phoenixzxjjk: Right, gottit.. My X was hanging again, had to reboot.. After reboot I got the X error "EE open /dev/fb0 No such file or directory".. I selected "Start in low graphics mode for one time" which brought me to a text prompt, very nice.. So I rebooted, got same error, selected "Make new X config", had to reboot again, AGAIN got the same error, selected "Start in low graphics mode for one time" which finally got X started.. Any ideas on this one?00:00
skierpagemauri29, http://forum.kde.org/customizing-create-new-menu-t-36907.html is how you customize Create New... (haven't tried it). I filed https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191630 about the missing doc.  Not sure if there's a dolphin bug that this should be easier.00:06
Rob-tomsdale: I have a new problem00:17
xjjkphoenixz: no... why on earth is X trying to open your framebuffer00:19
phoenixzxjjk: Don't look at me, I never told it to do so :)00:20
phoenixzxjjk: Framebuffer is used for 3D stuff, no?00:20
xjjkphoenixz: no00:20
xjjkit's an in-kernel thing, it's mostly only used with special/embedded devices00:21
xjjkunless you configure it to do so you shouldn't be using it00:21
xjjkphoenixz: are there X config that you need? try mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf mv/etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak00:21
phoenixzxjjk: I moved xorg.conf out of the way, so I am not configuring anything here..00:21

liberviscosystem froze while changing application switching visuals in desktop effects in the middle of installing firefox in kpackagekit, I rebooted00:27

chxi am on jaunty00:28
phoenixzlibervisco: Hey, Im having the same problem over here!00:28
xjjkphoenixz: that's not so much an error as a failure, that isn't important00:28
xjjkand X looks as if it starts?00:28
liberviscoI rebooted again, disabled desktop effects, tried removing firefox again..00:28
liberviscooh00:28
liberviscoit said I need to use a more powerful package manager like synaptic (which now I can't install) or aptitude00:29
liberviscoso my packaging system is broken, bunch of firefox and related packages are broken and I've no idea how to fix it00:29
phoenixzxjjk: I get this not very well working bulletproof thing from ubuntu... with that error.. then it MIGHT work when I specify "run one session in low graphics mode only" something like that00:29
xjjkphoenixz: I'm not really sure what's wrong here...00:30
phoenixzxjjk: if it works, I go to the KDM login screen.. if not, I get command prompt00:30
xjjkphoenixz: AFAIK there's another error ocurring here00:30

gustavo_doleyb: how did you configured it? xinerama?20:34
dirtslayeris the red text a private message? i am testing now20:34
doleybgustavo_: i have nvidia, so I run nvidia-settings20:34
doleybdirtslayer: your irc program makes it red if it sees your name in the text20:34
genii-arounddirtslayer: Because hard drives are mapped now through a scsi layer (whether they are ide or sata etc doesn't matter)  hdparm only works in a somewhat crippled way anyhow. And sdparm, which would work ok with actual scsi stuff, also has limited function when the drive is ide mapped through the scsi layer as well.20:35
doleybdirtslayer: see, I will write dirtslayer, and now its red20:35
dirtslayeris the idea to do a hdparm -t /dev/sda5, then enable dma and do the same again?20:35
gustavo_doleyb: so do I ! with separated X screen and xinerama, my machine got really slow !20:35
doleybdirtslayer: yeah, that can help benchmarks20:35
doleybgustavo_: I did not pick separate X servers, I did twinview choice20:35
dirtslayerthat is one reason i was baffled, the faq talks about using ide /dev/hda directly and i see ubuntu has this scsi layer like cdrecord used to do20:36
gustavo_doleyb: really? when you maximize a window, it take both screens?20:36
doleybgustavo_: No, I don't want a window that big20:36
gustavo_doleyb: great! how you did that?20:36
gustavo_I did try twinview, but I couldnt find how to split20:37
new_bembergood night to all20:37
dirtslayerwell, i have decided to leave well enough alone, not to worry about it,20:37
doleybgustavo_: It was automatic.  I went into nvidia settings, picked Twinview on my second screen, that's all.20:37
dirtslayerglad i found this chat anyway20:37
iskindoyleb: Thank you.20:37

new_bemberhaha...20:38
gustavo_doleyb: or pastebin20:38

gustavo_doleyb: precisely. Yes k90420:40

ActionParsnip!fstab23:32
