draikYes, it runs without labels00:00
ign0ramusdraik, well, that solves the mystery... fix the syntax00:01
draikign0ramus: But that's MY mystery. What is the correct syntax?00:01
ign0ramusdraik, you know more about that than i do :(00:01
draikThat kinda hurts00:02
ign0ramusdraik, sorry bro... i assume your ~/.bashrc has corresponding aliases?00:02
ign0ramusdraik, i'm still struggling making with cron syntax, since i don't believe there's a cute little gui for these tasks any more?00:04
draikign0ramus: Sorry, I was away checking on the script00:07
ign0ramusdraik, i was getting errors on the dpkg lines, which i removed, but it seems very slow to load, and like you said, no response :(00:08
draikIt takes a moment or two00:09
xcdfgkjhgcvI've just modified my /etc/fstab and added 2 lines at the bottom, will my system break during a reboot or will it be fine? http://pastebin.com/m6264c93f00:11
ign0ramusdraik, well, if you add double quotes around the letter-option lines, the script does work effectively, but unfortunately, you cannot choose00:12
ign0ramusdraik, which defeats the point, i understand.00:12
ign0ramusdraik, and i'm getting "Illegal option -e" on line 3000:13
ign0ramusdraik, nvm... that won't be your line 30, because i removed some lines00:13
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, your /var/ and /tmp/ directories are on a different partition?00:14
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: A different partition from what? They are on the same partition as my root partition.00:17
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: I'm trying to put them on tmpfs because I don't want people to see my data if they steal my laptop00:17
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, encryption would probably be easier... but this should work too00:18
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: I've already encrypted my /home00:19
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: I just hope that I haven't messed up my fstab and destroyed my system.00:19
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, you've backed it up, i presume?00:20
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: Backed what up?00:20
siddhartahi everyone, i'm using kubuntu 8.04.2, i'm trying ti remove network-manager package but aptitude says wants to remove kubuntu-desktop also, i pretend to install wicd, i already have downloaded the package00:20
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, the original fstab00:20
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: It's only 2 lines difference.00:21
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: I can remember what changes I made.00:21
xcdfgkjhgcvSo I guess if it is messed up, I'll have to boot a Live CD and modify it.00:21
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, yes, but in the event of an borked system, its much easier to cp a good file over the borked one00:21
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: Just as easy to edit it with a text editor.00:21
xcdfgkjhgcvIt would be annoying to have to fix it as I'd need to download a Live CD from another computer.00:22
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, true. with a livecd you'd have to mount the disk and chroot into it, correct?00:22
xcdfgkjhgcvAnd then figure out how to burn it onto a 256MB USB drive.00:22
xcdfgkjhgcvign0ramus: Why chroot into it?00:22
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, not necessary?00:23
ign0ramusxcdfgkjhgcv, luckily, i've never actually had to fix a kubuntu install....just friends' windows installs00:23
prasanthhow to get wine installed00:28
siddhartaprasanth: sudo aptitude install wine00:28
xcdfgkjhgcvprasanth: apt-get install wine00:28
prasanthcan i change my ram after installing my ubuntu00:30
siddhartaprasanth: you mean the hardware? or the swap partition?00:30
prasanths00:30
prasanthhardware00:30
siddhartaprasanth: yes you can, your distro will detect the change in the amount of memory, you don't have to do anything else00:31
prasanththe ram i had is 256 and my firefox works slow00:32
siddhartaprasanth: how much swap does the system have?00:33
ign0ramusdraik, you're using the "read" command wrong00:33
prasanthi dont know exactly can u tell how to configure the swap00:34
prasanthbcos i installed auto not manual00:35
draikign0ramus: Aside from everything else?00:37
ign0ramusdraik, well, it's a start00:38
ign0ramusdraik, "read" has to refer back to parameters set within your questions00:39
draikign0ramus: Ok. How do I do that?00:39
ign0ramusdraik, working on it... for example, here's a usage:00:40
ign0ramusdraik, read -p "Please enter your name  : " name00:40
ign0ramusdraik, then ... echo "$name"00:40
draikOk, but what about multiple options?00:40
ign0ramusdraik, can you read this? http://pastebin.com/m34c9969600:41
draikGive me a sec while I get a new TTY for lynx00:41
ign0ramusdraik, it doesn't solve your problem, but shows "read" and "echo" syntax in a simple script00:42
draikign0ramus: Saw it. That's good for user entries, but what about those which I have created?00:43
ign0ramusdraik, checking into that, too... but this was the first thing that struck me00:43
siddhartai already solved the issue, thanks anyway00:43
draikign0ramus: I'm very appreciative of all the help you're giving me right now.00:44
ign0ramusdraik, i'm learning as i go, too :)00:44

