I can be using 10 applications at the same time for hours and it freezes, or it can freeze ~5 mins after login when only Konqueror was open. [21:23] somekool: what kind? [21:28] sheytan_: systray icons from kde4 app are all black [21:28] systray icons from gtk or kde3 app are all fine [21:28] somekool: can you make a screeshot? [21:29] Ciao a tutti [21:29] yes [21:29] !list [21:29] This is not a file sharing channel (or network). If you're looking for information about me, type « /msg ubottu !bot » [21:30] http://imagebin.ca/view/Zk9N0M.html [21:31] i was already using kde 4.2.2 in kubuntu 8.10 and i did not have this problem. problem appear after I upgraded to 9.04 [21:32] somekool: sorry, i didnt read before, can you repeat what is the problem? [21:32] i cant find it [21:33] how odd, if i mount the drive, ie when kubuntu asks what to do with it, and then open kaffiene, it's not playing, but it's not giving an error either [21:34] somekool: maybe try upgrade to 4.2.3 [21:34] sheytan_: i did. [21:35] somekool: never saw somthing like that. ask on #kde [21:35] lovre: systray icons from kde4 app are all black; systray icons from gtk or kde3 app are all fine ; http://imagebin.ca/view/Zk9N0M.html ; [21:36] somekool: do you use compiz? [21:36] they will tell me to ask here. it was fine with 4.2.2+8.10 and it's broken with 4.2.2+9.04 & 4.2.3+9.04 [21:36] lovre: i use desktop effects from kwin but not compiz it self. i tried disabling it. it does not solve the problem [21:36] somekool: maybe they will not. [21:37] what is your graphics card, and do you have latest drivers installed? [21:38] I just moved to Jaunty - now my deskop (what was twin-view?) are split. [21:38] I want to get my main panel to stretch across both monitors [21:39] Also, my desktop widgets are specific to only one monitor - I was hoping to span both [21:40] somekool: tray backup /home/user/.kde(4)/share/config/plasma*, then kill plasma, and start it again. will the problem be solved? [21:40] try* [21:41] robin0800: Mamarok, thx for the help, i've decided to "chuck" the current install and do a new one [21:41] windows like [21:41] Ahmuck: you give up very easily [21:42] not really. it used to work, but now it doesn't [21:42] time is valuable [21:42] it's 20 min to a new install, and 20 hours for repair [21:42] well, my time is too, that's why I don't spend it on Windows :) [21:42] *shrugs*, linux is becoming more like windows every day [21:42] Ahmuck: not really [21:42] without the virurese [21:42] ouch, that's a very bold statement! [21:42] ah, and without the software variety [21:43] Ahmuck: dont let the looks fool you [21:43] but then, it doesn't really belong here [21:43] *shrugs*, Mamarok it is what it is [21:43] everybody has to value his/her own freedom [21:44] Should KDE4 be treating my two monitors as seperate "desktops"? [21:47] edoceo: it does not for me [21:47] somekool: So you have a panel at the bottom (for example) that can span across both? [21:48] sheytan_: well, I tried removing the systray multiple times which gets his config reset... but ... when you say to backup the config. do you mean to move it away as well to start fresh ? [21:48] edoceo: no, I have a panel on each [21:48] edoceo : can i see your xorg.conf ....im working on setting my nvidia out w/ no luck :/ [21:49] edoceo: they are not separate desktops, but they are separate screen on a single desktop. it might depend on your video card driver and xorg config. [21:49] ~pb [21:49] nvidia-settings does all the work for you [21:50] somekool: yes, backup the old plasma's config files somewhere, then kill plasma, and start it again. if it will be ok with the systray, then you need to setup your desktop again, when not, kill plasma, tehn copy back the backedup files and start plasma again [21:50] sere: its here: http://paste.ubuntu.com:80/173241/ [21:50] somekool: I have nvidia-settings but its not setting up my xorg.conf so im doing it manually [21:50] edoceo : thanks alot [21:54] Ok - my xorg.conf has a configuration of two monitors but they go to one "screen" - should I make two screens for X? [21:54] sheytan_: same bug [21:55] somekool: so it's not plasmas fault. what's graphics card do you have? [21:56] nvidia [21:56] somekool: driver version? [21:57] What does it mean in the KDE software upgrade module when it says that there are "19 blocked updates"? [21:58] http://kubuntu.pastebin.com/m14ab1711 :: i believe the one in used is the latest, 1.80 [21:59] somekool: ok, so i'm using the same drivers, kubuntu 9.04(but clean install), and 4.2.3, an everything works fine [22:01] sheytan_: kde desktop effects or compiz ? [22:02] sheytan_: yes [22:02] dependency hell again [22:02] astrobear: i don't think there's koffice for kde4 yet [22:02] something i was trying to avoid by reinstalling ubuntu [22:02] or is it? [22:03] i don't care if it uses the kde4 backends or not i need that pdf import option so i can't start working on this document [22:03] astrobear: try maybe openoffie? [22:03] anyway, when i tried apt-get install kformula... there were about 300 apps that are going to be removed just to install it [22:03] sheytan_: it doesn't have this feature [22:04] astroboy: maybe there is an experimental repo for koffice. i'm new to kubuntu, too, so i don't know everything [22:05] sheytan_: i am using it pretty much since early 4.0 and it is also the first time it happens to me [22:06] somekool: as i said, did you ask on #kde? [22:06] i'm not very new, i'm quite an old fart [22:06] anyway, seems scribus edits pdfs without breaking my system [22:06] sheytan_: i did some time ago, I guess I will try again [22:06] first I am trying switching back to nvidia 1.73 [22:07] * somekool rebooting [22:07] astrobear: i was using slackware for 3 years and sometimes it is ok to have a pkg manager that doesn't check deps.
