dylan_car ramrod03:37
ramoni need to format it with NTFS, but i not appears for me, do you know why?03:37
doleybramon: Well I think it's because ntfs is an undocumented/patented/secret microsoft format, which linux software can only barely support with some marginal rw access, but can't create or repair.03:38
doleybramon: Normally people only need to create NTFS if they want to connect it to Microsoft(tm) Windows(r) systems, so they just go there and format it.03:38
ramonmm...so i can format it with FAT32 and than enter windows and format with NTFS?03:39
doleybramon: If you don't have a windows computer.. there are some livecds (or floppies) you can download...03:39

doleybnicnic: Also since that question isn't much about kde, you can ask it in #ubuntu, which gets more traffic.03:43

tomsdaleI have 3 plasmoids added, is there a way of tracking the performance of each04:05
tomsdaleactually im on jaunty since Alpha 5.04:06
doleybtomsdale: It looks to me like all plasmoids are in one process, so you can't tell without iteratively removing each of them.  (What are they that you use btw?)04:06

afeijoI ran dpkg-reconfigure, after responding a lot² of questions, and rebooting, now my keyboard and mouse dont work !!!04:11
doleybtomsdale: Well I also think the plasmoids are so vector-graphics based, that they encourage a lot of excessive compuation just to render a few little icons.04:12

pulaskipucko-: to anser your question I imagine it means to send documents from one's computer to be received by another's fax machine.10:45
ActionParsnippucko-: its all connects to the same communication infrastructure, just like computer to true phone call10:45
pulaskifor example I used efax when I had a land line it worrked well.10:45
pucko-pulaski, I see. that would mean, the other computer would really just be used as a printer.10:45
pulaskipucko-: essentially I suppose your right.10:46

ActionParsnippucko-: you can use soft fax where the faxes are stored as files10:48
ActionParsnippucko-: there is still a tonne of fax spamming out there which will eat your printing resources10:48

pucko-actionparsnip, of course, but my understanding is he wants the fax stored as a file, to be printed out on a fax on a remote machine.10:49
ActionParsnippucko-: that can be done too10:50
pucko-mumriken, på engelska10:50
pucko-actionparsnip, of course it could be done, but it's so silly that one would wonder why one would do it.10:51
ActionParsnippucko-: it probably suits someones needs somewhere if ou can think of it10:52
ActionParsnips/ou/you10:52
pucko-that's why i don't think thereÃ's an application that does just that. since it would essentially remove the "faxing" :)10:52
ActionParsnippucko-: you could port forward the cups service but you will have to lock it down10:52
pucko-pulaski, you can set up a printserver on the remote machine, and direct the "fax stored as a file" on your local computer to it.10:53
pulaskiActionParsnip: I like to send written documents to those like politicans via fax because for me anyway it seems more substantial than an email message.  I have received responses from many of them via snail mail.10:55
pucko-pulaski, yes, but that's different. then the receiving fax is connected to the telephone.10:55
pucko-perhaps it's possible to direct your fax through your cell-phone. not sure if it would work though10:57
pulaskipucko-: I see, so when sites like fax-zero claim they send faxes for free over the internet they are merely sending email messages?10:57
pucko-pulaski, no.. they most likely send it though the telephone10:58
pucko-through10:58
pucko-but they don't receive your "fax" from the telephone10:58
pulaskipucko-: thanks, I do have a t-mobile cell-phone but I purchased it before I learned they do not support sending faxes on their network.10:59
pulaskipucko-: I've found the fax-zero service less than satisfactory so far.  The don't seem to provide a confirmation that the fax was received as of a particular date or time.11:00
pulaskipucko-: Lacking an alternative, sans a land line, I quess I'm stuck with http://faxzero.com/11:02

ScorpKingneoandersen: do you have kubuntu-restricted-extras installed?17:36
neoandersencan it be just a flash plugin problem?17:36
yakuzii've a question concerning "Screen resize and rotate", i'm forced to use the open source ati-drivers (my graphic card isn't supported anymore by fglrx) but, as soon as i use "Screen resize and rotate" to put my resolution right (1680x1050 instead of the default 1280x1024) i get sometimes screen corruption flashes and sometimes my system freezes, now, i added in xorg.conf a rule on Device section with the option XAA for rendering, and i didn't have had a cr17:36
yakuzi far, but i still have the rare screen corruptions17:36

ScorpKingahmos: you can edit the sudoers file for that17:37

However I'm wanting to encrypt it, I'm wondering what to do to encrypt it between encrypting it locally with truecrypt and moving the file, or some sort of setup that allows me to mount it remotely as a share.17:40

ScorpKingariel: enter fish://192.192.192.192/ or whatever it is17:41

mjheagle8ubuntu is based on debian.22:37

mjheagle8what are you looking for in the distro?22:37

ner0xI'm tired of Gentoo, always having problems installing such and such.22:38

mjheagle8but if i'm not mistaken, they all work with debian. or at least most.22:40

mjheagle8i think debian is less buggy.22:40
mjheagle8i use kubuntu.22:40

mjheagle8and debian is better for advanced users because its more customizable.22:41
ner0xmjheagle8: Do they use their own tools to do so, I'm sick of typing commands in konsole. :)22:42
mjheagle8ner0x: if it has to be terminal customization, then yes. but you could get a gui for most things.22:43

