Rocket2DMnok guys, so i have a bug 32261001:25
ubottuLaunchpad bug 322610 in gnome-power-manager "Screen brightness not 100% at boot or resume from monitor sleep" [Low,Incomplete] https://launchpad.net/bugs/32261001:25
Rocket2DMnbrightness works correctly by default in the older kernel01:25
Rocket2DMnwhen running lshal in the two kernels, the older kernel shows two entries for udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight'01:26
Rocket2DMnthe newer kernel only shows one01:26
Rocket2DMndo we have a hal or kernel problem?01:26
cprofittmaybe the question scared them all in to quitting?01:29
* cprofitt smiles01:29
Rocket2DMni hope not, im leaning toward kernel, but id like somebody to disagree with me just to make this rollercoaster even better :)01:30
cprofittWas hal included in the updates with the Kernel?01:30
cprofittif not... not sure how it could be the hal01:30
Rocket2DMnno, you can attach the term.log i had you pastebin if you want01:32
cprofittk01:34
cprofittrocket where is that log again?01:35
Rocket2DMn/var/log/apt01:35
cprofittits saying the log is empty...01:38
cprofittnvm -- it was 'rights' issue01:39
cprofittRocket2DMn, is that it... we can triage and pass to the kernel dev team to take a look01:40
Rocket2DMncprofitt, im on the phone, ill finish in a few01:42
cprofittk01:42
cprofittgotta go Rocket2DMn be back at 10pm EST if you need further information to get this move up the chain01:54
Rocket2DMnok cprofitt , im doing the triage right now01:54

Rocket2DMnagh i didnt ask for dmesg!01:55
Rocket2DMnwth01:55
Rocket2DMnill ask for it, go do what oy uneed to do01:55
cprofittyou want it from this kernel or the new one?01:56
Rocket2DMnlets do both since youre in the old one now01:56
Rocket2DMnlet me ask in the report first01:56
cprofittuploading now01:59

cprofittcool...03:37
cprofittman that bug I posted above made me tired tonight03:37
cprofittI got rocket a ton of files for it...03:37
cprofittI guess learning these bug things will just take some time03:39
hggdhyes, it does03:43
hggdhbut the payback is good: you get to be better at this03:43
cprofitthggdh, half the stuff he was asking for I had no clue it existed...03:43
cprofittyeah... it took me several years to get good at Windows... this should be easier since I can actually see the code and the errors03:44
cprofittand I do not get some meaningless error code that resulted from a lazy programmer not putting in the proper exception handling03:44
hggdhwell.. this also happens, but at least you can look at the source03:48

LaibschHi04:00
LaibschI'm working on bug 322565.  Can somebody please help me understand why I cannot convert it into a question?04:00
ubottuLaunchpad bug 322565 in linux "Key problem relating to Deluge ppa" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/32256504:00
charlie-tcaLaibsch: you can not convert an invalid status. Change it back to new first.04:19
LaibschThe bug is not valid for linux04:19
LaibschIt is a valid question for deluge04:20
LaibschBut deluge does not use Launchpad Answers04:20
charlie-tcaIt will change it to invalid when you convert it. If you want to convert it, it can not be invalid first.04:20
LaibschWhich is why I cannot convert it04:20
Laibschcharlie-tca: The ticket is not a valid question for linux04:20
charlie-tcaThen you can not convert it.04:20
LaibschIt would be a valid question for deluge04:20
LaibschYes04:20
LaibschI just found that out.  I had read the error message too hastily before04:21

CrownAmbassador Hi guys and gals. I've not been able to use my ADSL line since upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10 at the end of October. Searched around a lot, started threads in forums, reported bugs, but nothing. Got help here a week or so ago aswell, but couldn't figure it out. Has anyone else here heard of 8.10 having problems connecting to the internet via LAN/ADSL modem? The network card and modem works fine with Windows. I even tried the li10:18
CrownAmbassadorve CD in my works computer and get the same result. Just don't understand how it can do this in 2 computers and most other people don't have this problem. Extremely frustrating.10:18

andresmujicahave you seen one around there?16:19
BUGabundohumm16:27
BUGabundoin portuguese is "triagem" andresmujica16:28
BUGabundoas in hospital ....16:28
savvasandresmujica: I have translated bug triaging in greek as "bug analysis"16:30
BUGabundohumm doesn't sound any good savvas16:30
savvasBUGabundo: couldn't find anything that would fully match its meaning, but I explain what they're supposed to do in further text16:31
=== dholbach_ is now known as dholbach
savvasbut in a general meaning, bug triagers are indeed analysing bugs and forwarding them where appropriate16:32
BUGabundosavvas: what's it called in hospitals? where they first analize pacients and then make them wait accordingly?16:32
BUGabundodo you have a word for that in greek?16:32
savvasthe testing period you mean?16:33
andresmujicait seems that in spanish the english word TRIAGE is being used but as TRIAJE with the same meaning, however i've found is not accepted by the RAE  (the entity that accepts new words in spanish)16:33
savvasBUGabundo: ah wait, you mean sorting the importance of the disease?16:35
BUGabundonot disease but Pacient16:35
BUGabundolol16:35
BUGabundobut yeah16:35
BUGabundothat is the same ACTION that bug triagers do16:36

