Randall44Anybody out there?01:31
foxbuntuRandall44, once you have asked your question it is impolite to continue asking or bumping it every few minutes, please ask your question and wait. Someone will come along to help you as they have time.01:34
Randall44Thanks for noticing but 4 PM to 5: 30 is not every few minutes.  Thanks for noticing!01:36

hein_Good morning from Germany.06:48
hein_I've a question. I setup a new mediaserver with mythtv. I've on DVB-S card Hauppauge WinTV HD S", that works fine. Now I'll instlla a second card, a Tecnhisat Skystar HD 2. As far as I read it, the second card needs a so called s2lilipan (or so) driver and my Hauppauge card runs with the v4l driver. Is it possible to install both drivers?06:50
hein_qustion possible?09:35
slakrhmm... is it just me or is the site down? :(15:21
rhpot1991looks like it15:24
slakrah well... found a mirror for thet image anyway *shrug* :P15:27
slakrthe*15:27
slakrI'd have just used netboot, but I don't really wanna resolve the conflicts with ltsp15:27
slakranyway, cheers =)15:35
YmseHi what user level is there on this #??? Have some newbee questions.....16:18
brewmasterwhat's the difference between a channel's 'name' and its 'callsign' in mythtv?16:24
brewmasteri don't see the 'name' displayed anywhere16:25
tgm4883!ask | Ymse16:25
ZinnYmse: Please don't ask if anyone is around or if it is alright to ask a question.  Many people check back periodically and may answer your question when they see it.  IRC is not normally an instant fix so check back often for an answer.16:25
Ymseoki ;) First problem is that my Harddrive is not bootable after I have installed Mythubuntu. How can I fix that?16:27
foxbuntubrewmaster, the Name is the Display name shown on screen, the callsign is the name used to identify the channel from your provider, MythTV uses this to match up the data from your data source (ie. Schedules Direct)16:59
geniiI'm trying to set up a firewire connection to my cable box. The firewire test shows p2p packets, etc. But nothing on channels 0-4 or 62,6318:10
genii"partial lock" usually18:10
genii(with 100% signal).  STB is a Pace DC155PF, OS is 8.0418:11
geniiDC551PF  rather ...18:12
Penfoldwoah. clearly I need to go home, since my first reaction was 'Did MacOS 8 support firewire?'18:19
Penfold:D18:19
* genii hands Penfold a large coffee18:25
genii(K)ubuntu 8.04 ("Hardy Heron")18:26
Penfoldto be fair, I have just been speccing a quadcore hackintosh :D18:26
gumpert345hi, I have been to the mythbuntu website to look for a jaunty trunk repo, but all I could download was a .deb file that didnt do anything, what happend?18:29
gumpert345!trunk18:30
ZinnSorry I don't know about trunk18:30
gumpert345!jaunty18:31
ZinnSorry I don't know about jaunty18:31
genii!info myth-backend jaunty18:51
ZinnSorry I don't know about info myth-backend jaunty18:51
brewmasterthis might be a silly question: what is the max resolution for over-the-air broadcasts these days?  The stuff I record is 1920x1080, but how do I know if that's "1080i" or "1080p"?19:07
darthanubisgumpert345, http://www.mythbuntu.org/auto-builds19:13
darthanubisgumpert345, https://launchpad.net/~mythbuntu/+archive/ppa19:13
superm1gumpert345, that deb sets up trunk19:14
superm1when you install it it put the apt-key and repo in19:14
gumpert345I see, thats a good idea, a lot easier, than adding the repos by hand, does it check for your version by itself?19:16
rhpot1991brewmaster: should be 1080i19:16
rhpot1991as far as I know no one broadcasts 1080p yet19:16
rhpot1991in the US that is19:17
brewmasterrhpot1991: yeah, that's what i figured...19:18
YmseI have a huge problem with my boot loader...........and the file system on my HD......19:18
brewmasternot that it matters, with my ghetto analog tv :P19:19
superm1gumpert345, the versions on the repos will be newer than whats in hardy intrepid and jaunty19:23
superm1so it won't need to do any checks - apt does it all for you19:23
superm1just open up update-manager, synaptic, or apt-get and check for updates19:23
superm1gumpert345, it was tgm4883's idea, so thank him for coming up with it and implementing it.  I think it's totally awesome :)19:23
gumpert345superm i meant: does the deb file check whether i am using jaunty or intrepid?19:24
superm1gumpert345, ah yeah it does.  it puts the proper line in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ for jaunty or intrepid19:24
superm1it uses lsb_release to figure out what you are using19:24
gumpert345tgm4883 the deb file for trunk updates is a very nice idea, and works! thanks19:26
tgm4883gumpert345, your welcome19:27
tgm4883wasn't that hard to put together either, so now there is one for -testing and my personal PPA19:27
darthanubishttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1105313&page=219:50
darthanubis"There are issues with LIRC in general on 64-bit kernels and this especially affects the PVR-150's."19:51
darthanubisis this true?19:51
darthanubisbecause my remote and lirc worked in 8.1019:51
darthanubisnow 9.04 lirc fails19:51
darthanubisI go through this with each new ubuntu release, it's getting old:(19:52
superm1darthanubis, what caused breakage?19:52
superm1i wasn't aware of any such lirc breakage like that19:53
darthanubisit seems just the upgrade to 9.04 broke lirc19:53
superm1well is it the kernel that broke it though?19:53
superm1can you try it with an 8.10 kernel?19:53
darthanubisyeah the server won't start, compile or anything for me yet19:53
superm1it needs to be isolated19:53
darthanubisI don't have any 8.10 stuff around anymore19:53
superm1grab the 8.10 kernel then from launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux to try it19:54
bmsleightHi, I have been running my myth machine for a about three years. Time for a hardware upgrade. I am thinking of 3 of (Hauppauge Nova-T 500 dual digital TV tuner) - giving 6 unique feeds. To give extra flexibility or even more cards.   So the question is how many tuner cards is silly ?20:09
rhpot19911820:11
bmsleightWow - 18 cards ?20:12
rhpot1991Just picked a large number :)20:12
bmsleight:)20:12
foxbuntubmsleight, uh...I have 1120:14
foxbuntu:)20:14
foxbuntuI keep getting told its overkill/unnecessary...but I like it anyways :)20:14
bmsleightrhpot1991:  Ok - 7 Duals ?20:17
bmsleightI want to record lots of UK - Digital TV. Always have +/- 5 mins20:17
bmsleightmpeg-2 streams20:17
darthanubisbtw mythtv-status and mythzoneminder are also broken for me. Zoneminder because the It seems the kernels since 8.10 broke modules for my webcam by Creative. mythtv-status keeps mailing some error I don't have atm. I'll provide details in a few.20:17
tgm4883bmsleight, well keep in mind that you can record multiple channels from a multiplex with a single tuner20:18
rhpot1991bmsleight: nope, 7 total20:18
rhpot1991I have one dual tuner HDHR, and we don't have fancy things like multirec in the US here20:19
bmsleighttgm4883: Cool - I don't think I have that at the moment - thanks20:19
rhpot1991bmsleight: 7 is overkill for me, but it all depends, the most I ever use at once is 4 I think20:19
tgm4883rhpot1991, wha? no multirec?20:19
rhpot1991and some of those could have been pushed back and recorded later20:19
rhpot1991tgm4883: not for HDHR, some things might20:20
tgm4883oh20:20
tgm4883misunderstood you then20:20
bmsleightAt the moment with one dual card, I have lots conflict if I record program +/- 5 mins.20:21
rhpot1991bmsleight: so you record everything 5 mins extra?20:21
bmsleightThanks for the pointers - I may go for 3 dual turners20:21
bmsleightrhpot1991: I would like to record to, but do not at the moment, Hence, even with ntp, I get 1 / 20 missed ending of programs in the UK20:22
rhpot1991bmsleight: I've had a few of those but for the most part mine are ok, you tend to learn which ones run a little long and adjust20:23
bmsleightIn my current system (especially at 20:00) I do not have enough feeds to do overruns.20:24
darthanubismythweb does not show the mythvideo module either20:25
darthanubisjust some observations20:25
darthanubis[ -x /etc/init.d/mythtv-status ] && /etc/init.d/mythtv-status reload > /dev/null20:40
darthanubisDate: Mon, 30 Mar 2009 15:30:02 -040020:40
darthanubismv: cannot stat `/var/run/motd.new': No such file or directory20:40
darthanubiscan't have mythtv-status installed without local mail getting spammed with this message20:41
darthanubiscan't someone just remove this cron job from the mythtv-status script?20:41
rhpot1991darthanubis: then it wont work at all20:42
rhpot1991the cron job updates the motd20:42
darthanubis:(20:42
rhpot1991and I think populates some of the items you see when you run mythtv-status20:43
geniidarthanubis: Have you done:   sudo touch /var/run/motd.new           ?20:43
darthanubisI always get the weird s*&%20:43
darthanubisgenii, yup20:43
rhpot1991I think there was a bug on LP for this20:43
geniidarthanubis: Is it also owned by mythtv user?20:43
darthanubisI think so as well, but I don't follow bugs, the ones affecting me seems ot never get fixed.20:44
darthanubisgenii, of course20:44
geniiIs it's permissions also set +rw   or so?20:45
rhpot1991I'm not sure it should exist20:45
rhpot1991doesn't on my system20:45
darthanubisrhpot1991, what do you mean your not sure it should exist?20:45
darthanubis/etc/init.d/lirc start20:57