henuxdoes anyone know how do i switch ctrl and caps lock on kubuntu 9.04?00:58
superboyhelp00:58
siddhartahenux: ?        didn't understand that00:59
henuxi want to rebind caps lock to be the ctrl key, and ctrl key to be caps lock00:59
ign0ramusdraik, i think i need to do more research... it seems that the 'b', 'd', 'r', and 'u' variables contain the programs+arguments they're set to01:00
superboyhelp http://paste.ubuntu.com/178353/01:00
henuxthere was some trick to be made in xorg.conf01:00
ign0ramusdraik, something is fundamentally wrong, but i don't yet have the script-fu to identify a solution01:00
draikign0ramus: Don't drown yourself on this. Thanks01:00
ign0ramusdraik, well, it's for self-betterment as well, but I am stumped.01:01
ign0ramusdraik, where did you learn the syntax you have?  From a tutorial, or extensive use of man pages?01:02
siddhartahenux: no, i really don't know how to do that ... i have never needed that01:02
draikgeneral info I've been gathering01:02
ign0ramusdraik, fair enough.  i found some tutorials on these kinds of scripts, but they are too simple... or way too advanced O_o01:03
siddhartahenux: you may do a web search using the terms "modifier keys switch keys"01:03
=== Paraselene__ is now known as Paraselene_

siddhartahenux: you're welcome01:06
ign0ramusdraik, simple, but maybe closer to what you want http://rafb.net/p/y9fg7594.html01:08
draikign0ramus: Thanks seeing it now01:09
ign0ramusdraik, expanding on that, you can add 'else' arguments for a null response01:10

ign0ramusdraik, here's another example of an interactive script: http://rafb.net/p/N6Zemr39.html01:21

