IOUbah i found it05:07
IOUhowever05:07
IOUMythTV module cannot be initialized, MythDB importing disabled05:07
IOUYou must have the MythTV module to make direct DB importing to work05:07
hadsCheck you have the python bindings05:07

hadsYeah05:08
IOUlibmyth-python is already the newest version.05:08

IOUit doesnt like that my mysql password has a special char in it05:45
hadsOh, that's not very nice05:45
IOUit doesnt like my #05:47
hadsYeah that mysql.txt parsing needs to be fixed05:47
IOUheres where i have to go round and change my myth password05:49

arocsHello , i have a weird problem with mythbuntu 8.10 and ATI x1600 Video vsync ...12:06
arocsHow can i enabled vsync with native ATI driver ? is it possible ?12:07
arocsWhen the image move from left /right i get some strange image distorsion ... any help ?12:09
perlmonkeyhi guys, i just installed a pvr-150 into a system, and although the dmesg looks ok and it records on cat test, its only recording static.. i got svideo input going in from a stb so i know it should be recording, i verified input on another card12:54
perlmonkeyany ideas? this is actually 1 of 2 pvr150's i got, the first one just won't even record on cat test12:54
perlmonkeyi also have been testing a Compro Videomate T220 which is a dvb/analog hybrid card, interesting I can get the analogue working in VLC, but not in mythtv or cat test, and the dvb seems to be a total non-starter, its not even creating the dvb dev's in /dev.. anyone got any experiences or info on this card?12:55
perlmonkeyfinally, I also have an adaptec VideoOh! card which is working ok in Mythtv, although the quality of recording is not great12:55
perlmonkeyany tips on how to improve the playback/recording quality?12:55
perlmonkeythink thats all for now  :)12:55
perlmonkeyoh, can anyone recommended a dvb/analogue input card that works out of the box?12:55
perlmonkeyeeek seg fault in pidgin lib12:58
=== bogus is now known as Guest65233
dromerhmm, so, someone frome #kubuntu directed me here: running the nvidia 177 driver I'm having trouble displaying in color on the svideo-out of my geforce 620017:09
perlmonkeymythtvbuntu doesnt work with any of my cards17:18
perlmonkeytime to switch to mythdora17:19
tgm4883perlmonkey, did you change the input you were trying to record from?17:23
perlmonkey:-/17:23
perlmonkeyi tested 5 different cards and couldn't get any to work properly17:23
perlmonkeyeven the Hauppauge PVR-150 which is considered to be one of the most popular17:24
tgm4883specifically, thats the one i'm talking about17:24
perlmonkeyok17:24
tgm4883since you said you hooked it up through svideo17:24
tgm4883I'm wondering if you told the card you wanted to use svideo17:24
tgm4883since you are testing with cat17:24
perlmonkeyyes, I hooked it up through svideo and composite17:24
perlmonkeyi just figured that out about changing inputs, on the one PVR-150 it worked i could record from svideo, allbeit only in black and white17:25
perlmonkeyi could not get any picture via the coax, but I guess that's down to the tuner17:25
tgm4883black and white?17:26
tgm4883sounds like a ntsc/pal issue17:26
perlmonkeythe other PVR 150 i have which I wanted to use as that has phono audio input for svideo, won't work at all. dmesg reports problems, and it just won't even record on cat17:26
tgm4883bad card?17:27
perlmonkeywhich is odd because I took that from an old working mythtv backend system I used to use, unless the card got damaged in storage/removal, not sure what happened17:27
perlmonkeyonly can think of maybe a driver quirk/issue17:27
tgm4883well the pvr-150 works OOB, so it's either a bad card or a bad install17:27
perlmonkeyyes17:28
perlmonkeybut17:28
perlmonkeyare all PVR-150's the same, you got the full and low profile ones and different spec eh, different ports etc.. revisions on boards17:28
