MaxDreadGreetings all... to fix some corrupted system files I just had to do a soft-install of Ubuntu 8.10 on this laptop (previously 8.04(?)). Everything was looking pretty good except when I clicked on Evolution Mail it mentioned something about migrating to SQLite, paused for a few seconds and then the window disappeared and the process bombed.01:50
=== tim__sharitt is now known as tim_sharitt
MaxDreadI'm in the process of doing all the updates, was wondering if anyone here was familiar with whether or not that would take care of the problem.01:51
MaxDreadanyway, thanks in advance for any insight on that bug.01:53
=== Flare183_ is now known as Flare183
Rocket2DMnMaxDread, after your updates, if the problem persists you should file a bug report02:05
Rocket2DMnfor a program crash, you will need to get a backtrace - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash02:05
gourgieverytime i report a bug , the report is private. should i leave it that way or changing it to public ? in which cases reports should remain private ?02:46
charlie-tcagourgi: the report is private until it is verified that there is no personal data in it.02:49
gourgiso i should leave it that way, right?02:50
charlie-tcaIf you verify there are no passwords, bank accounts, private info you don't want released in it, you can mark it public02:50
gourgicharlie-tca how can i verify that?02:50
charlie-tcaYou have to look in every file that is attached.02:50
gourgicharlie-tca just looking inside the attachments?02:50
charlie-tcayeah02:50
gourgiok , i'll have it in mind02:51
gourgithanks02:51
charlie-tcayou are welcome02:51
charlie-tcaI have special test systems, so I turn the reports public each time.02:51
gourgii actually my jaunty install is also in a test enviroment02:52
charlie-tcaI use test passwords and have no information on those systems, so I know it does not matter.02:53
gourgisame here, so it is ok for now , but i'll definitely look reports from my real working pc.02:55
gourginot that there are many things to report there :)  interpid is solid for me02:56
charlie-tcaYeah, I am cautious with the real system.02:58
orsonjI have had problems with ubuntu corrupting files on my Sansa c250. I can repeat a failure with simple steps every time.06:11
orsonjhttp://paste.ubuntu.com/113914/06:14
orsonjok, I got a bug post, let me know if there is anything else I should do07:02
orsonjhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/32562407:02
ubottuLaunchpad bug 325624 in linux "file corruption on sansa c250" [Undecided,New]07:02
Hewwhat sourcepackage is responsible for handling a modified menu.lst during kernel upgrades, is it debconf? (bug 325631)08:33
ubottuLaunchpad bug 325631 in linux "when choosing what to do with menu.lst while updating i did "show 3 way differ" and then "Cancel"" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/32563108:33
Hobbseeer, i think it's debconf08:40
HobbseeHew: I don't see how that's a bug?08:41
HobbseeHew: he hit cancel, it didn't change the config file.  Works as intended, i thought?08:42
Hobbsee(of course, it's not wise to hit the cancel button, but...)08:42
=== BugMaN1 is now known as BugMaN
HewHobbsee: That's what I was about to say, but I've hit the cancel button myself before, it's a bit deceptive. I was going to have a look for any related bugs first.08:49
HewHobbsee: It's wishlist, if it's anything at all.08:50
HobbseeHew: such as "don't let people cancel during dist-upgrades"?  Yeah, possibly08:50
HewHobbsee: Well just for a new kernel. Cancelling leaves menu.lst as is, without the new kernel options. If that's what the user wants to do, they should select the "Do Nothing" option imo. Cancel and Forward (from memory) are not clear when you're looking at the merge differences and want to go back.08:53

