JontheEchidnaRiddell: could you sponsor https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~kubuntu-members/update-notifier-kde/trunk ? It's got a somewhat-important bugfix01:36
lex79there are six plasma-widget in revu :)01:37

shtylmansebas: I have made some changes to the battery monitor plasmoid (added continuous mode for the battery icon) would you be the person to send the patchfile/changes to? or someone else?02:05
nhandlerscottk: I just finished renaming the last plasmoid. Should I file a removal bug now?02:07
shtylmanwill there be any more changes to the main kde plasmoids accepted into jaunty? or have those undergone a freeze?02:09

LaserJockwho's been doing artwork for Kubuntu these days?02:22
nhandlerNo clue LaserJock02:25
LaserJockhmm02:26
nhandlerDo you know a way to check the rdepends of a package that is in jaunty from Intrepid?02:26
LaserJocka jaunty pbuilder/chroot is how I do it02:27
nhandlerI used to use apt-cache rdepends, but that only works if you have the jaunty repos in your sources.list02:27
LaserJockif we were smart we'd have a service that let you access the full set of Sources/Packages files remotely02:29
nhandlerDo you mean like Debian's ultimate datebase that has information on all of the packages/bugs?02:29
LaserJockI was thinking along the lines of a remote apt-cache02:33
LaserJockor remote dctrl-tools02:34
nhandlerDoes anyone have a link to the upstream decision that resulted in the renaming of the plasmoids?02:37
lex79nhandler: maybe this? http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2009/02/why-widget-brother.html02:44
lex79and http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2009/02/user-vs-technical-language-aka-more-on.html02:44
nhandlerlex79: Wouldn't it be from kde.org?02:45
lex79uhm...I suppose no02:46
claydohScottK: thanks for the wiki edit, had  to go to flyball class, didn't get back till late02:50
vorianyo!02:52
voriannhandler: iirc, we are matching Debians naming of widgets02:52
nhandlervorian: Ok, I thought it upstream referred to kde.02:53
nhandlerThink it is safe to file the removal request now? Or should I wait until the renamed packages clear New?02:53
vorianthat was the source, but not the deciding factor02:54
vorianerm, wait02:54
ScottK-desktopclaydoh: Thanks for catching the LTS thing.  I thought I'd gotten them all.02:54
ScottK-desktopnhandler: Wait until after New.02:54
voriani think they all cleared, did they not?02:54
ScottK-desktopThe other big factor was getting agreement with Debian.02:55
nhandlervorian: I'm not sure. Let me check02:55
ScottK-desktopvorian: Dunno.02:55
voriani know the 3 I did got accepted02:55
ScottK-desktopThe ones done last night I know got accepted.02:55
ScottK-desktopDunno about any after.02:55
nhandlerIt looks like there are 2 that are still in New: https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+queue?queue_state=0&queue_text=plasma-widget02:55
nhandlernetwork-manager and memusage02:56
ScottK-desktopclaydoh: BTW, after having gotten zero support for the raving hordes of Kubuntuforums KDE3 lovers I'm seriously considering an eff you very much post as a followup to my request for help with testing.02:56
vorianlol02:57
ScottK-desktopIs Kubuntuforums covered by CoC?02:57
nhandlerI don't think so02:57
voriandoubt it, they are not under the *buntu umbrella02:57
vorianwhich is funny, because Ryan was basically forced to transfer ownership of ubuntuforums.org over to canonical02:58
LaserJockI thought the CoC did cover the forums02:58
vorianUbuntu forums, yes02:58
vorianKubuntu forums is a seperate thing completely02:59
claydohyes, kfn is totally separate, and largely unmaintaied03:00
claydohand loosely modded03:01
claydohby yours truly03:02
vorian\o/03:02
vorianclaydoh can haz MOD-POWAS03:02
nhandlerCould someone here check for rdepends on the plasmoids? I would, but I don't know how to use apt-cache rdepends without adding the jaunty repos to my sources.list03:03
* claydoh should kick some stuff arounf with the owner and the couple mods we do have, but we never get anywhere03:03
ScottK-desktopnhandler: Just pbuilder login to your Jaunty pbuilder chroot and do it from there.03:03
claydohbut honestly, other than the usual kde3 fanbois holding grudges it is a nice laid back place03:04
