MrKanisterYes. I was looking for some low hanging fruit. And fixing typos in packages seemed a good start.20:36
MrKanisterI made a small debdiff for another package and it got uploaded to jaunty within hours :)20:37
hggdhthen you have two options: (1) if you are changing part of the other diff, then add an updated diff to the bug; (2) if you are dealing with a different aspect, add a new diff20:39
MrKanisterI didn't want to change something because the patch works fine. I just wanted to make a debdiff that can directly be applied to the latest package and probably uploaded to Jaunty. The problem is the versioning20:42
hggdhah, OK20:43
hggdhyou can then make it for 8.10.3, and propose20:43
MrKanisterOk, thanks a lot. That was what I needed :)20:44
LupineThis should be a WishList: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/31317321:57
ubottuUbuntu bug 313173 in openoffice.org "impress depends on draw" [Undecided,New]21:57
crimsunLupine: done22:00
Lupineanybody have a default/stock response (or common practice) of asking a bug reporter to update to latest stable Ubuntu and try the issue again?22:08
Lupineor is the practice discouraged, and we should really try to duplicate their issue on let's say a VirtualBox install of older Ubuntu versions?22:09
hggdhLupine, if the issue was on a quite old release, then yes, we might ask to try on an up-to-date22:10
hggdhuse, for example, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Old%20untouched%20bugs22:10
Lupineeven if it's not "that" old...8.04 for example?22:11
hggdhhum. Can you reproduce it?22:11
Lupinenope22:11
Lupineand that link of responses is GREAT btw, thanks!  I've been looking for something just like this22:12
hggdhwhat is the bug?22:12
Lupinehttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/31293122:12
ubottuUbuntu bug 312931 in gnome-control-center "gnome-appearance-properties crashes when the image is not of the expected format" [Undecided,New]22:12
crimsunLupine: i normally ask them to reproduce on a live cd of jaunty22:23
hggdhhum. Opened it, and got mesself a sigsegv...22:23
Lupinecrimsun, thx I'll make a note of that, and keep that in mind22:24
hggdhand it would be good to have a stacktrace also22:24
Lupinehggdh, that's weird, and you are running 8.10?22:24
hggdhI am running Jaunty22:26
hggdhbut I do not know what caused the segv, I just opened it and went to arrière-plan22:26
hggdhdarn! apport is broken!22:27
hggdhOK, I am retracing it locally.22:29
Lupinewhat exactly is the PNG -> JPG file he/you are using that causes it to crash?22:30
Lupineguess that's why I can't dup it22:30
hggdhheh... none at all...  literally22:31
Lupineso weird22:31
hggdhI had the 3 that come standard22:31
Lupinethx for the link though, will help out for future bugs22:32
hggdhOK. the one I was using was a single-colour black22:32
hggdhbut it is shown as "no image" (aucune papier peint)22:33
hggdhLupine, I tried with a bad jpeg, and did not get an error22:54
Lupinesounds like I should just ask the reporter to try and dup it with an up to date LIVE CD22:55
