maxbThere's a single missing $ sign in ubuntu-jaunty-lbm debian/scripts/misc/prepare-compat-wireless.sh . Is there a committed around to save me filing a bug for a 1 character obvious change? :-)00:59

iahello. does anybody have some clues about how can my git lost tag for 2.6.28-8.22 kernel in ubuntu jaunty git tree? http://pastebin.com/m5c80ec6214:48
rtg_ia: try git fetch --tags14:51
iaoh, looks like git didn't loose tag; looks like in ubuntu jaunty git tree no tag for "UBUNTU: Ubuntu-2.6.28-8.22" commit  - http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/ubuntu-jaunty.git;a=summary14:51
iartg_: oh, thanks a log - it worked :-)14:53

red-lichtieI have a question about kernel packaging. As I see it, modules with experimental status are not build (delivered) as part of the standard kernel distribution. Would it not be better to distribute these modules and add them to modprobe.d/blacklist instead ? This way, if someone wants to use an experimental module, they don't have to compile everything ?19:32
red-lichtieOr am I missing a simple way of compiling a commented out module in the config and adding it quickly to my system ?19:32
rtg_red-lichtie: you can certainly edit the configs using 'debian/rules editconfigs', then build your own kernel19:44
red-lichtiertg_: I know but I was wondering if it would be easier to just blacklist the experimental modules and saving people from having to do a krenel compile19:46
red-lichtiebut I guess that they are 2 independant packages, so I guess that it might be a bad idea19:47
rtg_red-lichtie: black listing in general is kind of a pain. modprobe is undergoing some changes for Karmic that will allow the kernel package to manage the black lists.19:48
red-lichtieAnother question: I need to load the omnibook module to get my bluetooth to work, so I have to recompile it at every kernel update. Is there some kind of hook that I can use to recompile user modules when a kernel is updated ?19:49
rtg_red-lichtie: look up dkms19:49
red-lichtiety, will do19:49
rtg_red-lichtie: I have an example DKMS based madwifi package at http://ppa.launchpad.net/timg-tpi/ppa/ubuntu19:50
mnemoif I install one of the mainline vanilla kernel that apw packaged, how can I restore my box to the normal ubuntu stock kernel later? I tried "apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-generic" but that didnt work?20:00
apwmnemo, they should install along side the original kernel as they have a different abi namespace20:02
apwso your original kernels should be still on your grub menu20:02
red-lichtieCan I simply diff/patch from 2.6.29 to 2.6.27 kernel source ? The reason I'm asking is because I'm having serious problems with iwlagn, and according to what I have read, this appears to have been fixed in 2.6.29 ?20:06
mnemored-lichtie: often it works to take small fixes from .29 and apply them to .27 but there are no guarantees of course20:07
red-lichtieI can't be worse than it is right now :)20:08
mnemoapw: ok I did "sudo apt-get remove VANILLA" now and that worked, thanks20:08
mnemoapw: one more question... is it necessary to install source and header packages as well?20:15
rtg_mnemo: no, they are needed only if you are building external modules.20:17
mnemortg_: thank you20:19
mnemortg_, apw: I added a clarification about which packages are needed and also uninstall instructions to the wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds20:35
d3xterthe lan-driver shouldn't block the wlan driver, right?20:36
rtg_mnemo: looks good.20:38