nhandlerScottK-desktop: I'm on a live cd right now. My Ubuntu laptop died03:04
ScottK-desktopOh.03:04
claydohno different in the kde3 situation than the nmailing list03:04
ScottK-desktopclaydoh: I don't pay attention to that either.03:05
claydohScottK: no responses dooesn't mean no reads or testing03:10
claydohI wouldn't want an f-u post myself, but I understand your reasoning :)03:10
ScottKclaydoh: All the test results in the iso tracker are from known developers/testers.03:12
* claydoh just looked :(03:13
claydohill do an f-u post then03:13
claydohwell not really03:13
claydohbut something03:13
ScottKWell I'm pretty well done.03:14
claydohdid you have to get permission, or whatever to get a kubuntu 8.04.2?03:14
ScottKYes.  Slanagesk went to the Ubuntu Tech Board to get it authorized after I made the request.03:15
ScottKNormally non-LTS releases don't get point updates.03:15
ScottKNo other derivative got one this time.03:15
claydohI will note that03:15
ScottKI packaged KDE 3.5.10, got it approved into hardy-updates (and not just backports) (note with lots of help from a|wen), pushed for Kubuntu to get an 8.04.2, and finally asked for some help.03:16
ScottKI did it because it was the right thing to do, not for any particular accolades, but some willingness to lift a finger from the user community would have been nice.03:17
claydohScottK: the april 2010 is the correct support life for .2?03:41
ScottKOops03:42
ScottK10/0903:42
claydohthat would have been nice :)03:42
ScottKPlz fixor03:42
claydohdone03:44
ScottKThanks03:44
claydohI stickied the testing request post (shoulda done that to begin with)03:46
claydohshuld I change my sig back?03:47
claydohhttp://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3101429.msg169229#msg16922903:47
* claydoh should take typing lessons as well03:51
nhandlerWere all of the plasmoids meant to have dummy transitional packages added?03:59
voriannhandler: if they existed in intrepid04:07
ScottKclaydoh: Thanks.04:09
ScottKBTW, in related news, https://wiki.kubuntu.org/HelpingKubuntu could really do with some update.04:12
nhandlervorian: Oops. I added them for all of the plasmoids I renamed. Should I remove them?04:24
voriannhandler: which ones did you do?04:26
nhandlervorian: Most of them04:27
nhandlerThe transitional package isn't hurting anything, it just isn't needed, correct?04:29
vorianright04:30
voriani'm thinking it through04:30
nhandlerIMO, it would make the most sense to just leave the packages as they are, and just remove the unneeded transitional packages the next time the package is touched04:33
ScottKAgreed.04:36
nhandlerI'm going to head off to bed. I'll keep an eye on the New queue, and once all of the plasma-widget-* packages clear, I'll file a removal request for the old plasmoid-* packages04:37
ScottKnhandler: You did add .install files for all of them so you don't get empty binaries, right?04:37
nhandlerF***. Now you tell me. /me was just making the changes you said.04:38
ScottKMy debug quassel build doesn't produce proper symbols in backtraces.  I got the suggestion that one or more of http://paste.ubuntu.com/116688/ compiler flags is the problem.04:38
ScottKSuggestions?04:38
nhandlerI guess I'll have a fun day tomorrow fixing up the plasma-widget-* packages again. Although this time, they won't need to go through New04:39
ScottKnhandler: I can reject them if you want.04:40
nhandlerscottk: It doesn't really matter. The old plasmoid-* packages are still in the repos, so this won't mess up any systems. The advantage to accepting them is that I can upload the fixed versions without going through new04:40
ScottKnhandler: Or I can reject them all and you can fix them and they go through New once when correct.04:41
ScottKIf they've got emptpy binaries they should get rejected anyway.04:41
voriannod04:42
nhandlerscottk: Whatever you want to do is fine. It is no more work on my part. But I guess you are right about rejecting them04:42
ScottKnhandler: Please give me a list.04:42
ScottKBTW, I had to reject one of my own last night.04:42
nhandlerscottk: Give me a second, I have to go through my emails to find them04:42
ScottKOK04:43
nhandlerscottk: http://paste.ubuntu.com/116691/ those are all of the plasmoids I touched04:44
