[00:40] I think this should be pretty easy for someone with a bit of experience... When I first installed Ubuntu the graphics were pretty good but I wanted to use the 3d acceleration of my NVIDIA card. After installing the drivers that the hardware drivers screen brought up I restarted and lost all UI. I googled the situation and found lots of people with similar problems and eventually figured out how to get it to at least give me back the UI, [00:40] but I'm stuck with a much worse resolution than the default installation had. I never thought to make a backup of xorg.conf. Can anyone help me find a way to make ubuntu revert back to the original settings? [00:40] I can get music from rhythm box [00:40] but no where else [00:40] nickrud i will check that file [00:41] hello [00:41] TiZ, Any kind of drive connected to a $15 usb adapter will work for your needs [00:41] Jack_Sparrow: all_generic_ide before the -- made no difference [00:41] is this where we go for support? [00:41] yes [00:41] oskar-: Gateway is who made my laptop. Seagate did the hard drive. I'm not looking for people to make decisions for me. I tried to write a script for /etc/init.d/my.script but the rules are way more rigid than in gentoo and it simply does not work [00:43] ActionParsnip, I'll give it a try....thank man! [00:43] nickrud i will add some user to try [00:43] why my squid get errors when load on boot? [00:43] -_- [00:43] soreau: you could log in as root but it will compromise your system security greatly [00:43] so will windows 7 kill of linux lol [00:43] everyone is a bot [00:43] soreau: once your system is setup you rarely use sudo [00:43] ActionParsnip: Are you crazy man? [00:43] are there any free people who wouldn't mind helping me? [00:43] mib_... I'm not a bot, hang on, I might be able to help [00:43] !ask Invisoman [00:43] Sorry, I don't know anything about ask Invisoman [00:43] !ask | Invisoman [00:43] Invisoman: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). It's recognized at the bios/controller level, can't get it seen in Ubuntu [00:45] just out of curiosity, why is it that "paste" in terminal is not ctrl+v like verywhere else? [00:45] mib_ so the problem is you don't get the list of "start linux", "start windows", etc... when you first start up? maybe try pressing F8 repeatedly at start up, if you see the loading winxp, obviously it failed [00:45] anyone know how to set up audio so it works in all apps, not just rhythm box? [00:45] soreau: im saying its an option [00:45] No it isn't [00:45] i tried the f8 [00:45] Ever [00:45] it just skips the windows boot manager and goes straight to vista [00:45] soreau: well it is as it CAN be done. Its just not advised [00:46] k, then let me throw a monitor on my other box (was trying to figure out my problem with it connected to this one) and see if I can find the answer [00:46] soreau: you can use UIDS to make certain apps not need sudo [00:46] soreau: why are you so averted to using sudo? [00:46] Surprise, cockfags! [00:46] nickrud oh man, its work! thank you :D [00:47] All's I want to do is add a script to be run as root when ubuntu boots. In gentoo, it's as simple as adding a script in /etc/init.d to the default runlevel. For ubuntu, it complains there is no LSB style header and doesn't work at all [00:47] !ops Lando-SpacePimp [00:47] Error: I am only a bot, please don't think I'm intelligent :) [00:47] !startup | soreau [00:47] soreau: To add programs to start up when you log into your Gnome session go to System>Preferences>Sessions and use the Startup Programs tab.
