davmor2Good Morning ara08:29
mvohey ara, davmor208:30
davmor2hello mvo08:30
davmor2mvo: I'm going to run some upgrade tests this afternoon I'll let you know if there are any breakages :)08:31
mvodavmor2: execllent, thanks. the big outstanding issue is bug #353251 - but it will not prevent upgrades08:31
ubot4Launchpad bug 353251 in python-central "does not provide 2.6 symlinks for python-fstab (and others?) when python2.6 gets installed" [High,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/35325108:31
davmor2mvo: cool I'll keep my eye out for it :)08:32
thekornara, hi, I would like to learn how LDTP and especially ubuntu-desktop-testing works, is there any documantation you recommend to read for a start09:18
arathekorn: great!09:20
arathekorn: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Automation/Desktop/ and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Automation/Desktop/GettingStarted is a good place to start :)09:21
thekornara, thanks, and sorry for my bad google foos, i should have found this without asking ;)09:22
arathekorn: no problem :-) ask any time09:23
thekornhttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Automation/Desktop/GettingStarted  >> Go the newly created folder and run ./bin/ubuntu-desktop-test. That will run ALL the available tests.09:24
thekornhmm, this fails with an ImportError09:24
thekornis there any chance to run it from the local branch, ordo I have to install it system-wide09:25
thekornara, and maybe a second question: should I be able to run u-desktop-testing on intrepid, or is the development focus on jaunty?09:30
arathekorn: the development focus is jaunty. there is an intrepid branch at https://code.launchpad.net/~canonical-qa/ubuntu-desktop-testing/intrepid but it is not up to date09:31
thekornok, so let's start jaunty and see if I've more luck running it there ;)09:34
thekornara, I've create lp:~thekorn/ubuntu-desktop-testing/use_buildout to fix 353672, maybe it is usefull10:18
arathekorn: cool, thanks. I'll review it later today10:19
thekornsuper, thanks10:19

jtholmesdavmor2,  ping11:10
davmor2jtholmes: hello11:10
jtholmeshello i have a question or two about the test cases is this a good time11:11
davmor2yes go on11:11
jtholmesif i go here  http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Applications/Robots11:12
jtholmesthe right side of the window had several  kubuntu  tests but there doesnt appear to be a link from the home test page what am i missing11:12
jtholmeshad=has11:12
davmor2jtholmes: there is probably no link on the main page11:13
jtholmesok so how do i solve that11:14
davmor2jtholmes: my goal was to cover ubuntu and hardware this time round11:14
jtholmesah ok should i concentrate there then11:14
davmor2jtholmes: goto the applications page and add the link in the same way as the ubuntu ones11:14
jtholmesok good will do11:14
jtholmeslooked over some of what has been done and it looks great just what i was looking for but could not fine11:15
jtholmesfine=find11:15
davmor2jtholmes: Yes well after this round I will be working on kubuntu and then xubuntu and then etc, etc, etc11:19
thekornara, thanks for your fast answer on bug 353692, but I don't understand why this one is invalid, looking at ldtp.py it looks like adding `ldtp.setlocale("C")` to Application.open_and_check_app would automatically start any application with LANG=C11:22
ubot4Launchpad bug 353692 in ubuntu-desktop-testing "running gedit testsuite fails" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/35369211:22

jtholmesdavmor2, how do i get this page  http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Kubuntu/Applications/Kate  moved  to here  http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Applications/Kate11:30
jtholmesactually there are several like that11:31
davmor2most of those are older ones that we aren't using now the new ones need to be text only.  so they will need to be modified so they are text only.11:36
jtholmesok so no graphics/pictures so i can copy/edit and put in the new area?11:37
davmor2jtholmes: yeah that is pretty much what the aim was11:37
jtholmesok better understanding on my part thanks11:38
davmor2jtholmes: no probs11:38