MrKanisterhi pedro_. well I am about to use the hugday-tools, but I can't find the cockie :P15:03
MrKanister*cookie15:04
hggdhah, thanks, I was a bit surprised15:04
pedro_MrKanister: is at the ~/.mozilla/firefox/profile.default/ directory15:05
pedro_MrKanister: file name is cookies.sqlite15:06
MrKanisterpedro_: I found that file, but how do I open it? Do I have to use sqlite ?15:07
pedro_MrKanister: no you don't have to open it, just pass the path to the hugday-tools15:07
MrKanisterTypeError: Try to read cookiefile, cannot handle format of '/home/martin/.mozilla/firefox/gh09ina8.default/cookies.sqlite'15:09
MrKanisterpedro_: I am always getting this error15:10
MrKanisterpedro_: Doesn't work with the MOINMOIN-ID directly, either...15:11
pedro_ouch it works fine here15:11
pedro_thekorn: are you around?15:11
hggdhMrKanister, same here15:17
pedro_hggdh: using intrepid as well?15:18
hggdhpedro_, on jaunty15:18
pedro_i'm running jaunty and just checked out the hugday-tools branch from bzr15:18
pedro_and i don't have any problem15:19
hggdhah, I installed from PPA. Perhaps an update in bzr?15:19
MrKanisterpedro_: Maybe the branch has some fixes in it15:19
pedro_maybe, could you give it a try?15:19
thekornpedro_: yes15:22
MrKanisterWorks with the bzr branch version15:22
MrKanisterbut using "--wiki-id" still doesn't work15:22
pedro_thekorn: MrKanister and hggdh are having some issues with hugday-tools15:22
pedro_may you have a look ? ;-)15:22
thekornok, reading the log15:23
pedro_thanks you !15:23
thekornMrKanister: do you get any error message when you run hugday init --user NAME --cookie PATH ?15:24
MrKanisterthekorn: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/102877/15:25
MrKanisterthekorn: The problem with the cookie.sqplite file only appears with the ppa-version15:25
thekornMrKanister: hmm, let me check15:26
thekornMrKanister: ok, which version of python are you using15:29
hggdhthekorn, here it is 2.5.415:30
MrKanisterthekorn:  2.5.2-1ubuntu115:30
MrKanisterthekorn: I was wondering why huday-tools wants to have python2.4 installed15:30
thekornMrKanister: because I'm bad at packaging stuff :(15:31
thekornok I did the packaging wrong,15:32
MrKanisterthekorn: hm, that may have caused the problem15:32
thekornwith python < 2.4 you need python-pysqlite215:33
thekornpythoon >= 2.5 has sqlite on board15:33
thekornand should work15:33
MrKanisterthekorn: I will try that15:34
MrKanisterthekorn: Thank you15:34
MrKanisterthekorn: hm...doesn't work though15:37
thekornMrKanister: same error?15:37
MrKanisterthekorn: yes15:37
thekornMrKanister: to be sure, 'only' the PPA version is broken, when you use it directly from the branch it works?15:38
MrKanisterthekorn: Yes, "--cookie" works with the branch-version, but "--wiki-id" works with no version15:39
thekorntzz, that's bad15:39
MrKanisterwith "--wiki-id" I get "hugday: error: The following options are not allowed for this tool: wiki_id"15:40
thekornMrKanister: argh, this is another bug,15:42
thekornlooks likke a typo somewhere in the code15:42
* thekorn does too much typos15:42
MrKanisterthekorn: It's in line 7715:42
MrKanisterthekorn: sorry, I was wrong15:44
thekornyes, the typo is in ln 8615:45
thekornit should be wiki_id there15:45
MrKanisterthekorn: You are right, I mixed it up15:46
MrKanisterthekorn: But apart from that the tool is great. thank you very much for it :)15:48
thekornglad you like it15:49
thekornI hope it helps15:49
hggdhquestion: bug 111494 why is it I cannot change the Importance?15:51
ubottuLaunchpad bug 111494 in update-manager "Display a log of updates performed" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/11149415:51
MrKanisterhggdh: Maybe because it is the project, not the package? (just gessing)15:53
hggdhyeah, I think this may be it. But it seems I cannot change the importance on any of the update-manager bugs. How's an u-m hugday to go this way?15:54
hggdhpedro_, ^^15:55
hggdh(please ;-)15:55
MrKanisterhggdh: Hmm, I am able to :P15:56
MrKanister(but only with packages, not with projects)15:56
pedro_hggdh: probably because you don't have permissions over the "upstream" project15:57
pedro_that's bad filed anyways15:57
MrKanisterI added the package for ubuntu15:57
pedro_just close the upstream task, that's no sense15:58
MrKanisterpedro_: done15:58
hggdhI thought about that, but there are many this way... so we will go closing all upstream15:58
pedro_MrKanister: thanks15:58
pedro_hggdh: i'll ask mvo about that15:59
pedro_hggdh, MrKanister just talked to mvo, he wants the upstream tasks to be closed and open a new ubuntu task for them with same status if they are confirmed or triage16:19
pedro_hggdh, MrKanister if they are too old just close them16:19
bddebianBoo16:19
hggdhpedro_, roger.16:20
MrKanisterpedro_: Thanks16:20
pedro_hggdh, MrKanister thanks you guys, you are truly rockstars ;-)16:22
MrKanisterpedro_: :)16:23
thekornI think I will upload a new (and fixed) version of hugday-tools to my PPA later16:24

hggdhbug-huggers: we have 84 huggable update-manager bugs wrongly set to the upstream update-manager. They do no appear in the hug-list, but should still be looked at.19:48
hggdhplease see https://bugs.launchpad.net/update-manager/+bugs?field.searchtext=&orderby=datecreated&search=Search&field.status%3Alist=NEW&field.status%3Alist=INCOMPLETE_WITH_RESPONSE&field.status%3Alist=INCOMPLETE_WITHOUT_RESPONSE&field.status%3Alist=CONFIRMED&field.status%3Alist=TRIAGED&field.status%3Alist=INPROGRESS&field.status%3Alist=FIXCOMMITTED&field.assignee=&field.bug_reporter=&field.omit_dupes=on&field.has_patch=&field.has_no_package=19:48
mangilimichggdh: what should we do in order to cope with this problem?19:52
MrKanisterhggdh, mangilimic: Why is it possible at all to open a bug against a project?19:54
hggdhmangilimic, reject invalid the upstream u-m, and open an Ubuntu u-m task; then go on the usual process (asking for more info, etc)19:54
mangilimichggdh: sorry! I read previous messages in IRC and understood what we should do! I apologize for this inconvenience!19:55
hggdhmangilimic, no prob19:55
hggdhMrKanister, they exist in LP, so people can open bugs against the upstream (in fact, we do that when we set an upstream bug watch). But -- generically speaking -- all new bugs on Ubuntu should be set against the Ubuntu package19:56
MrKanisterhggdh: hm...Is it possible to make the package in a distribution compulsory?19:58
MrKanister(when filing a bug...)19:58
hggdhI was thinking of this also...20:03
hggdhif you open an Ubuntu bug, you *must* open it against an Ubuntu package20:03
hggdhI guess this will have to be discussed with Pedro, Brian, and the LP team (if not already reported against LP/Malone)20:04
MrKanisterThanks for the information20:09
MrKanisterbtw: nearly all the update-manager bugs now have a package assigned to20:09
mangilimicMrKanister: that's all for today! :)20:13
MrKanistermangilimic: hopefully ;)20:13

hggdhMrKanister, thanks. Being in the middle of a technical discussion the whole day, I have not been able to pay much attention to the bugs20:18

maxbHmm, I was just trying to requestsync bzr, and it looks like requestsync's "are you a member of ubuntu-core-dev" detection has broken. It wanted to subscribe ubuntu-archive instead of ubuntu-main-sponsors20:26
MrKanisterI wonder what to do with 2 lonely gaim bugs, since it changed to pidgin (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gaim)20:26
