bytor4232In the Firefox profile, which file(s) contain the passwords?00:29
zoredachesignons3.txt looks like a possibility00:33
zoredachewhy do you ask?00:33
zoredachethe passwords aren't going to be readable...  If you need to extract passwords, you may need to install one of the password export extenstions00:34
bytor4232zoredache, I set up a new install and only wanted to copy the bookmarks and passwords00:50
bytor4232zoredache, I didn't want to copy the whole profile00:50
zoredachebytor4232: but there is are password export plugins (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848) that you can use.  Explorting/Importing bookmarks is already built in...00:52
bytor4232zoredache, That would work, except I don't have physical access to the server, just the files themselves.00:52
zoredachejust copying the files may not work, but it shouldn't hut to try00:52
bytor4232I figured it out.00:52
bytor4232It did work.00:53
bytor4232key3.db signons* bookmarks.html places.sqlite*00:53
bytor4232copied those to the new profile, worked great, all the passwords where there00:53

TheSheepso if you delete it now, you will delete both windows and xubuntu12:58
TheSheepyou'd have to install xubuntu again, this time not using wubi12:58
TheSheepthere is an option to use entire disk when installing12:59
TheSheepthis will of course delete everything you have on that computer, windows included12:59
jaume1but when i try from CD an error ocur, i thnk that error is from CD driver, because12:59
jaume1i have check the integrity of CD in other laptop and it-s correct13:00
Noisiawhat's the error?13:00
TheSheeptry burning the cd with the slowest possible speed13:00
TheSheepold cd drives often have trouble with disks burned with high speeds13:01
jaume1i have burnt the CD at lowest possible13:01

CrazyGircups-pdf has a log though: Tue Apr  7 12:57:22 2009  [ERROR] failed to set file mode for PDF file (non fatal) (/home/user/conf/PDF/test.pdf)20:36
CrazyGirnot really sure why20:37
charlie-tcaBut they don't show up there or is it not saving them, I wonder?20:37
charlie-tcaHmm, mine asks where to save it, just like other save dialogs20:38
charlie-tcaIs it perhaps the application itself?20:39
CrazyGirI wish it asked where to20:46
CrazyGirthat would be nice :)20:46
cody-somervilleThere is two options20:47
cody-somervillePrint to file20:47
cody-somervilleand print to PDF20:47
cody-somervilleI believe PDF goes to ~/PDF/20:47
cody-somervilleWhereas the print to file provides the ability to select the destination20:47
SlonkieCan you print any document to any kinda file?20:47
charlie-tcaMaybe depends on the app. Gimp lets you print a pdf anywhere20:47
cody-somervilleI haven't tried it with Jaunty20:48
cody-somervilleMaybe its a new feature20:48
cody-somervilleLet me try20:48
cody-somervilleAh indeed20:48
cody-somervilleThere is only print to file, no more print to pdf20:48
Slonkieanybody know a way of making .mw files to .pdf?20:48
cody-somervilleand that lets you select the file type20:48
cody-somervilleMacWrite?20:49
cody-somervilleTry opening it with Open Office and saving it as a pdf20:49
SlonkieDoesn't work20:49
cody-somervilleWhat is a .mw file?20:50
SlonkieMaple file20:50
Slonkieanyway.. am i the only one for whom gigolo doesn't work?20:53
cody-somervilleI've had a little bit of difficulty with it at times20:53
MemfisEvening, has anyone managed to get dual displays working with ltsp5? Only thing I can find on google is a mention of a pdf from disklessworkstations that doesn't exist anymore.20:54
Slonkiemy laptop (wireless connected) should be able to connect to a windows share at my mediacenter (wired connected) right?20:54
cody-somervilleSlonkie, yup20:55
cody-somervilleSlonkie, Do you see the computer in the browser?20:55
Slonkieis gigolo "the browser"? :P20:55
Slonkiegvfs-open: smb://stmc/sp/: error opening location: No application is registered as handling this file20:56
SlonkieThat's the error i'm getting20:56
cody-somervillehmm20:59
cody-somervilleI get that that location is not mounted21:01
cody-somervilleDo you have the gvfs server and stuff installed?21:02
Slonkienot that i know if21:06
SlonkieIf it's not "built in" i don't have it21:06
attitudelessCould someone please help me with installing the Adobe Flash Plugin for Firefox??21:07
SlonkieShould i install the package "gvfs" cody-somerville ?21:08
ikoniaattitudeless: you're using ubuntu - as you know, not xubuntu21:08
cody-somervilleattitudeless, sure21:08
attitudelessI have a AMD 64 processor, and when I download the .deb file from Adobe it says my architecture isn't i38621:08
ikoniaattitudeless: as I told you in #ubuntu you need to install the package flashplugin-nonfree21:09
attitudelessI'm aware I have Ubuntu, however there is a very rude user in the other room, so I will look to more friendly people to answer my questions.21:09
attitudelessWOW you're everywhere21:09
cody-somervilleSlonkie, You don't already have that installed?21:09
ikoniaattitudeless: no - you are banned from #ubuntu that's why you're here21:09
charlie-tcaattitudeless: If you have the AMD64, it is not i386, so that is correct21:09
Slonkieyes i noticed i do, cody-somerville.21:09
cody-somervilleattitudeless, Does installing adobe-flashplugin not work?21:10
attitudelessikonia- Please just leave me alone. I don't want to deal with you anymore. If you were not so up tight about a PM you would have found out that upon executing your flashplugin-nonfree command in the terminal it gave me an error.21:10