thekornara, another question about testcases, is this correct: a testcases is marked as FAILED if an AssertionError is raised, any other Error indicates a problem with the test-code itself. If anything is returned by a test-case this means success13:50
aracorrect13:51
thekornok, thanks, all I need now is a way to SKIP a testcase13:54
sbeattiemvo: is bug 353534 something update-manager should address?13:58
ubot4Launchpad bug 353534 in linux "dapper->hardy->intrepid upgrade path leaves user with unsupported kernel" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/35353413:58
davmor2ara: have you updated today?14:07
arai have14:07
aradavmor2: ^14:07
davmor2ara: have a quick look at system testing what icon do you have?14:07
aradavmor2: the new one14:08
davmor2ara: weird mine is now missing the icon14:09
aradavmor2: :-\14:09
davmor2ara: I get the box with the blue titlebar14:10
mvosbeattie: yes14:18
mvosbeattie: hm, that would need a sru for hardy - this seems to be the releavent point where this change should be performed14:29
sbeattiemvo: I agree. It does make me wonder how many people are out there running a -i386 kernel.14:33
mvosbeattie: maybe it is something the kernel should have dealt with afterall14:33
mvoit could have ceated a transitional package for -i38614:33
mvoand called the -i386 something different (-legacy)14:34
mvoso that all default kernels get auto-upgraded14:34
sbeattiemvo: yeah; it's a nasty problem.14:43
davmor2mvo: ping15:22
mvodavmor2: pong16:03
davmor2mvo: I'm getting that hanging issue again on upgrade16:04
mvodavmor2: the download hang?16:06
davmor2mvo: yes16:06
mvoand one http download is sitting around waiting?16:06
davmor2mvo: hung on fetching file 1007 of 100716:07
mvodavmor2: thanks, hm. can you keep it a minute in this state and strace apt-get and http ?16:08
davmor2mvo: I can try yes.16:09
davmor2mvo: according to ps aux apt-get is not running16:11
=== cr3_ is now known as cr3
davmor2mvo: http lists /usr/lib/apt/methods/http16:11
mvodavmor2: oh, right. it will be dist-upgrade.py16:18
davmor2mvo: not listed in ps aux :(16:20
mvodavmor2: what is the parent when using ps afx ?16:21
jtholmescan someone tell me what wiki code ubuntu uses,  mediwiki ... ??16:22
davmor2moin moin16:23
davmor2iirc16:23
jtholmesthanks16:23
davmor2mvo: still nothing I think I know where the issue might be dist-upgrade doesn't exist muhahahaha it's evil.  I'm about to run a fresh test on 64 bit so I'll see if it shows up there16:25
mvodavmor2: hmmmm16:28
davmor2mvo: I've found gksu --desktop /usr/share/applications/update-manager.desktop /tmp/tmp54AnPU/jaunty16:33
davmor2mvo: weirder and weirder.  I just ran in terminal rather than via alt-f2 and it's gone straight through so I'm trying again on failed install16:40
davmor2it being update-manager -d16:40
davmor2mvo: the weirdness goes on.  This is working now that I've typed update-manager -d in terminal :-\16:44
=== cr3_ is now known as cr3
sbeattiedavmor2: pstree -p might be more useful for seeing what's still running/hung16:52
davmor2sbeattie: thanks I'll try and remember that in future :)16:53
mvodavmor2: hrm :(17:13
mvodavmor2: I *think* its some sort of race condition, I have seen this once in a kvm machine of mime17:13
mvobut was never able to reproduce it17:13
davmor2mvo: I can try again tomorrow and I'll drop try using pstree -p instead17:18
davmor2-drop17:18
mvodavmor2: thanks. do you use a proxy or do you have a particular fast or slow link?17:23
mvodavmor2: I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to reporduce the failure17:23
davmor224meg link17:23
mvoI guess that can be considered "fast" *g*17:24
davmor2mvo: push comes to shove I can drop intrepid on tomorrow and give you ssh access to the machine17:25
davmor2mvo: I'll try it tomorrow morning ping you with the pass or fail.  If it's a fail I'll drop intrepid back on and update it add openssh-server and you can run what you want on it.  Pitti did the same thing to fix a jockey breakage :)17:27
mvodavmor2: thanks17:27
mvodavmor2: how often did it happen for you so far (the hang?)17:28
davmor24 times out of 7 so more than half17:28
davmor2I think heno did most of the upgrade testing for beta17:29