darthanubis * Loading LIRC modules                                                                                                          [ OK ]20:57
darthanubis * Unable to load LIRC kernel modules. Verify your20:57
darthanubis * selected kernel modules in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf20:57
darthanubisoops20:57
darthanubisafter modprobing my modules the remote works again20:58
darthanubisbut it should be doing this by itself from boot20:58
darthanubisso superm1 it does not appear to be that this 9.04 kernel does not work.20:58
darthanubisenough constructive criticism, overall, 9.04 is currently running stable, and I can still record my shows just fine. Just little rough around the edges. But each time by full release, things are generally working.21:04
darthanubisKeep up the good work guys!21:05

rhpot1991darthanubis: I wonder if you have a different issue with mythtv-status, it creates the file right before it tries to move it21:18
rhpot1991and I think that part is running as sudo as well (croned)21:19
darthanubisbut it seems the system maintains that file21:21
darthanubisand keeps permissions set to root21:21
rhpot1991oh wait, it exists?21:21
darthanubismythtv-status shoudl just be reading the file, why is it trying to mv it?21:21
darthanubisyeah it exisits21:22
rhpot1991mv: cannot stat `/var/run/motd.new': No such file or directory21:22
rhpot1991indicates it doesn't exist21:22
darthanubisI know what it indicates21:22
rhpot1991ls -la /var/run/motd.new21:22
rhpot1991whats that return?21:22
darthanubiswait21:22
darthanubisI'm sorry man21:22
darthanubismotd.new21:23
rhpot1991ya motd is what the current one is21:23
rhpot1991mythtv-status makes motd.new then moves it over motd21:23
darthanubisno no motd.new just motd21:23
darthanubiswell motd.new is not being created then21:24
rhpot1991let me figure out where this bash script ends up then you can run it by hand21:24
darthanubisk21:24
rhpot1991heh weird, changelog says it no longer ships it21:24
rhpot1991this is a new version right?21:25
superm1darthanubis, check the modinfo on the kernel modules and see what's up with them.  try to modprobe them yourself etc21:26
superm1once you can get the main part of the bug sorted/figured out, can get it fixed21:26
darthanubisk21:27
rhpot1991darthanubis: run: sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-status restart21:29
rhpot1991error free?21:29
darthanubissuperm1, http://pastebin.com/d7ced4e2c21:29
superm1darthanubis, okay so they're built and available.  try to modprobe them and see what happens21:30
superm1then checkout dmesg21:30
darthanubisrhpot1991, yes error free21:31
darthanubissuperm1, they modprobe just fine21:31
YmsePLease help me-........I tried for 10 hours to configure my system...................how should I configure the partiions on mythbuntu?21:31
superm1darthanubis, then try rerunning the init script and see if it still complains about that stuff21:31
superm1and check your /etc/lirc/hardware.conf21:31
darthanubishttp://pastebin.com/d3b2c241221:32

darthanubisjust in case you were wondering21:36
superm1hm interesting.  can you pastebin hardware.conf too then?21:36
darthanubissure:)21:37
superm1darthanubis, someone just pointed this out: bug 34487121:37
ZinnBug 344871 in mythbuntu "Lirc doesn't load modules" [Undecided, New] http://www.launchpad.net/bugs/34487121:37
superm1that sounds like it might be it21:37
superm1can you try removing the -k from /etc/init.d/lirc?21:38
darthanubisI can try sure21:38
darthanubishttp://pastebin.com/d7c65ae8121:38
superm1yeah that hardware.conf looks good indeed21:39
darthanubismodprobe -k $mod 2> /dev/null || MODULES_MISSING=true remove "-k" from this line? Line 25 for me.21:40
darthanubisI guess it is the onle "-k"21:41
darthanubisonly21:41
darthanubis/etc/init.d/lirc start21:42

darthanubisnot the same error, but I get the FAIL part21:42
superm1so that fixes the main error at least.  try running the script with restart as an argument instead then21:43
darthanubisprefect :!21:43
darthanubis:)21:43
darthanubiswell that's THAT!21:44
darthanubisThanks superm1 I missed you:)21:44
superm1darthanubis, add a comment to the bug that that fixed it and can catch it in the next lirc bug triage21:44
darthanubisnp21:44
darthanubisdone21:46
rhpot1991darthanubis: btw how is mythexport treating you?21:56
darthanubisI have not used it much since you fixed it and got it working for me:)21:57
darthanubisI'm taking a trip at the end of the week and will see if I can get video on my Creative Zen21:57
darthanubisI guess I don't need nuvexport anymore, since I don't record to .nuv21:58
darthanubisWill mythexport work with .nuvs?21:58