ikoniaattitudeless: you said that, I asked you the error21:11
attitudelessE: Invalid operation flashplugin-nonfree21:11
ikoniaattitudeless what command did you use, exactly21:11
attitudelesssudo apt-get install E: Invalid operation flashplugin-nonfree21:11
attitudelessoops! sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree21:12
ikoniaattitudeless: and you get E: Invalid operation ?21:12
attitudelessThat is correct21:12
ikoniaattitudeless: please show me the output of "uname -a"21:12
attitudelessLinux ubuntu 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 18 14:15:37 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux21:13
ikoniaso a 8.04 install21:14
attitudelessCorrect21:14
ikoniaattitudeless: what happens if you do "sudo apt-get install conky" (it should install a small package that is just used for a test)21:14
charlie-tcaikonia: being a 64-bit system, it probably won't work with the 32-bit plugin, will it?21:15
ikoniacharlie-tca: yes it will21:15

Robhello I have a tech question?21:33
charlie-tca!question21:33
ubottuPlease don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line, so others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-)21:33
RobI am trying to view other computers on my network and cannot find where to do that any help would be awesome21:34
zoredacheit depends on what you mean by 'view' if you meaan that you want to access windows file shares, then you should look at installing something like pyneighborhood, or fusesmb21:38
zoredache!fusesmb21:38
ubottufusesmb is a tool that allows easy access to shared folders (smb) on a network.  Links with more info: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FuseSmb21:38
Robactually when I open applications - system - shouldnt there be a options for network in this menu?21:40
charlie-tcanot in xubuntu21:40
charlie-tcaIt is not needed for many people, so why waste the resources ?21:41
Robthe only reason I ask is because I just switched from ubuntu and looked at the xubuntu documentation and that is where it says I should go to21:41
charlie-tcaIs it Shared Folders?21:42
zoredachewhat document are you looking at?  Is it online?  Perhaps the documentation is out of date and needs to be updated21:42
Robanother place in the documentation says go to places - network but it isnt there either21:43
Robwas a link through the help menu21:44
charlie-tcaWhat version of Xubuntu?21:44
Rob8.1021:44
Robi am just trying to send files back to my computer that I sent off it when switching from ubuntu to xubuntu21:45
charlie-tcaI think it should be Applications -> System-> Shared Folders , but I will research it later in the docs21:45
charlie-tcaI use NFS and SSH to send files back and forth21:46
zoredacheThe help menu brings up firefox on my system and has a local uri (file://...) if you can tell what page has that information it would help in getting that part of the docs updated21:46
Robok just a few moments please21:46
zoredachecharlie-tca: does jaunty have the smb thunar patches?21:48
charlie-tcaI don't know, never use smb here. It does have gigolo, for connecting to windows systems21:49
charlie-tcaI thought the smb thunar patch went away when we accepted giglol21:49
charlie-tcagigolo21:49
zoredachemaybe, I haven't been paying close attention lately21:49
zoredachesomething better then fusesmb, or manually mounting things sure would be nice21:50
charlie-tcaSlonkie: you still here? comments on gigolo21:51
SlonkieYep21:51
charlie-tcaKnow anything about file sharing with windows?21:52
Slonkiedepends what you mean21:52
charlie-tcaIs it any easier than fusesmb?21:53
Slonkiei diden't true fusesmb21:54
charlie-tcawell, nm21:54
Slonkiewhat's that? an gui for samba or?21:54
charlie-tcafusesmb is not gui, it is manual labor, I think21:54
zoredachefusesmb isn't that hard really, it just is stupid because a) your passwords are stored in plain text on the drive b) it doesn't work well with domains)21:54
Slonkiepassword for what?21:55
zoredacheor authenticating to the smb server21:55
Pres-Gasmount.cifs is the way to go really21:55
zoredachefor*21:55
zoredachePres-Gas: it gets painful when I access over 15 different servers during the day, and some of them have semi-unreiable connectivity21:56
Pres-Gashmmmm...if connectivity is unreliable, there is no real good solutionfor that21:57
zoredachewell the point is, that I don't want the connection to stay mounted unless I am currently using it21:58
nineteenfingershey folks... i usually use openSUSE so the wonderful world of *buntu isn't too familiar to me... i'm trying to straighten out a pretty gutless (malware riddled) desktop machine for a relative and since i can't get the suse liveCD to work on here i thought i'd give Xubuntu on here - it's my intention to grab some files from the NTFS partition, push them to another machine for safe keeping, and then obliterate the NTFS partition wi21:58
nineteenfingersth the built in system-restore feature that came with the machine - then dual boot XP and Linux on it... is there an Xubuntu live CD i can get that'll let me do that stuff? (oh, and i'm only very new to linux myself - i've been dabbling with suse for a few versions now but please consider me a newbie when giving any advice)21:58
SlonkiePres-Gas what is mount.cifs?21:58
charlie-tcaYes, the desktop cd is also a live cd21:58
zoredachethe command line tool for mounting cifs filesystems21:58
