CarlFKlive cd, root w/ networking, grub.... segfault.01:00
CarlFKinstalled 9.04 using alt installer.  used ext4 for / on sda1 which includes /boot.  I also had 2 other drives plugged in.  when I booted, I got "GRUB Hard Disk Error"  - thus the live...grub01:00
CarlFKgrub, grub prompt> root (hd0,0) \n  grub> kernel vmlinux \n Segfault01:01
cjwatsonplease report this to LP rather than here01:08
cjwatsonthough I have to say that a segfault actually sounds like something later than grub, perhaps something very early in the initramfs - grub itself runs outside the operating system's memory management and a segfault would be kinda weird01:09
CarlFKthe segfault is when boot live cd and run grub from a root shell01:10
cjwatsonoh, right, you can tell I'm tired01:11
cjwatsonplease report that using ubuntu-bug so that we get a crash dump01:11
CarlFKno prob - my report here is kinda ... inside out01:11
CarlFKis there a .crashfile I can include?01:16
CarlFKthe segfault does not say "core dumped" - not sure if that's what ubuntu-bug wants01:17
cjwatsonif ubuntu-bug can find a .crash file, it will include it01:26
cjwatsonoh, or maybe not01:27
CarlFKok01:27
CarlFKheh01:27
cjwatsonif there is a .crash file, you should get the icon for it01:27
cjwatsonyou might need to follow the directions at the top of /etc/default/apport first though, and then reproduce the crash again, since apport is typically turned off for final releases01:27
cjwatsonso 'sudo force_start=1 /etc/init.d/apport start', reproduce crash, click on icon01:28
CarlFKI think running sudo grub was hiding the crash from the user02:12
CarlFKchmod -R  777 /var/crash = "crash detected... "02:12

Rafikhi. someone asked why Ottawa (the capital of Canada) isn't in the listing for timezone selection but smaller Canadian cities are03:21
persiaRafik, It wasn't in the list of cities provided by the upstream list (zone.tab from tzdata2009f.tar.gz from ftp://elsie.nci.nih.gov/pub/03:31
persiaIt's possible to add it, but it would make more sense to add upstream.03:31
Rafikgood to know, thank you03:42
sorencjwatson: How would you rate the chances of having the graphical d-i for Karmic?11:38
cjwatsonsoren: don't know yet, I haven't checked whether it's working with current GTK yet. Probably better than for Jaunty though12:01
cody-somervilleIt worked okay for me14:16
cody-somervilleI didn't do a full install with it though14:16
