fab1hello, is any LP admin here?08:53
fab1I posted a question some time ago for migrating sourceforge.net bugs to LP08:54
fab1and Graham started that, but there was at some point a problem with the staging LP, and things got stuck somehow08:54
fab1it was question Graham08:55
beunogmb, ^08:55
fab1it was question 57552 sorry08:55
gmbfab1: Ah!08:56
gmbfab1: I've been looking for you on IRC... should have emailed but the last week has been hectic; sorry.08:56
gmbfab1: Staging came back up last week reasonably stable08:56
fab1gmb: ah OK, you're Graham :)08:56
gmbfab1: Yes.08:56
gmbSo I'll get a reimport done today and we can try to check the data again.08:57
fab1OK, great!08:57
fab1It's quite a task to do, so thanks a lot again for your efforts08:57
gmbfab1: np. We're working on making this faster and less of a PITA for you, the user :)08:57
fab1good :)08:58
gmbfab1: It'll be some time this afternoon, when our sysadmins in the US come online. I'll send you an email when it's done so you can proceed with checking the imported data.08:58
fab1ok, I will be there08:59
gmbCool.08:59
mvohenninge: hi, sorry that I have to bother you. I got a mail from rosetta that my http://launchpadlibrarian.net/22584954/de.po upload failed to import (failure in line 5062). to me that line looks fine and msgfmt -c is also happy with the file. any ideas how I can further diagnose this problem? it happened for other imports as well and is not new. I'm just at a loss what to do about it09:04
henningemvo: Hi, no worries about bothering me.09:05
henningemvo: please tell me the package that this uplaod is for.09:06
henningemvo: This way I can look up the error mail and maybe tell you more about it ... ;)09:07

henninge_mvo: Can you please forward me the error report, then?09:17
mvohenninge_: sure09:17
maxbI think the build of ardour on kohnen has become wedged peculiarly (It's been building for 48+ hours, previous builds have taken 2h40m). Is there someone here who can kill it?09:18
mvohenninge_: sent09:18
henninge_mvo: oh, it is the "string not terminated" problem.09:21
henninge_mvo: That is due to a librarian bug that truncates long files. Sometimes... :-/09:22
henninge_mvo: Retrying usually helps.09:22
mvohenninge_: oh, interessting. would it help to split the string? i.e. "loonnnnnng" to "lo"\n"oon"\n"ng" ?09:23

henninge_mvo: no, AFAIK it is the sheer length of the file.09:23

mvohenninge: yes, all python.10:00

james_whey launchpad peeps. I'm having trouble packaging the latest wadllib15:16
james_wit makes use of doctest's ellipsis feature, but it doesn't seem to be enabled by default15:16

fab1gmb: because it looks like there are many missing items16:50
gmbfab1: Really? Can you give me a list, or at least some representative examples so that I can find out what's happened to them?16:51
gmbfab1: Yes, the import completed. That's why I updated the question.16:51

fab1in fact there are 802 bugs + 449 feature requests + 303 support request16:53

gmbfab1: Okay. Looking into it now.16:54
fab1gmb: and there are altoghether 789 items in LP16:54

mizipzorive created a project, and now i want to share the source... if my peer doesnt have bazaar install, just want to download and run it, what would be the easiest way to do it? up until now, he downloaded every file individually from the source code listing page19:59
mwhudsoncreate a release and upload a tarball/zip probably19:59
mizipzormwhudson: yea, i was looking into to that, but i didnt find a button for it and i assumed that the +junk branches couldnt create series or releases... am i wrong?20:00
mwhudsonoh20:02
mwhudsonyes20:02
mwhudsonyou need a project20:02
mizipzorhmm... i liked it small... it doesnt need to be packed or anything in any way (its a python script) i even considered writing a script that downloaded all the files in the source code listing automatically...20:03
mizipzorbut maybe i should do some reading on launchpads project methodology then, and create a project20:04
persiaOr work with the bzr folk: it might be nice to have a lightweight tool that could extract source from a bzr repo (either local or remote) without requiring a bzr install.20:05
mwhudsonprojects are cheap :)20:05
mwhudsonpersia: that wouldn't be significantly simpler than bzr20:06