ign0ramusdraik, also this may be perfect for your needs - http://rafb.net/p/CYQYoR40.html01:25
ign0ramussuperboy, do you have "kubuntu-restricted-extras" installed?  That should give you a working Java install.01:25
superboyuuum i dont think so how wold i go about installing that?01:26
ign0ramussuperboy, "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras"01:27
Whiz2_kubuntu version 9.04. using KPackageKit (Add and Remove Software) any time i try to add or remove packages using this method, I get an error message that says "Cannot get the exclusive lock on the packaging backend. Please close any other legacy packaging tools that may be open" thing is... I don't have any others open... just that one01:28
ign0ramusdraik, there's a lot of stuff you don't need in that last one, but it does effectively list menu options, and shows the syntax to complete the commands, depending on user input01:28
ign0ramusWhiz2_, check ksysguard to see if you don't have some other form of apt (kpackagekit, synaptic, adept, etc) open01:29
ShadozeAnyone having problems installing openoffice using kpackagekit?01:29
ShadozeIt will just hang on getting dependancies..01:30
Whiz2_ign0ramus: if anything else is open, then it opened when Linux logged in, cuz i didn't open anything else. how do I access that program?01:30
ign0ramusShadoze, then try the "build-dep" command in terminal, for the package you need01:30
ign0ramusWhiz2_, well, if you're restoring sessions, something else may be running ... "kdesudo ksysguard"01:30
Whiz2_ign0ramus: it's fresh install and a fresh reboot01:31
ShadozeOk, is there any way to get 3.1 because 3.0 is the one in the repositories01:31
ign0ramusShadoze, from the web site or maybe someone has a PPA.  Google should help in this regard.01:31
ign0ramusWhiz2_, that is puzzling... can you install from konsole?01:31
Whiz2_ign0ramus: *sigh* i dunno. my system just froze when coming out of screensaver mode. been having issues with the system freezing in linux lately... to the point of letting me move the mouse, but absolutely nothing else responds01:32
Whiz2_on a fresh install01:32
ign0ramusWhiz2_, integrated intel graphics?01:32
Whiz2_ign0ramus: ATI Radeon x1650 AGP with 512 dedicated RAM (not onboard video)01:33
ShadozeHmm kpackagekit dosn't seem to pickup the keyfile i made for 3.101:33
ign0ramusWhiz2_, i'm not sure what would be causing the freezing then... you can always use the 'top' command to see if anythings eating your resources01:34
Whiz2_ign0ramus: could the onboard video be causing problems even if it's not being used?01:34
ign0ramusWhiz2_, i honestly don't know - never had that situation.  wish i could help, but i'd just be giving bad advice ;)01:35
Whiz2_lol01:35
ign0ramusit's the truth.  look at most "ubuntu blogs"... :D01:35
ign0ramusShadoze, a keyring for a repo?01:36
ign0ramusShadoze, you can add it in terminal, or add the .key file in your package manager gui01:36
ShadozeYes, i was following softpedias "famous" openoffice install guide01:37
ShadozeOk, hold up01:37
ign0ramusShadoze, here's what you want to do to add a key (good guide) https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA#Adding%20a%20PPA%20to%20your%20Ubuntu%20repositories01:38
ShadozeWicked, just imported the key, cheers01:40
ign0ramusShadoze,  :)01:40
ShadozeDo yo uknow the reason why kpackagekit dosn't seem to pick up self made keys01:40
ShadozeFor example if you were to get a key from a site, paste it into kate and save it as anything01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, don't know, i junked kpackagekit after the first time i used it01:41
ign0ramusShadoze, the important thing is to have the correct header and footer, and not to add your own .extension to the file01:41
ShadozeYeah, i leave it unmodified and without an extension01:42
draikign0ramus: Tried the script as it is in there and no go01:42
draikI get errors on a line that doesn't exist. Doesn't seem to like my closing01:42
ign0ramusdraik, you gotta be kindding me01:43
ShadozeCorrect me if i'm worng, but Linux scans the file for what the content is, rather than judging by a .whatever extension01:43
ign0ramusShadoze, for the most part that is correct, but it doesn't mean your packagemanager will accept a key file with a .txt extension01:44
draikign0ramus: Gimme a sec for the new pastebin01:44
ign0ramusShadoze, the "file" command is awesome for detecting filetype01:44
draikhttp://pastebin.com/f640890f01:44
ShadozeI will have to use tha tmore often :)01:45
Whiz2_ign0ramus: found the kpackagekit issue, and corrected it. dpkg was apparently interrupted during install01:45
draikign0ramus: disregard the last line, that was just a test01:45
draikign0ramus: But still, with or without that line, it gives an error01:45
ign0ramusWhiz2_, that would do it :)01:45
ign0ramusdraik, well, your options are misaligned (1-4 but then 1-5), but still shouldn't spit that error01:46
Whiz2_ign0ramus: i also turned on AGP Fast write in my BIOS to see if that corrects the issue with the freezing. I'll let you know01:47
ShadozeAnyone having a menu problem with the kickoff application launcher01:47
ign0ramusWhiz2_, cool01:47
ShadozeFor example i will right click it and go to menu edit, move some things around to different categories but they simple will not save when i refresh the menu01:48
draikign0ramus: Whoosp01:48
draikwhoops, even01:48
ign0ramushaha01:48
ShadozeInstead they will fill up categories i've moved it to with junk, say i had an applicatiojn called test and i moved it into a folder and then saved. It would remain where it was before as well as creating an entry for itself where i move it to under kedit01:49
Shadoze*menu edit01:49
ign0ramusdraik, i gotta run... find me on irc or IM.  Off for drinks.  Good luck, man.01:49
Whiz2_ign0ramus: any way i can run a general test using Konsole to determine if anything else was interrupted or broken during install?01:50
Whiz2_ok nvm01:50
Whiz2_anyone else know the answer to that question?01:50
ShadozeWhat, to test if any packages are broken?01:52
Whiz2_to test whether the installation of kubuntu in general is broken anywhere01:52
henuxhow do i disable the sound which get played at system login and logout?01:52
ShadozeThis may possibly be of use01:53
Shadozehttp://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=107836501:53
Shadoze@ whiz that is01:53
Shadozehenux, hold up01:54
henuxyes?01:55
spawn57hi folks, can you tell me what repo I have to use to get kde4.3?01:56
Whiz2_Shadoze: I ran the dpkg --configure -a fix and it repaired dpkg. the rest of that doesn't seem helpful because it deals specifically with the error reporting package which i don't appear to be having issues with01:58
Whiz2_dpkg was interrupted during install. the idea is to see if anything else was interrupted or broken during install. for the most part, I don't see where it has ben, but i want to be sure01:59
