salty-horsehi. any main sponsors around?11:54
renergythe fonts look now as in ubuntu! thanks a lot!18:21
renergythe "cleartype" use flag in cairo did the trick18:22
renergyuh, sorry - that belonged to #gentoo-desktop18:25
hyperairlol18:45
hyperairyou know ubuntu is where you belong when you customize your <insert distro here> installation to be like ubuntu.18:45
renergyhyperair: thanks for the info, but I politely disagree with you - I think I would not have found the info about the relevant use flag at #ubuntu18:48
hyperairof course you wouldn't18:48
dobeyubuntu doesn't have 'use flags'18:48
renergyindeed :-)18:48
hyperairprecisely18:48
hyperairbut my statement comes from my time with archlinux18:49
renergyah18:49
hyperairi recompiled a few parts of my system to be like ubuntu =p18:49
hyperairyeah so it's rather pointless switching after all18:49
hyperairin my case18:49
renergywell actually it's somehow similar in my case - I switched from ubuntu to gentoo, and I'm now tuning the gentoo to look like ubuntu :)18:51
hyperairhah see =p18:51
hyperairwell it's always worth the experience, but you might find yourself back in ubuntu someday ;)18:52
hyperairthat's how it was for me18:52
renergyyeah that's what I'm writing - it's not pointless I would say - one get the knowledge how the system works, more with gentoo than with ubuntu18:52
* hyperair nods18:53
renergyactually in my case it's also somehow "back to roots" - the first distro I had was slackware, back in 1997 or so - updated it by hand at that time, and rather quickly ran into what is called "dependency hell"18:53
hyperairwell i have this belief that the package manager is the heart of every distro. learn to package, and you'll learn more about the distro =p18:53
hyperairdependency hell eh. i've never encountered that, thanks to apt and it's sudoku-solving capabilities =p18:54
renergyit's now rather pleasent surprise just to watch how the gentoo (emerge, portage) is beatifully doing automagically what I have done by hands before :)18:54
