o0Chris0oHey Guys what are some projects that need help? I'm new,  Id like to help any way I can by giving feedback, artwork..etc. Its going to take me a lil bit to get going in the graphic field again, kinda rusty, and new to gimp and inkspace. Any help is appreciated. I have read the wiki pages and thought it would benefit me if I ask the art members themselves :)08:28

thorwilo0Chris0o: you could perhaps help with Breathe08:30
zirodayo0Chris0o: I'm no member, but you probably want to join the mailing list08:31
zirodayif you haven't done so already08:31
thorwilo0Chris0o: for everything else, we are close to a release and you have to set sight on the next, Karmic Koala, already08:31
o0Chris0othorwil: alright, I take that is the next version after jaunty?08:32
thorwilo0Chris0o: the guys at canonical are working on guidelines, so it's best to wait and see regarding everything. with the excpetion of Breathe, as it's a community effort that is not aligned to the release schedule08:32
thorwilyes08:33
o0Chris0othorwil: alright thanks for the helpful information :)08:33
thorwilo0Chris0o: being on the mailing list is pretty much a must08:33
o0Chris0othorwil:I am on it already, I'm quite new so I wouldn't know what to post  to the team or what not at this time08:34
thorwilo0Chris0o: you already know the Breath wiki pages?08:35
thorwilbreathe, actually08:35
o0Chris0othorwil: no but I can find them08:35
thorwilo0Chris0o: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/BreatheIconSet08:35
o0Chris0oahh that will help too :)08:36
o0Chris0oahh very nice08:36
thorwilo0Chris0o: this effort is headed by Cory K., going as _MMA_ in here. he tends to stay away at weekends08:38
o0Chris0othorwil: alright, good to know, does ubuntu theme have to be the orange, red, brown theme?08:40
thorwilo0Chris0o: so far it had to, but for Karmic, Mark Shuttleworth mentioned that brown "served us well", but it's time for something new08:41
o0Chris0oMark Shuttleworth is the founder of of Canonical right?08:44
thorwilyes08:44
thorwilo0Chris0o: do you have examples of the work you did online?08:46
o0Chris0oI'm afraid not, I have been asbent at graphic design for a few years, a little rusty08:47
o0Chris0oI have worked for the local newspaper here where I live as a graphic artist a few years back, doing ad design and layout08:47
o0Chris0oI have a lot of hard copy work I have done over the years , but none on the computer08:48
o0Chris0oI am head to bed, thanks for the info thorwil08:55
thorwilo0Chris0o: np. we are always in need of experienced people :)08:56

DanaGOh hey, who was it that made the most recent changes to the gdm theme?  I actually liked the previous revision better -- the logo was nicely, discreetly nestled in the corner instead of being rather big and in-your-face like the new revision.22:11
DanaGThe little login input-box surrounding thing also reminds me a bit much of those old fake-wood station wagons.22:11
* SiDi thinks it's kwii22:11
SiDiping kwwii22:11
DanaGI do like the style of the logo, though -- the previous revision was perhaps the nicest ubuntu login theme I've seen.  Nice and easy on the eyes, and such.22:12
SiDiSounds like everyone's afk.22:14
DanaGAnyway, I figured such random comments don't quite make an ordinary bug report.  =þ22:14
SiDiI didn't see what changed in the gdm, btw22:14
DanaGCompare the old background to the new one.  The logo got way bigger, and moved up a lot.22:15
DanaGIt's more "in-your-face", as I'd call it.22:15
SiDiI didn't even notice22:16
SiDidid it just happen ? :P22:16
DanaGYeah, in recent updates as of yesterday.22:17
DanaGI was even using the gdm background as my wallpaper for a while on one of my older systems.22:18
DanaGMy current wallpaper on my modern laptop does the day-fade thing:22:18
DanaGhttp://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~dgoyette/hp-slideshow.tar.lzma22:18
DanaGHas to go in /usr/share/backgrounds, and I haven't set it up for the non-widescreen res.  I hacked at Fedora's Solar thingy.22:19
SiDi14.5mb wallpaper ?22:19
DanaGEr, lemme see if I just post it as a dir instead.22:19
SiDii'm 12 mins from FINALLY having that OpenSolaris LiveCD22:20
* SiDi is excited22:20
DanaGOh yeah, I tried the OpenSolaris 2008 LiveCD.... it failed at lots of my hardware.22:21
SiDiI just wanna learn how to compile my meant-to-be-cross-platform-bittorren-client :D22:23
DanaGIntel wifi not work, not new enough radeon driver (thus used vesa), and no working hda audio.22:23
DanaGhttp://www.csc.calpoly.edu/~dgoyette/hp-slideshow22:24
DanaGwide is the only one I've set up.22:26
SiDihehehe radeon drivers.. :P22:27
DanaGI'm using the open-source radeon driver from git, on my HD3650.22:27
DanaGfglrx has only ever worked for me for ONE version of fglrx.22:27
DanaGhttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/31460022:28
ubottuUbuntu bug 314600 in fglrx-installer "fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic" [Undecided,Fix released]22:28
DanaGnot fixed.22:28
DanaGI'm not sure what to mark it.22:28
SiDiThey must be desperate... and you know, with new xorg and new ati drivers coming, i doubt people will work on old drivers' bugs22:28
DanaGThe problem is, the brand new 8.600 is just as broken!22:29
DanaGThey marked it fixed without even asking.  =þ22:29
DanaGAnyway, sort of off-topic for this channel.22:29
DanaGI do like having my wallpaper change color over the day -- that'd be something cool for the Ubuntu art-workers (yeah, not a great word) to look into.22:29
SiDithere's a script that updates the wallpaper, right ?22:30
DanaGIt's an xml file, so libgnome-bg (or something like that) does it automatically.22:30
DanaGIt fades over the course of two hours.22:31
SiDiOkies :)22:32
SiDiI need to go, see you22:32