ScottKnhandler: OK.  Looking.  I'll reject those04:44
nhandlerOk, andI'll push updated versions tomorrow04:44
ScottKnhandler: Clarification ...  If they're still Source New I'll reject them.  If the source has already been accepted, I'm not sure you can reuse the revision.04:45
ScottKI'll leave those and let Riddell decide (if any)04:45
nhandlerscottk: If they are already accepted, I'll just push a new version with a bumped ubuntu revision04:46
ScottKOK04:46
nhandlerNight04:48
ScottKnhandler: tvprogramme, toggle-compositing, teacooker, system-status, stockquote, kbstate, weather, weatherforecast, memusage all rejected.04:54
ScottKspellcheck and playwolf are already Source accepted, so I didn't touch those.04:55
lex79ScottK: I have this warning: dpkg-source: warning: ignoring deletion of file BIB_ManSlide/Help/doc_en.html~05:02
lex79How to fix please?05:02
ScottKDid you make the tarball yourself?05:02
lex79I downloaded from kde-apps05:02
ScottKI'm guessing you can ignore it.05:03
lex79ScottK: ok I ignore it, btw can I remove doc_en.html~ and repack tarball?05:04
ScottKShouldn't repack the tarball just for that.05:04
lex79ok05:05
lex79thanks05:05

Tonio_Riddell: seeds updated10:24
Tonio_Riddell: I noticed there are pending changes waiting for a new kubuntu-meta upload...10:24
Tonio_Riddell: is that wanted purpose ? or could I upload ? I see adept droped ans so on...10:25
Tonio_Riddell: anyway I have to wait for the package to build since it won't be added since then :)10:26
RiddellTonio_: yes that should be updated10:31
ScottKI'd suggest drop adept to the DvD for now.11:22
ScottKThere's a 4.2.x schedule now?11:24
RiddellTonio_: I accepted the binaries11:56
RiddellTonio_: can you take a look at bug 325138 ?11:56
ubottuLaunchpad bug 325138 in plasmoid-network-manager "plasmoid-network-manager does not show wireless connected icon" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/32513811:56
Tonio_Riddell: I did the patch and wstefens commited it, so I can close :)11:57
Tonio_Riddell: I've seen an interesting one11:58
Tonio_Riddell: about gtk-qt-engines...11:58
Riddell...11:58
Tonio_Riddell: Bug 32774111:59
ubottuLaunchpad bug 327741 in kubuntu-default-settings "Set "Gtk Styles" to "QtCurve" by default" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/32774111:59
Tonio_Riddell: the idea is to use gtk-qt-engines for fonts and so on, but qtcurve for the teme11:59
Tonio_Riddell: it is a lot better since there are now known problems with the bindings and qt4 theme12:00
Riddellwhat's the advantage of that?12:00
Tonio_Riddell: look at the screenshots, you'll see the bugs fixed12:00
Tonio_Riddell: I can confirm the all thing12:00
Tonio_Riddell: the problem is the bunch of dependancies that might come with it12:02
Tonio_Riddell: but the technical points of using this are valid12:03
Riddellqtcurve doesn't fit in at all artisticly12:03
Riddellbut if it fixes the many bugs we should consider it12:03
Riddellbut why qt curve?  there's loads of themes12:04
Riddellprobably even gtk oxygen ones that would fit in12:04
Tonio_because it "ressembles" to qt12:04
Tonio_Riddell: I agree that any other theme would probably fix12:04
Tonio_Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>= 1.20.0), libc6 (>= 2.4), libcairo2 (>= 1.2.4), libfontconfig1 (>= 2.4.0), libfreetype6 (>= 2.3.5), libglib2.0-0 (>= 2.16.0), libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.14.0), libpango1.0-0 (>= 1.22.0), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4)12:05
Tonio_that's the problm with it I guess :)12:05
Riddellit doesn't resemble qt, it resembles qtcurve which we don't use12:05
Tonio_Riddell: more than pango, I meant12:06
Riddelldependencies can be removed, that's what we do with gtk-qt-engine12:06
Tonio_Riddell: our gtk-qt-engines is pretty old, we first can look at updating it if possible12:06
Tonio_hum unmaintained...12:08
Tonio_Riddell: well I'll keep the bug opened and will try to figure out what to do...12:08

JontheEchidnaRiddell: no thanks, I'm fine :)14:51
RiddellNCommander: stickers?14:54
NCommanderhuh?14:55
ScottKRiddell: LP is still showing the ppc kernel New here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+queue - No idea what's up with that.  I'm heading out for a few hours and I'll check back then.14:55