savvasin serbian is Trijaža, in greek.. well.. I'll have to ask16:43
savvasit never occured to me before16:43
savvaslooks like I have to use two words for triage16:47
savvasandresmujica: okay, in greek it's "bug sorting and assessment"16:48

rbrunhuberIs this the apropriate place to discuss a bugreport, which is not getting attention even it is a showstopper in some circumstances?20:49
hggdhrbrunhuber, not really. But if you give us the bug #, someone may take a look20:51
rbrunhuberhggdh: mom20:52
rbrunhuberIt is bug 317297.20:52
ubottuLaunchpad bug 317297 in cryptsetup "[jaunty] cryptsetup for root on encrypted lvm not called in initramfs." [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/31729720:52
rbrunhuberhggdh: I tried to debug it a bit on my own but my ubuntu/linux knowledge is far too small.20:54
hggdhrbrunhuber, have you tried with the current kernel/initramfs/etc?20:54
hggdhI remember a problem on -4 where LVM disks were not initialised20:55
rbrunhuberMy setup is completely updated till image -6 (which came in yesterday) no change20:55
rbrunhuberWhat i saw was that in initramfs -3 vgchange was called while in -4 lvm -vgchange was called.20:57
affluxrbrunhuber: some information about your configuration (ie. crypttab, whether the lvm is encrypted, or just one partition, where in the initramfs it droppes you to busybox) might be helpful. Considered I use a luks encrypted lvm for root here too I may be able to help.20:58
rbrunhuberafflux : everything except boot is encrypted.20:59
rbrunhuberafflux: I'll be back in a minute.20:59
rbrunhuberafflux: Still there?21:11
affluxyep21:13
affluxrbrunhuber: ^21:13
rbrunhuberok, so what did you need from me?21:14
rbrunhuberafflux: I just booted into linux to help you diagnose things...21:14
affluxrbrunhuber: the crypttab might be interesting, as well as when the boot actually fails21:14
rbrunhuberafflux: I can't say when it fails the last thing it does is initializing some usb devices.21:15
affluxrbrunhuber: it's before asking for the decryption password, right?21:16
rbrunhuberafflux: crypttab has only one line: sda4_crypt /dev/disk/by-uuid/e471edd5-a3de-4275-8bcf-e61515071cdf none luks21:16
rbrunhuberafflux: yes.21:16
anderskWhat causes a bug to have its status tracked separately for separate Ubuntu releases (e.g. bug 305539)?21:16
ubottuLaunchpad bug 305539 in transcode "REGRESSION in ffmpeg support in transcode (intrepid)" [Undecided,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/30553921:16
rbrunhuberafflux: Good point I will add this to the bugreport later.21:16
affluxandersk: someone from the release team (I think)  has to accept the bug report for an older release when it qualifies for an SRU21:17
affluxrbrunhuber: mmhh the cryptroot script does not seem to run21:18
affluxrbrunhuber: did you try to boot without splash?21:18
rbrunhuberafflux: yes21:19
affluxrbrunhuber: any useful information before busybox?21:19
rbrunhuberafflux: booting the -3 image works, but all higher images don't21:19
rbrunhuberafflux: just what i've written in the report: bug 31729721:21
ubottuLaunchpad bug 317297 in cryptsetup "[jaunty] cryptsetup for root on encrypted lvm not called in initramfs." [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/31729721:21
affluxhmm21:21
affluxrbrunhuber: one last thing I could imagine would be cryptroot missing from the initramfs for some reason21:25
rbrunhuberafflux: I've extracted the -3 initramfs and the -4 initramfs so where should it be located?21:26
affluxrbrunhuber: let me check21:26
affluxrbrunhuber: ./sbin/cryptsetup and ./conf/conf.d/cryptroot21:27
rbrunhuberafflux: maybe this brings some light in this: /03/conf/conf.d/cryptroot is missing in the -4 image.21:27
affluxrbrunhuber: that sounds like a problem.21:28
affluxrbrunhuber: try update-initramfs -u -k 2.6.28-4-generic21:28
rbrunhuberthe file should be also under /etc/initramfstools/conf.d?21:31
rbrunhuberafflux ^21:31
rbrunhuberafflux: it's missing there too.21:32
affluxrbrunhuber: no21:32
affluxrbrunhuber: the file should get generated on update-initramfs by /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/cryptroot21:32
rbrunhuberok, I'll give it a shot then21:35
rbrunhuberafflux: it is still not there.21:36
affluxrbrunhuber: hmm21:37
affluxrbrunhuber: I'll comment on the bug, it's getting late and I'm tired ;)21:37
rbrunhuberafflux: Thanks for your assistance.21:38
affluxyou're welcome21:38
rbrunhuberafflux: Can you add a tag like "showstopper" on this? If someone has no -3 kernel his setup may not boot.21:39
affluxrbrunhuber: there is no such tag. If it's a real problem and not likely to be fixed until release, one would inform the devs, I guess.21:41
rbrunhuberafflux: Do you mean I should try to jump into -devel and ask there again?21:43
affluxrbrunhuber: no I'd suggest waiting, I guess we can sort the issue out before the release.21:45