tgm4883no, there are different pvr-150's17:29
tgm4883but the pvr-150 is discontinued, so they don't make new ones17:29
perlmonkeythe only card was able to work immediately OOB in Mythtv was my Adaptech VideoOh!17:29
perlmonkeywhich uses the same chipset/ivtv driver as PVR-15017:29
tgm4883yea the pvr-150 should have worked right away in mythtv17:29
perlmonkeyso something is messed up17:30
tgm4883just set it up as a harddware encoder card, setup the guide data, connect the two and scan for channels17:30
tgm4883well, import channels since you are using svideo17:30
perlmonkeyat the moment I have the Adaptech one connected17:30
perlmonkeyI'm not sure if this is a hardware encoder, I think it is17:30
tgm4883ok, well to increase the quality of those recordings, you will need to increase the bitrate17:32
tgm4883which IIRC, is under "Recording Profiles" in the frontend17:32
perlmonkeymy original plan was to try and use a dvb card, i purchased a Compro Videomate T220 which although is showing as supported on Myth wiki, it doesn't seem to be easy to get working.. unusually I managed to get tvtime and vlc media player showing analogue playback thru it, but i was unable to get it to record to file using cat!  also the dvb side of it is a total non-starter, it does not load the saa7134-dvb module, and 17:33
perlmonkeyok17:33
perlmonkey(T220 is a hybrid card, it has dvb tuner but allows analog encoding at same time)17:34
tgm4883well the key to good compatibility is to research the cards before you buy17:34
perlmonkeytrue, i wish i had17:34
perlmonkeybut it was a cheap buy so i decided just to try it17:34
tgm4883IIRC, the HDHomerun (although external) is pretty well supported17:34
perlmonkeycool17:34
tgm4883I am also a fan of my pvHDTV550017:35
tgm4883the HDHomerun has dual tuners though17:35
perlmonkeydid you ever manage to use a card OOB and never have to mess with driver issues or modules?17:35
tgm4883yea17:35
perlmonkeynot me17:35
tgm4883on all the cards i've mentioned17:35
perlmonkeyi will try this once last time17:36
perlmonkeyi'm wondering if Mythdora will be able to support hardware any better17:36
tgm4883fresh install?17:36
perlmonkeyyeah maybe thats good idea17:36
tgm4883i'd stick the pvr-150's in there and then do a fresh install17:36
perlmonkeyok worth a shot17:37
tgm4883once installed, set them up in mythtv, and if you are getting black/white, make sure you have the correct ntsc/pal setting17:37
perlmonkeyhow do I set it17:37
tgm4883it's probably some ivtv-utils setting17:39
tgm4883i can try and find it if you want17:39
perlmonkeyok ive just verified the adaptec card and its working with cat, its recording static for coax input and b&w for svideo17:39
perlmonkeythanks17:40
perlmonkeythe video quality on adaptec doesnt look as sharp as PVR-15017:40
perlmonkeyok its in colour now17:42
perlmonkeyall i did was change the Scart adaptor from my cable set top box, from TV OUT to VCR OUT17:42
perlmonkeyi also change to composite and it seems crystal clear now17:42
perlmonkeytgm4883: im making good progress now with your help, but don't waste your time looking for that ntsc/pal thing17:43
tgm4883good17:43
perlmonkeyok its not 100% perfect, but I think it's acceptable. besides this is analogue and thru composite eh, its to be expected not 100% smooth17:44
perlmonkeyi wish i could find out if the card has hardware encoder17:44
tgm4883yea, once you see digital tv, analog really does start to look like crap17:44
perlmonkeyif card is recording to a file, it must do?17:45
perlmonkeyelse I would need v4l soft encoding?17:45
perlmonkey*card = cat17:45
tgm4883no, it will record to a file either way17:45
perlmonkeyok17:45
tgm4883hardware encoding just means the CPU doesn't have to do it17:45
