Stralyticshouldn't netbook remix be available in lpia arch?06:02
Stralytici've just tried to boot the jaunty mid img, and it seems to be failing to start the x server, any ideas what i can do?06:09
persiaStralytic, There shouldn't be anything architecture-specific about netbook-remix.  Is a package missing for you?06:26
persiaFor the jaunty MID image issue: does /var/log/Xorg.0.log say anything useful?06:27

Stralyticpersia, any idea how i can access xorg logs from the mid image? it doesn't give me a command line09:42
persiaCould you describe the behaviour you see?09:43
Stralyticbooting jaunty mid from usb stick, gets to starting xorg, xorg tries to start up, fails, retries indefinetly09:44
persiaAh, right.  You'd probably have to remove the restart hint from the upstart job by editing the image, or be quick enough with alt-f2 (or similar), and edit/move/remove /etc/event.d/session09:48
Stralyticcan i just mount the squashfs and edit it directly?09:52
persiaYes, but you have to rebuild the squashfs.  There's a wiki page about that...09:52
persiahttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/MobileTeam/Mobile/HowTo/ImageModification09:54
persiaIt looks a bit complex, but there's a script that can help.09:54
Stralyticta09:54
persiaStralytic, Just in case it's not obvious, the provided script performs a destructive edit.  I usually make a copy of the downloaded image before editing, just to avoid downloading again.09:57
Stralyticok, thx09:57
Hari__Hello, I want to move the marquee on hildon desktop from top of the screen to the left side. Where the layout changes for this should be done? any suggestions?11:11
persiaHari__, I'm just guessing, but I think it would be the marquee-plugins package11:12
Stralyticpersia, i finally got a command line by removing /etc/event.d/session from the image, then i installed openssh-server, set a password, logged in remotely and started Xorg11:32
Stralyticpersia, Xorg logs say the intel driver has started successfully11:33
Stralyticit's using version 2.5.1 of the intel driver, i wonder if updating it would fix the problem11:35
persiaSo it's starting, but just exiting.  That sounds like it's not X, but an application.  Anything in ~/.xsession-errors11:35
Stralytici'm starting Xorg by running Xorg at the command line, the server exits with no errors in Xorg logs, but the display stays black and when trying to shutdown the display is corrupt11:36
persiaTry running `startx` as the ubuntu user.11:36
Stralyticpersia, process 'Xorg' enters state 'defunct' and uses all cpu11:40
Stralyticthen after a few seconds it exits11:41
Stralyticupdating the xserver-xorg-video-intel package and trying again11:46
Stralyticpersia, that fixed it12:05
persiaStralytic, Excellent.  If you now reinstall ubuntu-mid-default-settings, it ought put the session back, and you can get back to default.12:10
Stralyticturns out the installer doesn't fit on the screen properly so i'm installing via remote x12:13
persiaWhat resolution is your device?12:18
Stralytic1024x600 but the fonts were huge12:19
Stralyticseems the installer doesn't like ext4 yet... even though it gives you an option to partition it that way12:20
Stralyticmaybe the kernel wasn't built with ext4 support12:22
Stralyticroot@ubuntu:/var/log# modprobe ext412:24
StralyticFATAL: Module ext4 not found.12:24
Stralyticyup12:24
persiaYou're running a Jaunty daily?12:30
Stralyticno, alpha412:30
persiaClose enough.12:31
persiaThe most recent kernel upload realigned lpia with i386, which should bring in most of the same modules, and remove that issue.12:32
persiaFor the font size, the MID stack is designed for hardware at >200 DPI, which makes everything look *huge* on larger screens.12:33
Stralyticahh, i see12:33
persiaSo once the install is done, just adjust your preferred font size in your session.12:36
Stralyticthe 'preferences' page doesn't have the 'appearance' application, how would i go about changing the font dpi?12:37
Stralyticnone of the urls in the sources.list it installed are working12:44
persiaA bunch of people mentioned slowness or outages with ports.ubuntu.com today.  I think someone is looking at it.12:46
persiaI'mo not actually sure how to change the DPI setting.  You might try looking in gconf.12:47
Stralyticno, the urls were wrong12:48
Stralyticthey were:12:48
Stralyticdeb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ /ubuntu-ports jaunty main restricted12:48
Stralyticshould be:12:49
Stralyticdeb http://ports.ubuntu.com jaunty main restricted 12:49
persiaAh.  That sounds like an issue with the installer preseeding.  Thanks for mentioning it: I'll take a look at it this weekend.12:52
Stralyticnp12:52
Stralyticnight12:57
persiaGood night.13:03
Hari__persia, the marquee-plugins package seems to only control the plugins (like close, calendar etc) which are displayed over the marquee. any chances of the marquee background image location controlled from hildon-desktop package or other?13:41
persiaHari__, Quite possibly.  I don't actually know which bits go in which packages very well.13:46
Hari__persia, thanks. will look in to it13:48