Shadozehttp://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/experimental/ubuntu/   << Is the repository you will find kde 4.3 in02:00
ShadozeBe careful though02:00
henuxhow do i disable the sound which get played at system login and logout?02:00
draikWhat is the proper closing for a bash script?02:03
ShadozeHenux you used to be able to stop is by going to System Setting > Sound and then unticking the play sound box02:06
ShadozeBut i don't think it;s there anymore02:06
henuxthere's no Sound in System Settings02:07
henuxoh heck, this is terrible02:07
Shadoze@ Whinz2_ i'm not entirelly sure beyond there, i can have a look in a while though02:08
Shadoze@ henux i don't think my sound plays so i must have done something to it i'll haveto find up what i did02:08
Whiz2_henux: give me amoment and i will see if i can find it for you02:08
henuxthanks, i would appreciate it02:08
ShadozeIll quickly test my sound02:09
Whiz2_found it02:10
Whiz2_henux: in system settings click on notifications02:10
henuxand?02:11
Whiz2_for the drop down box next to "Event source" choose KDE System notifications02:11
Whiz2_make changes as you see fit from there02:11
henuxthanks02:12
Whiz2_yw02:12
ShadozeDid you manage to turn it off?02:12
henuxyes02:12
henuxi have a multitude of other problems also02:13
Whiz2_yeah i gave instructions lol02:13
ShadozeAwesome, may i ask how?02:13
henuxthis is my first time using kde since 199902:13
ShadozeMine dosn't make a sound either ;)02:13
ShadozeTheres been a huge number of changes since then henux02:13
Whiz2_Shadoze: system settings, notifications "Event Source" is KDE System Notifications02:13
Whiz2_what other problems are you having henux?02:14
henuxmany02:14
henuxlet me tell you few02:15
Whiz2_i'm new to this version of kubuntu... last one i used was 8.1002:15
Whiz2_please give an example or we can't help02:15
henuxwas it better?02:15
henux8.10?02:15
Whiz2_i'd say this is far better02:15
Shadozeno02:15
henuxhow was it better?02:15
ShadozeKde 4 & 4.1 had a few anoying bugs02:15
Whiz2_9.04 is better than 8.1002:15
henuxoh okay02:15
ShadozeThankfully kde 4.2 is alot more polished02:15
henuxand this kde with kubuntu 9.04 is which?02:16
ShadozeI think it ships with kde 4.2.202:16
henuxokay cool02:16
henuxhere is one:02:16
Whiz2_my KDE version is 4.2.202:16
henuxkwallet pops up at every login as it wants to have my password for the wireless access, is there a way to have it automatically authorize the wlan0?02:16
ShadozeI'm using kde 4.2.302:16
Whiz2_i'm still working on a way to disable KDE wallet02:17
henuxideally i would like to way the wlan0 to connect at login without any troubles from me02:17
henuxhere's another:02:17
ShadozeI believe there is henux02:17
Shadozeopen kwallet02:17
henuxk02:18
henuxdone02:18
Shadozethen go to settings > configure kwallet02:18
Shadoze*wallet even02:18
henuxdone02:18
Shadozedo you see any appklication related to networkmanager?02:19
Whiz2_from there click settings and choose configure wallet02:19
henuxin Access Control? i believe not, there are kdewallet > KDE Daemon and kwalletmanager02:19
Whiz2_uncheck the box that says "Enable the KDE Wallet subsystem" click ok02:20
Whiz2_you may get an error, but it shouldn't prompt you again02:20
Whiz2_i could be wrong tho02:20
ShadozeDisabling annoying kwallet in KDE4:02:20
ShadozeSystem Settings >> Choose Advance02:20
ShadozeThen choose kwallet and uncheck "Enable kwallet system" and also in access control uncheck "prompt kwallet"02:20
henuxdone02:21
Whiz2_yes that too02:21
Whiz2_now click ok02:21
Whiz2_then close the smaller window02:21
henuxdoes the network manager still automatically login to my wlan now?02:21
ShadozeTest it02:21
henuxlets do that brbr02:21
Whiz2_then right click the KDE wallet on the application bar and choose quit02:21
henuxbrb*02:21
Shadoze*fingers crossed* it does02:21
ShadozeI reckon02:22
Whiz2_my freezing issue appearrs to be repaired by enabling AGP fast write in the BIOS for my card02:22
Shadozeby kde 4.5, it will be as polished as 3.5 was02:22
Whiz2_i never saw 3.502:22
Whiz2_or maybe i did and don't remember lol02:22
ShadozeAs there had been so many releases in the £.* series by 3.5 (last one) it was as solid and stable as anything02:23
Shadoze*302:23
ShadozeaND YOU'VE PROBABLY USED 3.502:23
Whiz2_this version seems pretty stable to me02:23
Shadoze*caps02:23
ShadozeIt will get even better and stable over time02:23
Whiz2_i was at one point using a dapper drake release of the OS02:23
ShadozeI've been running the 4.2 series for about a month now02:23
ShadozeNo major issues02:24
Whiz2_i had HUGE install issues with Kubuntu 8.1002:24
Whiz2_something about ata drivers, or IDE not working so it wouldn't even access the CD02:24
Shadozepart from my bootscreen is messed up completely02:24
ShadozeBut that was my fault ;)02:24
Whiz2_had to get it installed the painful way...02:24
Shadoze=[02:24
ShadozeWhiz2 can you check something for me?02:24
Whiz2_can try02:25
Shadozeright click the kickoff menu02:25
ShadozeThen click menu edit02:25
ShadozeTry dragging ANYTHING into another folder02:25
Shadozefor me it refuses to save the settings02:25
ShadozeWhich means i cannot reorganise my menu02:25
Whiz2_it drags, but I don't see a way to apply02:26
Shadoze"Save" in the top left corner02:26
Whiz2_hold... let me see02:26
Shadozek02:26
Whiz2_worked fine for me02:27
Whiz2_BTW this is my first time using linux since sometime last year02:28
Whiz2_and this interface and setup is FAR more worth using02:28
Whiz2_i hate the command line interfaces02:28
ShadozeYou lucky person02:29
ShadozeIt dosn't work for me02:29
ShadozeI cant reogarnise my menu :(02:29
Whiz2_they need to make it so everything can be done from the GUI instead of the command line, but still have the command line for emergencies02:29
Shadozei genrally prefer installing my packages via command line02:29
Shadozesuch as sudo apt-get install mypackage02:30
Whiz2_i'm a pro at that, but it was always annoying02:30
Whiz2_the command line assumes you know everything about linux02:30
Whiz2_the GUI doesn't02:30
Whiz2_lol02:30
Shadozethats what the manpages are for02:30
Shadozeopen konsole02:31
ShadozeType man sudo02:31
ShadozeYou'll see what i mean02:31
Whiz2_hours and hours of reading... and I still never figured out how to do the things I needed to do... had to have someone login to my computer from somewhere else to fix it02:31
Whiz2_including man pages02:31
Shadoze:) the menu problem is the only thing annoying me02:31
Whiz2_i'm an old DOS addict02:32
Whiz2_but this command line interfaceis complex02:32
ShadozeYeah, but it really is worth learning02:33
Whiz2_would take me most of my life to learn it lol02:33
Whiz2_the previous versions relied too heavily on it02:33
Whiz2_i never used it before a few yrs ago because it was all command line based02:33
Whiz2_when i heard the added GUI to it, i jumped on it, but was still dissapointed02:34
ShadozeShit02:35
Shadozejust tried to organise my menu02:35