perlmonkeyyeah, how to be sure?17:45
tgm4883google17:46
perlmonkeythe card im using is VideOh! Media Centre17:46
perlmonkeyby Adaptec17:46
perlmonkeywow i found the box and it says hardware encoding17:47
perlmonkeyMPEG-217:47
tgm4883nice17:47
perlmonkeyso this card must be similiar to PVR-150, even uses ivtv driver17:47
tgm4883must be17:47
perlmonkeyi picked up a whole bunch of these for 6 bucks each17:47
tgm4883nice17:48
perlmonkeyliquidated stock all new in sealed boxes17:48
tgm4883yea software encoders17:48
tgm4883yea software encoders....I don't even mess with those anymore17:48
perlmonkeysoftware encoders suck eh17:48
perlmonkeyframes get dropped17:48
tgm4883i had one back in the day17:49
perlmonkeyi still got loads here17:49
perlmonkeyBT848 chipsets17:49
tgm4883i've tossed all mine now17:49
perlmonkeyyeah me too, into my old junk box17:49
tgm4883only hardware encoders or DVB cards now17:49
perlmonkeyi could have DVB now i got an antenna but we cant get many channels here, only a handful, until 201117:50
perlmonkeyso its not much use, thats why im using analague with my cable box17:50
perlmonkeycan you explain one thing to me please17:50
tgm4883that works too17:50
perlmonkeyyou know how cable have on demand on services etc.. that content can never be recorded thru commercial hdd recorders, always says copying not allowed, or encrypted.. but mythtv records it easily, why cant commercial products record and myth can?17:51
perlmonkeyim guessing the commercial products and collaborated with the tv industry to put tech into boxes to stop recording?17:52
tgm4883when you say mythtv records it easily, are you talking about with a analog card?17:52
perlmonkey*and = have17:52
perlmonkeyyes17:52
tgm4883yea, thats the analog loophole17:53
perlmonkeyare you saying with a dvb card it wont?17:53
perlmonkeywoah17:53
perlmonkeyso analogue is still useful eh17:53
tgm4883yea, a dvb card most lilkely won't even tune that channel17:53
perlmonkeyits worth having an analogue card in your setup to speak to the cable/sat box17:53
perlmonkeydamn17:54
Zinnperlmonkey: Please watch your language.17:54
perlmonkeyZinn: huh?17:54
tgm4883family channel17:54
perlmonkeywhat did I say?17:54
tgm4883damn17:54
Zinntgm4883: Please watch your language.17:54
perlmonkeywtf?17:54
perlmonkeydamn = swearing?17:54
Zinnperlmonkey: Please watch your language.17:54
tgm4883yea17:54
perlmonkeythats insane17:54
perlmonkeyis that guy a priest17:55
tgm4883yea, the satellite box is the only reason I have pvr-150/pvr-500's in my system17:55
perlmonkeydo you think analogue will be a feature of mythtv for a long time to come then, or permanently?17:55
tgm4883and that is only until i get some hd-pvr's and  mythtv 0.22 is out17:55
tgm4883zinn is a bot17:55
tgm4883!about17:55
ZinnI am an IRC bot written in perl, but my code is not yet released.  I am named after Howard Zinn, you can learn more about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Zinn17:55
perlmonkeyok17:55
tgm4883well they aren't going to remove card support from mythtv17:56
tgm4883that would be backwards17:56
perlmonkeyno i mean17:56
perlmonkeydo you think users will continue to buy and use analogue cards in their setups for the loop hole thing we mentioned17:56
tgm4883guarenteed17:56
perlmonkey:D17:56
perlmonkeybut this raises a question eh17:57
perlmonkeyif the industry is now moving to digital and hd video etc, it means compromising for second rate video with on-demand analog recorded stuff?17:57
perlmonkeythe good thing about on demand content too is the adverts are usually already removed17:58
tgm4883thats a complicated question17:58
tgm4883basically, it's multipart17:58
perlmonkeywho is behind the blocking of recording, cuz clearly theres some collabration going on, is it a law thing or just industry co-operation?17:59
