[01:42] Has anyone have the jaunty UNR installed if so are you having issues with the touch pad ??? (model Eee PC 701SD) [02:44] sorry for re asking this question... but I have just installed jaunty UNR on my Eee PC 701SD only to discover that the touch-pad is very slow to respond! even with acceleration and sensitivity set to maximum it is still very sluggish... has anyone else noticed this ??? [03:26] hello all [03:27] any word on where there is gong to be a beta out for the mini.iso? [06:01] hi all, which ISO is in most need of testing at the moment? [06:02] I'm currently downloading Xubuntu [06:02] but I notice the status has gone to 5/5 over the last day or so [06:03] jaunty beta is released; we're not doing ISO testing per se at this point [06:03] doh, should have checked for that first [06:03] ok d/l cancelled [06:04] so what needs more testing now? [06:05] well, there's http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/jaunty/beta#Testing wanted [06:10] ok thanks, started d/l that [06:11] take care all. bye [07:04] Morning! [07:42] did I miss the announcement? is the beta out? [07:42] it is out [07:43] https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2009-March/000119.html [07:45] slangasek: cool, thanks :) === thekorn_ is now known as thekorn [08:40] morning davmor2, jcollado [08:40] Good Morning ara [08:40] Buenos días ara & davmor2 [08:41] Good day to you too jcollado [09:58] hi all [09:58] i am using ubuntu jaunty, and after latest update orca screenreader stoped working [10:02] what i can to do? [10:02] Aleksey_S: have you rebooted after latest update? [10:03] yes [10:03] Aleksey_S: the rest of the sound system works correctly? [10:03] for now i can only work with yasr console screen reader [10:04] yes [10:04] i tried start orca from console (just to see what will happen) [10:04] and python traceback appears [10:05] Aleksey_S: what is the traceback? [10:05] i cann't copy it to you, because i am now from windows - but here was about orbit.so library [10:05] Aleksey_S: when did you update your installation? [10:05] Hi, is this the right place to ask for help with the 9.04 beta? [10:05] what do you mean? [10:06] i always upgrading with aptitude safe-upgrade [10:06] Aleksey_S: ah, you upgraded from intrepid? [10:06] i did it last time may be half hour ago [10:06] no [10:07] i installed clean jaunty 9.04 alpha6 and updating every day [10:07] Where should I go? [10:07] Aleksey_S: can you file a bug with "ubuntu-bug gnome-orca" [10:08] how i can do that? i haven't access to gui now [10:09] Aleksey_S: through the console "apport-cli -f -p gnome-orca" [10:09] z1d4n3: #ubuntu+1 is the place [10:09] also, i have russian localization installed, and yasr screen reader cann't use espeak russian voice - so even in console output from most commands isn't accessible - it is in russian [10:10] can you describe what will happen after? becouse i guess i willn't be able to read output of that command [10:11] will it ask me something? [10:12] Aleksey_S: I am afraid it will [10:13] do you remember what exactly? [10:14] first, it will ask you to send the report, you have to answer "S" that's easy, but then, it will ask you to log in to launchpad (in a console based browser) [10:14] Aleksey_S: let me try one thing [10:14] pretty cool [10:15] Aleksey_S: let's try one thing. Wait a couple of minutes [10:15] Aleksey_S: I'll get back to you [10:15] may be i can save output on the usb stick and then access it from windows to send it to you [10:16] Aleksey_S: no, no. Just one sec. [10:16] oh ok, i will wait [10:16] Aleksey_S: can you access your jaunty installation anyway, can you? [10:17] Aleksey_S: at least through the command line [10:17] i can boot it, press alt+ctrl+f1 [10:17] login into console and start yasr [10:18] Aleksey_S: ok. Which is your launchpad id? [10:18] but most of the command have output in russian - yasr can't read that [10:18] Aleksey_S: no problem, it would be easy [10:18] i don't know. how i can get that? [10:18] i have account on launchpad [10:18] Aleksey_S: that's what I mean, your launchpad account name [10:19] lex@onm.su [10:21] Aleksey_S: OK. Done. Now, through the command line type "apport-collect 349480". That will add the necessary information to the bug. [10:21] will it ask something? [10:22] Aleksey_S: it won't [10:22] ok, i will reboot and try. after i will be back [10:22] Aleksey_S: OK [10:44] done [10:44] it will be not so easy you describet [10:44] it started w3m browser and asked me to login [10:45] after it asked what access i want give for the apport-collect [10:45] Hi... I have installed a fresh copy of jaunty unr on my Eee PC 701sd I have noticed that the touchpad is very sluggish and seems to jump around the screen a little I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed similar ??? [10:45] i am not sure i clicked correct links, i was very surprised that yasr gave me access to w3m [10:46] but after all adventures, it said to me that new attachment was created and uploaded, so see bug 349480 [10:46] Launchpad bug 349480 in gnome-orca "Orca stopped working with the latest updates" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/349480 [10:51] Hi heno beta's out then :) [10:52] is any one having issue with audio again? [10:52] i haven't [10:52] davmor2: I still have the crackling noise some times [10:52] Aleksey_S: yes, the data is there [10:52] Hi davmor2 [10:53] is it usefull? [10:53] ara: I got no gnome-volume-applet this morning [10:53] davmor2: I have [10:53] * davmor2 hits box with hammer [11:03] ara: is there something i can help to resolve this bug as fast as possible? becouse for now i can't work with my linux at all. [11:05] Aleksey_S: well, I am not expert in debugging orca issues. Jaunty is in development