cyclopsogra, hi. thanks again for help. I rebuilt the patch-kernel and made some config changes & cluster nodes now boot up. Have 2 as test units.14:36
cyclopsdiego@jessica:~$ sudo krgadm nodes14:36

whatchI installed ubuntu 8.10 on a dell optiplex desktop, and added the education software to make it edubuntu.  It is serving thin clients via xdmcp.  Tux paint is in the education menu but when you select it nothing happens.  I have tried reinstalling from synaptic but with no luck.14:36
whatchsuggestions to remedy appreciated14:37

cyclopshi all , would it be possible to have a swap file inside a chroot directory available to clients booting via tftp?18:41
alkisgcyclops: is there a problem with the nbd swapping method?18:42
cyclopsalkisg, I am running a cluster via tftp boot. nodes are showing up , but with live ram memory. I could use a swap file if it were doable.18:46
alkisgcyclops: isn't your chroot transferred to the clients as an nbd image?18:50
cyclopsyes.18:51
alkisgSo, a swap file would use tempfs and nbd.18:52
alkisgWhy not use the nbd swap deamon that is already installed with ltsp?18:52
cyclopsmaybe i didn't create it when installing ubuntu in chroot /nfsroot18:52
alkisgcyclops: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/LtsConf#USE_NBD_SWAP18:53
cyclopsI didn't install ltsp, went straight to config cluster for nodes.18:53
alkisgIt's just an entry in lts.conf...18:53
alkisgAh, so you would just use the same service18:54
alkisg*could18:54
cyclopsI will look into the ltsp swap , thanks18:54
alkisgSee also this: http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/SwapNbd18:55
alkisgIt looks ancient, but maybe it'll give you the necessary steps18:55
cyclopsam reading it now. It might do the job. thanks18:57