tgm48831) don't confuse HD with digital, they are not the same17:59
perlmonkeyok17:59
tgm48832)  There are devices that can record HD in analog (well one, the HD-PVR)17:59
perlmonkeysince users have always had the right to record live aired tv shows, why can they not also have the right to record on demand/repeated shows17:59
perlmonkeyyes18:00
perlmonkeyso i guess people can still record in analogue the on demand but to a higher (hd) quality18:00
tgm48832a)  As long as the industry allows people to view HD content through component (analog) cables, then the analog loophole will continue18:00
perlmonkeycould they decide not to and block it?18:01
tgm4883the industry hates the analog loophole, which is a reason for the move to digital18:01
perlmonkeyis it technically possible?18:01
perlmonkeywow18:01
tgm4883yes, if you have followed the blu-ray/hd-dvd stuff, you will know that there is a flag they can use that will only output 540p over component18:02
tgm4883they haven't used that yet, but eventually they will18:02
perlmonkey:(18:02
perlmonkeyso whats in it for manufacturers of recording boxes etc, like hdd recorders... why are they building their analogue boxes even not to record on demand?18:03
tgm4883speculation for them not using it yet, is that most people don't have HDMI connections on their TV's, so they wouldn't see a large difference between the 480p and 540p of dvd and blu-ray18:03
perlmonkeyto avoid legal consequences of tv corps?18:03
tgm4883once the adoption rate is high enough, they will do it18:03
tgm4883about the cable boxes, IIRC it's a legal thing18:04
perlmonkeyok18:04
perlmonkeyso if u make and sell a device that's clearly intended to record tv, it would be illegal if it allowed on demand content to be recorded as well18:04
perlmonkeyyou would be giving people the means to breach copyright18:05
tgm4883very large grey area18:05
perlmonkeybut with mythtv its different, because its not intended to record tv specifically18:05
tgm4883like i said, very large grey area18:05
perlmonkeyi dont think their laws would apply18:05
tgm4883basically, it's all speculation because it hasn't been taken to court yet18:06
perlmonkeyit hasnt, but the manufacturers of the boxes dont seem to be taking any chances do they18:06
perlmonkeyyou cant record on any of them18:06
perlmonkeyi think its even above the manufacturers of the boxes18:06
perlmonkeyits at the chip maker level18:07
tgm4883well, I believe legally, you have to respect the broadcast flags18:07
perlmonkeyanyway its all a grey area like you said18:07
perlmonkeywhat i will do now is..18:08
tgm4883for instance, they can say (do what you want), or they can say (record once), or (never record)18:08
perlmonkeytry and run mythtv-setup and see if the newly tested adaptec card can work and perform ok18:08
perlmonkeyi see18:08
tgm4883http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadcast_flag#Pay-per-view_movies_on_Cable_Provider_Provided_DVRs18:09
perlmonkeythe way cable seems to be is, you can record anything that's live aired but not on demand18:09
perlmonkeyon demand is view only18:09
perlmonkeyits obvious to see why eh18:09
tgm4883exactly18:09
perlmonkeythat content is probably providing a lot of revenue for them, like premium content you pay to view18:10
perlmonkeyalso much of it is probably available to them on license from owners18:10
tgm4883yea, there are a few people in the chain that like to get paid18:11
perlmonkey:D18:11
perlmonkeythey don't want everyone recording and sharing it and breaking the chain/moula flow?18:11
tgm4883yea18:11
tgm4883although IMO stopping piracy isn't the number 1 reason that drm was invented18:12
perlmonkeywhat is the no1 reason18:13
tgm4883to stop the second hand market18:13