and, therefore, it is not meant to be used as a main system [11:05] Aleksey_S: bugs are expected... [11:05] yes, i know [11:05] Aleksey_S, I think there is a good chance you are affected by bug 349467 [11:05] Launchpad bug 349467 in python2.6 "update-manager fails to install todays updates due to "undefined symbol: PyUnicodeUCS4_DecodeUTF8"" [Critical,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/349467 [11:06] you have python2.6 2.6.1-1ubuntu5 installed, which is known to be broken [11:06] yes [11:06] so i can just install latest updates? [11:06] so maybe this is not a bug in ocra itself [11:07] "fix released" mean that fix is allready in repo, right? [11:08] Aleksey_S, wait a bit, the fix has been uploaded, but maybe not published on your archive mirror [11:08] how many i need? [11:08] i am using ua mirror [11:09] Aleksey_S, https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python2.6/2.6.1-1ubuntu5.1 shows that the fix ist still building [11:10] *goes to try updates [11:10] ah ok [11:11] so you have to wait at least until the package has been published for your architecture [11:11] thanks a lot [11:13] and if update will fix this, what i mean to do to notify that this is result of 349467 bug? [11:17] Aleksey_S, leave a comment at your bug, and either mark your bug as a duplicate of the other one or mark your bug as invalid [11:23] Hello folks! I'm thinking of doing the suspend testing on my laptop. Now I'm wondering if I need to make a full install, or can I run it from within a LiveUSB? [12:03] hi all [12:04] Hello [12:04] so, i am interested in became an ubuntu tester [12:04] what do i have to do? [12:05] abelsoares: What are you interested in testing? [12:08] \msg davmor2 so maibe stuff like multimedia apps, etc [12:11] abelsoares: you can go here to learn some more https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing If your interest is in testing the cd's so they can be released then go here http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/ and sign up. Also every Monday we are starting to run testing days which is probably the easiest way to start [12:12] \msg davmor2 ok, i certainly will read that and sign up [12:40] See you all latter [13:07] Hi I was trying to test the suspend and resume that the kernel team asked for in the mailing list and it failed. I couldnt shutdown the computer so I turned it off manually. When I booted back up apport picked up on the crash but when I tried to upload the crash report nothing happened. Update manager, software sources and deskbar applet is also not working. [13:10] Any ideas on whats wrong? [13:12] Shane_Fagan: apt-cache policy python [13:12] Shane_Fagan: what do you get [13:13] python: [13:13] Installed: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 [13:13] Candidate: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 [13:13] Version table: [13:13] *** 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 0 [13:13] 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages [13:13] 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status [13:16] mmm, I thought it might be because 2.6.1-0ubuntu5 was broken [13:18] I didnt get any errors updating and I only started to get problems after trying the suspend tests [13:18] If that helps [13:18] Shane_Fagan: yes, I don't think it is related to suspend/resume [13:19] Shane_Fagan: you might have started to have problems because you actually rebooted [13:19] I understand [13:24] ara: after looking into whats not working. It is the programs that use python that dont work all the rest seem to work fine. [13:24] mvo_: ^ [13:33] mvo_: Any ideas? [13:40] Shane_Fagan: broken python? that is a known issue, the fix for python2.6 just got published [13:41] Well apt-cache policy python came back normal so the package isnt broken [13:42] Shane_Fagan: could you please check what version of python2.6 you have? [13:42] Shane_Fagan: and check if you can update that to -1ubuntu5.1 ? [13:44] candidate is -1ubuntu5.1 ill see if it fixes the problem [13:47] mvo_: Fixed thanks for the help [14:00] cheers [14:00] Hi all, i would appreciate some heavy testing on wubi since it is a complete rewrite (if you still have a windows partition/vm somewhere, that's a good reason to use it) [14:01] davmor2, has been very helpful so far, but the more the merrier [14:02] Please see also: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1107950 [14:11] ogasawara: my computer failed the suspend resume test do I need to add it to the wiki? [14:13] ogasawara: Im asking because it failed to log the testing but apport caught it. [14:35] Shane_Fagan: yes, if you could add it to the wiki that would be great. also there's a column in the wiki for you to reference the bug# which would be great. [14:35] ogasawara: Thanks [14:59] Anyone here have experience with what looks like a redraw-bug with nvidia-177.82 driver in Ubuntu 8.10? [19:49] the test says "machine will suspend for 20 seconds", does it means that the machine will resume itself after 20 sec ? or do I need to do something to wake it up ? [19:50] And by the way, (I never used the suspend/resume thing) how do I resume from a suspend the nice way ? === jtholmes is now known as jtisme [21:30] anyone know about 'open-vm-toolbox' package on jaunty? [21:46] hello there. [21:46] My Ubuntu won't start anymore. [21:47] After an update today I am thrown to busybox. [21:47] It says it cannot find my disk. [21:47] And it suggests me to look at modules. [21:48] I have already concluded that ubuntu-latest is not for me , but I thought to sit it out until the end... [21:48] That is , until jaunty is released. [21:49] But this is quite problematic , and I don't really know how to solve it. [21:49] Is it a known problem? [22:10] so , wrong chan. ... :)