alakhiaif you try to run it from konsole, do you get any error msgs?07:34
Guest31841can you check your file association for x-executable. I have nothing for it. From konsole I get access denied07:34

Barridusis it possible to reset permissions?  (those popup password prompts that i previously told to remember the permission forever)07:43
alakhiaBarridus: which popup was this?07:44
Guest31841it does have the noexec flag. weird... shouldnt use mountmanager prog :/07:45
Barridusalakhia you know, the prompts for passwords when you make a system change07:46
Barridusthere's radio buttons that say "remember this permission foreveR" or something. i want to reset/clear that07:47
littlebarridus: If you open kwallet by typing kwalletmanager in a terminal window, then you can go into the configuration menu and change the settings.07:47
alakhiaok, mystery solved ... if you copy that file somewhere else, chmod it, then it will work07:47
alakhiaor just remount with noexec off07:47

Barriduslittle, i'm not sure if that's what i'm looking to do07:50
Barridusi could have sworn i used to get popups for passwords when adding removing packages in kpackagekit, etc07:51
Barridusi don't see anything in kwalletmanager for that07:51
alakhiaBarridus: try looking at: ~/.kde/share/config/kwalletrc07:52
alakhiain case you are brave enough to modify it directly and remove things from "Auto Allow" section07:53
littleUsually if a program asks if you'd like it to remember a password, it kicks in the kwallet automatically. Have you tried going into kpackagekit and having it remember a password?07:53
Barridusalakhia, hmmm i assume i want to remove things from [Auto Allow]07:55
Barriduslittle, yes i believe i did that.  want to remove it :)07:57

Barridusmostly just networking related things (KRDC, Kopete, Network Manager, twitter, etc)08:02
Barridustab?08:03
Barridustab in what, little?  i see none in kwalletmanager08:03
littleBarridus: In my kwalletmanager if I go into the Settings menu and then choose Configure Kwallet, there is an Access Control tab with a listing of the programs that use Kwallet.08:05
Barridusahhh, ok08:05
BarridusKDE Control Module?08:06

vadi01cause am thinking of downloading and installing it08:54

Num83rGuyIt'll get fixed.08:56
vadi01Num83rGuy: you refering to my question?08:56
Pondus2hi...dos anyone know about xbins08:57
vadi01net mon is buggy from kde itself08:57
Num83rGuyNah, it was rysh I was refering to. :)08:58
perseidProblems with the net mon? As in network access going away randomly?08:59
ryshNum83rGuy: aha, thanks for replying ... so it seems i am not the only one with this problem08:59
vadi01Num83rGuy: ok. anyway it seems that kubuntu developers also have a prob with net mon08:59
vadi01Num83rGuy: is gnomenetwork monitor recommended to be used meanwhile?09:00
vadi01rysh: what happens?09:00
Num83rGuyNo it doesn't go away randomly just the net mon plasmoid can't find the net interface to monitor.09:00
ryshI know kde4.3 is BETA and for me it is not a real problem ... just wanted to know if there was a solution available ...09:00
ryshi am using kde 4.3 beta1 .... and the plasma widget "System Monitor - Network Settings" is not seeing any interface09:01
vadi01well in fedora-kde its the same prob.09:01
Num83rGuyYup thats life in beta.09:01
vadi01so the developers are using gnome network monitor instead. is this possible in kubuntu?09:01
ryshNum83rGuy: :-) ... doesn't matter ... kde4.3 beta1 still looks nice ... even without this plsma-widget09:02
vadi01and it sure does not look like there will be a solution anytime soon as in this month09:02
perseidI installed wicd for networking.09:03
Num83rGuyThe network manager in kde works great it's the little in-out graph that doesn't work in 4.3 beta.09:03
vadi01rysh: hmmmm kde 4.3.... how buggy have you found it to be?09:03
ryshWell first it ddi not really install smoothly ... many errors that it wanted to overwrite files from other packages09:04
ryshso i used a lot of dpkg --force overwrite /var/xxx/xxxx.deb commands09:05
Num83rGuyI would say that 75% of what I use works great. Plasma still crashes every so often but i have not lost any data,.. yet....09:05
Num83rGuyI just used gnomes "partial upgrade" dialog.09:06
ryshsame here ... plasma crashes once in a while ... gwwnview still not usable ... segmentation faults right after wanting to open an image09:06
vadi01now plasma crashing can be a prob09:06
Num83rGuyYup but never use it any way.09:06
Num83rGuygwenview that is.09:07