perlmonkeyoh!18:13
perlmonkeytgm have you tried mythdora?18:14
tgm4883i've installed it in a vm18:15
perlmonkeywhat did you think? does it compare well with mythbuntu?18:15
tgm4883for full disclosure, I should probably state that i'm a mythbuntu developer18:16
perlmonkeyok i understand, you may be bias18:16
perlmonkeyi've looked at the sites and content of both distros but not tried mythdora18:16
tgm4883it serves a purpose, but all my other systems are ubuntu, so I like to run a tight ship18:16
perlmonkeymy impression so far is that mythbuntu has the edge and is more organised and professional18:17
tgm4883thanks18:17
perlmonkeysome of the documentation on dora seems a little sketchy and the attitude of developers18:17
perlmonkeywhile buntu seems to be very well documented and the community is larger18:18
tgm4883they do a good job over there too18:18
perlmonkeyyeah I think its almost equal, its probably a fair choice between either18:18
tgm4883our community is larger, but that is more due to the popularity of ubuntu18:19
perlmonkeybut if you're used to buntu like i am, and coming from debian for 9 years, its easy to choose mythbuntu18:19
perlmonkeyive added my card in18:20
perlmonkeyi had to guess on the type, it came up v4l, but i selected MPEG, same class as PVR15018:20
perlmonkeyi managed to probe info tho and got it right which is a good sign18:21
perlmonkeythats not happend with all my other cards, even PVR15018:21
perlmonkey*it18:21
perlmonkeyis it necessary to add a video source?18:22
tgm4883yea18:22
perlmonkeythis part confuses me, say you only want to have your card hooked up to cable box, you still need tv source/schedule to record right eh, but for testing purposes you can bypass it?18:23
tgm4883you always have to have a tv source, even if you go into video sources and select "none"18:23
perlmonkeyah ok18:23
perlmonkeymaybe thats where i been going wrong18:23
tgm4883because then you connect that video source to the input on your card, then mythtv knows which card inputs to use18:24
perlmonkeyits interesting theres TWO sources for UK, why is that?18:24
* tgm4883 shrugs18:24
tgm4883<- US18:24
perlmonkeyoh of course18:24
perlmonkeyEIT scan is for dvb?18:24
tgm4883yea18:25
perlmonkeyMythTV was unable to retrieve your channel information for your provider.18:25
perlmonkeythis always happens :-/18:25
tgm4883hmm18:26
tgm4883which step are you in?18:26
perlmonkey3. Video Sources -> New Video Source -> Video Source Setup18:26
tgm4883what did you put for your source?18:27
perlmonkeyI put: Video Source name: Virgin Media  Listings Grabber: United Kingdom/Republic of Ireland, Radio Times... Channel Freq: default18:28
tgm4883ah yea, heres the problem.  You have to get the guide data from somewhere, or you have to select none for guide data18:29
tgm4883in the UK, i'm not sure how thats done, although maybe Daviey will pipe in18:29
perlmonkey:-/18:30
perlmonkeyit says..18:30
perlmonkeytv_grab_uk_rt: config will run in terminal18:30
perlmonkeybut i dont see any terminal or can't access it18:30
perlmonkeymaybe I should do this step manually after18:31
tgm4883you have to setup some XML thing to get it, I wish I could be more help here18:31
tgm4883for testing, I'd put it as none, you can always go back later18:31
perlmonkeyok no prob there must be some doc on this i expect18:31
perlmonkeyyes18:31
tgm4883yea, could be in the installation manual18:31
tgm4883!installation%18:31
ZinnSorry I don't know about installation%18:31
tgm4883!manual18:31
Zinnhttp://mythbuntu.org/installation_manual18:31
perlmonkeywoah18:31
perlmonkeyi switched from the 1st UK option to the second one (shown above) and now its doing something, its gone 50% and is halted18:32
