ActionParsnipnewinLinux: you can create a folder on / some place and create a symlink to it from you home folder12:59
newinLinuxhow it is done??13:00
ActionParsnipnewinLinux: you will need to set the owner to your username and chmod it 750. you will then be able to access the link in your home dir and it will feel like a normal folder but the ACTUAL storage is done on the other partition. If you do any backups you MUST tell it to follow symlinks13:00
ActionParsnipnewinLinux: otherwise the linked data will be missed13:00
newinLinuxsymlinks?? cud you tell me??13:01
ActionParsnipnewinLinux: a symlink gives the impression to the OS that a file or folder exists, when its really just a link, its like a windows shortcut but gives more flexibility than allowing to execute something easier13:02

Laeborgwlan0 should be the main connection.19:29
joshjtlthx Noughmad19:29
Laeborgbut how does i specific that ?19:29
jason_froebeLaeborg - sudo route del -net 0.0.0.0 gw 192.168.0.1 dev eth0  <--- replace 192.168.0.1 with whatever your default gateway is on eth019:31
LaeborgThen I can use the ethernet on wlan0 but still be a member of the LAN on eth0 ?19:31
ForgeAusargh it looks like Chrome for linux will be GTK  :(19:31
jason_froebeLaeborg - correct.19:32

puddleHi i have tryed to install php4 several times. Through terminal and normally. I have tryed to look for the package on my machine and i cant find it19:40
jason_froebeLaeborg - what is happening when you plug in the ethernet cable is that your default route is being replaced with the ethernet route19:40
Laeborgnow its working.19:40

jason_froebeat least not that I could find19:41
puddleSo jason_froebe i need the correct php version for my os?19:41
puddleI see i see19:42
DocTomoepuddle: you might want to get rid of php4 alltogether. It is pretty dead19:42
puddleWell i am new to linux. But i wanted to learn php to avoid wasting time on irc19:43
puddleDocTomoe can you recomend me something then i'm not sure?19:43
puddleWhat about php5?19:43
jason_froebepuddle - php5 is the supported release and can be installed with aptitude install php519:43
DocTomoephp5 is the successor, and it's pretty much the standard since two years ago...19:43
DocTomoepuddle: do you have any prior programming expertise?19:44

jason_froebepuddle - you can see all the different add ons for php5 by doing aptitude search php519:44
puddleah okay cheers19:44
puddleI'll have to do sudo command19:44
DocTomoepuddle: you might seriously reconsider PHP then. You might want to start with something more structured like C++ or Perl - even Java.19:45
puddleBecause i'm not on as root19:45
puddlewait19:45
puddlei thought perl was harder?19:45
puddlei thought php was easy?19:45

jason_froebepuddle - depends on what you want to do really19:45
ForgeAusHaskell is difficult, or at least for me19:46
puddlei dont really know anything about programming19:46
DocTomoepuddle: it is. this is the point. PHP is too allowing, giving first-timers the impression that anything that works is actually a good idea. I've waded in blood of web scripts that were written by autodidacts that started with PHP.19:46
puddleNeed to start somewhere19:46
jason_froebepuddle - for web stuff, php or java would be fine19:46
puddleok i see19:46
DocTomoepuddle: If you seriously want to do some Coding, You should first learn a language that forces you to do some stuff the way it was tought.19:46

puddlecheers japonski_19:47