vadi01rysh: how is pulse audio in kubuntu? does it give any audio probs?09:20
ryshvadi01: Hmmm no audio problems for me ... not even in kde4.3-beta109:21

khaije1rysh: graphical glitches or actual system stability problems?09:30
khaije1also i'm wondering is it up to the 3.5 standards for features yet?09:31

khaije1rysh: easy there, i'm a linux user, i dont prefer mac-os style of anything on mac-os, i prefer the feature that was called 'mac-os style' on linux, it matters not to me what they call it, i'd still like it if it was called yoga-frog style09:38
khaije1Num83rGuy: i see, i'll check that out :)09:39

vadi01eagles0513875: use apt to remove it. and see09:46
ryshi understand ... :-) ... i think kde is getting nicer and nicer, and i don't want to go back to kde3 ... kde4 is just completly different, and things will work different. I mean: do not expect every option from kde3 to have an equavilent in kde409:48
eagles0513875vadi01: it works need to see if it crashes again09:49
vadi01eagles0513875: ok.09:51
vadi01eagles0513875: apparently pulse has some issues with some audio cards. if you removed it it should not crash now.09:53

weeMamarok : Linux ubuntu12:30
Mamarokwee: rpm is the package system for Red Hat, also used by SuSE and Mandirva, not in Kubuntu12:30

SerpardumYou know how to create a script right?12:39
Mamarokvadi01: would be great, especially in Kubuntu we really need packagers12:39
ahmedSerpardum: no i dont know12:39
SerpardumIt's basically just a text file that's been chmod to be executable.12:39
Serpardumuse like kate12:39
Serpardumkate, type in the command, save it with some file name (such as start) in taht folder12:40
Serpardumthen you'll need to chmod +x start12:40
Serpardumor whatever teh filename is12:40
SerpardumI already have a ~/.kde/Autostart folder so I guess it's created automatically12:40

ign0ramus!kdesudo | Resistol15:30
ubottuResistol: In KDE use « kdesudo <program> » (or « kdesu <program> » for Feisty and earlier) to run graphical applications with root privileges when you have to. Never just use "sudo"! | See http://psychocats.net/ubuntu/graphicalsudo to find out why15:30

ign0ramuswhat_if, ergh...15:30
ActionParsnipResistol: sudo is ONLY for cli commands, like rm, cp, mv, ln etc. kdesu is for gui apps like nautilus, kate tec15:31
ign0ramusShadoze, well, there's more to it than that... scrot is simply a cli app for screenshots15:31
what_ifign0ramus: this time yakuake did not though (which I wanted, lol)15:31