RiddellNCommander: e-mail me your postal address if you want kubuntu stickers14:55
NCommanderSure14:55
LureTonio_, Riddell: isn't plasma-widget-network-manager wrong name (after recent rename upstream to network management). I would think that plasma-widget-networkmanagement would be more accurate14:56
freeflyingRiddell: how many stickers can I have, beijinglug will hold a install fest for girls next month14:59
Riddellfreeflying: just one sheet I'm afraid15:00
Riddellfreeflying: it includes about 10 stickers I think15:00
Lurefreeflying: get more addresses to Riddell ;-)15:01
Riddellfreeflying: what's "Pockey Lam" ?15:01

ScottKRiddell: The mysterious kernel finally appeared.  Thanks if you gave it another push.15:48
* ScottK has mesa requeued now and we'll see how far we get on Power.15:48
Riddellwhen did PowerPC become just Power?15:49
ScottKWhen I got tired of typing the whole thing.15:50
ScottKI guess ppc would be clearer and shorter.15:50
Riddellwell it often is just called Power15:51
ScottKThen I guess I got lucky.15:52
ScottKOnce again, I'd really appreciate it if someone with 4.1 could verify Bug #318866 as it's the last thing blocking the 4.1.4 transition to intrepid-updates.15:53
ubottuLaunchpad bug 318866 in kdeutils "printer-applet does not display when new printers get configured" [Undecided,Fix committed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/31886615:53
ScottKI double checked last night and my printer is parallel only and my laptop that has 4.1.4 has no parallel port, so I can't test it ...15:54
Riddellit'll need a USB printer15:56
Riddellasking in #kubuntu15:57
Riddellwe are supposed to have a sru-verification team for this sort of thing...16:00
nixternalRiddell: never head or saw of that guy in my life...that is a first16:16
nixternalnever seen him on the docs mailing list or the docs channel either16:17
Riddellnixternal: want to contact him and bring him in?16:17
nixternalya I will respond to that bug for more info16:17
vorianRiddell: with kolourpaint, do we just need to move kolourpaint4 > kolourpaint (with appropriate Replaces/Conflicts)?16:17
Riddellvorian: what's the issue?16:18
vorianthere is no issue, I was looking at the "to-do" list16:18
Riddellvorian: it's a qustion of if we want it on the CD, I think we don't, others think we do16:20
vorianRiddell: ok16:21
JontheEchidnaktorrent needs updating/merging btw16:25
JontheEchidnaA while back I almost got it working but it failed trying to install an .xpm icon, and we had KDE packaging work to do16:26
Tonio_Riddell: what about Lure proposal ? plasma-widget-networkmanagement ?17:04
Tonio_would make sense, since indeed upstream renamed it 3 weeks ago17:05
jussi01Tonio_: you looking for a name for the plasma nm-applet?17:05
Tonio_jussi01: well Lure proposed this, and this would make sense in my opinion...17:05
Tonio_on the other hand, it is a frontend for network-manager17:05
jussi01Tonio_: at least I would propose: plasma-widget-networkmanager17:06
Tonio_so..... I think I prefer the current name, but I'm not the only one choosing :)17:06
Tonio_jussi01: and as part of kubuntu-desktop, most people will never figure out the name of the package :)17:06
jussi01or even better I would say, network-manager-plasma-widget, following on from network-manager-gnome17:07
Riddellseems like a bad choice of upstream not to call it something related to network-manager17:07
jussi01even network-manager-plasma ?17:07
jussi01or network-manager-plasmoid ?17:08
Tonio_Riddell: the plasmoid for powerdevil isn't called powerdevil-something, but simply "battery monitor"17:09
Tonio_Riddell: I think the "network management" name comes from the same principle...17:09
Tonio_considering people don't have to know it is a frontend for something called network-manager17:09
Tonio_which makes sense imho :)17:10
Riddellpeople searching for the package may well know about network manager17:14
Riddellanyway, I don't have an opinion17:15
Tonio_Riddell: it'll be installed by default17:16
smarterit needs to indicate in the long desc that it's a network-manager frontend at least17:17
ScottKjussi01: Debian has settled on plasma-widget-foo for a naming scheme and we are following in that.17:18