perlmonkeyi remember from my experiences using mythtv some years ago (before it was even packaged into Debian/Ubuntu) that this step takes a LONG time, because it has to parse all the content from Radio Times website, or used to18:33
perlmonkeyyou would think they would of streamlined this by now and grab the content to one central location once weekly/fortnightly and then feed it in18:34
perlmonkeyi even considered offering such a service (free) myself for UK users ages ago off my server18:34
tgm4883well, right now, it's just getting the channels18:34
perlmonkeyok18:34
tgm4883it's not actually grabbing the data yet18:34
perlmonkeyI think it's stuck/broken now18:35
tgm4883well, it might be sticking it in a file for later use18:35
perlmonkeystill at 50%18:35
tgm4883thats also posible that it's just not working18:35
perlmonkey:(18:35
perlmonkeyi may have to CRTL ALT DEL it18:36
tgm4883hmm18:36
tgm4883yea thats not good18:36
tgm4883try alt tab18:36
tgm4883see if it's working in another window18:37
perlmonkeytheres like another box behind the main one, like its whited out if u see what i mean18:37
perlmonkeyok18:37
perlmonkeywoah18:37
perlmonkeyits just waiting for input in the terminal its ran18:37
perlmonkeyasking to choose char encoding set18:37
perlmonkeylooks good18:39
perlmonkeyit's now scanning18:40
perlmonkeyif I want to use just cable on the coax, i still need to tune/scan for channel right?18:41
perlmonkeyto get the frequency? its not like svideo or composite where you can plug a source on and its done18:42
perlmonkeyok it hasn't worked18:44
perlmonkeyit locked onto 2 channels (52) which i remember is the right channel number for cable18:45
tgm4883on the coax, are you coming from a cable box?18:45
perlmonkeybut im getting only white noise18:45
perlmonkeyyup18:45
perlmonkeyon the TV coax -> into TV input on card18:45
perlmonkey*TV out18:45
perlmonkeyso what went wrong eh :-/18:46
perlmonkeyit also won't let me change source using C key18:47
tgm4883hmm18:48
tgm4883over here, it should only work on channel 3 or 418:49
perlmonkeyi screwed up?18:49
tgm4883no, it's fine18:49
perlmonkeyi remember from past its always 52 for my cable for some reason18:49
perlmonkeyor 5318:49
tgm4883could be18:49
tgm4883it's whatever channel your tv has to be tuned to when your cable box is hooked up to it18:50
perlmonkeybut im only getting white noise so something is clearly wrong18:50
perlmonkeyoh18:50
perlmonkeyi use A/V normally for that18:50
tgm4883hmm18:51
tgm4883sec18:51
perlmonkeyim going to verify the coax is sending signal by plugging into tv antenna socket18:52
tgm4883sounds good, see what channel it's broadcasting on too18:52
perlmonkeyit is18:52
tgm4883then hook it back up to the card and tune that channel18:53
perlmonkeyBBC2 is on18:53
tgm4883it should come in fine18:53
tgm4883I have to run an errand real quick, but i'll be back in a few18:53
perlmonkeyok18:54
perlmonkeyspotted a possible bug19:08

perlmonkeyhi19:09
agreene1hello19:09
agreene1I got my mythtv up, but now it only shows channels 1-1219:10
agreene1the cable works in a tv and gets all the channels19:10
agreene1any ideas?19:10
perlmonkeyall the big cheeses are away on errands, only me here19:11
perlmonkeyare you using dvb or analogue?19:11
agreene1no problem....19:11
perlmonkeyI'm using cable too19:11
darthanubisagreene1, go to the frontend and add cannels19:11
darthanubisdid you setup a schedules direct membership?19:12
perlmonkeyyou can't get all the channels automatically from cable with analogue19:12
agreene1yes...I have the scehdules direct setup19:12
agreene1and it scanned all the channels19:12
darthanubisand you have to tell the frontend you have us-cable braodcast19:12
agreene1but only got signal on 12 of them19:12
darthanubisit is all in the documentation19:12
perlmonkeyphew19:12
agreene1sorry...I did read over the documentation19:13
