freddydea | Hi. I have been using myth-tv for years on Gentoo, and thought I would try ubuntu on a new machine. Things have gone OK and I have live TV working fine, but attempting to record doesn't seem to do anything and no errors are logged. Using mythbackground --verbose all is not showing any problems, is there somewhere else I should be looking? TIA | 19:43 |
oobe | freddydea, have you setup guide data | 21:33 |
oobe | how are you scheduling your recordings | 21:33 |
oobe | or are you pressing R in the frontend whilst watching live tv | 21:34 |
ernstp | my mythtv frontend wont show scheduled recordings, only live tv recordings | 21:52 |
ernstp | but they exist, no problem there | 21:53 |
rhpot1991 | ernstp: hit m | 21:53 |
rhpot1991 | should pop up a menu | 21:53 |
rhpot1991 | and you can toggle between what it shows in there | 21:53 |
rhpot1991 | this is while on the recordings section | 21:53 |
ernstp | rhpot1991: doh, thanks! | 21:54 |
ernstp | nooot very intuitive | 21:54 |
rhpot1991 | ernstp: np, dunno how but sometimes that gets thrown out of whack | 21:55 |
ernstp | rhpot1991: could have been my fault, maybe I messed there before I had recordings working... | 21:58 |
freddydea | sorry, was out looking at snow. Mythtv is not scheduling recordings period, no matter if I use the frontend or mythweb | 22:22 |
freddydea | So my question really is, how do I monitor what happens when I schedule a recoding in the frontend as it is not making changes to the database | 22:28 |
freddydea | OK, a step forward - using logging on mysql, I can see that when I schedule a recording, a new record is added to the table 'record'. Yet if I click upcoming recordings in the frontend, it says I have not scheduled any recordings... | 23:04 |
oobe | freddydea, this is wierd i dont know | 23:17 |
freddydea | it gets weirder... | 23:19 |
freddydea | If I use mythweb, if I select recodomg schedules I have all my upcoming and past recordings listed, but then if I click the upcoming recordings tab it is empty! | 23:20 |
oobe | install mythtv-status | 23:21 |
freddydea | oh? what does that do? | 23:21 |
oobe | it wont lie its a small shell app that tells you encoder status and upcoming recordings | 23:21 |
oobe | bbiab got to go up to shop for a min | 23:22 |
freddydea | Mythstatus - next recording in: never | 23:28 |
freddydea | OK question - I can't test this as I have no working mythtv setup here - if I disable the capture card on a working mythtv system, will it still list upcoming recordings even though it can't record? | 23:32 |
oobe | possibly i dont know | 23:49 |
oobe | i just got back and while i was out i had an idea you might want to go to mythtv-setup and double check your recording groups and paths are all ok | 23:50 |
oobe | and also check that the directory where the recordings go are read write | 23:50 |
oobe | chmod a+rw /var/lib/mythtv/recordings | 23:51 |
oobe | if thats the location | 23:51 |
oobe | but it still will show your upcoming recordings if you cant write to the recordings directory | 23:53 |
oobe | in mythweb you can tell it to repair your sql tables its worth a try to | 23:54 |
oobe | http://localhost/mythweb/settings/database | 23:54 |
oobe | freddydea, also all your myth logs live in /var/log/mythytv | 23:56 |
oobe | the backend log will be the most usefull | 23:56 |