rhpot1991in theory21:59
darthanubisI remember a while back you advised not to record to .nuv as to beeter remove commercials and whatnot from my recordings. So that by the time mythexport got around to transcoding them the recordins whould have no commercials21:59
rhpot1991I believe I had someone tell me it did21:59
darthanubisinteresting21:59
darthanubisThat would be awesome22:00
rhpot1991really the question boils down to, does ffmpeg like them and I think it does22:00
darthanubisbecause I could save gobs of diskspace22:00
* rhpot1991 prefers to just buy larger drives instead of compressing22:01
rhpot1991I do cut commercials and do mpeg2 lossless for shows I keep though22:01
YmseI can't get GRUB to work on my mythbuntu................the computer recognize the IDE harddrive as a SCSI.............22:02
rhpot1991Ymse: I think evertying shows up as /dev/sd* anymore, sata or pata22:02
Ymseoki.............but I still can't get the freaking computer to boot from the HD.............22:03
darthanubisrhpot1991, Yeah my next HD purchase will be the 1TB for aprox $9022:06
rhpot1991darthanubis: 1.5tb is the sweet spot now22:07
rhpot1991can score that for 100-11022:07
* rhpot1991 just got one22:07
darthanubissounds good22:08
darthanubisis that an internal drive?22:08
rhpot1991yep sata222:08
rhpot1991seagate22:08
rhpot1991they dropped the warranty from 5 years to 3, but still22:09
darthanubisnewegg?22:20
rhpot1991darthanubis: yep22:23
rhpot1991tigerdirect sometimes has decent prices too, normally not as good as newegg though22:24
darthanubissweet, I love newegg22:24
hadsThe 1.5TB Seagates are werid22:25
rhpot1991hads: if you have an old version you need to firmware flash them, that issue is gone by now though22:25
hadsYeah, I've had 1 DOA, 2 with the firmware thing and 1 which showed up as a 500GB drive on some motherboards.22:26
rhpot1991weird my backend doesn't want to use my HDHR properly tonight, keeps defaulting a recording to firewire22:26
rhpot1991heh hads you adopted too early :)22:26
hadsI'm not using them myself, that was for others :)22:27
hadsI'm quite liking the WD GP series myself actually.22:27
rhpot1991hads: I've heard complaints of them being slow22:27
hadsYeah, they are a little slower than the Seagates but have been plenty fast enough for me as media drives.22:28
hadsProbably wouldn't use one as a / drive though.22:29
* hads would use an Intel SSD if they didn't cost a million dollars22:30
slick666Hi all23:37
slick666I'm having a problem with mythtv and I'm trying to resolve it so I can record a show in 3 hours23:37
slick666When tuning a channel the Mythbox locked up completely23:38
slick666after doing a hard reboot it's asking me for the "Database Configuration"23:38
slick666I have no Idea where to start23:39
slick666can anyone give me some pointers?23:39
superm1slick666, check for bad hardware to start23:47
superm1a quick hard drive check, and memory check are best23:47
superm1followed by booting up off a live disk and run a file system fsck23:47
slick666you think the hard drive could be bad?23:48
slick666the system seems to boot up fine23:48
slick666internet, other things non-myth seems to work fine23:49
slick666I was hoping to configure the database just so I can get things running tonight23:51
slick666I can swap hardware do some testing later on this week23:51
superm1well in trying to debug a complete lock up, it's always best to rule out bad hardware23:52
superm1if it's got some bad sectors that when they get read cause problems etc23:53
superm1or if your memory has some bad bits that when get written to cause problems23:53
slick666I understand23:53
superm1if you are in a time crunch and think the hardware is good however, go fsck the filesystem and run a repair on the mysql tables23:54
slick666I guess I'm looking for the "Duck-tape" fix just to get the ting running for an (if it can) and do all the analysis23:54
slick666ok23:54
superm1if things are good and working again, then check the drive(s) and memory and what not tomorrow23:54
slick666cool23:54
slick666is there a command to force the system to fsck the drive upon next boot?23:55
superm1yeah23:58
superm1i think you just touch /forcefsck23:58
superm1or something like that23:58
superm1!google it23:58
ZinnSorry I don't know about google it23:58
superm1!google23:58
ZinnThis seems like a question that you probably could have solved by looking the first few results from a Google search.  Try to make sure to do the appropriate research before asking a question ( http://www.google.com/ )23:58
slick666yea23:59
slick666google helped my23:59
slick666got it23:59
slick666a more relevant question might be...23:59