agreene1thanks...i'll look around there19:13
darthanubisno need to be sorry19:13
darthanubisI was just pointing in the right direction. The direction will be clearer than myself19:13
perlmonkeyok heres the bug, when you go back to a Input Connections and re-scan channels, myth-setup exists/shutsdown instantly19:15
perlmonkeyonly seems to happen if you have a source selected for the input in question, if you set to no source, it will allow you to scan for channels19:16
perlmonkeysorry hope i explained that clearly19:17
agreene1thanks for the help!  got it working now.19:21
perlmonkeyok this aint working still19:22
perlmonkeytried everything, 2 days solid i've been on this now :-/19:27
perlmonkeyshould be quite simple eh, just want to record from a cable box via coax19:28
perlmonkeywhere is tgm20:01
tgm4883perlmonkey, dev meeting, can you hook the coax directly up to your card bypassing the cablebox20:02
perlmonkeyI did so and got some channels from my antenna, but poor receiption. i think it's impossible to do coax from TV out on STB, some guys in #mythtv-users say it can't work like that20:03
perlmonkeySTB = cablebox20:03
perlmonkeytgm: what do you say?20:03
tgm4883well, it's not impossible, but probably rarely used.  A more used solution is with composite or svideo20:04
tgm4883with coax, you have to lock the channel20:04
perlmonkeyok20:04
tgm4883and i've always seen problems when trying to do that20:05
perlmonkeyi want to do that because I want audio over coax rather than the hassle of composite and lead adapters20:05
perlmonkeyas my card requires 3.5" audio in and my STB gives L R phono20:05
perlmonkeyi dont got any leads to convert it, and i need to record something urgently tonight20:05
perlmonkeyok20:06
perlmonkeyif you think its gonna be a load of hassle to do coax, i will do the audio problem and go with composite20:06
tgm4883well you can try20:08
tgm4883you need to find out which channel your tv is set to when hooked up directly to the cable box20:08
tgm4883then lock the card on that channel20:09
tgm4883which is done in mythtv-setup20:09
perlmonkeyok thanks i will try it20:11
perlmonkeyyes its 5220:13
perlmonkeyi just did it, thats the same as what my card is set to, but yet that shows white noise20:13
tgm4883ok, in mythtv-setup, you connected tuner1 to your video source20:14
perlmonkeyok20:16
perlmonkeyPresent tuner to channel: 5220:18
perlmonkeyStarting channel: 5220:18
perlmonkeyVideo source: Virgin Media20:18
perlmonkeyinput: Tuner 120:18
perlmonkeyCapture device: MPEG: /dev/video020:18
tgm4883ok, but what about in step 4 (I think)20:18
tgm4883thats where the two are linked together20:19
perlmonkeyya that's step 4 i just did20:19
tgm4883ok20:19
perlmonkeylooks good?20:19
tgm4883yea looks fine20:20
tgm4883try using cat again20:20
tgm4883see if it gets video20:20
perlmonkeywhat's Transport Editor20:20
perlmonkeyok will try20:20
perlmonkeyomg, it worked!20:22
tgm4883cat did?20:22
tgm4883or mythtv?20:23
perlmonkeyI think so yes, cat20:23
perlmonkeyi will try it again to make sure20:23
tgm4883ok20:23
perlmonkeyok false alarm20:25
* perlmonkey tests again20:25
perlmonkeywoah20:26
perlmonkeyits definitely working over coax20:26
perlmonkeyi had composite in as well as coax so couldn't be sure, i unplugged composite, used v4l2-ctl to set to tuner 1, and recorded again with cat20:27
tgm4883thats good20:27
perlmonkeyit definitely recorded what i saw on tv, using coax cable only20:27
perlmonkeywoohoo! i must of had a wrong cable in coax on card earlier or something, i got so many cables here20:27
perlmonkeyso now in theory i should have audio?20:28
perlmonkeycoming in the same stream?20:28
tgm4883yea20:30
tgm4883should work20:30
perlmonkeyi dont think this box has audio its a new install i gotta try and test sound20:32