ShadozeWell i removed the documents folder16:16
ShadozeIt now goes to home/unnamed, where i wanted it to go16:16
ign0ramusShadoze, ok, so if you put Documents back....16:16
ShadozeSec16:16
ign0ramusShadoze, close the app and re-open it, else it remembers last working directory16:17
ShadozeOk, haha documents is glitched now16:17
Shadozeill give you a screenie16:17
ign0ramusShadoze, :/16:17
ign0ramusShadoze, at least screenshots work good for you now XD16:17
Shadozehah yes, cheers for that ;)16:18
ign0ramusnp16:18
ShadozeOpening ksnapshot each time was annoying16:18
liberviscoHi..16:18
ShadozeGood afternoon16:18
ShadozeOk heres wha ti did ign16:18
ign0ramusShadoze, all i ever used it for was to save a screenshot to the desktop, which is why i modified that scrot command to do just that with no pop up16:18
liberviscoI'm trying to change the theme to all KDE apps to qtcurve without installing too much of KDE4 (I went back to GNOME cause KDE4 was too sluggish)16:18
liberviscoqt apps generally take a GTK theme now, except KDE apps..16:19
liberviscolike kate and dolphin16:19
liberviscothey are stubbornly oxygen16:19
ShadozeOk what id id ign16:19
Barridussomeone remind repeating the screenshot walkthrough Shadoze got?  my desktop froze up and i wanted to see it16:19
ShadozeShadoze, ok, go to System Settings > Input Actions16:19
ShadozePerun (n=perun@2001:6f8:1316:1234:216:3eff:fe07:3160) has joined #kubuntu16:19
ShadozeShadoze, create a new action, call it whatever you want16:19
Shadozea[2121]e (n=Linux@60.54.109.145) has joined #kubuntu16:19
ShadozeShadoze, bind the prtscrn button, and then use this as the command:16:19
Shadozethanks ActionParsnip and Shadoze and ign0ramus16:19
ShadozeShadoze, scrot '%s.png' -e 'mv $f ~/Desktop/'16:19
ActionParsnipnice16:19
ign0ramusBarridus, basically, we bound the PrtScrn button to a scrot command that saves a .png named by the second to the Desktop16:20
liberviscoSo.. how do I modify the theme of these KDE apps to qtcurve?16:20
louploupGNOME IS EPURED16:20
ShadozeIgn, i made a folder called Docs and put documents in there16:20
ShadozeThen it would oepn directly to home/unnamed16:20
ShadozeNow when i cut and pasted documents back16:20
Shadozethis happened16:20
Shadozehttp://i40.tinypic.com/scgd91.jpg16:20
liberviscolouploup, epured?16:20
louploupsoft16:20
louploupi like16:21
liberviscostill don't get it :P16:21
ign0ramusShadoze, what's the problem... i'm not seeing it16:21
ShadozeThe icons invisible ;)16:21
ign0ramusShadoze, ohhh...16:21
ign0ramusShadoze, are there still files in it?16:21
Shadozepressign f5 makes it visible again though16:21
Barridusign0ramus, ok i did that, however nothing happens16:21
Shadozeyeah, there all there16:21
ign0ramusBarridus, did you install scrot first?16:22
liberviscoit'd be nice if there was a QDE :S16:22
ShadozeShoot missed that bit lol16:22
liberviscojust a simple window manager for KDE apps..16:22
Barridusthat would be a negative.  ;)  *facepalms*16:22
liberviscono.. QT apps16:22
* Barridus increases coffee consuption16:22
ign0ramusBarridus, lol... sorry, i didn't mention that part.  i know you froze up16:22
liberviscoQT rocks, KDE.. well.. it's damn buggy still16:22
ShadozeDamn16:22
Shadozewhen i replaced Documents again16:23
ShadozeEverything opens back to that as defualt16:23
ShadozeSO the solution is16:23
ShadozeRename Documents to Docs or something16:23
ign0ramusShadoze, that's what i figured :/16:23
ign0ramusShadoze, i don't like that solution... more of a work-around16:23
ign0ramusShadoze, there's got to be a way to change the default16:23
ShadozeAye, im 99% sure there is16:23
Barridusi don't mind Destktop, i generally use it as a temporary place to store things before i delete/move16:23
ign0ramusBarridus, that's exactly why i use it to drop screenshots ... i post 'em and delete 'em16:24
Barridusyeah16:24
Barridusi installed scrot and still nothing16:24
ign0ramusBarridus, it won't give you any output, it will just place a screen on the desktop... you're not seeing it?16:25
Barridusno it does not work when i hit printscreen (which i bound to your command).  the command works when entered into terminal however16:25
ign0ramusBarridus, can you c/p the command you have in Input Actions?16:26
Barridusscrot '%s.png' -e 'mv $f ~/Desktop/'16:26
Barridusit works in terminal16:26
ign0ramusBarridus, i would say try deleting the shortcut and doing it again16:26
Barridusmakes a quiet beep and saves a png16:26
ign0ramusBarridus, make sure to do Global > Command16:26
ShadozeWhats the command to repair broken packaagain?16:27
ShadozeOpenoffice is terribly broken16:27
ign0ramus"apt-get -f install" ?16:27
Shadoze:(16:28
ShadozeThe following information may help to resolve the situation:16:28
ShadozeThe following packages have unmet dependencies.16:28
Shadoze  openoffice.org-kde: Depends: openoffice.org-core (= 1:3.0.1-9ubuntu3) but it is not going to be installed16:28
ShadozeE: Broken packages16:28
ShadozeI wanted to install kde intergration for openoffice 3.116:28
ign0ramusShadoze, you can try "sudo apt-get build-dep <package>"16:28
Barridusign0ramus, new global shortcut -> command/url?16:29
ign0ramusBarridus, yu[16:29
ign0ramus*yup, even16:29
Barridusstill does not work...16:29
ign0ramusBarridus, what does the Trigger button say?16:29
Barridus"Print"16:29
ign0ramusBarridus, that's what it should be... and you've Applied it?16:30
Barridusyeah16:30
ign0ramusBarridus, that makes no sense that it would work in cli, but not in Input Actions... I don't get it16:30
ign0ramusBarridus, i worked for a while to get the right command for me, and Shadoze confirmed that it worked for him...16:30
Barridushmm i tried shift printscreen and it seems to work16:31
Barridusi wonder why print does not16:31
liberviscoAnyone knows how to make kate look like GTK in GNOME?16:31
ign0ramusBarridus, that is strange... Shift+PrtScrn calls our scrot command?16:31
libervisco(it should by default, but for some reason KDE tied apps ignore QT's QGTKStyle feature16:32
Barridusno i mean i set it to that just now to troubleshoot16:32
ign0ramusBarridus, and that works fine?16:32
Barridusyeah16:32
Barridusit won't work when bound to print on its own, apparently16:33
ign0ramusBarridus, weird. only thing i can think of is your PrtScrn button may be mapped incorrectly16:33
=== root is now known as Guest71290
Barridushow?  i've never mapped/remapped anything until now16:33
ign0ramusBarridus, do you have a keyboard layout assigned in Regional and Language?16:34
Barridusi can live with shift-print, just curious what's wrong16:34
ign0ramusBarridus, yeah, me too16:34
sanjay__does anybody helps me to join php channel ???16:34
Barridushmm not sure16:34
ign0ramusBarridus, i have that option disabled, if it helps at all...16:35
Shadozechannel #php16:35
Barridusi do too16:35
BarridusUsa is selected, but disabled is as well16:35
Barridusit's all greyed out16:35
ign0ramusBarridus, i have no idea why your prtscrn won't work on its own16:35
ign0ramusBarridus, yeah, that's the settings i have as well16:36
coreymanWhats a good plasmoid for RSS?16:36
ign0ramuscoreyman, did you try rssnow?16:36
coreymanign0ramus yes, it has errors all the time16:37