Pres-Gas!smbfs21:59
zoredache(aka smb1)21:59
ubottuSorry, I don't know anything about smbfs21:59
charlie-tcaYou can download it at http://xubuntu.org/get21:59
nineteenfingerscharlie-tca - and it'll let me access the NTFS partition and push files from that accross a network to an NTFS partition on an XP machine with no linux distro on it? (user abilities allowing of course)22:00
zoredacheit will possible to do that, it will be somewhat tricky though22:00
SlonkieAnybody aware of an application which will be able to syncronise a folder to an USB stick everytime i plug it in?22:00
zoredachethere isn't any gui installed by default that will allow you to access the network22:01
charlie-tcaA partition should be a partition, as far as it is concerned. It is going across the network that may give issues22:01
Slonkiewindows shares seems hard to get connected to :p22:01
nineteenfingersright... any suggestions as to a good way to go about this then? i've got a fallback plan going XP to XP to back up these files (all 15.3GB of them - most of them utterly terrible webcam photos i've been begged to save for some reason) but since the machine i'm trying to fix is full of malware i really want to avoid that if possible22:03
Slonkiewell if you only need it to transfer you chould use FTP22:04
nineteenfingersi might be able to find a 1GB USB stick if that helps matters at all22:04
zoredacheSlonkie: I am not aware of anything.  I suspect I would build a script using unison.  I would thend look around for some what to get the script triggered by whatever is automatically mounting the drive22:04
Slonkieall right, seems a little too advanced for me.. only been using xubuntu for about a month.22:05
nineteenfingersSlonkie - i need to transfer a big folder to another computer and then get it back after i've kicked the original box into shape22:05
nineteenfingersnot sure how to go about doing it with ftp though22:05
zoredachenineteenfingers:  if you have a spare USB drive that is formated fat, that you could make your backup too, that might be easier then backing up accross the network22:05
Slonkiewell surely that is an easier way of doing it22:06
nineteenfingerszoredache - i've got a 1GB drive and 15.3GB of files to back up22:06
Slonkieoh22:06
nineteenfingershaha22:06
SlonkieWell installing an Free FTP server on your XP pc and then transfering trough FTP is quite easy22:06
Slonkielocal i'm supposing22:07
nineteenfingerserr - as in both on the same network? yea - i'm sitting it my computer between the origin and target machines - all will be hooked up through a router22:07
Slonkieall right22:07
zoredachenineteenfingers: you could buy one...   If anything, I think this should be a reminder to you that you need to get a way to have your data backed up seperate from your computer22:07
nineteenfingersthough i could use an ethernet cable (got a crossover lying around somewhere too) to hook one right into the other if i need to22:08
Slonkiei suppose it 100mbit or above, so 15gb will take about ~30 mins trough ftp22:08
Slonkieit's22:08
nineteenfingerszoredache - yea i'm convinced on that matter - just need to get the cash to buy the hardware i need to set up a proper backup system - the folk who own this computer won't be doing that though - money issues22:08
zoredacheanyway, if you get the livecd mounted, and you have an ftp server somewhere on your network, then you should be able to install something like 'gftp-gtk' in the live enviroment and then transfer files22:10
nineteenfingersbefore i start this Xubuntu download... 8.10 or 8.04.1? i'm not so much interested in bleeding edge as in a stable system for my auntie to use while her daughters run the XP partition into the ground like usual - she's somewhat computer illiterate and i don't want to be involved too much22:13
Slonkie8.1022:14
zoredacheeither should be fine, both are pretty stable22:14
zoredache8.04 will be supported with security updates a lot longer22:15
Slonkiewow22:16
nineteenfingersmuch difference between them in use? compatibility with software?22:16
forces8.04 is the most stable22:16
nineteenfingersi just thought.... did i just ask a bit of a hot question? i hope not :p22:16
zoredachenineteenfingers: almost every version of every linux distro is going to have quircks here and there. and depending on how you use the computer you may notice them more with one or the other.  There is nothing in iether 8.04, or 8.10 that is badly broke.  The xorg in 8.10 works better with my video hardware, but may be completely irrelavent to you22:19
nineteenfingersah ok - that's as i'd hoped - i think i'll go with 8.04 purely for the security updates thing in that case... i think she'd be more comfortable with that as she worries a lot about security (rightly so with the kind of abuse the system gets from her daughters)22:21
nineteenfingersthough of course, even the most insecure linux system is probably going to be safer than any XP machine in that house :p22:22
shadytimhi everyone23:46
shadytimanyone try the intuos423:47
shadytimchirp chirp23:48
zoredachedid you have a question, or did you just running a poll?23:50
zoredacheThis is a pretty small channel, you might be better off asking that question on ubuntuforums or something.  I suspect that it is pretty unlikely that you will find many active people on IRC that have experience with a particular piece of hardware that was just released a week ago23:53
