Firefishetmurase:  any insights?00:01
tmurasethe /tmp/orbit- messages are essentially permissions problems.  You should fix those, but it's odd that they're occurring00:06
tmuraseI don't see anything fatal in your error log00:07
Firefishe...00:09
FirefisheWell, I guess I'm going to have to do some more digging.00:09
FirefisheI wish everything was as it was in the earlier days of linux:  you had everything for your user, and all the individual desktops in their own .file00:10
Firefishethat way, kde3 and kde4 would have separate hierarchies, and could exist together, and my xfce4 would have .xfce4 and there wouldn't be any cross-folder nonsense00:10
FirefisheIt could be that X is just hanging on some weird program that the saved x session is expecting, too00:11
FirefisheI appreciate the assistance, tmurase.  Thank you00:12
FirefisheWell, I"m going to check something...bye for now00:12
Firefishe:)  thanks again00:12

Wunderbarso, xubuntu has thoroughly annoyed me today00:35
Wunderbarcan't even get past the annoying screen with the stupid rodent like thing and the bluish background....00:35
Wunderbarwhy? you ask...who knows why...00:36
viddWunderbar, the screen with the loading bar?00:37
Wunderbarit's the one after you've selected your session...no loading bar in my config00:38
Wunderbarbut it's really, really annoying00:38
Wunderbarthere's absolutely no reason why it should be misbehaving00:38
Wunderbarit was working this morning and no settings have been changed since then00:39
viddso you get to the point where you enter your name and password?00:39
viddso you get to the point where you enter your name and password? Wunderbar00:39
WunderbarI get past that, I enter my details and then I get a flash screen of sorts...then a flash screen00:40
Wunderbarthen....flash screen00:40
viddyour /home directory is probably over quota00:41
Wunderbarit flickers black at the point when it would normally show my delightful desktop, then...flash screen00:41
viddget to a tty and run "df"00:41
Wunderbaridgi- Im not that smart- you going to have to explain as plainly as possible...00:41
viddctr + alt + f2 key combination will take you to tty200:42
viddput in your user name and password00:42
viddtype "df"00:42
viddcheck your avalable disk-space your your /home partition00:43
viddif its 98% or more, you over quota00:43
viddWunderbar, any luck there?00:45
* vidd gets this when he downloads alot of stuff and uses up all his hard drive space00:46
viddalls well and good untilyou restart00:47

Wunderbarhey vidd, could you repeat what you were saying vis-a-vis tty2?00:48
viddcan you get into tty2?00:48
Wunderbaryah00:48
Wunderbarwhat do I do from there?00:49
viddtype "df" (no quotes of course)00:49
Wunderbarand if Im over 98 percent then I delete crap....00:49
Wunderbarwell, Im not00:49
Wunderbarnow way00:49
viddso thenext step is to make sure you own your home directory00:50
Wunderbarexplain, please00:50
viddif your home directory is /home/wunderbar then type "sudo chown -Rf wunderbar:wunderbar /home/wunderbar"00:51
Wunderbarand that should enable me to log into the xubuntu set up that had no problems earlier, but suddenly became uncooperative?00:53
viddyeah....if you somehow took away your ownership of your home diectory00:54
Wunderbar-- r is an invalid option...00:54
viddtry it00:54
viddthe r is cappital00:54
viddand it -Rf ... not --Rf00:55

Wunderbarwell, at least I have that much...i can still log into other sessions just not xfce01:15
Wunderbarwhich I was quite enjoying01:15
viddso...then the issue is the session01:16
viddthat makes all the difference!01:16
Wunderbardid I not say that before...silly me01:16
Wunderbarokay, so what I should I be looking to do to rectify?01:17
viddyou probably did....and i misunderstood01:17
wobbiebobbiehi wunderbar I just like to know the problem you have with xubuntu01:18
viddyou should be able to remove your ~/.config/xfce4 file, and then when you log in again, it will be rebuilt01:19
Wunderbarwell, can't log into my xfce session, it allows me to enter the password, then I get the flash screen, then at the point when it would usually show my desktop I get a black flicker, then flash screen01:19
viddright....01:20
viddso if you delete the session, then the session will be rebuilt01:20
wobbiebobbiecan you  get to terminal01:20