ign0ramusActionParsnip, agreed16:44
ShadozeI enjoy my eyecandy :(16:44
ign0ramusbootsplash hides potential errors16:44
Shadozethats true16:44
ign0ramusfor whatever reason, lirc (infra red stuff) was causing boot times to double/triple, and i didn't know it until bootsplash was disabled16:45
Shadozebootspalshs with verbose mosdes are good16:46
ign0ramusi just thought jaunty took forever to boot ;)16:46

ZigmaTnIm having a litle problem with the Wifi adapter17:21

ZigmaTnI cannot connect to my wireless with it17:22
ZigmaTnI think it's a drivers issue17:22

ShadozeAre you using madwifi17:23

ShadozeYes17:28
Shadozendiswrapper17:28
Shadozehere you go17:28
Shadozehttp://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php/KNDISWrapper?content=8688517:28
ZigmaTnall right , thanks17:29
ShadozeNo problem17:29
ShadozeYou will need to point kndiswrapper to a few files17:29
ShadozeSo have the windows driver ready17:29
ShadozeNOT the exe, the inf and sys files17:29
ShadozeWhen using ndiswrapper however you lose some functionality17:29
ShadozeYou will not be able to place your card in monitor mode17:29
ZigmaTnlike ?17:30
ShadozeWhich means aircrack-ng and airsnort-ng will be useless to you17:30
ZigmaTnSo i cannot inject with it ?17:30
ZigmaTn:S17:30
ShadozeNo you cannot17:30
ShadozeIf you want to use aircrack-ng ect.. you have to install it without ndiswrapper somehow17:30

ShadozeJust reinstalled with ext4, it's really fast ;)22:31
ShadozeCopying 40gb's of data and theres barely a reduction in speed22:31
MamarokShadoze: you read the warnings, did you?22:33
slow-motionn822:33
ShadozeWarnings?22:33
ShadozeNo22:33
WalexShadoze: it is not bad, we'll see how it fragments. Also, "barely a reduction in speed" is alrgely a function of the elevator.22:33
Walexcuriously RedHat Enterprise Linux will have XFS in the next release. Good move, even if a bit too late.22:34
ShadozeCopying 40gb of data on my ext3 kubuntu would have made it go so slow, almost non usuable till it was done22:34
WalexShadoze: 'ext3' can fragment very very badly.22:34
ShadozeMmm :(22:34
ShadozeJust did a reinstall22:34
ShadozeChose ext422:34
ShadozeId cocked my kubuntu up so much i decided to start afresh ;)22:35
ShadozeAs they say22:35
ShadozeCuriosity killed the cat22:35
MamarokShadoze: your choice, there are still problems, get yourself a live CD with a 2.6.28 kernel for emergencies22:36
Mamarokyou can't boot into it with a kernel below that22:36
WalexShadoze: I have been using JFS for a long time it is very reliable and with good performance, architecture similar to 'ext4' but without the 'ext3' backward compatibility and limitations.22:37
ShadozeHow fast is it?22:37
* Walex thinks that JFS should have become the standard Linux FS a long time ago, with XFS as an alternative for very large systems.22:37
MamarokWalex: should be faster than ext on large disk I guess22:37
WalexMamarok: and fragments less.22:38
Mamarokzfs would be nice...22:38
Walexhttp://www.sabi.co.uk/blog/0905May.html#090518 some very recent test I did with SATA drives and JFS22:38
WalexMamarok: BTRFS is competitive with ZFS and is almost ready...22:39
ShadozeLooks nice22:39
WalexMamarok: but sometimes I think of switching to OpenSolaris, but not necessarily because of ZFS.22:39
MamarokWalex: I don't think I will need anything else that soon, just a laptop here22:40
ShadozeMy hard disk is 500gb22:40