mizipzorhmm... so a project has many branches, and every branch is a release, except for trunk/main... am i far off?20:07
mwhudsonum20:09
mwhudson"every branch is a release" isn't really right20:09
mizipzorim thinking like a svn tag20:09
mwhudsonthat's one thing a branch can be used for20:09
mizipzorused svn for years, but im new to bazaar... and launchpad... so its a little learning curve here :)20:10
mwhudsonbut for many projects a new shortlived branch is created for each feature20:10
mwhudsonunfortunately, the release stuff in launchpad is a little complex at the moment, and probably better matches the needs of a big project than a small one20:11
mwhudson(this is being worked on though)20:11
mwhudsonbut once you've created a project, go to launchpad.net/$yourproject/trunk20:11
mwhudsonand there will be a 'register a release' link20:12
mizipzorright, i just created a project... can i pull the code from the junk project? or is a new push better suited here?20:12
mwhudsonah, https://help.launchpad.net/Projects/SeriesMilestonesReleases20:12
mwhudsonif you go to the launchpad page for your branch20:12
mwhudsonand click the yellow pencil icon, you can reassign the branch to your project20:13
mizipzoryup, ive assigned the junk branch to the project now20:15
mizipzorhttp://code.launchpad.net/pyroids if you want to look :)20:15
mwhudsoncool :)20:18
mizipzorshould i create a branch for the trunk series?20:20
mizipzorreason i even create a series is btw just to get my release going20:20
mwhudsonprobably make your existing branch the trunk series20:21
mwhudsonevery project comes with a trunk series by default, so you don't need to create it20:21

mwhudson'probably' ? :)20:47
mizipzorhehe, yea, reading the question i cant really expect a good answer, its not really a good question :p20:47

maxbBut there's always the option of downloading the "deleted" source before it gets purged, and reuploading with a new version number23:03
cprov_16aR_: copy it back (with binaries if they were already produced)23:03
_16aR_because I've deleted 1 package (source + binary) because i wanted to upload the same version (I don't want to change it because the final goal is to upload on revu). But even when deleting then reuploading the same version : no effect23:03
persiaYou can't ever reupload the *same* version.  That's blacklisted.23:04
cprov_16aR_: you know why uploaded versions are blacklisted, right ?23:04
_16aR_ohh ! My new version appeared :) It took much more time than the first upload ! So i thought it was blocked somehow23:04
_16aR_cprov: no23:05
_16aR_I don't know why23:05
_16aR_hmmm, to avoid ppa hacking ?23:05
cprov_16aR_: because the new uploaded files will almost always conflict with the one you already have in poo/23:06
cprovpool/23:06
_16aR_oh, and it can't overwrite it with dput -f ? Or am I totally off topic ? :p23:06
cprov_16aR_: refraining you to upset your users, in fact23:06
persiadput -f is a client-side thing: does nothing on the server.  Soyuz doesn't support dcut (which is a good thing).23:07
cprov_16aR_: 'dput -f' override the local .upload file only, it has nothing to do with the upload processor23:07
_16aR_cprov: ah ok. For now I'm my user ^^ That's just to continue packaging a game depending of a library I just created on revu and awaiting replies :)23:07
_16aR_cprov: ok, I _was_ off topic ^^'23:08
_16aR_another off topic question : launchpad is developed in python, right ?23:09
cprov_16aR_: you know you can always upload subversions of the package you are aiming for REVU in the PPA context. Do as many subversions as you want and once you are happy you burn the final license.23:09
cproverr s/license/version23:09
cprovtoo much 'help contact' today.23:09
cprov_16aR_: yes, it's python23:09
maxbAnd, nothing stops you relabelling the version at the time you transfer it into revu23:10
maxbIt's generally considered a bad thing to put packages into PPAs with version numbers that look like they could be official packages-  because if that version *does* end up in the official archive, apt won't know that it should upgrade away from the PPA package to the official one23:11
_16aR_yes, you're right23:15
=== cprov changed the topic of #launchpad to: https://launchpad.net/ | Channel logs: http://irclogs.ubuntu.com | Help contact: - | launchpad-users@lists.launchpad.net
cprovthat's it, guys, g'night !23:21