SiDierm21:29
SiDidunno about ntfs ^^21:29
SiDiit looks ok21:29
SiDintfs-3g maybe instead of ntfs... really not sure21:29
Slonkientfs-3g is what i'm using21:48
Slonkie!ntfs-3g21:48
ubottuntfs-3g is a Linux driver which allows read/write access to NTFS partitions. Installation instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MountingWindowsPartitions21:48
Slonkieif you want read/write that's what you need!21:48
Roylapokay will go with ntfs-3g then, thanx21:50

martha_Hi does anyone here know about the dial via conexant modems, I know there is an open source driver, a proprietary one that half works if you pay for it and an dell one that I havent seen to many positive posts about23:15
martha_but the info is quite dated, I think23:16
martha_I am going to get high speed internet soon I just need dial up to work for awhile23:17
Wunderbarhisto, I can get rid of all the excess apps in my menu...how do I do that?23:17
Wunderbarcan't*23:18
martha_Communication controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. HCF 56k Data/Fax Modem (rev 08)23:18
geniimartha_: I've dealt extensively with this subject, to much frustration23:18
martha_I have the linuxant sources I think I just need to compile for my kernel, but I dont know how23:19
geniimartha_: The linuxant one is only good for 14.4 unless you pay them23:19
martha_I know23:20
geniimartha_: What is device:vendor ?23:20
DetroitLibertyP2Wunderbar: have you tried uninstalling them from the synaptic menu?23:20
geniilspci -nn            should tell it23:21
martha_abouve23:21
martha_above23:21
WunderbarId have to completely remove kubuntu23:21
Wunderbarit won't let me just remove the apps23:21
martha_genii, 01:0b.0 Communication controller [0780]: Conexant Systems, Inc. HCF 56k Data/Fax Modem [14f1:1033] (rev 08)23:21
geniimartha_: "Communication controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. HCF 56k Data/Fax Modem (rev 08)" does NOT contain vendor:device code in it. You want to look for something like 14f1:ancd23:22
Wunderbarwhat would be be the best way to remove kubuntu- what with it being a complete waste of space...23:22
geniimartha_: OK, hang on a bit23:22
martha_sorry23:22
geniimartha_: Unfortunately 14f1:1033 is not a combination which the Dell full-speed Ubuntu driver will see and set up. So you have two opetions: Pay for Linuxant, or else try to go the manual route.23:24
martha_genii, what is the manual route23:25
geniimartha_: I'll give you link shortly23:25
martha_and where did you find that info23:25
geniimartha_: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=19072823:26
geniimartha_: I have atm over 500 Conexant modems which I'm also trying to get working in linux23:26
martha_genii, pm23:27
geniiWithout paying Linuxant for that many licenses.23:27
martha_right23:27
martha_that is silly23:27
geniimartha_: I do not give assistance in private message, only in public channel. Sorry if this may be an inconvenience for you23:27
martha_genii, ok if I had the full speed code what would I do?23:28
geniimartha_: There is no "full speed code". There's just a binary you would get from Linuxant in that case which you would just install according to their site23:29
martha_ok23:30
geniimartha_: In your case, you can get the HCF one from them at http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/downloads-license.php       after agreeing to the agreement there23:32
geniiThe instructions to install it are on the next screen after that one23:33
martha_pm?23:33
geniimartha_: Again, public channel only please.23:34
martha_ok23:34
geniimartha_: The forum link I gave sometimes works and sometimes not to build the driver from the last-known source code which was available for Conexants. Even then it sontains what are called "binary blobs" or proprietary stuff, etc. I've had success and failures both with doing it this way. If I had only a handful of modems I'd let Linuxant extort me :)23:39
martha_genii, what would you call this latestgenericsources/hsfmodem-7.60.00.04full.tar.gz23:41
geniimartha_: That is the Dell code for the drivers they are currently using. Those are also from Linuxant, btw.23:42
martha_ok23:43
geniiIf your Vendor:Device code does not meet what is currently in a Dell which is provided with a Conexant driver from them, it son't work.23:43
geniison't ->won't23:44
martha_ok23:44