ner0xjussi01: Why wouldn't you use debian if kubuntu installs from debian files?22:47
* jussi01 goes to bed22:47
mjheagle8ner0x: debian is the package type.22:48
mjheagle8ner0x: like an rpm22:48
geniiner0x: There's an explanation of basic differences here http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/debian22:48
ner0xmjheagle8: genii: I see.22:51
ner0xSo Kubuntu is a watered down debian?22:51
ner0xA most, user friendly version, I should say.22:51
devilsadvocatener0x: not really22:51
devilsadvocatener0x: debian is more about rock solid stability22:52
devilsadvocate*buntu is more about a simpler / richer user interface, so the software follows upsteams' release cycle a little more closely22:52
ner0xSo there are softwares on Kubuntu that are not on Debian?22:52
geniiCorrect22:53
devilsadvocatener0x: quite a few, actually22:53
geniiIn fact often Ubuntu packages are sent upstream22:53
devilsadvocatener0x: most of them, while they exist in debian, are at older versions22:53
ner0xHow is that possible if you use their package database to build from?22:54

ner0xOr am I incorrect int hat assumption.22:54
=== cesar_ is now known as Guest21966

PROject-Emeraldand every time I explain he's like "DEN Y DUZ SOFTWARE CUMPANEEZ AND PEEPL MAKE COMPUTRZ WITH WINDW0Z AND NOT LINUX"22:58
ikoniaPROject-Emerald: thats nothing to do with #kubuntu - please try to talk in none l33t speak, english will get you much futher22:59
demarcohelp please. kubuntu 9.04 broke my flash player for videos in firefox. does anyone know how it can be fixed?22:59
PROject-Emerald"Then why do software companies and people make computers with Windows and not Linux?"22:59
ikoniaPROject-Emerald: please stop now22:59
PROject-Emerald...Stop asking a question? Wow.22:59
ikoniaPROject-Emerald: this is nothing to do with kubuntu support discussion22:59
noaXessdemarco: what flash plugin is installed?22:59
ner0xWhat is the different between kubuntu and xubuntu?23:00
PROject-EmeraldI'm asking for support on persuading my friend into using Kubuntu23:00
demarcomost recent from adobe's website23:00
ikonianer0x: desktop is the core different23:00
demarco10.xx23:00
ikoniaPROject-Emerald: let him find his own reasons23:00
noaXessner0x: the X11 Desktop.. kbuuntu has KDE and xubuntu has XFCE23:00
devilsadvocatedemarco: is flash not working at all or are you getting no sound?23:00
ner0xikonia: I see. That's the only differences? hah, that's soft of funny.23:00
PROject-Emerald-,- Where's the Ubuntu general channel?23:00
noaXessdemarco: have you tried to uninstall it?23:00
ner0xSo kubuntu uses apt-get for installation?23:00
ikoniaPROject-Emerald: #ubuntu-offtopic may be a better place23:00
demarcoi get ads fine.23:01
noaXessner0x: all ?ubuntu uses apt-get23:01
ner0xnoaXess: Ah alright, I'm so used to emerge. :-/23:01
demarcosince the update it put an adblocker effect on all flash23:01
devilsadvocatener0x: the (graphical) tools used for management, etc, are different.23:01
demarcorequires you to press the gray " > " button to activate it23:01
devilsadvocatethe findamental difference is in that one is based on KDE and the other XFCE23:01
demarcobut videos do not respond. perpetual loading23:01
devilsadvocatener0x: you can always install one and install the other within it using an aptitude install xubuntu-desktop and such23:02
demarcosorry if i do not explain well23:02
noaXesswhat about the blocked update in kpackagekit?23:03
noaXesswhy can't i install them?23:04
tsimpsonbecause the kernel packages are not all there it seems23:04
noaXesstsimpson: but if i run sudo apt-get dist-upgrad i can install them..23:05
noaXessorif i use adept manager then i can install them too..23:05
tsimpsondoes it say that any packages will be removed/held back?23:05
noaXesstsimpson: yes if i run sudo apt-get upgrade.23:06
tsimpsonthen that's why it doesn't want to let you do it23:06
noaXesstsimpson: and why does it work in adept manager or over konsole with dist-upgrade?23:06
tsimpsonbecause adept doesn't care if it breaks your system, and apt-get  assumes you know what you're doing23:07
noaXesshm...23:07
tsimpsonif you use any restricted modules, then installing the updates will break that23:08
noaXessbut bye the way, in kpackagekit, there should be a way to upgrade also kernel23:08
tsimpsonthere is, once the packages are fixed23:08
devilsadvocatenoaXess: it might be some safe-upgrade full-upgrade related confusion23:09
devilsadvocatenoaXess: btw, iirc dist-upgrade is depreciated in favour of full-upgrade23:09
tsimpsonit's nothing to do with kpackagekit, it's the packages that are broken23:09
Deekayyo, where can i find the icon themes i downloaded ?(system settings)23:09
k0pphey guys.. ive accidentally broken `ps` on my machine somehow, whenever i run it i get a segfault.. but its not apt-getable, and i cant seem to find the source for it.. reccomendations?23:10

tsimpsonblackflag: [23:08]<tsimpson> if you use any restricted modules, then installing the updates will break that23:11
noaXessdevilsadvocate, tsimpson: ok.. see it...23:11
tsimpsonrefering to the kernel23:11
geniik0pp: Or procps23:11
tsimpsonDeekay: somewhere in ~/.kde/share probably23:11
k0ppinteresting.  ill check it out thats23:12
k0ppthanks*23:12
k0ppgenii, alot depends on procps, if i remove it so does like half of my system.. how would you suggest i go about reinstalling it?23:13
tsimpsonDeekay: ~/ is your home directory23:14
geniik0pp: Possibly something like:   sudo apt-get install --reinstall procps23:14
k0ppoh.. ;/ i never knew that was a flag23:14
k0ppheh.23:14