Tonio_Riddell: and well.... we can learn them to use : apt-cache rdepends network-manager | xargs apt-cache show | grep kde17:18
Tonio_:)17:18
Tonio_Riddell: seriously, I was wondering about something...17:18
Tonio_Riddell: alt+space is unused, right now, and used to be the default for katapult17:18
Tonio_Riddell: it also is the default for osx and windows launchers...17:19
Tonio_Riddell: shouldn't we consider enabling krunner on alt+space ?17:19
Tonio_ Riddell also, that's a lot easier to type in than alt+f217:19
shtylmanI change the binding to alt+space17:25
shtylmancause I was used to katapult17:25
shtylmaneasier on the hands too, cause your thumb is generally already on spacebar and the other one is near the alt key, just my $0.0217:26
Riddellshrug, alt+f2 is common across KDE and GNome17:27
Tonio_Riddell: I'm talking about an alternative shortcut :) not a replacement17:27
Tonio_Riddell: so that it can be called with alt+f2 or alt+space17:27
Tonio_Riddell: wouldn't that make sense ?17:27
Riddellagain, no opinion, do it if you like :)17:35
Riddellallee: my e-mail doesn't do UTF 8, what are the characters I can't see?17:47
alleeRiddell: ΓΌ or write 'ue' instead17:48
Riddellallee: your address makes it sound like you work with aliens :)17:49
alleeRiddell: some scientist here are like them ;)17:49
shtylmandoes work still need to be done on the ubiquity installer? I am reading the todo list and I see that has 'none' next to it...18:10
Riddellshtylman: yes18:14
Riddellshtylman: the easy item is to change it to a KApplication from a QApplication18:14
Riddellshtylman: harder stuff includes the new timezone map18:14
vorianthere's a crapton of plasmiods needing a second review on REVU, if someone has time18:23
shtylmanRiddell: ok, I would like to tackle the easy item first, and then move onto the harder item schedule permitting. Where should I get started? and who should I submit patches to?18:24
Riddellshtylman: have you ever done python and/or pykde programming before?18:25
shtylmanRiddell: python yes...pykde not really18:26
Riddellshtylman: may want to start by looking over http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Languages/Python/PyKDE_WebKit_Tutorial18:28
Riddellthen you can branch ubiquity and see if you can change it from a Qt app to a KDE one  https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-installer/ubiquity/trunk18:29
Riddellubiquity is a large and complex application though18:29
Riddelland of course it's an installer so don't go past the final stage or it'll wipe your hard drive and generally don't run it on a machine that you don't mind being wiped18:29
Riddellgenerally I  apt-get install ubiquity   and edit the files from the package, then copy the files back to the bzr archive18:30
shtylmanRiddell: heh, noted. And I assume I should be using the current ubiquity package from jaunty?18:32
Riddellshtylman: yes18:34

ScottKYes21:12
ScottKIn Jaunty, which is the first release which has ARM, KDE 4.2 is fully built.21:12

ScottK8.10 is done.22:47
ghostcubeScottK, hmm ah i only know from debian that there are daily updated release cds with all fixes till then22:48
ghostcubei thought this is for ubuntu too22:48
ScottKNo.22:48
ScottKWe do dailies for the development release.22:49
ScottKFor released versions CD images don't normally get updated.  LTS releases are the exception.22:49
ghostcubeah ok ScottK thx :)22:49

nhandlerWe are meant to remove THIS_SHOULD_GO_TO_UNSTABLE and modify plasmoids to use the version of kde.mk that ships with cdbs, right?23:33
ScottKnhandler: kde.mk/kde4.mk, but yes.23:36
nhandlerScottK: Yeah, that is what I meant.23:37
nhandlerCan debian/cdbs/dh_sameversiondeps also be removed?23:38
ScottKAll the debian/cdbs stuff can go AFAIK.23:42
nhandlerOne last question, for the .install files, they are only for packages with the transitional packages to avoid empty binaries. I looked at the .install file in some of the other plasma widgets, and they had usr/share/kde4/services/* and usr/lib/kde4/*. For one of the plasma widgets I was working on, it installs files in a different sub directory of usr/share/kde4. Is it fine to add usr/share/kde4/* to the .install file?23:45