tgm4883yea test some sound outside of mythtv20:38
perlmonkeyI got no sound :(20:54
perlmonkeyim playing a wav file on loop with mplayer but no audio on this system at all20:54
perlmonkeysomething is missing or broken20:54
perlmonkeyI fixed it20:58
Claw6hello i pluged an external HDD to my htpc... now how can i scan for all media on it?21:38

tgm4883does anyone have 8.10 or 9.04 master backend handy?22:54
hadsYeah, 8.1022:56
tgm4883hads, can you check the status of bug 15693522:57
ZinnBug 156935 in mythbuntu "cubert.itri.brighton.ac.uk entry in mySQL privileges database" [Low, Confirmed] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/15693522:57
tgm4883it should be fixed22:57
tgm4883basically, the build server used to have a user entry in mysql22:58
hadsI don't have one, but I don't reacall seeing one ever.22:59
tgm4883ok, i'm going to close that then22:59
tgm4883it should be fixed as canonical builds our disks now23:00
hadsNone in a friends either.23:01
pinionok, so I'm a little new to this init.d23:01
pinionI started the service by doing /etc/init.d/sab start23:01
pinionhow do I make it start at boot?23:01

hadsIf it's from a package then it will usually start by default23:02
pinionok23:03
hadsYOu can adjust things with update-rc.d23:03
pinionthanks23:03
pinionok23:03
pinionwhere is that?23:03
hadsIt's an executable, you run it from the command line23:04
perlmonkeymany thanks guys, tgm, you're the top guy23:06
perlmonkeyi was able to record the show for my friend thanks to your help23:07
tgm4883perlmonkey, glad it worked out23:08
perlmonkeytgm something strange happened when i recorded23:08
perlmonkeyi had setup my cable box so it played the show thru my tv via Scart lead (you dont have Scart in USA right?) and coax into my myth box23:09
perlmonkeylike 10 seconds into the show starting (on demand show) immediately the TV screen went blank and a window popped up (from HDD recorder osd and said Copying Prohibited. Cannot View... meanwhile mythtv played the show normally and recorded it23:10
perlmonkeybecause it was going through my commercial hdd recorder to TV eh23:11
perlmonkeyinitially i had no sound in mythtv, even tho i had sound on PC23:12
perlmonkeybut i adjusted some settings in General Setup on frontend and that fixed it23:12
perlmonkeymythtv rocks23:13
perlmonkeynow im encouraged to write up my experience and test more cards and hardware23:13
perlmonkeyi've learned some good skills to be able to do testing23:14
tgm4883perlmonkey, sounds like the pop up was just a info message from your recorder23:15
perlmonkeytgm4883: yes it blocked me from seeing the show on my tv23:15
perlmonkeyrefused to play the picture23:15
tgm4883but mythtv recorded it fine?23:16
perlmonkeythats why i hate hdd recorders now and won't use mine23:16
perlmonkeyyup recorded it fine, sound and all23:16
tgm4883that is strange23:16
perlmonkey:D23:16
perlmonkeymythtv has the power to walk around encryption?23:17
tgm4883analog loophole I guess23:18
perlmonkeyyes like you said earlier23:18
perlmonkeyi proved it23:18
perlmonkeyive discovered that Adaptec VideOh! cards are practically identical to Hauppauge PVR-150 yet cost a fraction of the cost23:19
tgm4883thats a good deal then23:19
tgm4883are they still making them?23:20
perlmonkeythis is worth mentioning on the Mythtv community pages for newcomers or anyone wanting a cheap analogue hardware encoder23:20
perlmonkeyi'm not sure, but ive seen a lot being sold cheap constantly on ebay23:20
perlmonkeythey also have a receiver and remote with them and lots of cables23:20
perlmonkeyi would even say the Adaptec VideoOh! cards are better supported than PVR-150 as mine worked instantly out of the box in Mythtv23:21
perlmonkeybut PVR-150's required some fiddling23:21
